This could have been written this morning!! Their orchestration was the first of the kind for the time. Always amazing. Their “Goodbye, Stranger” was featured onSupernatural sparking a new generation of listeners.
Good hair was due to all natural food and clean water!!! The lyrics are so now. We only had ringing phones back then: same ring any phone all stuck to the wall. It was unique for the time. They were huge!
Boomer here. So happy to see someone reacting to Supertramp. You don't hear their name mentioned enough. I can tell you that their sound stood out - no other band sounds like them. And they had a message / sentiment that others were not sharing. At least that's how I felt. I really appreciate your reactions
Can’t wait to dig into more tunes from them! Have a great one! 😁

The digital sample you heard when Roger sings "d-d-d-d-digital" was added on the fly in the recording studio, where the guys from the band played with a hand-held electronic soccer game from Mattel. They preserved that sound for the live gigs.
Supertramp is a great English rock band formed in 1969. They had so many hit songs in the 70's-80's such as "Dreamer", "Give A Little Bit", "Goodbye Stranger", "Breakfast In America", "Rudy", "Take The Long Way Home", "School", "It's Raining Again", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind Of Lady", "Cannonball", "I'm Beggin' You", "You Win, I Lose" etc.
There are three keyboards and a grand piano on that stage. Roger Hodgson (Lead singer) plays the guitar. Check out "Goodbye Stranger" Roger does a cool electrical guitar solo at the end of the song. The "Digital" sound was NOT a cellphone. We didn't have them back then. It sounds like an old fashioned alarm clock (The kind that you had to wind up to set). There was NO other band like Supertramp. And apparently they were too progressive to get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Check out "Child of Vision" live too.
Glad you enjoyed this gem of a song. I have to say I prefer the recorded version given the precise orchestration of the song. I suggest you check it out. Supertramp was a uniquely imaginative rock band. Their standard of originality and playful exploration was always met and surpassed! Truly superb!
This band has 2 lead singers, the other one being the guy on keyboards who was behind the main singer singing harmony. That is Rick Davies. This singer is Roger Hodgeson who also plays guitar, just not on this song.
Supertramp was very unique, prog rock basically. Great meanings to their song. A lot of their big hits were everywhere on the radio waves. Oh, you're about to go down the Supertramp rabbit hole. Never songs that sound the same, all different.
I was this boy when this came out. I had hundreds of miles of this on my car CASSETTE. NAS-T tenor sax. "Breakfast in America". ALL of it. Sadly, today our "education system" turns our young into vegetables.🥵
Love Supertramp. Thanks for your thoughtful reaction. Other great Supertramp suggestions have been made so hope to see more. Mentioning their hair made me smile. Yours looks good on you Imo, but maybe we all would like different things regarding appearance. Wishing I was taller than 5'1" is one of mine 😀
There's a great live performance of Take the Long Way Home. Since you clearly missed seeing a guitar player in this one, you can't do better than the outro on my absolute favorite Supertramp song, Goodbye Stranger! The lyrics for both of these, as well as The Logical Song, are a big part of their lasting interest for me.
@@setonhillstudios I forgot to mention that, in my opinion, it's best to hear the studio version of Goodbye Stranger first. There are definitely excellent live performances, but they just don't hit as hard for me as the recording does.
dude im 60 , and that was my era , in the 80's , i had long hair , i even had a mo hawk in the late 80's when i joined the punk rocker scene , but today ? i grow better hair on my face than my head . , so dont feel bad . its what us humans do , relish the good years .and try n forget the bad . lol . live while living is good . and drain it for all its worth . cos it dont last long . im still young at heart . ummmm . no im not , i got heart disease and am dying fast . lol . but im you in my mind . and thats all that counts ...
Great musicians. They have a unique sound but play a lot of varied music, instruments and worth returning to. They are right up there with Genesis and Steely Dan. BTW some say Phil Collins doesn't have great hair. No denying his music.
Haha 🤣 Fair point! Definitely going to check out more from them for sure. I can tell they are very high level artists just listening to this one. Have a great one and thanks for swinging by!
@@roberteatwell6827 Appreciate the insight but that’s not necessarily how we do it. There are alot of reactors that do it that way but just not our approach. 🤷🏻♂️ Like I said, we aren’t for everyone
That's part of a good reaction, especially when it's from someone who actually understands something about music, and that's why I'm coming back for more. If I didn't want a commentary, then I'd just listen to the original recording, which I also do.

Gotcha! That’s nice to have 2 guys that can sing lead! Gives you so much versatility. Thanks for sharing!
Roger Hodson wrote this song about his experience being sent away to boarding school for 10 long years.
Ah ok! I had no clue!

Supertramp Musicians could play ANYTHING basically
Gotta check out the album cut song School from the iconic album Crime of the Century a top five best produced album ever.
Appreciate it! I’ll definitely check it out! Always love digging into the production side of things too!
That was actually before digital phones.
yep 74 only had analog . 80's was digital . lol
Listen to their album Crime of the century arguably one of the best albums of the 1970;s
Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation!
No, Supertramp had their own sound, they were unique.
No doubt! Can’t wait to hear more from them!
Try Fool's Overture. It is off the charts amazing!

That’s ok! I’m only 5ft1 as well! I’m shrinking! I used to be 5ft2 and a half! Just getting old! lol!
I remember listening to this song growing up - my brother had it on special edition coloured vinyl.😊

Excellent reaction to the music....Pity you missed the lyrical meaning of the song.
Like the sound of your own voice much?
So clever! 🤣 Watching a reaction video and then get upset when they react 😆 No worries! We ain’t for everyone! Have a great one! ✌🏻
Watch the video and react at the end. don't pause every 30 seconds. It disrupts the flow and distracts the viewers.@@setonhillstudios
