    Carb swapping a friend's tbi and your videos helped answer a few questions so thanks. In my experience using those multipurpose stripper/cutters I've found if you turn them over when stripping so that the flat face of the stripper is towards the end of the wire they bite/strip better and easier versus the way you used them. I've had a few different brands which definitely matters but I will say that a dedicated stripper is also worth the money and then use the multi stripper strictly for crimping. Thanks again for the videos and info

    🤯🤯🤯 I was very close too buying a expensive intake manifold , because the tbi has those funky odd angle middle mounts. I've watched a few ideas on converting a tbi too carb and you.are.the first too simple drill out the tbi mount too except a 4 barrel carb. You just saved me alot of time and money . God bless! But what exactly bit did you use too drill out the holes for the secondary of the carb?

    • @nickconnors8515
      @nickconnors8515  Рік тому +1

      I measured my carb holes and bought a hole saw just a tad bigger so there was space for the flaps to open, nothing too scientific honestly lol, just kinda did what seemed right. After I drilled the holes I just widened them out a little bit as needed with a die grinder.

    • @nickconnors8515
      @nickconnors8515  Рік тому +1

      I believe I used maybe 1 1/4 inch hole saw and then used the die grinder to widen out the holes as needed.

      @@nickconnors8515Great and very informative videos. Did you remove the intake manifold when you drilled out those extra holes for the carb? If not, how did you prevent metal shavings falling in the intake when you drilled out those holes for the carb? I am about to do the same on my SBC with at TBI. If I can use the original intake manifold it would save me a lot of money and a lot of trouble fitting in a new carb intake manifold. By the way, how did you prevent vapor lock on the carb using the original carb? Thanks.

      Can't do it with a stock intake like he did his. That Holley tbi intake he has was basically a blanked off square bore that was opened up for a tbi that's why it was so easy to do with what he already had. You could find any used SBC intake to fit hell even a cast iron Q jet intake will as long as the center bolt holes are wallowed out a bit until they line up with the tbi head holes.
      But currently they have made it even easier there's a few companies that are making adapters that can bolt a carb straight to the factory tbi intake gottem for 2 and 4bbl carbs.
      Im at the point I figured may as well ditch the tbi been chasing electrical issues causing a intermittent idle hiccup on one of my trucks for awhile now and it's always sucked on mpg no matter how good it ran just picked up a older but fairly clean 500 Holley 2bbl for free. $50 for a rebuild kit and $40 for a American made carb to tbi adapter on eBay then the Holley 6psi return style regular is $70 bucks I'm planning on mounting the regulator under the driver's side frame rail and tying right into the hard lines for the supply and return that way I only have to run a single 3/8 line from the back of the firewall up to the carburetor. I already have an older hei distributor and possibly enough stuff to figure out the throttle cable and kick down but possibly will need an aftermarket bracket . Once I get all my stuff together I think I could knock it out on a Saturday

    So just the us shift kit was all the you needed to do the swap for the trans? No controller? I putting a vortec engine in a tbi put converting it to carb. Air gap intake and Avs 1906 carb

    • @nickconnors8515
      @nickconnors8515  Місяць тому

      No controller, just needed a way to give the computer a TPS signal and a tachometer signal. The tachometer signal was easy, the purple wire on the ignition module had to be connected to the tachometer test lead.

      I am not sure, the intake was drilled for a carburetor, I had to modify the ports in it on top for my 4 barrel carb. Not sure if it can be bought or it was custom made at some point in its life. It was drilled and tapped for TBI and Carburetor.

      I did not have to do anything with it, since I got the carburetor the only thing the computer has to do now is shift my transmission. For the transmission the computer only looks at TPS, vehicle speed, rpm signal, and someone mentioned coolant temp so I left all that intact and it’s been running great.

    • @nickconnors8515
      @nickconnors8515  Рік тому +2

      With the carburetor much better! I average around 11-13 mpg in the winter and during summer 14-15 with normal driving. Definitely also increased the horsepower, nothing super crazy but she does good burnouts and definitely has some pep in the step. I will say doing the carb swap really brought a lot of life back to the truck. Once I got it all tuned up and got the timing in the right spot and got my tranny working right, what a different rig. I would highly recommend if you’re having issues with the TBI unit, switch it to carburetor.

      update, I did the swap. So far so good I’m just waiting for the TPS kit in the mail. Your videos are very close to what I had to do.
      It took me a little while to find the RPM test lead to use for the tach
      I would get a fuel pressure regulator that has a fitting for a gauge built in instead of using the T (don’t over torque fittings, I cracked my first regulator)
      Rtv the areas around the coolant ports if switching intakes on the head, both sides of the gasket, and the intake. Mine leaked twice until I did that.
      0° initial timing with a carb motor is not enough, my truck ran rough but I also have a slightly larger camshaft that you can’t hear.

    • @dustyjones756
      @dustyjones756 Рік тому

      If you want to use the PCV pipe from the driver side manifold you can break a couple tabs on the inside of the factory air filter spacer and it fits on top of the carb perfect. All you have to do is go to ace for a longer stud and cut it to length.
      I DEFINITELY recommend putting the vacuum advance thing on the drivers side of the carb and not where you put it. I didn’t have enough room to advance or retard even when moving plug wires over one post.
