I’m a 59 year old grandmother who still pretends every day! Especially in summer. Even if it’s just in my mind and people can’t tell on the outside that on the inside I’m in a cooking competition, or Cinderella cleaning the villa, or visiting a secret garden. It makes my chores more fun. Also, a huge huge thanks for the messy mermaid hair!! I live on the French side of the English Channel coast. I try my best to romanticize year-round sweaters, but sometimes I do dream of feeling the heat of the sun on my skin more than a couple of weeks each year.
Summer is my least favorite holiday, I have seasonal depression at this time because I can't be outside as much due to heat intolerance. This video makes summer look so beautiful and fun. You inpired me to try to enjoy the little glimmers that I do enjoy about the season.
Hi, Desi! I have really enjoyed this video and all of your recommendations, like always 😊. As a girl who has been living her whole life in a tiny little village in the south of Spain, where traditions and popular folcklore keep being honored, I have grown up seen my grandmother carrying out a special ritual for summer's solstice. That evening, we fill a bowl with water from 7 different fountains and then we add rose petals and rosemary. The bowl must spend the night outside, receiving moonlinght. The next day, you have to wash your face with this water, which is thought to be magical... this way you make sure that you keep your beauty for another year!!
What I love the most about your videos is that they remind me to get back to the child I once was and have mostly left behind. Its sad really to grow up and it reminds me of what Taylor Swift says “before I learned civility I used to scream ferociously every time I wanted”. Thanks for reminding me to embrace fun outdoor activies, snack boxes and a good cheesy romcom.
Thank you for helping me keep the magic alive in my life and that of my children! They are 6, 4 and 6 months - I pray they will always look back on these beautiful days we spend together making flower crowns, cloud gazing, trying new homemade icey-pole flavours and running through the sprinkler!
YES Rear Window!! That’s a summer staple for me too!! Vintage hot summer in the city with a mystery brewing next door… The jazzy swing score by Waxman is icing on the cake…
My daughter, granddaughter and I tried a new ice cream shop that was started by a 14 year old girl. I had an old fashioned banana split, my daughter had mango sriracha and hot wing ice cream and the granddaughter had cotton candy and mermaid ice creams with gummy bears! She even had a photo setup. When Taylor Swifts movie came out she had special flavors. It was such a cute ice cream shop. Thanks for the recommendations.
@@pumpkinpatch5yes! I’m in the UK too. In my little corner of Cornwall, we’ve been living in a hot and cloudy haze of humidity for ages now. It’s like being in an actual cloud sometimes. I’m living my Care Bear summer. 🌈
Since watching your videos, I've been encouraging myself to love every season. Learn to embrace the seasons, and I think saying yes definitely helps! ❤ I'm putting together my top bingable shows for summer when I want to relax at home 😊
Summer lost its appeal for me probably around college times. Now I'm almost 40 and it's something to get through until Fall. The heat, the bugs, the inevitable sunburns on my fair skin...😫 but I am SO HAPPY someone can enjoy it so thoroughly.
I live for the summer. All year, I go through a state of driving to and from a thankless job every day and simply _existing_ until the sun and warm air banish the cold and dark. My vacation from work started today, and I wasn't even excited for it because all day yesterday, I dealt with rude customers and a demeaning boss. This is my favorite time of year, and I let other people steal my joy in it. This video has been a welcome 'shock' back into my happy summer mode, thank you!
Rear Window is my favourite Alfred Hitchcock movie I've seen! It definitely doesn't get enough recognition. I also really recommend Niagara with Marilyn Monroe, I's a thriller but it gives all the best summer vacation to Niagara Falls vibes, too!
I got a boat tote that says "keeper" because I love lighthouses and lighthouse keepers, and I'm the keeper of all the stuff when our family goes out. I love seeing what people get embroidered on theirs!
DESI. I was making tea in my kitchen and found myself randomly reminiscing about the summers i spent at my grandma's-- eating popsicles, running through sprinklers and taking photos with disposable cameras and taking the film to get developed, etc.... Then I sat down, and this was the FIRST video in my UA-cam recommended. I'm literally going to buy a disposable camera and popsicle molds today 😭😍 PURE MAGIC AS ALWAYS ✨️
Update: Since this comment I've: - eaten homemade elderberry popsicles - taken photos on a disposable camera - strolled in the summer rain - gone to a hot air balloon festival - hosted a full moon bonfire with friends
I made a cold strawberry soup for a dinner party I hosted last weekend and everyone loved it! I used just picked strawberries that I bought from a roadside stand - outstanding! and so easy to make!
Yes I suggested this one in response to one of her Instagram videos a while back!!!! Gives me fond memories of spending the night with my grandma. She's been gone almost 3 years now.
Midsummer is actually celebrated in many countries in Europe and there is no one place where it started. I think we all celebrate it differently but it’s the beauty in it😍
Summer here has been so cold and rainy, but this video really helped me imagine it in a different way. Warmer sunnier days will come! Greetings from Germany! 🌸🌸🌸
I recently moved to live in the middle of the Maine woods! It’s my childhood log cabin where I grew up and where I had my first summer heart break. It’s a big life change. I have no running water, no electricity, no wifi. But here I am still watching my Darling Desi’s video(granted a week later)😅 now that I’m in New England I hope I run into you someday Desi, maybe on a beach or in a library somewhere 🫶 but I understand why you would want to move away, we have a little homestead here in the woods and the ticks are INSANE. It’s a daily chore to pull them off 5 people and 21 farm animals😭 thanx for all the summer tips, I’m gonna be OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE, OUTSIDE all year long 🌞
In the east of Spain during summer solstice we go to the beach at night and light a bonfire. We eat and chat and have a good time, and at midnight everybody goes in the water and jumps over 7 waves. Then we make a wish. Mine always come true. ✨
Summer is my FAVORITE season and I am loving all of these recommendations!! Something that is on my summer bucket list is to have a summer camp themed day for my friends. Think scavenger hunts, natures walks, friendship bracelets, tie-dye, popsicles, jumping in the river, all those fun things from childhood camps! I also can’t wait to read that Peter Pan book omg
Magic in the Moonlight is a Woody Allen film, just in case there are some who would prefer not to watch anything he makes (like me.) I"ll suggest Moonrise Kingdom as a summer movie replacement. This is a cute video! Summer is my favorite season and I'll be doing most of what you suggested over the next few months.

a season doesn’t officially start until Desi drops her seasonal guide. I’m so excited for this summer! 🐚🫧🥥
If anyone wants a great summer movie, the way way back, and the man in the moon!! Watch the trailers and decide for yourself but both are wholesome movies and the man in the moon is so atmospheric. It is a sad one but beautiful and about a girls first love lost.
One of my favourite summer films is Room with a view - particularly the one with Helena Bonham Carter. It’s such a summery film. The book is amazing too.
3:51 if you still want to collect rewards for your summer reading, most public libraries offer summer programs for all ages now! It’s worth checking to see if your library participates!
Another good summer movie is The Way Way Down! It’s quirky and soo cute. It takes place at a water park lol. It kind of has the similar humor/vibe to Little Miss Sunshine if you like that movie as well. I recommend it! Another one I thought of is Aquamarine - but I know this one is geared more towards a younger audience. It was such a cute movie to watch during summer breaks when I was younger. It has mega summer vibes and it’s so wholesome 🐚. Also, I forgot to add, the snack box is such a cute idea! I’m definitely going to try it
I LOVE a snackle box! I use them for when I have flare ups, keep them by my bed so I'm not miserable and hungry on days when my pain is high. They're also great for day trips!
If you like Rear Window, I would recommend To Catch a Thief, another Hitchcock movie with Grace Kelly, and also set in the south of France, there's lots of scenes set in or near the water too.
A movie that makes me feel like summer is Peanuts Butter Falcon. I also just crossed off a water lantern festival off of my summer bucket list! It was amazing ✨ something cathartic about it too.
I’m always so happy and thankful for your videos, and I’m happy to see you’re coming out of your slump (I’m working my way out of one myself). Happy summer!
I saw somewhere online that a company was selling screenless digital cameras. So you are essentially getting the disposable camera nostalgia & experience without the disposable part or the hassle & cost of going to the store to get pictures printed.
Swede here 🙋🏻♀️ Yes we do have a tradition where you pick 7 different kinds of flowers, specifically each flower should come from 7 different fields as well. Not a lot of people to this anymore though. There is also an old tradition where you would go outside and roll around in the morning dew at dawn. It was said to give you good health
This summer for me has included watching Jaws 3..reading Jaws ..watching Summer School .. Bench warmers..Dirty Dancing..eating slush..beach trips and enjoying Summerween! Read Salt and Broom..great novel!!
Lovely ❤I just made a summer bucket list of cozy activities to make the most out of this summer. But honestly I can't wait till fall. It feels like I have to make it through the summer until the best season starts. 😊 Also thanks for the book recommendations. About to make an order.
there's a childhood memory that i want to recreate this summer; me and my grandmother and my siblings sit on the balcony and talking and talking about our life, sticking our feet in tubs of icy water and just eating some yummy posicles! tons of them, and just laugh about random things! (this was back before she had chairs on her balcony and had air conditioning in her apartment, but it's still possible!)
I joined my libraries summer reading challenge, it’s pretty fun and there is the potential to win some prizes! Part of the challenge is also about using library resources like museum/park passes or going to library programs which I think also helps contribute to fun summer activities. I recommend folks looking into if there local has a similar program.
Living in Florida, I try to avoid the summer season, mainly because I am working in it all day. Though after watching this video, I am definitely going to try a beach day and bring a snacklebox with me!
it's not summer rn where i live but summers here can be absolutely EXHAUSTING, it's so hot you're actually advised to stay indoors. because of this, i've always struggled with seasonal depression during the summer, but i want to make my summers a little bit happier and try to not melt into the floor by doing some summer activities. thanks for this video, i'll definitely be trying some of these out!
I'm so happy that you recommended Maxton Hall! I'm German, have read the books, and devoured the series and I would be so happy if an international audience could get to love it, too!
I love everything about this dreamy summer look 🤍and the mermaid hair suits you so well! Feeling so inspired to have an indulgent summer after this video ☀️👙🍉🐚 🧜♀️
Thank you so much for giving summer some love! I know I'm in the minority being a summer season girl and it's so hard to find others who love summer. Until I find my community of summer lovers, at least I got this awesome video 💛 you always put so much attention, love and joy in your videos. 😊
I’m over here raising my hand! 🙋🏼♀️ Can we start a summer fan club? I used to not enjoy it as a kid but I’ve grown to love it so much! I am so much happier when the sun is shining, the trees are green, I can jump in lakes or oceans and read in a hammock outside 🥹
I read Every Summer After per your recommendation and it was a 5 star read! I'm not typically a huge romance girly but this romance was absolutely beautiful and I truly felt like a whole new person after reading it. Inspired by Percy and Sam, I actually ended up braiding myself an anklet with embroidery thread and I've been saying it is 'hot girl anklet summer'. So that is an activity recc and you get a fun summery accessory at the end of it! To all my summer specific SAD friends in the comments, I hear you and I'm sending my love. Dress in comfy, lightweight clothes and curl up with a book inside or throw on one of the summer movies. We've got this!
The woman who wrote the books about Egypt also goes by the name Barbara Michaels and I read her books as a kid. They have all kinds of things I think you will love. Being she did these books when I was in high school they are old but I think you will like them
OMG DESI! THANK YOU!!!!! I LOVE THIS!!!! one show to add since you said you struggle w / summer shows is 'THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY' IT gives alllllll the summertime vibes! Love you!!!
I know this is my third comment on this one video, but I had to also praise Rear Window as being a magnificent movie, no matter the season. Suspense, mystery, and comedy all rolled into one!
As a natural redhead who was never allowed to dye my hair, let me tell you PINK TINSEL in ginger hair is THE ULTIMATE COMBO… pink tinsel ftw… I did it just in the front sections of my hair, and it’s so pretty and not too overwhelming sensory-wise.
Please do a video of the best historical romance novels recommendations! I am so into that genre but do not have time to pick up/buy a book and not like it. And your recommendations are always spot on! Thank you and thanks for this lovely treat of a video!
Heat intolerance makes %99 of summer outdoor activities a big no for me so instead I've been staying in, playing Autumn playlists, lighting fall candles and making pumpkin bread... 🙃
I wouldn't "reward" myself for finishing a book, the book itself was a reward hence why I purchased it in the first place lol. Reading shouldn't be a chore. Or maybe I misinterpreted what you meant? Thank you for the outdoor activities though, great ideas 😊
Oh absolutely reading the book is the reward. My form of self care is cozying up in the evening with my annotating supplies and my book, that is my reward after a busy day. I just think it adds extra fun to completing a summer reading list by “rewarding” myself with little things like a new bookmark or ice cream cone, just for the fun and nostalgia of it 🥰

So I will borrow some of your suggestions, and create some of my own to have a special summer. Thank you Desi, you're a wonderful person. Tote bag idea: Sunshine smile 🌞😎
I was not expecting to hear Sugar Ray and now I’m transported back to my childhood summers haha.
This is so cool and makes me dream because the weather in France right now is not even springy, it feels like autumn
In Italy too, it's been raining nonstop since March in the north
Noooo that’s what I’ve been hearing about so many places in Europe this year ☹️ Sending warm summer wishes your way!
Oh my goodness same, I'm from The Netherlands! It has been raining a lot and is just not warm enough to call it summer
Same in the UK. It’s been very unseasonable weather!
@@pumpkinpatch5yes! I’m in the UK too. In my little corner of Cornwall, we’ve been living in a hot and cloudy haze of humidity for ages now. It’s like being in an actual cloud sometimes. I’m living my Care Bear summer. 🌈
This came at the perfect time! Sipping my iced coffee outside with a book in hand. ☀️
You are the embodiment of summer!! 😍 That sounds the perfect summer sunday afternoon 😌
Since watching your videos, I've been encouraging myself to love every season. Learn to embrace the seasons, and I think saying yes definitely helps! ❤
I'm putting together my top bingable shows for summer when I want to relax at home 😊
That makes me so happy to hear!! That is why I make these videos 🥰🫶🏻
Summer lost its appeal for me probably around college times. Now I'm almost 40 and it's something to get through until Fall. The heat, the bugs, the inevitable sunburns on my fair skin...😫 but I am SO HAPPY someone can enjoy it so thoroughly.
The white dress 🥰 It reminds me of something Anne would wear during summer. (They all look amazing on you!)
How was your summer vacation 💕?
I'm literally going to buy a disposable camera and popsicle molds today 😭😍
PURE MAGIC AS ALWAYS ✨️
Update: Since this comment I've:
- eaten homemade elderberry popsicles
- taken photos on a disposable camera
- strolled in the summer rain
- gone to a hot air balloon festival
- hosted a full moon bonfire with friends
I miss fall and winter so much 😭❤
Me too!! 🍁 ❄️
I made a cold strawberry soup for a dinner party I hosted last weekend and everyone loved it! I used just picked strawberries that I bought from a roadside stand - outstanding! and so easy to make!
Recipe please
It’s midsummer today! I’m working on picking my flowers so I can put them under my pillow tonight! 🌷
Youre making me LOVE and romanticize summer!! Thanks for sharing all these!
That makes me SO happy 🥹 Thank you for watching!
Who knew typing “fall vibes” would lead me to you! Soooo happy I have Desi now! 😆🍂🎄☀️🌸
Your videos are some of the only UA-cam content I rewatch. They are so positive and relaxing.
Watermelon + feta is all I eat in summer it's the BEST!!! I also love it with basil and balsamic vinegar instead of mint and lime juice.
For me, as a 90’s teen, my ultimate summer movie is ‘Now and Then’. Have you seen it, Desi? I think you’d love it!
The summer reading list! I remember this from my public library ❤ 📚
You are the sweetest. I hope you get some good to help you live your best summer!! 🫶🏻♥️
If anyone wants a great summer movie, the way way back, and the man in the moon!! Watch the trailers and decide for yourself but both are wholesome movies and the man in the moon is so atmospheric. It is a sad one but beautiful and about a girls first love lost.
I love how you romanticize every season ❤
I loooove your videos, this is my comfort UA-cam channel and I hope you never stop making videos ❤
I’m definitely going to try it
I love Aquamarine!
I LOVE a snackle box! I use them for when I have flare ups, keep them by my bed so I'm not miserable and hungry on days when my pain is high. They're also great for day trips!
The summer I turned pretty is my FAVORITE summer show!!!!!!!
If you like Rear Window, I would recommend To Catch a Thief, another Hitchcock movie with Grace Kelly, and also set in the south of France, there's lots of scenes set in or near the water too.
I love love love that movie! So much so that I included it in one of my previous summer start pack videos ☺️
A movie that makes me feel like summer is Peanuts Butter Falcon. I also just crossed off a water lantern festival off of my summer bucket list! It was amazing ✨ something cathartic about it too.
Ah that purple sweater is so Kit Kitterage, so cute!
I’m always so happy and thankful for your videos, and I’m happy to see you’re coming out of your slump (I’m working my way out of one myself). Happy summer!
Im a fall girlie, but this just makes me love summer❤
I saw somewhere online that a company was selling screenless digital cameras. So you are essentially getting the disposable camera nostalgia & experience without the disposable part or the hassle & cost of going to the store to get pictures printed.
You hit on the best summer movie-Rear Window! I watch it all the time. So perfect. So summer.
OMG! NEWJEANS' RIGHT NOW AND DARLING DESI🤯🤯🤯 I am so sososoooo happy right noww
I hope you enjoy it!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Also thanks for the book recommendations.
Mine does and they gave us a little booklet of fun activities you can do and if so many do it: they will plant a tree!
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies and books are my fav summer series!
I'm so happy that you recommended Maxton Hall! I'm German, have read the books, and devoured the series and I would be so happy if an international audience could get to love it, too!
Summer can officially start! ❤
You really live life and thank you for these wonderful suggestions ❤EXCELLENT!
Thank YOU! 🥹🫶🏻
I love everything about this dreamy summer look 🤍and the mermaid hair suits you so well! Feeling so inspired to have an indulgent summer after this video ☀️👙🍉🐚 🧜♀️
Rear window! So good. I also loves all of Grace Kelly's outfits.
H2O - Just add water - is one of my summer favorites too 😊🧜♀
Thank you so much for giving summer some love!
One of my favorite summer movies is A Room with a View. Summer in Italy. Chefs kiss.
Babysitter's Club is a great addition too! Even though its middle grade.. It had summer vibes to it.
The woman who wrote the books about Egypt also goes by the name Barbara Michaels and I read her books as a kid. They have all kinds of things I think you will love. Being she did these books when I was in high school they are old but I think you will like them
Barbara Michaels (aka Elizabeth Peters) is an all time favorite author. I love her older books.
I was feeling so depressed about summer but now I actually feel hopeful and inspired to make it a great season! 😊
Me too. Especially because I’m in Az where most summer days are overwhelmingly hot and bright.
The only way to get through summer
If you have heat intolerance and insomnia that was a symptom of my brain tumor just fyi.
I have POTS so I UNDERSTAND. Also I have definitely been starting a fall playlist
@@WomanTakenBytheWind I have heat intolerance along with multiple other parts of my disabilities because of a brain tumor I had at 16 🙃
I wouldn't "reward" myself for finishing a book, the book itself was a reward hence why I purchased it in the first place lol.
I just think it adds extra fun to completing a summer reading list by “rewarding” myself with little things like a new bookmark or ice cream cone, just for the fun and nostalgia of it 🥰
It's 115 here every day and I SO wish I could do all this!!! I miss my childhood summers where I lived somewhere coastal!!!!
Wow! I love your summer ideas. Summer is not usually my favorite but after watching your videos, I started to appreciate that every season can be a joyful and fun time. So I will borrow some of your suggestions, and create some of my own to have a special summer. Thank you Desi, you're a wonderful person. Tote bag idea: Sunshine smile 🌞😎
Dear Desi, I would also recommend 'A Room with a View' for a summer feel. Enjoy!
I love a Room With a View ☺️ For me it’s a springtime movie! I watch it every spring! ☺️
The joy I feel when Desi uploads a new video... 😊
And H2O Mako Island Mermaids is just as cute and filled with summer cheese!! 🌊 🧜♀️ 🐚 🌸
I was not expecting to hear Sugar Ray and now I’m transported back to my childhood summers haha. Now I’m going to make a summer playlist of songs I’ve always associated with summer from childhood to now. As someone who always got depressed in summer, I’ve been trying to make summer more enjoyable the past two years 🥲😎☀️🌻💛
desi you never miss. every time I watch one of your videos it gives me wonderfull inspo
for the intire season! it literally feels I'm taliking to a friend.
That is absolutely the nicest thing to say. Thank you 🥹🫶🏻
