When Elvis died, I was with my mother at a Drs appointment. She was with the Dr, and I was in the waiting room. They announced it over the speakers that Elvis had died. Everyone in the waiting room burst out crying. I was shocked. When we left, I asked my mother. "Who is Elvis Presley?" She said, "The best-looking man that ever lived." So, for years I thought that was what he was famous for.

So glad you’re discovering what a great person Elvis was. He sang this song in the midst of the civil rights movement which is probably why colonel Parker didn’t want him to do it. Elvis had a deep love and respect for the black community and was never afraid to show it.

It was Elvis’ reaction to the news of Kennedy’s assassination that lead to the creation of the song "If I Can Dream," a tribute song to King, featuring direct quotes from the Civil Rights leader. In the spring of '68, Elvis was working on his upcoming TV special, "Elvis." After seeing the news about Kennedy's death on TV, Elvis spent an entire night with the show's director, Steve Binder, and his friends, talking about the assassinations and Elvis' wishes for the world. The conversation was heartfelt and honest, and Binder believed Elvis had an important message for the country. Binder then went to the show's Musical Director Billy Goldenberg and songwriter Earl Brown and told them about the discussion. He wanted a powerful, meaningful song that would close out the TV special. Because the special was slated to air in December, the producers and Elvis' manager, Col. Tom Parker, had planned to end the show with a Christmas song, but Binder had other ideas. It wasn't long before "If I Can Dream" was born

When Elvis did his '68 Comeback Special, it was because he had returned from his Army duty and Colonel Parker made him go full blast on getting back to music, concerts and of course money. He ensured that Elvis would do tons of movies with singing of course, so that he'd be in people's faces constantly. At the end of his '68 Special, he was to do a song to end the show and Elvis wanted to do this one but Colonel didn't want him to, as to not ruin his reputation. This was soon after Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated and it broke Elvis' heart and he wanted to pay tribute to those two. So he insisted he was going to do it, regardless of what the Colonel wanted. If you listen to the lyrics, there were quite a few lines from MLK's 'I have a dream' speech. Once he finished and the curtains closed, Elvis crumpled to the ground and cried for a very long time. He sang that song only twice (that I have found out) as it was way too emotional for him. Yes, please listen to 'In The Guetto' by Mac Davis and 'Elvis & the Black Community and you will see how poor Elvis was and how he hung around with black people and went to their churches. You're going to be awfully surprised. Hope you will do a reaction to those two.

His family was so poor his father wrote a bad check for food. He went to jail, and Elvis and his mom became homeless. They ended up in the projects. Growing up, he was mocked endlessly. He never forgot. He found solitude going to a black church where he first sang and felt at home. He never, ever forgot his roots

I read in a book about Elvis' life that he and James Brown, yes that James Brown became such close friends that when Elvis' funeral was set, James Brown arrived early and was the first guest. After the service was over and everyone had left, Mr. Brown sat down next to Elvis' casket and cried like a baby for so long security had to gently pick him up and escort him back to his car. That's how much James Brown loved Elvis. Very touching story.

How we met was kind of a long story but i will not explain because people judged and commented nasty hurtful things about things they know nothing about that hurt me deeply So i will not post anything about our friendship ever again, We had a short conversation a few days before his death we were both very emotional. i will love and miss my friend forever. i walk past Graceland everyday sometimes i go in and walk around the grounds and talk to my friend at his final resting place. they know me there lol. All they say is hey girl what's up. love to you from the one and only Memphis Tn. Great reaction young man.

This was written for Elvis following the deaths of Dr. King and Bobby Kennedy, which broke him - especially MLK. He had friends from Memphis who had a stake in Dr. King's Dream. Elvis rarely got political, but this was the one time where he threw caution to the wind and took a stand for Civil Rights. He felt like if he was going to do something, this was the time. Remember, they called rock music in the 50s "the devil's music" and "n-word music." Until Ed Sullivan called him a "decent, fine boy," Elvis was lumped in with black artists because of the music he sang, so he faced some level of discrimination, too. Not to the same extent, obviously, but I'm sure it didn't go over well in Tennessee for a white kid to be hanging out with black kids, going to black church and hanging out in black night clubs. His very presence and Ed Sullivan's endorsement opened so many doors, not just for Elvis, but for black artists who created the music. If you haven't seen "Elvis and the Black Community," you should.

The more our new generations get into music like Elvis the better. Top tier musical performance right there. Elvis was inducted into 5 different Halls of Fame: Rock&Roll, Country, Rockabilly, Gospel, and R&B. He also holds the record for the most platinum records for singles and albums (nationally, I don't know about globally) so you know nobody is gonna top him.
Not everything is gonna hit, some of his movie songs are kinda lackluster, but the 68 Special is fire. His gospel music is powerful too, if you're inclined, listen to Bridge Over Troubled Water or Amazing Grace.

Man, it's so great to see young people discover the magic of Elvis and his music. For black people, he's almost like forbidden fruit, because of the history of smearing his name with FALSE racism claims from none other than JET magazine in either 1956 or 57. Then with Public Enemy calling him racist in the late 80's, that turned off another generation of black people against him for no reason. THAT'S why you're barely hearing him now. Thankfully, you have, now you can go down the rabbit hole, and plenty of us Elvis fans will help you. My request is for Stranger In My Own Home Town, the x-rated version! Check it out!!

Elvis's story is a sad story these two songs that gave you chills is what he wanted to sing. He was inspired by the music where he grew up blues clubs and gospel. I am so sad that we barely got to hear Elvis's story. He loved everyone and grew up in a time that this was so important to hear. He loved everyone. He wanted to sing gospel soul and blues and it just wasn't ok back then and for these reasons he never traveled the world They caged and controlled him and we were robbed of the beautiful wonderful passionate messages this man had inside. 😢but he made the ones he did get out impossible to ignore! He loved and respected MLK, he was truly feeling ever word of this song as well as everyone in listening to him that day. Elvis was the real deal. Also, I’m very careful about where I get my info about Elvis, but all you hear even from Pricilla is true. His gospel backup singers knew him best, they knew his heart. One of the many times he performed at the Astrodome in Houston, he was told his backup singers could not perform because they were black. Elvis was to perform at the Astrodome in 1968, when he got there he was told his back up singers The Sweet Inspirations could not perform with him. One of those back up singers was Whitney Houston's mom. He said okay and proceeded to leave. He said if they can't sing with me then I'm leaving also. Well just happens his back up singers are brought into the Astrodome in convertibles. Elvis did not play. Basically he was saying the ball is in your court, play it the way you want

Thank you for listening to Elvis. I grew up in the Elvis era and no one could come close to him as far as singing. It didn't hurt that he was so handsome. ❤

Young man I love your reaction to the greatest solo performer in the history of music ! Elvis changed everything with his passion his amazing voice and his love for mankind !! I was 13 in 1974 when seen him at the Nassau coliseum 5 rows from the stage !! My sister took me and my brother and her son my nephew who was only a year younger than me . I have to admit I got distracted by the women throwing there tops and bras on the stage ! Lol ….. But seriously it was an incredible experience that I will never forget !! Young man there’s a reason everyone calls him the king 🤴

I thoroughly enjoyed this reaction. We GOT to come together... in spite of anyone from any side that doesn't want it to happen. New generation - new chance to change the world.

You need to watch Elvis and the Black Community and Elvis: The King of Kindness. They are getting a few years on them now, but they help see the nature of the man and not the lies centered around him.

Elvis was a close friend of MLK and Elvis said Martin was a mentor to him. Elvis was born in Tupello Mississippi.

Second review I have watched of yours and as a white 62 year old man from England, it is my pleasure to say how much I appreciated your critique of Elvis Presley you gave to his performances of In The Ghetto and If I could Dream.
I can honestly say I laughed, cried and then jumped up and down (not easy for me as I'm v large) and prayed that you grow stronger and stronger in the UA-cam world.
Keep safe you beautiful human and I am hooked for life X (X is a British kiss)

Isn't it a wonderful feeling to watch someone fall in love with EL☆IS. We know E would be humbled and honored by new fans. And the ones who appreciated his soulful songs/performances, the ones he had control over. His pride and joy. So very sad for everyone that he left us at 42.
