Great education video from a authentic type 1 . Diabetic endocrinologist Main points 1. High carb meals difficult to figure out how your body will react 2. We can Forget to bolus insulin 20 minutes before meal, and blood sugars go to low 3. Inaccurate label meals 10% carbohydrate error, inaccuracies in insulin, and these inaccuracies will continue to compound leading to larger errors
This video was full of very useful information if you have Type 1. Loaded with concise information and tips that cover many areas of blood sugar control. Thank you for your continued efforts creating these diabetic videos!
I think continuing education would be really helpful. I was 16 when I was diagnosed, and got a lot out of my crash course, but forgot a lot of things over the last 26 years. The biggest thing was dealing with ketones because I had them so seldom. Then one day I had two bent cannulas in a row and my glucose spiked and wouldn’t come down. Didn’t realize that if I had high ketones and was vomiting and couldn’t keep anything down that I needed to go to the hospital. (I’d never been hospitalized, even at my diagnosis.) Had DKA and spent two days in intensive care. I will not be making that mistake again!
Dr. Ergin, I watched a few of your videos and have subscribed. You seem to know what you are talking about better than most of the endocrinologists I have had as a 45 year type 1. I have to disagree with you on Dexcom's customer support. If I need to inform them of a failed sensor or other issue, I rarely wait more than a minute or two for tech support to answer. I have a Dexcom G6 CGM and a Medtronic insulin pump. Medtronic also has good tech support. The two devices don't work together now as others you suggest but Dexcom tech support told me recently the upcoming G7 WILL work with Medtronic insulin pumps. You may want to check into that when the G7 comes out. I believe the Dexcom CGM and the Medtronic pump are the top devices out right now. Thank you for another great video!
Doctor, I just discovered your excellent channel. I'm a type 1 (Lada). Diagnosed 3 yrs ago. I am eating LCHF (keto-ish). Meat is expensive, so I have it rarely. I never touch milk (almond milk instead). I do eat other full fat dairy: yoghurt, and cheese (non organic), kefir, eggs, butter (organic). Never really got any useful info or advice from my endo. Just figured it out by myself and it seems to be working. Have been wondering: should I cut out the dairy bcse of the lactose? Some sites on the net imply it's bad for Type 1 Diabetics. I'm a bit at a loss here.. Could you please give me your opinion?
Just found your amazing channel! Long time diabetic, but learning a lot from you so far :) Will you be doing a video on MODY and the number of variants at some point? There's very little info for us MODY's out there. Thanks!
I have type 2 diabetes. I am kind of low carb diet. Not really low carb . I have one problem of constipation. It is getting worse and worse day by day . Any suggestions to get rid of contipation . Before diabetes I used to take cereal and it was very helpful for constipation but it increases sugar a lot . Thanks, shahid from Calgary
Try different vegetables or reduce the vegetables to very little. You don't need fibre. There was a double blind randomised control trial for chronic constipation about 84 people. Once all fiber was removed from their diet the constipation resolved itself
Hello :) i have T1 diabetes i diagnosed this year...I wake up in the morning with blood sugar 95 and other days 90 or 105 all day im fine in range no spikes,i use insulin Tresiba 16units and fast insulin before meals Lyumjev. But every afternoon after 17.00 my blood sugar starts rising i do insulin but it starts working after an hour, anyone else have this or its just me 😅😋
I've got Lada Type 1 Diabetes it has changed my life I do find it hard at times as its a 24/7 disease you never get a day off 😫I been hearing alot about eating plant base foods low in fat. I have tried low carb diet but makes me tired as I am finding I have to take more insulin now than when I was first diagnosed 3 years ago is this normal? as I been on a low carb diet but high in fat but its harer for my insulin levels to go down so I am thinking of going vegan. I am on Novarapid and Levimer for night time, should I change my insulin? what do you suggest I would appreciate any advice. Thank you
My mother had a toe amputation, after that she was given humilin r u/100 14-8-4 units and abasaglar 14 unts at night. then everything was ok till debridement.after debridement shes having high blood sugar.blood sugar is 10 afer meal at night, and 18 before breakfast.shes 50 years. Can you pls tell me whats the prob?
@Ali, do you measure you blood sugar when you feel like this? It does sound like it. You may be taking too much medication than you need. WhenI feel that way I eat two hard boiled eggs or some cheese that you llike tp eat. The shaking and sweating can be serious. Please see your doctor.
Thank you for your question! When it comes to oatmeal, choosing a variety with a low glycemic index is key, especially for managing diabetes. Steel-cut oats or rolled oats are great options because they are less processed and release glucose more slowly than instant oats. Adding a protein or healthy fat like nuts or seeds can also help reduce the glycemic impact.
I am having issues with my endocrinologist, she does not believe in normal glucose range for T1D. She set my range to something harmful 100 to 180 mg/dl. I said well funny how endothelial detioration happens at 140 mg/dl, and mesangial kidney cells get damaged at 165 mg/dl. She claims only BG above 180 mg/dl causes complications, but modern research says otherwise. She is also not happy with my diet of less than 20g of carb a day, and a normal HbA1c of 4.7%. Are there any endocrinologists that number one believe in normal blood glucose levels and low carbohydrate diet? My office glucose check was 81 mg/dl fasting and she said its dangerous to be below 100 as a T1D.. I asked her about the normal range and that 81 was well within there, I feel its a safe number.
@@SugarMDs I agree, perhaps time for a change, an HbA1c of 4.7% for a T1D is almost unbelievable as far as blood work is concerned those are non diabetic BG levels around the clock. Even my eGFR rose 12 points, as the research in diabetic rats showed, normal BG levels restores kidney and vascular abnormalities, my guess will do too in humans. She seem my CGM reports very few lows too, mostly in the 70s 80s and 90s all day and night. Definitely effective care lies on a person, their diet and medication. Doctors prescribe the medicine sure, but all the responsibility should be on the patient. I don't understand why the ADA and most doctors push their diabetic patients to be so high and cause complications on themselves, very disappointing!

Telling someone with a chronic illness that it could always be worse is rarely helpful, even if it’s true. Just saying.
