I’ve been seeing so many videos on here and tiktok literally shitting on these books as if it’s a moral victory to view them as less than, so thank you for being unapologetic about your love for extreme horror
Of course! I am unapologetic about everything I love
Love these videos!!! Disturbing fiction is what got me back into reading. First it was the disturbing books iceberg on UA-cam and then deep diving into extreme horror and now I’m a legit adrenaline junkie looking for the craziest shit I can read out there lol
I'm so distracted by how perfect your hair looks in this vid omg 🤩
Thank you 🥹
Meg's hair always looks like she just left the salon 😍
@@bluetheonAwh thank you!
Great recs! Definitely NOT for anyone still using their extreme horror training wheels. 😂
Definitely not!
Babe cancel all my plans for today…. Reading with Meg just uploaded 😅🎉😅
😂🩷🩷🩷
I have read a lot of these books thanks to ur recs and loved them. The ones i havent read are on my kindle or i bought. UA-cam is in such a uproar about extreme horror books right now making me feel like a horrible person because i read them. But then meg posts a vlog and after i do my happy dance, i feel validated. thank u for letting me be myself. And for u being u! U really are an incredible person and makes us all thankful u do what u do for us!
I am so oblivious to anything happening around me lol everyone keeps saying the internet is in an uproar and I’m like….where? Maybe because I don’t follow too many people idk 😂
Read what you want and like what you like! There are just a lot of terrible authors who do questionable things so I’m trying to recommend the ones I know deserve recognition.
Thank you 🩷🩷
@@ReadingWithMeg ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love this video & the recs ! Thank you!!!
Thank YOU!
"We're going to end on a lighter note. Cannibalism." This made me laugh so hard. Also, much love for Brett Easton Ellis. American Psycho was so good.
Lolol
Bret Easton Ellis is my hero
Thank you Meg! There’s a few on here I still need to read!
Of course! If you don’t read them immediately I will scream at the top of my lungs
Tampa sounds terrifying 😵💫
So messed up!
Okay for me I think the most disturbing books I’ve read are:
His pain by Wrath James White
I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream
A Short Stay In Hell (I know how you feel about this one but I digress lmao)
Cows by Matthew Stokoe
Along the Path of Torment by Chandler Morrison
All You Can Eat by Shane McKenzie (idk if you’ve read this one but I highly recommend for your next extreme horror vlog!)
Penpal by Dathan Auerbach
And Baby in a Blender by Terry Musalata
Agree with so many of these and the others I will need to look up lol
@@ReadingWithMeg Happy Reading!!😁
I agree that Pen Pal is disturbing. I was already freaked out about being buried alive, but I didn't think it could be worse!
Agreed about American Psycho being a great book- I've read it three times and will definitely be re-reading in future. I'll have to look into a few of these others as well
I need to re-read it!
I'm, currently reading Blood Meridian. It's pretty disturbing. I have to put it down from time to time because it is so horrifying and nihilistic.
Everyone keeps mentioning this book to me!
Thanks for the recs! I finally read Survivor, and it was a lot at times. 👀 lol. Have you read Only the Stains Remain by Ross Jeffery? I don’t typically cry reading books, but I did at the end of that one. 😢 I think because you’re reading through the perspective of the young brothers, it just hits different. It stood out to me above the rest of extreme horror because of the writing, and I appreciated some things weren’t spelled out and just left to the imagination. I’ve read The Groomer and Into the Wolves Den, and for some reason, this one has stuck with me longer.
I have read it and you’re right- that one absolutely gutted me!!!
Yes!!! Awesome list. I read Into the Wolves Den after seeing one of your other videos and OMG! That is what got me into reading extreme horror and Jon Athan. Have you read Lovesick? lol definitely made my cringe a few times
Lovesick is absolutely DISGUSTING lol
Hey Meg! Haven't commented here in a while. Anyway, great video as always. A couple on this list that I actually haven't read yet. Definitely will be adding them to my tbr. Im also still bummed that I missed my chance to read/own No One Rides for Free: Absolute Chaos. 😔
Thank you!
Tbh just be glad you didn’t support Otis Bateman. Plenty of other great people out there to support including Judith! ☺️
@@ReadingWithMeg Judith is one of my favorites of all time, which is why I want to own a copy, but I obviously get it. Everything that happened is so crazy.
Gonna have to check some of these out! Great video! I have not read a single book that has come close to being as disturbing as Blood Meridian (if we are only talking about fiction).
Thank you! I always hear people mentioning that book but I’ve never read it
I bought burner because of the blog you did on it. I look forward to reading that. Jon athan does disturbing incredibly well. The last lesson and trespassers by him are very good.
Loved burner!!
I think you will love Burner! I really need to read more Jon Athan
Maybe my tolerance for poo is really high but I keep waiting for Cows to get more gross. I feel like he could have done more with the details thinking Zola level. Again maybe my tolerance is way high. Love your channel.
My tolerance for poo is not very high hahah thank you!!
Am I messed up that I find American psycho as a confort read as an almost parody? 😅
No because I actually feel the same way lol
Like Jon Athan? The groomer is A MUST!
Love that one also
Yes to no one rides for free..gripping..sick..but couldn t put it down
Do you have any book recommendations that involve sniffy films without babies or young kids? That scene is the reason I don't want to read Survivor.
I completely understand! Honestly not off the top of my head it’s so hard to find them without ANY scenes like that but I also wish there were more. I also forget a lot of scenes that happen in books so sometimes I think a book doesn’t have something and it does
Cows I DNF'd, book was too over the top nasty . Into the wolves den and tender is the flesh are on my best of list in 2024 so far lol. What happened to the two little girls friend in the beginning was horrible.
Cows is not for everyone but I’m glad you love the others. That book destroyed me.
Bae wake up! MEG UPLOADED
😂🩷
Great choices! I'm in the minority, but I found No One Rides for Free to be too goofy to take seriously, definitely wasn't for me lol. Have you read Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite/Billy Martin? My horror book club just read this one and I have an iron stomach, but there were two scenes that made me take a break. One of the absolute best splatterpunk books ever written imo!
I totally get what you’re saying I’ve been feeling that way about MOST extreme horror lately which is why I have been exploring other genres lol
I love Exquisite Corpse!!
I just read Tender Is The Flesh and that ending was INSANE. I had to put the book down and re-think every sentence in the book.
Agree! The ending had me in a chokehold
A Little Life destroyed me too, but its one of the best books ever written. I loved it so much even though I think I had a mental breakdown towards the end. The next book I read to cleans my brain was American Psycho😂😂. I loved that one too.
Both are masterpieces to me!
Cows is so gross.... Its so bad. I think the themes could have been done with more logic and the amount of literal shit ...poop....made no sense....
I totally get it lol it wasn’t my favorite book in the world but I see what he was trying to do
@@ReadingWithMeg you're an angel for seeing beyond the feces 😜
is that the new survivor deluxe edition? 😮
It is!
@@ReadingWithMeg you've got the good stuff, i see
pancakes 🥞 today is pancake day
I just finished tender is the flesh, and it is amazing. I had doubts in the beginning, about if I have the guts to read it. Then I was hooked. I couldn't stop reading.
That’s how I felt I was OBSESSED
Do you ever watch any disturbing movies?
Occasionally. I don’t watch movies often because I have a poor attention span lol
LOL I need therapy anyways... I just started my extreme horror journey by reading Talia 😊
Don’t we all 😂
Happy reading!
I'm not a horror reader bc I would be scared shitless. But always fascinates me to hear about the stories and your opinions on them!! But I love thrillers though,
I get it!! lol
I’ve been taking a break from thrillers but I’d love to find some good ones again
shall i subscribe? just kidding - but what´s your favorite King book? i assume it´s not the obvious one...
Misery or Pet Semetary. I don’t like much King lol
@@ReadingWithMeg ...ko sry ok!
Burner was Soooo good. My best read for sure!!!!!!! It WILL become popular😅😅 that ending is a slam dunk!!!!
That book is FANTASTICCCCCCC I can’t rave about it enough
I rolled my eyes by the end of A Little Life. It was just so hard for me to believe by the end like the author was just sitting there like how can I keep one upping myself with pain and abuse and then the turn his relationship with his best friend takes was just dumb. Thanks for your opinions!
It’s not for everyone sorry it didn’t work for you!
