***** Actually more accurately the other game is a sprite swap of this. As it was always originally intended to be a mario game. It was changed when another company lent the use of their IP to nintendo and head office changed it to tie in with that while they could.
***** The liscence however was only valid in japan, so the original art was reintegrated and the game returned to its original state upon american release.
Delicious Things So, they removed B button running in Doki Doki but returned it for release to the states?
Also, why is it called "Super Mario Bros USA" in Japan? I think you may have misheard something somewhere.
Wow, I just realized I have never seen the end of this game. My childhood is now complete!
Repurposing the key as a weapon xD
1:42 Going Kingdom Hearts on Birdo!
Pacman from smash 4 XD
Also, Birdo died after being hit twice with the key, unlike three times with any other block.
I just tried this, took three hits with the key.
I think he exploited some sort of glitch where Birdo gets hit twice with the same cast.
Oh boy, do I remember the terror that was World 7... How I beat this when I was a kid is completely beyond me.
What! There's a freaking spaceship in the game!
i used to be able to do this in like maybe 25 mins as a kid, some of your choices are eye opening :)
your eyes are supposed to be opened to watch the video
whosVariations so my eyese are closed? is that a dig? an observation? commentary? satire? its like an awesome mind puzzle...
+Bacon Creepy the sleeper must awaken
Emerald dream
Bacon Creepy Do you do it buddy
Love watching speed runs, always makes me laugh to think how many hours I sunk into these games to see some joker finish them in minutes lol
Great run👍
I'm sure these jokers poured hours into them as well, at some point
This "joker" has dedicated hours upon hours and even years to perfect this stuff. He didn't wake up bored one day and decide to speed run. He prepared himself with years gameplay and master planning 1st.
Enjoy how these guys beat these classics in a handful of minutes. They have already spent many lifetimes perfecting it, after all!
I love this game and Zelda 2.
So different.
7:23 Birdo came back.
Yea sometimes birdo was just used as an enemy and not a boss enemy
He was actually talking about the glitch with Birdo reappearing right after he died.
I noticed that also lol
I think they call it Ghost Birdo
After speedrunning this game myself, all I can say is wow.
This was my favorite game as a kid and I beat it a couple times. I recently found it, along with my NES and I can't get passed level 7-2. My 8 year old self is so disappointed lol
This was great!! By far my favorite game ever on NES. I'm 40 yrs old and I remember playing this in 88 w my old boyfriend. We played for hours! The only Mario game that Mario was useless in. Thanks for sharing. Great play
*cough cough* Yoshi's Island ;)
Gahanna Ohio Not when he grabs a star
So you were 13, ok.
Gahanna Ohio You must really like it for it to be your favourite NES game, seeing as it was a SNES game...
NIneDJcali Was that comment for me? if so, what is the problem? It's not like we had sex or did much of anything except go the movies and stuff. Jeez...
When I was a kid this was the one game I was better at than all of my friends. I got to where I could beat it in 22 minutes. I'm still proud of that. But after seeing this, I'm slightly less proud. Amazing job.
Luigi is my least favorite character
This represents about a tenth of my entire childhood :D
Gotta love Warp Rooms. Classic game though. Very underrated.
Anthony Palumbo underrated? ..its Mario 2...
This has to be the most confusing Mario game ever.
Nintendo power never showed me this shit when I was a kid.
Nintendo Power was part of the Illuminati.
I knew all the secrets, I figured them out by my self.
FINALLY someone who knows you can superjump with the key as Luigi to get up on the hill. I thought I was the only one.
Demais esse jogo
Right button on the d-pad must be chalk by now.
It just really impressed me how good you know this game...
Shouldn't he have died at 0:48 when the bomb flash hits him, since he was already small?
With the exception of mario64, still my favorite. Distinct among the franchise as an "off model" game with unusual enemies, (and ways to kill them), no bowser, and the only mario game (outside of mario rpg and the party/kart games) that gives you a choice of four characters.
Plus, what a great "game win" payoff vs. SMB's profound 8-bit let-down of an "Oh, hey man, thanks. Yeah, all those castles and this is what you get. What? You want more? Well here, have seconds.. with beetles."
You can play as 4 or more characters in New Super Mario bros. Wii and New Super Mario bros. U deluxe. And Super Mario 3D World.
I beat this game once in 36 years
It's weird because i remember all these tricks and secret areas and how to get to them but i have no idea how i discovered it all because we didn't have the internet to look stuff up back then.
This was the only Super Mario Bros. game I beat as a kid, except for Super Mario World. Those were also my two favorites!
I'd love to see Wart come back in some capacity.
Also, I played like this person; Toad and Luigi only!
Same, well i beat the others, but my 2 faves
Just hearing these musics brings me memories..
*Of constant frustration!*
This is my fav Mario bros followed by 3 then 1
Same here. I loved this game as a kid.
That's an absolute work of art...very nicely done, guys!
literally ran through this game. never seen such good gameplay
DeadlyVenomKing he hits every single jump, it's ridiculous. he makes this game look really easy which is comical
A favorite
I always thought this game was really cool. Lk one of my retro faves of all time
Press 1 to pay respects to Mario and peach
lol he didn't use them like they were dead XD he told a funny...
+garrett D they were probably worse for its speedrun

No glitch runs are more legit in my book.
Just because his name is on a game doesn't mean that he can be the star of the game
Hey mom I can play SMB2?
Mom: We leave in 9 minutes so hurry
Me:
My version favorite is for gba
Luigi: "I AM THE SHORTCUT!"
the timing this guy has is incredible.
Luigi in super mario bros 2
You just ruined my childhood. I never made it past 7-1.
Just finish it now dummy. ;) Childhood left intact.
Looks like this was recorded with a VCR, which means it was on the actual hardware. That's impressive.
*World Record* Publicly maybe. Some can maybe do it faster but he/she has not told anyone
3,3 mln vieuws amazing
7:07 almost fucks up the speed run but makes an excellent recovery.
This is how the SMBs went.
1. Was just a great game, made lots of money.
2. Took too many drugs, made this acid trip, decided not to take as many drugs.
3. Another great game.
2. was always my favorite though.
Wilbur Jenkins the second one wasn't made by Nintendo but bought by them and made into a Mario game.
Doki Doki Panic was made by the same team that made SMB1 and SMB2J. They just added Mario characters and branded it as SMB2 here because they felt American's wouldn't like SMB2J because of the difficulty and because it looked too much like SMB1.
Xx5thHorsemanxX Wrong again
i played this when it came out. brings back memories. 1st time iver ever seen it completed. wow!
5:47 :O
I KNOW! Such a cool trick that I never knew.
Freaking amazing. It reminds me of shell juggling in the Kaizo hacks
I didn't even know you could do that. I usually just go under with the quicksand, making sure that I keep jumping to keep from sinking.
Wish I woulda known. I loved this game man.
S’amazin
SPEED LUIGI
feat. Toad
I wanted to see a speed run without the level skipping
Here's the record for that: www.speedrun.com/smb2#All_Levels
7:23 "I'm not dead"
Every body know the princess was the shit.
i finally finished the game after 1 year
its funny that the game seems almost conceived so you can zip through levels if youre good enough
All the early mario games were like that.
Luigi is best character confirmed
only because he can jump the highest. on some levels i cant jump to higher grounds
doodle
luigi best brother confirmed
Luigi best Mario character confirmed
the princess was the best on the game in my opinion
gugg Luigi is overrated
Awesome player
SUPAH MARIO BROTHERS 2 BABY THIS GAME HAS WON GAME OF THE YEAR FOR 20 YEARS RUNNING
