    Hopefully you have a fuel pressure regulator with a return line to the tank. If you don't and are choking the pump from 15 psi to 5 psi without a return you will stress and burn out the fuel pump

      I would try to see if you can test the coolant sensor in another way, maybe resistance or something. It sounds like the sensor is bad but I spent months throwing parts at this truck and wasted a lot of money so I would suggest trying to test and diagnose as much as possible. Coolant temp sensors aren’t that expensive and most parts stores do have them in stock still.

    this may have been 3 years ago but it seems like the same issue with my truck, it likes to idle rough and sometimes holds an idle at 1200 rpm or runs rough in lower rpm's when idling so i was thinking its either the IAC valve or my throttle position sensor plus when i shift into reverse or drive it likes to sorta slam into gear so im not entirely sure whats going on

    my 96 just had leak problems used that silicone gel and put in seams stopped rain leaks. those rain guards were a good idea. also had all my lights not working like turn signals etc had to get a new wire throughout the truck to get all the lights working. still have a ground issue somewhere. the orange light under the headlight on passenger side still flickers from time to time. and a small part of cluster (dash inside) is dim. overall these trucks are awesome its usually goofy problems with these lol. just had the window fall out of frame. got that fixed. handles and latches tend to break on these often. the engines in these will last forever the frame is another story

    Got lucky and didn’t have to set the timing or the idle mixture? In 40 years of turning wrenches I’ve never heard of that.

    • @nickconnors8515
      @nickconnors8515 7 місяців тому

      Yep not much tuning at all, timing was dead on and that carburetor came out of the box ready to run, and it runs great! Have had to make some slight adjustments here after a few years of running it but nothing major.

      You’d be correct lol, guess this crate motor is a 78 style block. I learned that after many failed attempts at buying this valve, valve cover gaskets and other motor components. A lot of it is the same but still differences mainly in gaskets.

    great video very informative and to the point. where did you get the adapter plate for the tbi to carb?

    • @nickconnors8515
      @nickconnors8515 7 місяців тому

      I am not sure, the intake was drilled for a carburetor, I had to modify the ports in it on top for my 4 barrel carb. Not sure if it can be bought or it was custom made at some point in its life. It was drilled and tapped for TBI and Carburetor.

    I replaced the ignition switch on my 97 short bed it was making tranny shift weird as it it was not sending power .. but fixed my issue %100

      Excellent! Glad it fixed your issue. I never completely figured mine out, what I did to fix it was carburetor swap the truck. Got rid of the electronic fuel injection and the newer distributor out of the way. Carburetor for fuel injection and HEI distributor for ignition.

    Does anyone know what the bolt size is that connects the bracket to the engine? My compressor was going out and apparently it vibrated out the bolt that connects the bracket itself to the engine. I pulled the compressor to install a bypass and saw the bracket was only being held by a stud? and the bottom bolt. The top of the bracket is a good inch or so away from the engine and allows the belt to walk off. I want to fix it, but since I never saw the bolt I have no idea what to replace with. Searching the web hasn't helped.

      Not entirely sure, my guess is probably 7/16 or possibly 1/2 inch
