    Don't cover the rear hub. When riding there will a turbulence that moves through the hole that causes to cool the hub and the oil inside.

      Hi Oguz, hello and welcome to the channel. Yes you are correct.
      When I tested the Red Rear hub protector for the accessories video, about a week later I noticed the rear hub was very warm... so I removed it and went back out for another 30 minute ride. And the hub was then much cooler.
      I have removed the protector and will not be fitting another one.
      Thankyou for sharing this.

    My 15 GSA is up for sale, I bought a new 23 triple black. Your suspension video's are a big help (dealer didn't explain much) Thanks. I didn't put any bling on the 15 this video inspired me, bought some carbon fiber wrap & wrapped the 3 side covers, front fender & wind defectors. Had no idea what I was doing but it came out surprisingly good. I also have a tank protector on it's way from Italy.

    Hi Carl. I have just purchased a set of Ricochet crash bar engine guards. I see you have the Wunderlich cylinder head protectors on your bike. Would you run both products or would that be overkill?

    • @justthewayitis

      Hi Mark, good afternoon. I use both so that if I drop the GS in soft gravel or rocky terrain there is no chance of scratching or damaging the cylinder covers.
      I think both are a good idea if you have enough clearance.

    Hey Carl, i've been looking into getting some accessories for my 2023 1250 GS (a top case specifically). I purchased the Top Case / Top Case Rack off of Wunderlich as they said it would surely fit the 2023 1250 GS Model but when I was trying to install it I noticed the mount on the bike that their rack attaches to was way different than the one on my GS. Their instructions have a mount that looks like the one in your video on the back.
    I went to the dealership to ask but they said the one on my bike is the standard top case rack for the 2023 models. I was wondering if you knew of any parts to help get this attached, I really do like the top case but don't know where to get that rack in your video to install it to.
    I tried to attach some links to the parts and my adapter but I think youtube auto flagged it as spam, but would love to reach out if you have just a moment to take a look. I didn't know who else to ask and your vids seem to be amazing for GS parts.
    Sorry for the long question and thanks for the content. You've got a sub out of me for sure!

    A couple of things I fitted were eBay mudsling and front fender extender. Both have been on the bike for the last 17,000kms and they function fine. I did need to trim the mudsling slightly to stop the rear tyre rubbing. The "official" parts are outrageously priced for a couple of bits of plastic. Something else worth fitting is the Cymarc windscreen brace. It works.

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  2 роки тому

      Hi Geoff, thank you, yes I have also heard good things about the Cymarc screen support so when I get my screen sorted and the wind noise gone or reduced, perhaps I will fit one.

    I have been riding a R1150GSA for 17 years and bought equipment from Wunderlich and Touratech for app. 1000€
    Since last year I am riding a R1250GS and my son the R1250GSA, we just came back from a week in the Abruzzen
    We equipped our bikes with many many nice and useful parts which you can get from Wunderlich for example.
    80% we ordered with Ali in China, excellent quality, many parts are Original like Wunderlich because they also buy there and sell it here for a fortune.
    We spent all together 30% of German prices and super happy,,
    Never ever again this overpriced extras from the known EU suppliers.
    Regards from Germany
    Very good canal Carl, we like you 😊

      Hello Mr Majiso and welcome to the channel. The bar risers I used did not need extensions on either side. It was close but after measuring carefully I decided not to extend them as there was enough room. I think if you buy anything taller or higher then extension would be advisable. Also this might vary depending on year model you own mine is a 2021/2/3 model

    Hello Karl I absolutely agree with what you say, the prices for accessories, especially from Wunderlich and Touratech, are not only excessive, they are extremely outrageous. People who buy things like that have lost control of their lives.
    This also applies to accessories such as case systems or lighting. I am thinking of DENALI, for example. 1 small headlight €430, that's where it ends. In comparison, the prices of original BMW accessories are already discount prices

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  6 місяців тому

      Hi Roman, yes the prices are in some cases excessive and over priced, but people still buy them. With a little research some of those products can be at a much lower price and sometimes it’s just branding that adds to the cost.
      But it’s worth highlighting that occasionally you do get a better more reliable product that has been well designed and tested, and they are worth paying a little extra for.
      Thank you for sharing your thoughts kind regards Carl

    Nice informative to the point video, I do like your presenting style.
    If youtube don't like long videos, they should tell Jim White (White Details) he usually makes them around an hour, still not long enough for me but, as you say, there's a lot of work in editing and it really is very much appreciated.
    Also just a quick note to say the custom ear plugs arrived this week and have made the gs more of a pleasure to ride, the tyre noise is still there but is now a different tone. More road oriented tyres will still be fitted at some point though. Comparing them to my 12 year old plugs, I am embarrassed to say that my ears have grown somewhat 😂

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  2 роки тому

      Hi Paul, great to hear back from you. I am pleased to hear (smile) that your new ear plugs have arrived and that your happy with them. I think your 100% right about the tyres also improving things, I was really very tempted to fit new Pirelli tyres last week for my trip... but just could not throw away a new set of tyres, so decided to use the Anakee adventure tyres up during the tour and then fit new sports touring tyres when I get back.
      Thankyou again.

    Hi Carl, I'm planning to get the GS bike soon and was compiling the list of things in terms of the must-have things and necessary upgrades. What a joy is to find your channel. I'm a happy new subscriber. Thank you for your meticulous job and elucidations!
    I have a question. I live in Austria, and after visiting the Motorrad Zentrum in Vienna I was told that any kind of headlight protective covers are illegal - no matter what kind of material, plastic, glass, mesh cover, etc. I see you use one in Germany. Did you check if it is legal in Germany? Otherwise, something's strange in Austria... i have already encountered one issue relating to the 3D overview on my car (when you can watch what's happening around the car remotely over the phone using the front/back and mirrors' cameras ), and that function is jammed/restricted due to the data protection law. That is, BMW takes the money for this function, but the country prohibits it...:(
    So, I'm just puzzled about the headlight protection as this part is quite expensive. Would be nice to hear from the GS bike owners from Germany/Austria. Thanks in advance!

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  Рік тому

      Hi Alexander and thank you for subscribing 👍 it really helps the channel grow. Glad you are enjoying the series and having fun choosing your options for your new bike. Correct the headlight protector is not permitted legally and should only be used off-road. We each have to make are own decisions about that. I might remove it but then again it might stay on !!
      But the headlight is about 1800€ to replace I need to check to see if it’s covered by insurance . If it is I will remove it.
      The GS has been a big positive surprise for me and I really enjoy it… such a capable bike
      Best wishes Carl

    I followed your approach, because I was shocked by the Wunderlich prices. I ordered a lot of stuff on eBay too and that‘s what I found out: The base tool is always nearly made of the same quality and therefore I think Wunderlich orders this stuff in China too. But Wunderlich always improves the assembly manuals and they nearly always changed the nuts and bolts to a higher standard (better material quality and torx instead of inbus). Everyone has to decide for himself, if this is worth sometimes more than 500 % difference in price. The only thing, I‘m asking myself is about regulatory compliance, when it comes to german TÜV or a police inspection on the road. Will they accept the China stuff on my front axle? But this could be the same question with the Wunderlich material. For example, in some countries it is ok to mount a cover of transparent plastic or a plastic grid in front of your expensive headlight to prevent cracks by stones. In Germany that is not allowed.

      Hi Klaus good morning and welcome to the channel. Their are some areas I would not fit cheaper parts like the bar risers for example as they are very important and must a KBA number. But many other areas you can save a lot of money, I agree with what you have shared about wunderlich. Yes the rules and regulations are very strict here in Germany and I have to now remove my headlight guard, best wishes Carl

      @@justthewayitis I was lucky it was me riding, not my wife, and I just pulled into my driveway.
      The handle bars cracked in half… completely separated from the bike. Only the cables kept it hanging on the bike.

    I have many accessories on my GS but would never put Chinese copies on it! why would you do that to 18 grand bike? let alone the fact that they have copied these parts from existing manufacturers who have undergone tests etc. this is not a good practice!

    • @justthewayitis
      @justthewayitis  2 роки тому

      Hi MK, not all Chinese made products are cheaply made, some are manufactured in the SAME building as many of the big name brands. Sometimes the parts you think are copies are manufactured in the facilities but are sold without branding or expensive packaging. But yes... some parts are extremely poor quality. Not everyone can afford high priced accessories, everyone has to make their own choices. Best wishes Carl

    I will never buy anything from SW-Motech. I purchased a shift lever which bent after light use. I sent them photos and asked for a replacement. They told me that a car him my motorcycle and bent it. Really? I think I would have noticed if a car hit my motorcycle hard enough to bend the shift lever and there was no other damage. They said the car had rubber bumpers which didn't leave any marks. Bottom line is their stuff is cheaply made, their support is condescending, and they will not honor their warrantee. $192.95 plus taxes and shipping down the tubes. My BMW dealer has had issues with them and has dropped all of their products.

    your approach to risers is totally counterproductive. You’re killing your flexibility when standing for nothing. It’s the opposite of best practice.

      @@justthewayitis When standing, you only have a limited amount of space to move back and forth, risers reduce that space generally, but the ones you have are so swept back they close it even worse. The less space you have, the more unstable you’ll be when forward leaning, for example getting up an incline.

      Hi Ryan, ah... ok I now understand thankyou. If I am honest I do not go off road much at all, however I do enjoy being able to stand upright on the pegs to stretch out during long tours. I can understand now from what you have highlighted that for more off road oriented owners a bar riser that also come towards the rider reduces the space. Thankyou for sharing this.

    I really like your videos, however… I can’t get behind buying the Chinese garbage. My strategy is to narrow down accessories to the most critical and buy quality. I’d rather have a few really nice/important things than a bunch of questionable doodads from junk manufacturers. I can’t imagine buying a $25,000 motorcycle and dangling junk made by children on it.
    Rant over.

      Hello Arthur and welcome to the channel. Your feedback is welcome, I answered a similar comment further down in the comments section. Yes I agree with you.... but these bikes are very expensive and not everyone can afford them or the high prices for the accessories. Many subscribers have older models so I wanted to do something different and show that accessories can be bought at a lower price and still offer fair quality. But I do understand what you mean. Have fun... best wishes Carl

      When customers do the research (as I have) almost 80% of the other brands have their products manufactured in China, and in many cases it’s exactly the same product but with a different name on it or perhaps a change of colour orca very slight change in style. They are often manufactured in the same physical building.
      Ultimately we all want to support locally manufactured products, I do agree with this.

    • @justthewayitis

      Hi Jorgen, yes you are right we should think about this, and I think many people do what they can to support locally made products and services. But the truth is (with regards to motorbikes and cars) many parts especially electronics are made in china because it is the most cost effective way for manufacturers to offer these devices to us. I dont have an answer... or a solution.
      But your point is valid.
      Thankyou Carl
