I was 10 when this came out and I remember this track was huge. My older sister played it nonstop. He was made to be joke a few years later (see Jim Carrey doing a Vanilla Ice impersonation on "In Living Color") but this was the jam at the time and Vanilla Ice, along with MC Hammer and a few others got me into rap/hip hop so I respect the guy.
This dropped in the year 1990 man. It was huge phenomenon. You don't understand, it was being played EVERYWHERE!!!!! The mall, radio stations which were huge back in 1990 this is the hey day of radio man. You could call in and dedicate a song to your girl and request songs if you were partying and this song was in rotation on every radio station and you could request it back to back! It was definitely something and it was catchy and just a party song. Its up there with Sir-Mix-Alot Posse On Broadway and Baby Got Back. Timeless and ageless songs! I liked your reaction and nice to see young cats getting in tune with the hip-hop we as an older generation listened to. This is 90s I from 1969 and by the time I got into hip-hop I was listening to Kool Moe Dee underground tapes and Kurtis Blow and Whoodini in 79-80 then Fat Boys and Run DMC. The birth of hip-hop which paved the way for N.W.A and all the artists of that era who in turn carve a path for Vanilla Ice and Ghetto Boyz and MC Hammer. Great times and great vibes back then! Nothing like classic hip-hop!!!
It was everywhere back in the day, everyone loved it, they pretended they didn’t but low key jammed out! “If my mind was a drug I’d sell it by the gram!” Love that line!
Honestly...it blows my mind to see the younger generation enjoy the type of music grew up listening to...I was in my early teens when Vanilla Ice and McHammer came out... that was a time when skin color didn't matter for most people...what happened to that?
I love everything about Digital Underground, except their Humpty stuff. Shock G (RIP) & Money B can drop some beats. Sex Packets is one of my favorite's.
Rodney O and Joe Cooley- This is for the homies, badass bass groove back in 1988! 3rd Bass, chuck chillout and cool chip, Nemesis- munchies for your bass, king tee- Bass, N2 Deep- back 2 the hotel

1. The bass was not sampled and it is slightly different. 2. Van Winkle sampled the 2 piano notes in that intro...thats why he lost in court. 3. Van Winkle bought the publishing rights for Ice baby, not Under Pressure. 4. Queen& Bowie still get royalties out of "Ice baby" as they are co-writers.
Suge & his goons made ice sign over all royalties which included his recording studio which pretty much ended ices music career because ice was white & suge & his goons are all racists…
This never gets old . The media tried to shame him back n the day . We all know how that goes. This song was out cold back then ( did I just say our cold ? ) lol
Great reaction video. I was 20 when the song came out, and like everyone (who was there) is saying, it was huge. A massive hit. So different from regular pop music, it made people question what was actually "good music" back then. Thanks for posting, brought back good memories.
Found this story from queen's pa When he first heard it, Freddie just listened to the start and thought it was Under Pressure being played on the radio again. He carried on eating his breakfast and suddenly stopped, frowning. I thought there was a problem with his food but he said ‘no’. He started listening intently and couldn’t believe his ears. He was smiling when he said that he couldn’t believe what he was hearing…. a blatant rip-off. He got hold of Jim Beach, who was already on the case and left it at that, always remembering that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Pretty much every rap song then, featured samples from old rock bands. The issue wasn't that it was there, the issue was that they didn't have permission for it. It was only meant to be a b-side originally, so it was a major slip up on the labels part. Not even "Ice"'s fault particularly, and yet he got treated like Milli Vanilli for doing what all other rappers did.
I am not ashamed to admit I loved jamming to this song, and was really my first introduction in the hip hop rap genre! If you want more like this, you want to check out, anything from the Bestie Boys, Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch, The song Informer, by the singer Snow, and House of Pain's Jump Around 😎
This was the first album I ever owned. Got the cassette for my birthday right before second grade started and won a dance competition to it in the after school program later in the year 🥰 And I still blast it with no shame when it comes on and spit every word lol

I loved your reaction to this song. I was a senior in college when this song came out…lots of good times at the club dancing to this song. I still dance to this song every time it plays on my Spotify playlist. Btw, if no one said anything about the earring on one ear, back then that’s how straight dudes wore earrings. It was rare to see a guy wearing earrings in both ears.
I'm from England and in the 90's this would be the highlight of every dance scene. If this came on everybody got on the dance floor and the volume was turned way up.
It was very cool and fun watching you react Shon, especially since you don't know the history. Vanilla Ice was laughed at for this song even though it was a huge hit. It was because he was the first white rapper. And he was good. He had to endure a lot of ridicule. He never had another big hit like this and he fell into a deep depression and nearly committed suicide. He credits the birth of his daughter for saving his life. He was ashamed of his music career then, but everyone loves him again now. He was very cool and very sweet and never deserved the bad rap he got. I'm glad he made it out. He's still making some tunes somewhere but I don't know their names.
The nineties are remembered very fondly these days. And yeah... he really never did deserve the shit he got from people. I don't think he was ever accepted as a rapper by the rap community. But, much like Eminem, he bridged a gap between rap and the mainstream. HE paved the way for guys like Eminem, and yet Eminem gets all of the credit. It's a damn shame.
Damn it's been a while since I've heard Ice.. but yea this dude is arguably the first white rapper.. also in the 80s and 90s the left ear being pierced was a common/popular fashion amongst men
This came out in 1990. He was 16 years old. This was sold on a 45 vinyl. Back then the 45 had an "A" side & a "B" side. The "A" side had the hit & the "B" side had a song u never hear by the same artist. Ice Ice Baby was on the "B" side. When a DJ got his copy he listened 2 the B side & Ice Ice Baby was the song. On the "A" side is a song u probably know called "Play That Funky Music (white boy)." I believe the album is still selling over 300,000,000 copies a year world wide!

Jim Carrey when he was on In Living Color in early '92 did a spoof of this song in a skit where he was performing as Vanilla Ice and his DJ a baby faced young Marlon Wayans (billed then as SW-1) and it's funny as f*ck. The chorus is changed from Ice Ice Baby to ...., well, I don't want to spoil the surprise, but they are definitely clownin' Ice. The line though I bring up cause you mentioned it in your video is the part 'drivin' in my 5 point O with the ragtop pulled down so my hair can blow.' In the skit, his back up singers finish the lyrics with, 'Yo Vanilla, you rockin' a flat top, your hair don't blow.' It's on UA-cam

I’ve listened to this song ever since it came out in the 90’s. I hate things happened the way they did, when David Bowie and Queen sued him over the beat of the song. After that, his music career was basically over. I felt bad for him then and I still do. He had serious talent, he could rap, sing and most certainly he could dance !! He never got the credit he deserved and too many people didn’t appreciate the talent he had. But I will say this, he picked himself up and dusted himself off and he continued to excel in other areas. He had a show on HGTV for about 8 years, so he is talented in construction as well. I commend him for finding other endeavors and excelling in them, after the way he was often treated. This song is recognized worldwide , and whether people want to admit it or not, they enjoy this song and have fun with it. To this day when the song is played, people start dancing or singing along with it, or at the very least tap their foot to it. He never got the credit he deserved for being the artist he was. I was and always will be a Vanilla Ice fan. Thank you for doing this reaction ! It brought back good memories from the 90’s.

He wrote the song when he was 16. I love him!
This record was released in 1990, Thirty Three years ago. That is amazing as it's as fresh as if it was today
80 s and 90 s music was the best
This tune will be good 1000 years from now
I was 10 when this came out and I remember this track was huge.
Same
produced by Vanilla Ice. His debut was produced by him alone. First Rap song to reached #1 on the US Billboard hot 100.
Yes, Facts!
I graduated in 88.
Indeed! Superior times!
The MC Hammer influence is so there! This came out around 89ish.
We danced our asses off to this! 😊❤
I’m an 88 grad as well, such great music!
No matter what else, the bars he drops in this song are straight fire.
Believe it or not this man Robert Van Winkle is still making millions on this song bro and this is in 1992
Graffiti, DJ, dancing, rapping, and a shout out to Big Daddy Kane. Vanilla Ice made one of the most hip hop videos in history.
Rob has he’s own UA-cam channel, worth watching, he’s really a nice guy 👍
It was everywhere back in the day, everyone loved it, they pretended they didn’t but low key jammed out! “If my mind was a drug I’d sell it by the gram!” Love that line!
Well, you got the line wrong, my friend.
If my RHYME was a drug, I'd sell it by the gram.
@@shelbyseelbach9568 your correct, my bad. Either way great line
This joint came out and EXPLODED! You can't not like it or dance 💃 unless you don't have a pulse. Ahhh, my teen years.❤
hell yea, good times cousin
Popular song in the day. ⚡
The music from Ice Ice Baby was taken from Queen and David Bowie's song Under Pressure!
Honestly...it blows my mind to see the younger generation enjoy the type of music grew up listening to...I was in my early teens when Vanilla Ice and McHammer came out... that was a time when skin color didn't matter for most people...what happened to that?
Exactly!
I recall a lot of shade thrown at Vanilla Ice for being white. Same era as White Men Can't Jump.
@@AngelCoyoteMusic Damn! It's been awhile since I've seen that movie. Yeah it was a different time back then...a better time in my opinion...
late 80s and early 90s rap needs to make a come back.
Another one that I used to listen to back in the say is Digital Underground with the Humpty Dance. If you have not heard it you will love it.
Vanilla ice used to tour with digital underground and Mc hammer . They all respected him and had his back.
I was a junior in high school when ice ice baby came out. Hearing this song and others from that time sure do bring back memories.
One Hit Wonder ‼️‼️‼️
But what a cool hit 💥💥💥💯
Vanilla Ice Ice Baby ❣️
So fun man! Smiled and laughed thru the whole thing. Thanks for that
It’s still iconic worldwide. One of the first white rappers. 😊😊
Nice reaction- you’re so enthusiastic! ❤
He got threatened by Suge Knight so he handed over his millions. Suge started Death Row Records with it.
MC Hammer came out with Can’t Touch This the same year- ‘90.
And MC Hammer was on death row records
1. The bass was not sampled and it is slightly different.
2. Van Winkle sampled the 2 piano notes in that intro...thats why he lost in court.
3. Van Winkle bought the publishing rights for Ice baby, not Under Pressure.
4. Queen& Bowie still get royalties out of "Ice baby" as they are co-writers.
he didnt hand over millions to suge... lol wtf
One of the best
Suge & his goons made ice sign over all royalties which included his recording studio which pretty much ended ices music career because ice was white & suge & his goons are all racists…
This never gets old . The media tried to shame him back n the day . We all know how that goes. This song was out cold back then ( did I just say our cold ? ) lol
its always great to see the younger generation love music i was raised on. Great reaction
Great reaction video. I was 20 when the song came out, and like everyone (who was there) is saying, it was huge. A massive hit. So different from regular pop music, it made people question what was actually "good music" back then. Thanks for posting, brought back good memories.
Shon is Amazed 😂🤣😅
Ice ice Baby 🔥
Dude got done dirty. these verses are still fire and his underground shot was eve better.
Found this story from queen's pa
When he first heard it, Freddie just listened to the start and thought it was Under Pressure being played on the radio again.
I just died when you said I thought he was white! You are the best!! Man, I’m glad I found you!
This is one of my favorites to bust out at family parties. Dance and all. Cousins and all. 😂
This song will rock any party over 30 years it came out love it ❤❤❤🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
I am not ashamed to admit I loved jamming to this song, and was really my first introduction in the hip hop rap genre! If you want more like this, you want to check out, anything from the Bestie Boys, Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch, The song Informer, by the singer Snow, and House of Pain's Jump Around 😎
i still turn up and jam when it comes on in the car...all windows down and get loud! LOL
Can't forget about 3rd Bass✅✅
i think this was from 1990....im now 46 and still rock the mic when i hear it 😀
Your reaction was priceless! Grew up listening to Ice. Absolutely LOVED your reaction. So fun.
I still enjoy this song. In the 80s & 90s it wasn't all about being the hardest person. It was mostly about making good music. #More_Innocent_Times 😋
Back in the day every one was jumping around to this song, I loved it.
4:41 " This wigga is snappin'.. he's snappin' '" 'nuff said.... Yo VIP!
This was the first album I ever owned. Got the cassette for my birthday right before second grade started and won a dance competition to it in the after school program later in the year 🥰 And I still blast it with no shame when it comes on and spit every word lol
Always loved Vanilla Ice and still do. Talented and a nice guy!!! He was rapping before it was popular.
Recently discovered your channel and have enjoyed it. Would LOVE to see you react to Elvis Devil in Disguise.
I am 43 in a few days. I grew up with Vanilla Ice. Best song, Ninja Trutles song.
Your reaction made my day! lol A lot of people thought Ice was a joke back then because he was white, but he had some sweet lyrical and dance skills. But he is a one hit wonder after all...
one hit wonder? go ninja go ninja go
@@rs.matr1x I do not think it was because he was White.... Because The Beastie Boys, Marky Mark and 3rd Bass are all White and rappers.
@@TheRemixstress They all got shit on too.
He actually had multiple hits. Ice Ice Baby was just SO huge that people forgot about the others after a while.
@@TheJokesterSCR No they didn't, I knew plenty of Hip Hop heads that liked 3rd Bass & The Beastie Boys.... Especially, when 3rd Bass was dissing Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer....LMAO
Im old school. Love when u youngsters appreciate all old school music. This is a classic. Still bumping!!
It's awesome you enjoyed this song so much. It's a fun song. Keep that open mind and finding more great music out there! 👍
Yeah, and it's still gay as **ck
We danced to this song. Our generation did a lot of dancing.
Released in 1990. Still iconic today. The earring in the left ear was an 80's and 90's thing that showed a guy was macho and hard.
Largest selling hip hop song in history. The album, To the Extreme, still sells 2 to 3 M copies worldwide each year. Vanilla Ice now does high end S FL beachfront renovations and sells an energy drink. You can watch UA-cam video that shows his reaction to it after all these yrs. Wrote it when 16.
I remember when this song came out (1990)... the radio played this song over and over and over again!! This song exploded on to the scene!! Actually got annoying after a while! lmao
The radio overplayed all the new songs until you got sick of them! 🤦♀️
1992 vanilla ice and he had play that funky music white boy and go ninja go
Bloodhound Gang "The bad Touch" (Official Video) would be a good follow up, Rob Van Winkle (or vanilla Ice) worked with them. Rob also is a BADASS when it comes to home renovation.
The Bloodhound Gang has so much good stuff. The Bad Touch is far from their best song.
@@mattmiller3336 Never said it was their 'best song', just a surprise type vid I thought he would enjoy.
@@theidajawho Agreed. It may have come out wrong.
Just great music from the 80's and 90's. When rap was amazing.
This track is a masterpiece🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He has some awesome car collection! The white car he used in this video well, he has it. IT WAS SO SAD THAT THE RAPPERS FREAKS MADE FUN OF HIM SO BAD. NOW THE ONES WHO SHUT HIM DOWN IS NOW BEING EXPOSE FROM THEIR CRIME!
It’s so awesome to a reaction like yours to music that made Us ❤💋
1990. I started driving and had this tape
Loved your reaction to this!
I love seeing a younger generation discovering and liking some old school!
I love your reactions!!!
Damn it's been a while since I've heard Ice.. but yea this dude is arguably the first white rapper.. also in the 80s and 90s the left ear being pierced was a common/popular fashion amongst men
Left is right, right is wrong!!!
Ummm, Beastie boys...also, I had my left ear only pierced 3 hoops back in the day too, lol
First white rapper? Really? 🤣
@@effer3 Like I said arguably.. and I pretty much meant mainstream rapper..
Love this reaction!! I’m dying over here! This song be kickin’ it!! 😂🤣🙏🏼
The craziest part is he wrote this song when he was only 16.
@@davidrahnis7341 He wrote part of it; he stole the rest.
On the "A" side is a song u probably know called "Play That Funky Music (white boy)." I believe the album is still selling over 300,000,000 copies a year world wide!
this came out same year as mc hammer you can't touch this 1990.
the sample used without permission is queen ft david bowie under pressure.he got in trouble for it.
please do the original.the tumbnail has freddie with a yellow jacket and david with a mint green suit on.
Which is exactly what every rapper ever has done by sampling other people's stuff. Ignorant how people try to say he was the only one that did this
There's absolutely no difference in him sampling Queen song Is every single rapper's in history sampling stuff that wasn't there's either.
*Queen AND David Bowie.
But it has that one extra beat, lol
@@onetruthmediacompanythe difference is now people give credit to the sample.
The line though I bring up cause you mentioned it in your video is the part 'drivin' in my 5 point O with the ragtop pulled down so my hair can blow.' In the skit, his back up singers finish the lyrics with, 'Yo Vanilla, you rockin' a flat top, your hair don't blow.'
It's on UA-cam
You should check out his Rock version of this song. It's actually pretty good
You are so entertaining!!! Loved your reaction to this!! AND yes, we did rock this song in its day!!!
Ok boss. Do Queen “under pressure “ you will see where vanilla ice stole this beat from. Thanks yo 🔥🔥🔥
It’s called Sampling. And listen to Michael McDonald “I keep forgettin” and you’ll see where Nate Dog and Warren G got the regulators beat.
Today it's called sampling. Not that I'm a fan of van. Madonna tapped that.
Yeah, he sampled it from Queen, they sued him, got their money, but this is still a Iconic Jam by him. Give him his due it's been over 30 something years ago, stop crucifying him already!✌️
The thief lied... said he wrote the riff
@@jackdelaney3285 Get over it. You must really hold grudges a Long time, oh but you never did anything bad in your life. Move on from it, he did. The thief as you say, got caught and paid Queen.
This song was on repeat about 24 years ago.... STOP! Calibrate and LISTEN... EPIC!
I met him once and he was embarrassed he made this song. I guess, lateron people were making fun of him on TV, and I told him he should be proud of it. Lots of people liked it, and created fun memories hearing this song..I think I got thru to him a bit. He was also traumatized by some big rapper that threatened him.
It was Suge Knight who threatened him.
@Shalaka Booyaka suge can rot, where he is now.
Vanilla Ice was held by one leg off the side of a building by Suge Knight bc Suge called he sold this sample bet from him evenknow this is originally sample off Queen - under pressure song.
I think it was more of being embarrassed about the video how it was and how the label made him look
Radio stations overplayed it. Where I lived one night the DJ played the top 9 at 9....and it was Ice Ice Baby 9 times in a row.
My high school had a jukebox and anytime this came on, someone ran behind it and unplugged it. LOL
You know he Stole this bass line from Queen "Under Pressure "😂
Yes ! He was sued and lost, he is a thief
@In A Corner Thank you.
It was first done by David Bowie in 1981
Yes, this was in the 90's, and he was only 16 yrs old. An amazing talent!
Now you have to listen to Queen & David Bowie "Under Pressure". That's where Vanilla Ice git that fabulous beat from. 🎼🎶
He had a bunch of hits, check out his album sales. He wrote this song when he was 16. Hes also a super good dude. Dose alot for kids. It came out in 1990.
I was 14 when this song came out in 1990.
It was HUGE!!!
Black and white folks loved it!
Sadly Vanilla Ice fell in the group of one hit wonders and when the truth came out about him not being hardcore from the ghetto, that tarnished his image.
He was basically one of the first entertainers showing white people can dance, lol.
Now I think he does remodeling homes for reality tv.
Can't blame him in his youth...... Who else honestly wouldn't have ridden that wave?
He is so talented 💞He is a legend 💪❣️
Vanilla Ice got sued for this, ... stealing the bass line from Queen's / Bowies "Under Pressure".
Which is exactly what every rapper ever has done by sampling other people's stuff. Ignorant how people try to say he was the only one that did this
There's absolutely no difference in him sampling Queen song Is every single rapper's in history sampling stuff that wasn't there's either.
@@onetruthmediacompanyMost rappers get permission to use someone else's copyrighted material but the stupid ones just steal it and usually and rightfully get sued for it like VanWinkie did.
@@Reno_Slim no they don't
Did not get sued fake news get your fact in order sir. They changed up the beat to where it’s was not an issue. And just to let you know vanilla ice is the top selling rap artist ever till this day.

Queen and Bowie settled with VI. VI bought the rights to ‘Under Pressure’ and to this day still has to give all music credits to Queen and Bowie.
I sincerely believe this story driven jam inspired Warren G and Nate to put together "Regulate".... I remember when Ice Ice Baby was played on KIIS FM in LA every hour during the late 80's. It blew up so big that kids at my elementary school would hate on it all day and then secretly bump it on repeat in our rooms at night. I remember I heard one of my friends hate on it and made a comment that he would throw away his cassette tape, I offered to take it off his hands and he instantly refused... Lord this brings back so many good memories. This was around the time of the Batman movies with Keaton. Epic years.... Check out Ice, or his real name Rob on the Vanilla Ice Project, it is by far the most fun I have seen on a house flipping show. And yeah, I still have this track on my playlist and listen to it regularly.
