Speaking as someone that almost got kicked out of their dorm over an electric griddle, the microwave grill this is worth the $40 if you live in a college dorm or flat where you can only have a microwave.
How can one live with only a microwave? There is absolutly no ability to make a healthy meal (without that not widely known product). And this is in housing supplied by the school? That just sounds like abuse.
I only have a microwave at the moment too and I'm renting an appartment. And to be honest, its not too bad? Very annoying, yes, but you can cook rice/pasta in there, and veg, and meat (i mainly use IKEA meatballs, hotdog sausages and mincemeat), put it all together and you got yourself a pretty good meal. Potatoes work too. And it doesn't taste bad at all and I wouldnt say theyre very unhealthy, about similar to what I usually ate at home. Just no herbs or salt cause I can't be bothered

Love the Norlan glasses. I’ve got the clear ones. Some whiskies taste better in that. Some are better in a Glencairn. But it is a really fun exercise to switch from one to another and see which notes arise from each.
I have those whiskey glasses and love them. They’re really pretty too, when you look inside the insulated part is clear glass and the inside of the black edge is mirrored, so when there is whiskey inside it’s like a golden kaleidoscope.
I can see that microwave grill being good for students and if I'm going to taste a nice whisky I'd get a Glencairn which cost like 5quid instead of spending 60 on them Norlan ones.
The first one could be used to make daikon bacon, which is actually insanely like bacon. For anyone interested, here's how you make it. Cut/peel Daikon into bacon-like sheets. Rub them in (too much) salt and set aside for 30 minutes. Wash off the excess salt and dry them with a tea towel. Make a mixture of liquid smoke, smoked paprika, onion and garlic powders. Rub the Daikon sheets in the mixture and fry in a pan like regular bacon!
The only reason the whiskey tastes different is the shape of the glass. You would get the same effect with any glass with a vaguely tulip shape to it. That cup was about 40-50% marketing wank
Nope, it just keeps whiskey colder, thus more mellow. For people who don't like the taste of whiskey, it will taste better. People who like whiskey would never put ice in it in the first place.
@@masansr though you’re right that the double wall design would keep your hand from warming the whisky while you drink it there IS an effect of the tapering of the glass. Having a reasonably sized chamber and a taper to the top let’s the aroma collect and then get directed towards the nose as the glass is tipped over. That’s why the glencairn is so popular with whisky drinkers, it has that vague tulip shape and a place to grab it that would limit the amount of heat that gets transferred to the whisky.
@@nakkadu it’s more about the collection of aroma than about heat. Been looking forward to this all weekend. Another quality video!!! James' innuendo, Jamie's Kenwood plug, their reactions to the prices, Barry's struggling expressions, Mike's cheeky laughs, and their reactions to the whiskey glass description. Your videos are amazing and you guys are awesome! Keep up the great work👍❤️😄
First item is aaaaawesome for large stirfry prep! Even thickness on everything cooks great. (just slice stuff into 1" squares... or 3cm diamonds... or use miniature cookie cutters. Or a candy press!
I bought those glasses last year for my husbands birthday and we both really like them (he never read the packaging though lol) though Mikes reaction to barry agreeing with James gets me every time. pure gold.
Yet another of my favorite types of videos 👏 I propose you have some type of challenge where you have to use a few of the crazy gadgets you’ve reviewed!
I was reading through comments thinking, "really, is nobody going to bring up this awesome Ben level joke?" Then I saw your comment and instinctively gave it a like. I then retracted my like to get you back to 69 upvotes.
That microwave thing would be so good for dorm room cooking, and honestly, disabled people who struggle to use the oven. I think my friend with bad allergies has one very similar that she uses to cook individual meals that the rest of her family doesn't eat.
1). The veg stripper is kinda good actually especially for someone who's not good with knife. You can use the vegs for any salad dishes or sushi. 2). I would invest for the platinum grill thing whether I have stove or not and it does makes sense the price is quite high since it's made from platinum.
As pricey as it is, I could easily see myself using that microwave toasty maker. I spend a lot of time in hotels for my job, so having something that I can make healthier meals and not spend so much in restaurants and fast food is an absolute win.
The look of absolute disgust on Mike's face when James doesn't hate the last one is the absolute best thing. I'm so amused (yes I know that's a lame word but how else do you describe that moment when you can't stop chuckling?)
It would be great if you did this again but did a comparison with a 'cheap' option. So give them two items, let them guess what it is then guess which one is more expensive. Work out if the price is really worth it.
That veggie sheet maker, we used to make appetizers and stuff with at a restaurant i used to work at, but it was much more industrial and you could put in large odd shaped veggies 3x bigger than what yall were using, and also had different attachments to also make em into shreds or noodles.
I'd like to see Chef vs. Normals battles where there's a gadget based handicap. Like both are trying to prepare a similar meal but the chef's can only use the Microwave and associated gadgets like that grill or others designed to improve microwave food. Or the chefs cook normally but the normals get to use Sous Vide.
This week's Dad Joke of the Week is the second best farmer joke after: Did you hear about the farmer who got a Nobel Prize? He was out standing in his field.
The "platinum" in "platinum silicone" made me doubt the claim that it wasn't metal, as platinum definitely is a metal. But apparently the platinum is only used as a catalyst in the production of this grade of silicone. The More You Know...
When will we see the next pass it on? Also can we have it so that Jamie or Barry have to sabotage the dish and the rest of them have to eat the full thing but if they suspect sabotage, the sabatour himself is forced to eat the whole thing creating a interesting situation where they want to ruin it but not so badly that it is too obvious
I have two sets of the Norlan glasses - the veiled ones they showed in the video and the original clear set the company started with. I enjoy them, and the veiled set really does make your whiskey look gorgeous in the glass. It almost glows.
I can so see that microwave grill being amazing for an office or dorm. Not going to lie I kinda want to buy it for myself for exactly those reasons. School and long work days. Feck now I want to find one.
Life is too short to not be able to eat well where you spend most of your time. If it would let you eat more meals that you'd enjoy with less stress, then it would absolutely be worth the money!
The microwave plate costs so much because it's made with a platinum alloy. The glass works by altering how air interacts with the whiskey, creating a dense pocket of scent when you bring it up to your nose, and by altering how it hits your tongue giving a different feel and exposure to different parts of your mouth
Betty Bossi is one of Switzerland’s national treasures! Which goes some way to explain the prizes I guess.
@@austingarrett3334 "limits the amount of heat transferred to the whisky"....so it is just a temperature thing.
@@nakkadu it’s more about the collection of aroma than about heat. Any glass with a bulbous shape that tapers in at the top will help a higher proof drink “open up”
Stoping it from heating up is more of a side goal. But for that purpose the glass shown does great. It’s just far overpriced for what it does.
@@austingarrett3334 ok so any glass with that shape would have the same affect?...fair enough, but I enjoy good quality scotch and I don't think I'd be able to notice a taste difference with this glass.....I've not tried it though so only assuming, but at that price I'll keep on assuming 😆
I would have liked to see James try to make sheets with just a knife!
I'd love to see a Chef's battle based on fusion cuisine. There was a delicious restaurant here in NYC that fused Szechuan and Indian. Perhaps two very different cuisines like Polish and Mexican or Russian and Japanese. It would be fascinating to see what the chef's would create.
Do you remember the name of that place? I’d love to try it.
@@thesnakeplant Sorry, Chinese Mirch went out of business. They had been located at Lexington and 28th st., across from Kalustyans. A quick google search shows they have a restaurant in Boston.
@@LightningRound1st That's too bad, so many restaurants open and close in the blink of an eye around here. I'm worried about the places that have gone out of business during the pandemic...maybe someday when I'm in Boston though! Thanks for the rec.
Barry's facial expressions 😂 7:15
Conan has Jordan, Top Gear/Grand Tour has James May, Sorted has Ebbers.
The subtitles for this are very pleasant. There are some additional comments that made the video just that much better
Never gonna get tired of looking at Mike. He is gorgeous.

They are all hot to me in their own way. Just love a man who can make me smile/laugh.
If there’s one thing about James that will never change reviewing kitchen gadgets, it’s the complete contrast between his unfiltered criticism having no time for pretentious and misleading bullshit and the company’s overly glamorised marketing 😂😂 he’s never been afraid to call something out and say what he’s thinking, giving no consideration for anyone else’s feelings 😂😂
I've dreamed of that zoom in on Mike's face for years
Been looking forward to this all weekend. Another quality video!!! James' innuendo, Jamie's Kenwood plug, their reactions to the prices, Barry's struggling expressions, Mike's cheeky laughs, and their reactions to the whiskey glass description. Your videos are amazing and you guys are awesome! Keep up the great work👍❤️😄
Ok the little microwave grill thing would be a godsend in a college dorm
Absolutely. Wish I had such a thing back when I was stuck in a shitty tiny place.
First item is aaaaawesome for large stirfry prep! Even thickness on everything cooks great. (just slice stuff into 1" squares... or 3cm diamonds... or use miniature cookie cutters. Or a candy press!
10:40
I have never had a glass of whiskey where it got metaphysical and broke the laws of space-time on me. Bravo and just for 60 pounds.
We like this idea 😉
SORTEDfood Yes I cant wait!!
Barry's pain at the whiskey glass probably the best thing ever!!!
"We got in and then we finished."
James has been hanging out with Ben too much.
It’s currently on offer on Amazon uk
Loved that little Kenwood plug! 😂
The look of absolute disgust on Mike's face when James doesn't hate the last one is the absolute best thing. I'm so amused (yes I know that's a lame word but how else do you describe that moment when you can't stop chuckling?)
I loved it!
It would be great if you did this again but did a comparison with a 'cheap' option. So give them two items, let them guess what it is then guess which one is more expensive. Work out if the price is really worth it.
“We got in and then we finished” 😂 don’t worry Jamie it can happen to the best of us
Gadgets are my favorite of their episodes.
4:57 With Subtitles. Love how bad CC generator confuses your accents. Always enjoy Gadget reviews from you guys 👍
“Tastes like metal”
- Jamie 2019
That veggie sheet maker, we used to make appetizers and stuff with at a restaurant i used to work at, but it was much more industrial and you could put in large odd shaped veggies 3x bigger than what yall were using, and also had different attachments to also make em into shreds or noodles.
"quality gadge" sounds sooooo filthy....
I want some.
Love this!!
"Forty pounds?! That ... is a very expensive way to lose a thumb!"
I love watching these old Sorted videos when I have piles of work that need to be done soon, yet I have the urge to ruin my life.
Idea: Food Battle, where those competing can only use the kitchen gadgets that have thus far been featured on the channel to prepare with
Could you guys please make more cooking battle videos ?? I love them sooo much
This week's Dad Joke of the Week is the second best farmer joke after:
Did you hear about the farmer who got a Nobel Prize?
He was out standing in his field.
😂
omg sorted is on trending...I'm not crying, you are
I really want to see them testing wish cooking products. It'll be a good laugh 😂 😂
This sounds like an interesting idea 😉
Or any one of the normals or even crew.
not on this week's schedule (but the shows this week are darn good)
Jack Bryan Football ye but let’s be honest, it would be funnier with Jamie or Barry
When will there be more pass it on?? Those are my favourite challenges. They were the reason I got hooked on watching you guys!
I do appreciate some fancy gadge.
"we got in and then we finished" goodnight everybody!
I want that toasted sandwich.
"Aioli, how would you make it, mate?"
-- describes making a garlic mayonnaise instead of an aioli
(also: "it's not metal, it's 100% platinum-silicon"... platinum is a metal, you dork!)
@@MelissiaBlackheart Nope. Its Silicone that has Platinum in it. But its not "metal" in the traditional sense.
@@Shaftronics Which still means it technically has a metal in it.
Though I suppose it depends on if the platinum is an ingredient or a catalyst.
Ah, yes, thank you! I annoys me so much when people call garlic mayo Allioli.
@@MelissiaBlackheart Do you consider salt a metal? Seeing as it has sodium in it.
Betty Bossi is one of Switzerland’s national treasures! Which goes some way to explain the prizes I guess. Over here, the company is mainly popular because they create brilliant, easy to follow recipes. You’d be hard pressed to find a Swiss household with no Betty Bossi cook books.
They do actually have a few really good gadgets. Some of which are almost aggressively Swiss. They sell a sieve-type thingy that lets you push boiled potatoes right through it and they come out peeled and coarsely grated within seconds. You know, in case you need Rösti NOW!!
The microwave grill is perfect for students without a proper kitchen!
Except it is very expensive, a Geroge Foreman Grill will do a better job for less money
What kind of student wouldn't have a hob?
Niele Prior Americans
@@enumeration A lot of colleges don't allow stoves in dorms or suites because of potential fire hazards.
@@supersneakyshrub3975 That's interesting, where abouts are you located? Every student accommodation I have ever seen or heard about has always had a kitchen.
I love how you guys are using the hakushu single malt, which is one of my favorite whiskys
I want that Microwave Grill Thingy!!!
Absolutely lovely to see how much you have grown in the past few years that I have been watching you congratulations on being 26 on trending hope you go higher
"Make Whiskey taste better", said ice cubes, honey, or James. lol
8:49 I know that feeling all to well 😂
"It's not metal, It's platinum"
Mike 2019
He's right tho. its a NOBLE METAL! :D
Platinum silicone doesnt contain platinum, platinum is a catalyst used in the curing process, easy mistake to make
We have had the Norlan glasses sitting on our shelf for months and never tried them. (They were a gift) now we are trying them as soon as the hubs gets home!
