If you start with smaller locs it's easier to thicken your locs by combining them but if you start with thicker locs it's harder to go smaller without starting over. Locs thicken up as they mature anyway so you have to pay attention to the size of the parts to really know what size your locs will really be. I've had medium to large locs b4 but this time I want small to medium cuz my hair is already thick so I don't want thick locs too. This my 2nd set of locs and I've restarted twice cuz that's how serious I am about my locs being exactly how I want them. I've given up on trying to find a loctician to do them like I want them so I'm going to start them myself this time. Good luck on your journey.
🔒
Lmao, just like me.
But I think imma just give up on expecting mine perfect
hey sir did u restart again??
And I’m a victim of this
I thought if you combine thinning locs it can make it worse but that’s just me though
Yo love your content just started my loc journey may 20th 2022 and your tutorials are 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾💯💯💯 I hope to have healthy dreads like yours once my locs mature
This video is well timed for me. I'[m going through the same thing. I have thick coils and my first retwist is Sunday. I was considering redoing them but after watching this video I'm considering embracing the journey.
🔒🔒🔒
Yessir. Embrace it for sure 🔒
@@VinnyMatthews how long it take grow beginner
I just got my starter coils two weeks ago and I’m so thankful for my stylist and her wisdom.
It’s the little things that matter like your parts, all the coils twisted the same way, the size of each loc that can create a strong foundation.
Happy journey good people
I also thought about getting hair like blended in to make them thicker. But the guys dreads look nice like that. When they start growing and getting longer his mind and attitude will change. Patience is the key.
Facts 🔒
I'm 2.5 weeks into my journey with 58 starter locs. So excited!
How you looking a yr later?
My locs started out of what I thought were medium size two strand twists then they got thick! I probably got like somewheres 44-55. I lost count because I'm grew out my taper on the sides and back so I got more locs now. Definitely thick is the way to go.
I agree 🔒
did you leave the two strain in to make one loc?
Thanks for the content bro been locked since April 3rd got my retwist done today I have 70 locs coil method Im definitely trying for thicker locs so I may have to start over At some point I have brick pattern now but may switch to triangles instead not sure. 🔒Gang

2 months into my second journey 63 medium size locs from a Afro taper fade can’t wait to see how they turn out great vid new sub ✊🏽
Hey I just started my
Loc journey and I have 64 . I have fine hear I’m scared it may not look like a lot. How’s yours turning out? So far it looks good . I’m trying to decide if I should ask the girl who did them to split them so I can have more
@@vpisces85 mines are in the budding stage and it’s pretty smooth I like how they will eventually turn out when they start forming and getting thicker it all depends on preference if you like smaller locs I would go for more but the number we have is good for medium size locs like they gone eventually grow more thick and make your head look more full the locs in my profile picture was my first journey I had a hightop fade locs
Yeah intro to hitting the like button was off the chain like the style
I will be a year 5/9/21❤️started with 2 strand twist did them myself best decision I’ve made I love my babies.. 56 thick🔒🔒
Best decision ever. I started with two strand as well 🔒
Getting loc in this Saturday can’t wait 🔒
Yessir 🔒
Was yours thick or skinny ?
@@ejcertified skinny but there getting thick been 3months already be 4months on the 24 of aug
I have 50 and I rock a taper fade.. I definitely feel like it’s not enough but they are thick.. so it’s cool I might grow out the sides eventually to get more
keep it going
I started with skinny two strand twist to And I feel what he’s saying the foundation isn’t the strongest in the earlier stages even tho my hair isn’t fully loc yet, but I might consider combining with crotchet, but I like the volume while it’s short , but once it hangs past my ear I would prefer thicker / medium locs
Dont locs thicken as they mature though? I'm only month 6 but my hair looks different damn near every month
I got a temp fade and 36 dreads. I wanted em to be thick. Mainly because i plan on never cutting them and thicker locs look better imo when they get longer. The skinnier ones start to look super thin the longer they get
You’re right about that 🔒
Facts thicker way better I just restarted the 25 I used to have 140 full head for 4 years now I got 60 full head them shits got thin and I only liked them on two strand
Needed this vid my starter locs thick n I thought they were supposed to be skinny
No doubt 🔒
Aye if I was gang I'd just roll with whatever I got and see what the destination lands me cause they look tough and healthy. I personally wanted my loss more on the thinner side. Like between medium and thin but at the end of the day whatever the hair wants to do it's going to do so embrace the journey homie. O yea LOCA GANG!! LOCA GANG!!
Facts my G 🔒
I love your intro! And very informative video
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome
I started off kinda small for pencil size locs but just know this …if u start off small u can always combine them v/s if u start off big you’re pretty much stuck can’t change them
In the process of combining locs. I have high top locs and have 84. I think around 50 is the magic number for high tops.
That durag though 🔥
I've had small locs and I've had thick locs and I love my thicker locs alot more 🔒
Facts 🔒
I grew my fist set of dreads in 2019 cut them in beginning of 2021 then grow them back at them end of 2021 but now my second set are dope I have around 62 dreads medium size they were small but grew
Liked i love bros passion
Yessir 🔒
I have 54 locs so mine are on the thicker side. I love them. Keep the thick locs brother
Yessir 🔒
Yeah I started with 64, and I just didn’t think I would like that in the end so I started over and ended up with around 95….. definitely satisfied now
I got 46
Facts bro
🔒🥰 I am trying to get some locks in the back 2 rows at the bottom. Tips?
New sub. Appreciate your work. I went with thinner locs. But can you drop a link for that type of durag? The wave durag is killing my head with the ties.

One drawback to thicker locs is it takes longer to dry so mold is more of an issue If you aren't careful
🔒
Also the thicker they are the harder to style them too
🔒✊🏾🔒✊🏾Good video bro and yes most of time u have a natural thick hair your locs will be come thick and mine finally starting to lay down and I will be 1 year loc on Sunday on the 18th so excited and u right about the parting System is the most important foundation of having locs stay loc one love
Yessir 🔒
I started my journey January and I was feeling the same way. I got them on my bday and didn’t wanna take em out when I went for my first retwist. Imma ride mine out bcuz I do feel when they get long they gonna really look good and I will look back and b grateful I didn’t redo them 😂 💪🏿🖤🔒
ride it out my g
Nice dreads bruh.. do u sleep with the Durag on? Cus I can imagine that it doesn’t stay on ?
i got 108 and in my opinion. dreads can always be combined but you cant make them any smaller and even if you dont want to combine you could always do a two strand twist to look more bold. you lose hairstyles with thicker dreads they won’t bend the same wont fall the same ect. if you worried ab them falling out combine. i say always start smaller but thats jus me. my gf got 54 i got 108 so i see both sides of it
🔒
Thank you for this video! I have medium to large squares. I have 38 started locs with beautiful clean parts. (I am only 2 weeks in!) But I am terrified of them getting too thick! But...I know that (as you've stated), the base/foundation of the locs is key. You also mentioned that you cut/trimmed your locs. Did they seal back nicely? I believe the one thing that is comforting me is the fact that I can "probably" trim off an inch or two (maybe about once a year or so) if I feel they are too thick and heavy. Is trimming thicker locs a good option for keeping off weight and keeping them healthy looking?
How do your locs look now i just started and i have 37 and i want to know if they get to big
@@mjmj9012 They are absolutely gorgeous! I am loving them.
Ask them to hit the like button at the end cos they can’t determine whether they like the vid yet. Nice locs 🗣
Just Started My Loc Journey 3days ago with 2 strand twist im so excited i’ve always wanted dreads an i come from a caribbean background an would always get told not to get them because of stigmas against dreads but now im 23 an decided f*ck everyone im getting dreads an i’m never looking back😂💪🏽
My man. Welcome to da Gang. I’m excited for your journey 🔒
I had 200 but just combined them down to 100. Absolutely the best decision ive made since starting my journey.

just a tip if you interlock properly the locs will stay strong and it wont thin out
🔒
I had hightop locs and i cut em off a week ago cuz i wanted a full set of thick dreads
Second time around will be the one 🔒
Can i start my dreads by comb coil from the roots then 2 strand twist the rest way down? Love from Shreveport Louisiana🤝✨✨
I’m sure you can but why both? 🔒
So would it be better if just get 2 strand twist? But the reason I said that is because when you get a retwist it would look like comb coil from the root but really 2 strand twist
my thing is can i split my thick locs if i want them thinner once they already matured and loced fully?
I have like 160 something locs and I love each and every one of them
Mine to thick at 8cm only thing I don’t like is way less style options

I got 17 locs diamond pattern 2 months in two strand twist method

This not even a question you should always start with thicker locks😂

9mm or 7mm? I'm about to get my starter locks in a couple weeks
Hell naw medium dreads are the best. I got a high top fade and i still have around 60 dreads
@@propanesalesman660 nah that’s the worst 😂
@@33guod how come?
The sides of my head is shaved off so I’m going for the high top locs look, like ddg. I want them about your size so I figure I would start small two strand twist and have about 60?
hows your hair so far
I think I got a hundred some locs n I wish they were still the same size I had my auntie start doing em n they thinned out
Yea that’s what happens to me 🔒
If you want your locs thicker than they already are just go 2 months with out a retwist you shouldn't have to restart you can redo your base of yo locks my locs was tiny I started doing them less and boom they became thicker and fuller me I like the frizz but honestly what you are starting with is not how it's go look in the future let them grow and mature
I had about 50 starter coils to begin with n i separated them to 100 because i wanted more to cover my head n they’re pretty skinny. Will they thicken as time goes on and could I combine them n make them bigger that way?
Funny because I went thru the same thing when I first started locs. They were thick but because of my hair texture they kept coming lose or I was like very impatient. So I got them started over and they were much thinner. It all depends on your hair texture. 🔒🔒🔒🔒
For sure 🔒
I started with the plats
I started with twist 🔒
I started with twist as well.
i wanna comb my hair out and start with diamonds but it’s no point cause my starter stage abiut to end almost 3 months in on the 25th
Do what’s best for you 🔒

I have about 40 something locs now. My thing is that's about the sweet spot, I dont want a lot of locs but I also don't want them too thick & mines are thick asl. I wanna restart them cuz I don't like when I be in the mirror & they look thicker than they feel. Still thinking on it tho cuz the shit do look good on me.
as long as you like it bro thats all that matters
Currently have 36 but transitioning to full head soon.
Go for it 🔥🔥
Help me out how does that work exactly
How that work
I got 60 dreadlocks and I'm still letting parts of my hair grow so it will increase a little bit in time but still under 70
🔒
@@VinnyMatthews I also have triangle parts I just started them instant locs crochet I used to have grid pattern and I started in 2017 I just got these new ones less than a month ago
@@VinnyMatthews is there a way I could show you my old dreads and my new ones?
🔒
make sure you give them a number, a picture and saying you want them small is not enough.
My locs look tho right now I have comb coils
Will I eventually get thick locs
I didn’t know what wanted I wanted
And that’s ok. It forces us to appreciate what we have
Can you make more locs than you started with as time goes on? I just started mine today and I feel like I don’t have enough
Yea you can split them 🔒
That’s actually what I do…I started off with 65 then my hair got thicker then I went to 80 now I’m at like 110 and still splitting a few I just untwist split in 2 then retwist a lot of water makes them loc quicker
Locs are like fingerprints. Nobody locs are identical
I like that 🔒

do starter stage last 3 or 6 months? i hope mine don’t last 6 months
Do what’s best for you 🔒
I just counted and I have 85 locs, didnt even know I had that much and I only started 7 months ago
I got about 90 somethin 🔒🔒
My mom just did my starter coil locs a few days ago and I counted 60, but I’m thinking of splitting a few to get to 70-75
I have thicker loc bro. Keep them you’ll be thankful later
🔒🔒🔒
Facts 🔒
Does it really matter how many locs because right now I have 2 strand starters and I’ve had them in for about 4-5 months
I also have 40 2 strand twists so and I also I have a fade in the back and on the sides
I want to twist my hair for to start dreadlocks. But is the amount of twists the amount of dreads you will have?
Yes 🔒

Twist my own locs 7 - 8 years

Have about 74 thin locks what better thick or
soo should starter locs(with twists) be started off bigger than you want them to be when they mature or smaller? i watched the whole video and i didnt get a clear answer
i have 72 twists(with a hightop) they are about medium width..but im trying to picture them matured and im wondering will they be smaller than they are now? or bigger ?
It all depends on your hair type. Some will grow bigger some will grow small 🔒
36 locs guys wooo
I got a question can someone answer ,will two strand twist still lock if starting off Dey half unraveled but still holdin on
Did you figure out
Yea the locked
The thick the better they are your dreadlocks.!!!!💯💯😃😃🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I think wicks are dope 🔒
Mine ain’t to thick I think they’re ore on the medium side. But give me look and tell me what you think on my channel
Send me ya locks 🔒
Keep them
My thoughts exactly
I have 36 should i keep them
with his hair type start with skinny locs because they will thicken out
I don’t recommend thin locs, you will end up combining them down the line no cap, start with bigger locs ( larger parts). Sister locs and micro locs lmfao is a waste of time especially during a retwist
Nocap and yo retwist finna take hella long
I have a smaller head with 4a 4b hair thick hair with 73 locs I don't want skinny locs. Will this produce thick or atleast med/ thick locs?
Depending on your hair sections. Your hair type does tend to get thicker in time
@@VinnyMatthews thx for responding. They are smaller around perimeter. Could I measure acfew parts to get general ideas?

Started my locs in 2018 cut them in 2022 and they ended up too thick couldn’t do too many styles and ponytails would make rubber bands and stuff pop trying to tie my hair so now I’m restarting with two strand twist

My locs be coming loose at times and my stylist was like the person who started them off made them too small. My stylist who does my hair says that she needs to interlock them I have about 140 I think but I don’t want a less than 100 of them if I do let her interlock them.
140 is a lot. But if you want them small then go for it 🔥🔒
@@VinnyMatthews I’m gone let her combine them or interlock I mean so they’ll stop unraveling I just don’t want them too thick but I don’t want em really skinny either. More so a medium size

I have like a 100 on a high top and I don’t like how skinny they are. I wanna combine down to about 80 or should I just restart?
100 on a high top way too much
