I noticed something funny. Blue Cortex skin. It's colour is the shade of periwinkle blue. Cortex's whole name is Neo Periwinkle Cortex. Also, ever since the game's launch, for the strange reason Blue Cortex reminds me of Dr. Drakken a bit.

This is a great idea as I do wonder how some of these character skins are picked and what they reference. Keep up the good work on this great worn idea. I mean even I want to know if Nina Cortex has a few reference skins/character costumes.
To be accurate about that Clown Cortex part: As stated in Wrath of Cortex strategy guide, Cortex comes from a family of clowns and he wasn't interested in clowning and making people smile. Instead he spent time reading science books. So his mean siblings force tattooed that N on his forehead, standing for ''nerd.'' And he was three years old when that happened. And then the freak ''accident'' happened that blew up Cortex's family to smithereens(save for one since Nina exists since she is Cortex's niece after all). At the age of four he enrolled to Madame Amberly's Academy of Evil and the rest is history. Except for the fact there was another freak ''accident'' when once again bullied Cortex was in high school when the whole place blew up just ''conviniently'' when he and N. Brio were two miles underground in an abandoned plutonium mine during the ''accident.'' But in other words, that Clown Cortex victory animation clearly shows how much he HATES his background.

Ripper Roo has a top hat skin with a mustache and cane as a nod to the one he has in Crash 2 7. Lab Assistant has a Where's Waldo? skin 8. Marmalade Fisherman Polar is reference to Paddington bear 9. Humpty N. Trance is Humpty Dumpty after cracking his head 10-11. Small Norm and Big Norm have World of Warcraft skins 12. Liz's circus skin resembles Sombra from Overwatch 13. Musketeer Pura is a reference to Puss in Boots from Shrek 2 16. Professor Crash from CTTR is also a reference to Back to the Future with the Probulot 2000 17 Dirt Bike Crunch resembles Master Chief from Halo 18. Devil Dog Zam is based on the Devil Dog enemies from Dark Passage in Spyro 1 And you should have included the skin references taken directly from NST including 20-22. Biker Crash, Scuba Crash, Aviator Crash 23-25. Prince Lab Assistant, Knight Lab Assistant, Lumberjack Lab Assistant 26. Gladiator Tiny 27, Pharaoh Cortex based on the Cortex sphynx seen in the Egyptian levels of Crash 3.
Looking through those skins.... it made me think how we all unlocked them... instead of unlocking them via challenge, we had nothing but money grind instead. I kinda wish we had "challenge series" or "mission series" like from...... game i used to play in the past (King of fighters maximum impact on PS2) and that game had missions, which when you beat them... you unlocked alternate costumes for the characters. Now imagine... challenges like get 700000 point on ring rally at hot air skyway would give you lets say, Pinstripe's legendary skin alt 2 for example. I feel, that would be more satisfying and rewarding the player... then the simple grind. But then again... im kinda stuck with the mentality of older games, so the opinion on the matter is surely biased, so anyone reading it, please take it with the grain of salt. ;)
much like Tiny, Papu Papu and N. Brio have Street Fighter related skins in the form of their Green and Fire Wizard recolors (being based on Blanka and Dhalsim respectively). The Lab Assistant's Lumberjack skin is an obvious reference to Mario right down to the Donkey Kong style mallet on his victory screen. His Traveler skin is also based on Where's Waldo and his hacker skin is based on Morphius from The Matrix. Fixed Rilla Roo's green skin is directly based on The Incredible Hulk. Also not sure if this one intentional or not but Gnasty Gnorc's purple skin kinda resembles Thanos.
Also the Lab Assistant in his Lumberjack Jack gear was an enemy in Crash 2 and the whole point of him being there was a mario reference, he even uses a hammer.
Cortex’s Clown skin is also a reference to Crash Nitro Kart where he called Big Norm a filthy clown. Maybe it’s Big Norm’s payback. N Gin’s Ballerina skin is a reference to Crash Tag Team Racing Polar’s Fisherman skin is a reference to Paddington Bear and his recolour Marmalade Fisherman takes it more further by giving him the same colours as Paddington himself. Wizard Komodo Joe’s skin is a reference to the purple robed wizards from the first Spyro game. Pinstripe’s purple suit skin could be a reference to Crash Twinsanity. Captain Velo XXVII is a reference to John Silver from Treasure Planet Traveller Lab Assistant is a reference to Where’s Wally? Green Fixed Rilla Roo is a reference to The Incredible Hulk Could Ragdoll Nina be inspied by Ragdoll Productions’ 1985 logo? Maybe Hacker Lab Assistant is a reference to the black clothed Lab Assistants in Wrath of Cortex If Megumi got a Cosplay skin, would it be based on Sailor Moon. A nice nod to Stephanie Sheh, who voiced Usagi in Sailor Moon Crystal English dub. I think Komodo Joe’s Green skin kinda makes him resemble Sir Hiss (Robin Hood 1973) in his blue clothes.
Boba Fett How about a Coco Bandicoot skin called Rocket Coco? It could be a nice little nod to how Debi Derryberry voiced Jimmy Neutron. (The Derryberry Family doesn’t have a coat of arms in case you’re wondering)

- Black Velvet Witch Tawna -> The Wicked Witch from Wizard of Oz (green skin)
- Frank N. Brio -> Frankenstein's monster
- Ragdoll Nina -> Pippi Langstrumpf
- Traveler Lab Assistant -> Where is Waldo/Wally/etc.
Bonus, since I can't confirm it, but based on the costume make it a strong possibility: Motorsport Liz -> Danica Patrick
I think you missed General Tiny which is refference to Crash of the Titans
7:19 the ninja outfit is a reference both to cttr and the wrath of cortex because he shares the same unique eyebrows with the penguins from that game
Pinstripe's negative skin also resembles the gangster movies from the 30's, since all of those were filmed in black and white, hence the negative name.
Also to add on, it could be a scarface reference with its black and white character. Its even a referenced in Hot Air Skyway
Another one of Polar's skins is a reference to Paddington Bear.
What about the oil monster fake crash skin, it could be a reference to the lost ones from BatIM.
I am pretty sure that the traveller lab assistant is a reference to "where's wally"
yeah good spot!
6:40 I actually thought it was a reference to the Golden Compass movie.
Whoa! Wasn’t expecting a video so late in the day am I right? A welcome addition to my watch list though!
Velo's pirate skin is a reference to Treasure Planet! It also looks similar to Captain K. Rool from Donkey Kong Country 2. (Which is worth nothing since crash shares similarities to the DKC series.)
If there’s one reference I’d love to see is the 1997 Universal logo during the title screen.
Happy Bandicoot Month everybody!
I always thaught Polar has a Paddington Bear Skin.... because of that yellow jacket.
7:28 ... Or it just a reference to black and white picture ? it probably that
So Scarface?
I tought about the Noir style movies.
@@Dragonfire2505 that is Pinstripe's bread and better when it comes to personality, it's like his guilty pleasure or something like that.
You forgot that General Tiny may be a reference to his appearance in Crash of the Titans.
Komodo Moe has a Jedi skin
polar's fisher skin reminds me of georgie from the movie IT.
Emperor Velo Space Pirate Skin reminds me of Captain K. Rool from Donkey Kong Country 2.
which also makes more of a connection between the two franchises since Naughty Dog recreated the hub world of Diddy Kong Racing as a test for the original CTR
Similarly: Crash's Blue Hyena skin reminds me of Sonic The Hedgehog
In a similar boat, Clown Cortex reminds me of Needles Kane (Sweet Tooth) from Twisted Metal III
This is a great idea as I do wonder how some of these character skins are picked and what they reference. Keep up the good work on this great worn idea. I mean even I want to know if Nina Cortex has a few reference skins/character costumes.
To be accurate about that Clown Cortex part:
As stated in Wrath of Cortex strategy guide, Cortex comes from a family of clowns and he wasn't interested in clowning and making people smile. Brio were two miles underground in an abandoned plutonium mine during the ''accident.''
But in other words, that Clown Cortex victory animation clearly shows how much he HATES his background.
Is Nina his niece or daughter? Pretty sure they've left that vague.
GREAT
...but you missed X boxes, er, references.
For real, great job on this, but there are tons more even if you have to mention tropes. I feel like it would even be better to include them rather than exclude them, but that’s just me! 🤗
I just wish another update comes.
Witch Tawna (particularly her podium animation) is a reference to Samantha in the opening of Bewitched.
Another reference someone pointed out on Instagram is another one of coco’s skins looking similar to shantae from the video game series. That one may not be true but the purple and orange colour scheme doesn’t seem that coincidental.
Zam Bulldog always looked like an obvious reference to Earl from Rocko’s Modern Life, to me. 🤷🏻♂️
Marmalade fisherman Polar's clothes are a reference to Paddington, while his yellow fur personally reminds me of Winnie the pooh. I think it's a double reference
Also, Musketeer Pura most likely references Puss in boots
CanadianGuyEh : You missed the following:
1-2. Evil Coco and Evil Crunch that were taken directly from Crash Mind Over Mutant
3. Beach Coco has her hairstyle from Crash of the Titans
4. Ballerina N.Gin is from CTTR
5. Dingodile has a firefighter skin based off his epilogue from CTR's credits
6. Ripper Roo has a top hat skin with a mustache and cane as a nod to the one he has in Crash 2
7. Lab Assistant has a Where's Waldo? skin
8. Marmalade Fisherman Polar is reference to Paddington bear
9. Humpty N. Trance is Humpty Dumpty after cracking his head
10-11. Small Norm and Big Norm have World of Warcraft skins
12. Liz's circus skin resembles Sombra from Overwatch
13. Dark Spyro skin is the Skylanders take on Dark Spyro from Legend of Spyro The Eternal Night
14. Spyro's superflame and ice breath skins are his powerups from Spyro Reignited Trilogy
15. Musketeer Pura is a reference to Puss in Boots from Shrek 2
16. Professor Crash from CTTR is also a reference to Back to the Future with the Probulot 2000
17 Dirt Bike Crunch resembles Master Chief from Halo
18. The Lab Assistant's Hacker skin is based on The Matrix
19. Devil Dog Zam is based on the Devil Dog enemies from Dark Passage in Spyro 1
And you should have included the skin references taken directly from NST including
20-22. Biker Crash, Scuba Crash, Aviator Crash
23-25. Prince Lab Assistant, Knight Lab Assistant, Lumberjack Lab Assistant
26. Gladiator Tiny
27, Pharaoh Cortex based on the Cortex sphynx seen in the Egyptian levels of Crash 3.
A for effort from a fellow Hispanic on the attempt of saying day of the dead in Spanish
N Gin’s Ballerina skin is a reference to Crash Tag Team Racing
Polar’s Fisherman skin is a reference to Paddington Bear and his recolour Marmalade Fisherman takes it more further by giving him the same colours as Paddington himself.
Wizard Komodo Joe’s skin is a reference to the purple robed wizards from the first Spyro game.
Pinstripe’s purple suit skin could be a reference to Crash Twinsanity.
Captain Velo XXVII is a reference to John Silver from Treasure Planet
Traveller Lab Assistant is a reference to Where’s Wally?
Green Fixed Rilla Roo is a reference to The Incredible Hulk
Could Ragdoll Nina be inspied by Ragdoll Productions’ 1985 logo?
Maybe Hacker Lab Assistant is a reference to the black clothed Lab Assistants in Wrath of Cortex
If Megumi got a Cosplay skin, would it be based on Sailor Moon. A nice nod to Stephanie Sheh, who voiced Usagi in Sailor Moon Crystal English dub.
I think Komodo Joe’s Green skin kinda makes him resemble Sir Hiss (Robin Hood 1973) in his blue clothes.
Very good, even better than i would do. 👌
Also there will be a part two, can't expect CGE to cover all 50+ characters in one video eh..
Boba Fett How about a Coco Bandicoot skin called Rocket Coco? It could be a nice little nod to how Debi Derryberry voiced Jimmy Neutron. (The Derryberry Family doesn’t have a coat of arms in case you’re wondering)
Theres a skin for fake crash which came out during the spooky gp. Monster fake crash i think hes called. If u watch his victory animation he does the same movements and has the same appearance as the sludge titan in crash of the titans
Now that you mentioned Disney they will notice and copyright-strike CTR
You missed LOADS of references for skins. Even obvious ones like Gladiator Tiny and loads of Crash’s alts.
@@BlusterTheBenevolent gladiator tiny was his attire in his boss in crash 3
A quick reference for dingo is his firefighter outfit. While it's only a minor reference. It's in to the end credits of CTR where it shows what the characters were up to after Racing. Dingo put down his flamethrower for a high powered water hose and became of course a firefighter
You forgot polar's paddington skin
Also Cortex's red, blue and green skins are a reference to his boss fight from SB1, they're the color of the shots he fires
Ami's circus costume is a reference to Mary Poppins, I think
Well, Winter Tawna is a reference to Cindy Lou Who from "The Grinch" and Neon Circus Ami is a reference to classic CTR.
Yaya's blonde skin (Cupcake I believe) looks like Tiff/Fumu from the Kirby anime.
Evil crunch (and the equivalent coco skin) refer back to that 2nd mind over mutant skin
Here’s some references I noticed that no one has brought up (some of these may be incorrect)
Princess Coco’s winning animation references Snow White
Penta Gentleman might be referencing both The Riddler and The Penguin from Batman
Mad Scientist Ripper Roo is a reference to Back to the Future
Red Cortex and Baby Cortex might be a reference to McDonald’s
Green Fixed Rilla Roo references The Incredible Hulk
Lumberjack Lab Assistant is a reference to Jumpman from the Donkey Kong arcade game
The Space Spyro skin is a reference to Figment from Journey Into Imagination at Epcot.
The skunk could also reference that one skunk you spin into the nitros in Twinsanity that refuses to walk back and forward
N. Trace's Yellow Skin is a reference to Egg Fu the Supervillian of Wonder Woman from DC comics.
Zem's prehistoric outfit Is a reference to the flintstones his winning podium even has the wacky sounds they use
Man, Cortex has a harsh backstory. No wonder he's evil
The Star Crash may be an indirect reference to the Trekie Crash outfit from Crash Tag Team Racing since they both have a reference to Star Trek uniforms
Blue Geary looks like Rodney Copperbottom from Robots.
But his victory animation is definitely Iron Man.
I kind of already knew one of Tiny's skin almost looked liked M. Bison from Street Fighter
I honestly thought that was a reference to a USSR general
That was a reference that i was quick to mention when Canadian Guy Eh streamed the latest patch
Evel Knievel's son, Robbie Knievel, appeared in one of the commercials promoting Crash Bandicoot: Warped
