A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ UA-cam. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of UA-cam I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on UA-cam won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This UA-cam channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

You have just witnessed a devastated Elvis singing out his soul to honor his assassinated friends, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Senator Bobby Kennedy who was also a fierce fighter for human rights and equality. Watch the video "Elvis Presley and the Black Community" and that will give you an good idea of how Elvis fought his heart out for the innocent downtrodden.. He grew up dirt poor and hung out with African Americans who loved him as much as he loved them. He was a force for good, and it hurts to see him called a racist. He was a courageous fighter all of this life. I love that man.
Read the comment as to where his heart was.
This. Colonel Tom Parker, his legendary greasy bastard of a manager, wanted him to close with a cheesy Christmas number. Elvis, for perhaps the only time in his career, put his foot down and insisted on this one. He was devastated by the state of the world around him, and gave us the Christmas gift of this enduring anthem to brotherhood.
You would have seen more soul out of Elvis but for his dysfunctional relationship with his manager. If I had a time machine and I could change one thing in rock history, I would go back to December of 1968, and just as Elvis said goodnight after this song, I would have put a shotgun up to Colonel Tom Parker's neck and blown his head clean off. The 70s would have sounded a lot different. We might even still have the king with us to this day.
@@joeday4293 so much for peace, understanding and brotherhood.
@@williamquinlan2193 I think, perhaps, that he was just expressing an emotional reaction, just as someone who is actually against capital punishment might feel that a vicious rapist deserves to be "strung up by his... ".

He took us to church. Incredible voice and soul
I like this comment❤
He wasn't supposed to sing this on the show... but he did it anyway. Devastated by the assassination of Martin Luther King & Kennedy, he was determined to express his feelings. And he did... Elvis was the Man, the King !!!
He used to say he was not a king, but Jesus Christ is the true king
That was something that I learned only in the past year. I think it is so awesome that he did it anyway.
Sammy Davis Jr. was supposed to, but backed out. THought it was too much for the times. And Elvis was bold enough to sing it. He knew.
The man with the golden voice and a big Heart ❤️.
I think it is so great people are discovering Elvis again. No lip-synching, no computerized voices. Pure Talent.

Pure talent and insight that still applies sadly today :(
Pure talent that comes from the heart!!

This was a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., after he was killed.
EVERYTIME I hear Elvis sing this song I get the goosebumps and I’ve heard it literally hundreds of times.
Same here. This is one of the greatest moments in the music history because he is totally into it as he delivers this powerful performance that reaches beyond the hardcore Elvis community. This kind of singing and precense is the reason for me becoming an Elvis fan. I just can’t stop watching and hearing this performance. It has such relevans and impact even in 2022.
I find this song totally relatable because of what's going on in the world.
@@elephantintheroom5678 It makes me cry Every time ❤️🔥
I get the its so boring bumps and switch it away
@@smiss5769 Well, no one can make you feel something you don't. However, the musical arrangement on this is such that when it changes tempo/octaves, your body should have an actual physical reaction, like goosebumps. Kinda like the big note in Celine Dion's version of All By Myself. There's a breakdown of it where they explain the science behind the notes. So chances are, if you don't feel anything with this song then you probably don't have much feeling for anything or anyone these days; and I'm really sorry for you 😔

I love that Elvis delivers probably the most amazing live performance of all time and ends it with a humble "Thank you, good night"
Anderl, I read that he did that intentionally. He didn't want to take away from the song and it's impact.
Exactly! I love that part so much...
Only thing that beats this is his 'American Trilogy'! live from Hawaii....
Amazing...timeless. Also, the crew witnessed , I believe, 17 takes. In the leather suit, in the round.. Etc. One after the other. They said the best version he did lying down on his back. The released cut is the one he gets the lyric right " while i can think, while i can talk, --- stand,----- walk,.... They have it all in " the making of the 68' comeback special. Its a really cool behind the scene look at what went into producing this acclaimed show. Warning though. It shows everything. E turning to the camera giving a close up snarl. Over and over again. Etc..every take. Gets a bit monotonous. They mustve had the E fanatics in mind releasing that material. Still its really cool.
Best sign off ever
Elvis didn't just knock you down with his voice, he pinned you up against the wall behind you. He went so far beyond what most singers did in so many of his songs that he raised the bar for everyone around him.

Elvis's manager did not want him to sing this song but he went out and sang it anyway. What a wonderful, warm hearted performance. Elvis was and still is the king.
When you know its Elvis singing out his pain over the assassinations of MLK and RFK (both were friends of his) which occurred one after the other earlier that year, it tales on an even deeper meaning. Elvis at his best.
I totally agree Blair. I think this performance was the best of his entire career.
This is the best. You can see it took his breathe away to sing it.
@@jayroman1978 Yes he got very emotional singing this song as he did this special very soon after MLK was assassinated. Also because direct quotes and pieces of the MLK I have a dream speech were incorporated into the song. Years later the background singers say that they were crying because it was an emotional time for everyone and for the country.
Elvis and the Kennedy’s are cousins.
Elvis never met MLK why lie to make a point ?
He did this song as a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King he truly believed Dr. King was a great great man.
And Robert Kennedy, for what I remember, Bobby Kennedy passed away (assassination) few hours before Elvis performance, Elvis was numb and expressed his double pain that evening 😘✌️
The Red Scarf that he wore around his neck for that song was meant for the Vietnam soldiers that lost her blood

It's shameful that it's still relevant today. I fear we may never make the dream a reality.
It certainly is a great message. But it will be relevant 200 years from now because there will always be hatred, animosity, bigotry, etc. in varying degrees. That doesn't mean we humans shouldn't continually strive to minimize the grief and strife between us......this is the REAL dream and it is attainable every single hour of every single day.

What gets me about this performance everytime I watch it, is after that stunning, passionate, powerful singing, his humble 'Thank you. Good night'. He knew how important the lyrics were after MLK's assassination send he didn't want to distract from it. This proves how great a MAN he was.
While I can dream...I hope we can get there. Great lyrics. Great Song.

When Elvis was going to do this special in 69', he was told to end the show with another song, but, due to the murder of MLK, he stood his ground and did this song. Elvis knew what it was like to be poor as a child and young teen, he knew the heartache of his fellow man, so it was so fitting he did this song for ALL of mankind. Every time I hear this song, I get goose pimples and cry. Such a wonderful line of lyrics to ponder.

The Special was Sumner 1968, not 1969
Lucille Cumming: I first saw this performance when it originally aired on TV in 1968 and I cried uncontrollably. So much had happened that year. MLK, Bobby Kennedy, Vietnam, on and on. In retrospect, I don't know how any of us made it through that year with any sanity intact. This performance is still appreciated today by people of all ethnicities. The writer of If I Can Dream was Walter Earl Brown who said the song was based on Martin Luther King Jr's "I Had A Dream" speech. Thank God Elvis stood his ground against the Colonel and sang this song. Brown also said that Elvis told him, "I'm never going to sing a song I don't believe in". "I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in." It really hurts when people accuse Elvis of being racist. He was anything but! I miss him so much. I was so happy when Trump awarded Elvis the Presidential Medal of Freedom award. I say that he should have received this award while he was alive but at least someone finally acknowledged him in this way. He deserved it for so long and it's shameful that Lisa Marie didn't accept the award on behalf of her father in person. Elvis' cousin Billy Smith said he was not asked to be the recipient but if he had been, he certainly would have accepted. Elvis was an amazing artist and humanitarian and he is so deeply missed. It was wonderful seeing the reaction while he was singing this song. Welcome to the totality of who Elvis Presley was! God bless
I knew that he sang this song for a reason, so thanks for that piece of history.
The comeback special aired on Dec 3, 1968. The Colonel, Elvis‘s manager wanted him to Close the TV event with a Christmas song. The Colonel did not want Elvis to sing songs that had political overtones. Elvis insisted that he sing the dream song.

This is the finale of his 1968 television special (Singer Presents “Elvis”) that was filmed in June 1968. In April of that year Elvis was strongly affected by the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in his home town of Memphis. Then in June while filming the special, Elvis and the producers were having a meeting in an office and in that room was a small television. On that TV Robert Kennedy was assassinated. Elvis became adamant that he wanted to close the television special with a message. The song “If I can Dream” was written and my understanding is that it was inspired by Dr. King’s “ I have a Dream” speech. This song remains one of Elvis Presley’s most powerful performances.
Memphis was Elvis's adopted home his birthplace was Tupelo Mississippi
@@leonbridges1802 That is correct, I was trying to condense the story as much as possible, but thank you for the added detail. 👍
@@leonbridges1802 yeah people from Tupelo are cool peeps
I'm sitting here as a family member in awe seeing how many comments you have here as I read through many of them and I have to say everyone here all had amazing things to say about him when we lost him it was like the world itself just suddenly stopped turning I was only 12 years old at the time I literally hit the ground crying I remember crying out to God why why I'm so sorry I'm crying as I'm writing this it feels like it was just yesterday and now we lost Benjamin Elvis's grandson he committed suicide a couple years ago oh my God it hurts so bad I'm sorry I can't write no more
Being an Elvis fan all my life, it makes me proud people still are getting to know him and being touched by his songs
YES!!!!!!
"Thank you, good night" The way he said it was the original mic drop.
👏
This was filmed on 3 June 1968. 2 months after the MLK assassination and just 3 days before RFKs death. It didn’t air till December 68. MLK was fresh on his mind when he did this. What a great tribute.
You just felt the power of his voice. I saw him live in concert baton Rouge Louisiana in 1974 all I can say is you had to be there. I'm 55 years old now and still listen to him .
I saw him 3 times, the first time he was just starting out as an opening act! I don’t anyone in that time really realized his ComPlete GREATNESS - most of us that he was the most handsome of the handsome, the best of all the best singers and he was ALL our favorite singers.
Wow...I also saw Elvis in Baton Rouge, La. In 1974..I was 16. The best concert I've ever been to. The most beautiful man I've ever seen. I was four feet away from him for just a few seconds.
That’s why he is the King of rock and Roll. Forever. ❤
My all time favourite song.. and my ringtone😅
Elvis was truly devastated by the death of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. He had tremendous admiration for him, such a big heart this man had.
This man was perfect in every way and so handsome
One of the absolute most soulful singers of all time...you just have to listen.
Long Live THE KING
It does my heart good to see you young guys commentating on this. It is the greatest live performance ever committed to recording. He sang this in the very early hours of the morning , there was no audience. You can tell he is totally immersed in the song, nothing else was relevant. No one before or since can come close. No one before or since sang as well as they looked. Simply devastating.
Judy Garland's Glory, Glory, Hallelujah following the JFK assassination was remarkable as well. I'm honestly torn between the two for which one gives me more chills or is better.
" More handsome than ten movie stars!"
I got to have seen Elvis twice 75,77 the best of all time, and always will be!
I saw him, men and women ... all of us stood for the full concert and screamed. I got to go to the edge of the stage, why they let me that was a miracle for me. He came in my direction, stood in front of me and looked at me. I thought I was gonna faint. my friend who wasn't a fan(yeah I know) she stood there throughout his performance and screamed. What got me is his voice, his presence, his class. He was do beautiful.
@@jaycuzman625 I have been to two of his concerts 75 & 77 amazing simply the very best!!
This is the first time since my Dad died two months ago that I could listen to Elvis without crying.
I don't know how you stopped the tears, I'm a masochist, I listen to this every chance I get and cry every time!!!
@@sheripetrey1882 So sorry for your loss. Did your dad like Elvis? What an emotional song to start back with! You have probably heard many times that things will get better! Well, it's true! It won't happen fast. My dad died when I was 15 (71 now).
Elvis's and Alan Jackson's music have helped me through a lot!
My dad died three weeks ago and I can’t stop listening to Elvis. The King.
@@braunbakes So sorry for your loss. Elvis is pretty good medicine for the hurt.
@@sheripetrey1882 sorry for your loss, Bless you
This is the KING at his finest!
This song never fails to get a visceral reaction out of me. Within the first 10 seconds sometimes I start crying.
Elvis said he was never a King of anything, that the Good Lord above was the true King. He was such a humble man
Amen
He loved the Lord. Heard when he sang gospels he fim
When it came to music Elvis called Fats Domino the King !
There is only ONE KING(Elvis knows that also)...Elvis was the kang tho :)
Praise the Lord!
That's exactly the right reaction brother.
Exactly my thoughts as well
Maybe the most powerful live performance I've ever heard from a singer
I've seen this 100 times and I still get chills
This song was his reaction to racism. It was a memorial to the passing of Dr. King.
yep this was right after MLK was assassinated and it hit Elvis hard. So he recorded this in his honor.
@Samuel Young go sit down somewhere. You can spin your bullshit conspiracy theories on anybody else you want to but you need to leave Dr. King the hell out of it. Have some respect for the dead.
It was also to honor Robert F Kennedy who was assassinated 2 months after MLK. Elvis did this special on TV 5 months later.
@@terwya I know. I watched it live.
this special was filmed in June 1968. It aired on TV in December 1968.
If someone is listening to a song with their mouth open you know what kind of impact Elvis has on that person.
That means that you too are part of Elvis fans... like us.
And this is why Elvis was, is, and ALWAYS will be the King❤️❤️❤️
People need to hear this now……badly……🙏🏻
