A rumor that became an actual character inspired by the urban legend. Reminds me of Ermac in the Mortal Kombat franchise.
Hasty's creation story has got to be the most exciting. And the fact he's just officially a new character, all because of a silly mistake and rumor...
Whoever made the rumor... gotta thank them with the pat on the back and a cookie.

Heh, funnly enough, he gave me a Funky Kong vibe the moment I saw him for some reason.
Really interesting to hear a more in-depth origin story of this character's conception.
If I were to comment a suggestion for any future videos, perhaps more origin stories for other obscure characters like Yaya Panda or something. All I gathered about her from the wiki is that Cortex deforested her bamboo forest habitat and that she *might* be good friends with Coco

The fact that Beenox went the extra level to include a character from an urban legend from the 90s that only a small portion of the CTR fandom had heard of just shows just how dedicated they are to representing the entire Crash Bandicoot franchise. It's so awesome.
TBH I’m glad they renamed him Hasty. I think “Fasty” just sounds dumb.

Walter Clements I mean, Trippo IS a cool name, but that name clearly wouldn’t work for Hasty because
1. Hasty is now a Moose, not a hippo.
2. Much like the original character design itself, the name Trippo is not owned by Activision.
So basically, we have a new character based off of a myth or misunderstanding of a character that was never intended for CTR in the first place.🤔
That character is now one of my favorites in the game. Hasty is very fun to play as plus being a Canadian moose earns him points in my eyes.🙂👏👌

Madame Amberly as a character for a school grand prix, also a restaurant grand prix staring Rusty Walrus and Willie Wumpa Cheeks would be cool, I could see the intro with Rusty trying to chase down Willie in an attempt to make a meal out of him. XD

Ok, thats the real life story behind his creation, but whats his origin ingame?
We know nothing about his actual story...
Maybe he's a professional stunt pilot?
Or maybe he's like Launchpad McQuack, but in moose form.
Whatever the case, he's clearly an aviator with experience piloting a myriad of flying machines, if his patches are accurate indicators.
Having Aku Aku as his guardian mask would suggest he's a good guy.
Hopefully the next crash game will fill in some gaps, not just for him, but the other characters as well.
We'll have to wait for him to show up in another Crash game.

@@Ghst-kr2uk yeah, we do. We know he was created by nitrus brio alongside dingodile, but was considered a failed experiment, thats why brio didnt used him to try stop crash and Cortex on Cortex Strikes Back.

I kinda have a theory that Beenox just decided to introduce all of these characters because most of them are gonna appear in a new Crash Bandicoot game (and it would be awesome!!) That could be a pretty big game and an incredible comeback (not as a remaster but as a completely new game! And Hasty might be a playable character for some avia levels (cause why not haha)
One of the next Grand Prix could be set in the 10th Dimension an feature Evil Crash & the Evil Twins as racers

I think (and hope) Hasty will probably be in future Crash games. These “the history of” videos are great, I’ve learned a lot about Crash’s legacy, even as a diehard fan. It makes me want to dig for other characters - is there any info on Zem and Zam from CNK, or are they just Oxide’s cronies just because?
I assume they filler racers to fill all racers due to adventure mode.

I really would have preferred if Hasty stayed as a Hippo, but it doesn’t matter because either way we got an awesome and hilarious character who fits perfectly into the Crash universe.

Me, I'm just trying to figure out the in-universe origins... Remember, the entire reason these human/animal hybrids came into being was Cortex experimenting in an Australia-like environment.
Every such animal, therefore, has fit into that environment, from Koalas to Dingos, Potoroos to Opossums, and of course Bandicoots. A hippo _might_ have fit, but a moose?
Now, if no explanation is given, I COULD just say he's from Sonic's or Sly's world (crossed those and many others with Crash for a long time), but I'd rather have something more... official?
Maybe he was created by someone else?
Brio is credited as being the one who created the evolvo-ray, maybe he had some side projects?
Maybe N.Gin has had a little bit of fun in his spare time behind Cortex's back as well.
Or maybe Crash exists in a world filled with evil scientists and mutated critters running amok, not unlike the Sonic world.
It's all very fascinating to think about.
He could be a Von Clutch creation like Pasadena, Willie, Chick and Stew.

@@JoakoQuesada But he's a Nazi cyborg fanboy. He could have gotten his own Evolvo-Ray. If he didn't then where did Pasadena, Willie, Chick and Stew come from? Cortex met them for the first time in Crash Tag Team Racing so we know they are not Cortex's creations. If Brio created them, who else has Brio created that Cortex didn't know about? Okay, I guess there are other characters with unknown creators like Viscount. But Von Clutch ticks off enough German stereotypes to be a scientist, even if he doesn't go by Doctor. He probably has an Evolvo-Ray stashed away somewhere in an underground lab beneath the park.
Von Clutch doing this sort of thing makes a lot of sense actually. Pasadena does seem to have a level of loyalty to him that's possibly of familial bonds, and the guy is a massive Crash fanboy (not only does he have all his games, but knows Cortex's middle name was Periwinkle. WE didn't know that fact before CTTR!). Between that and his inherent intellect from building his Motorworld, I could buy him reverse-engineering the Evolvo-Ray out of sheer fan appreciation.
However... while that explains the CTTR crowd, I don't think those that came after can be explained similarly. We'd have heard if he was still expanding his theme park, right? And without such expansions, specifically importing a panda or moose doesn't make sense.
Someone can do a remake of the original design to look like Nitro Fueled graphics and compare to the original Hasty? ;)
Could you explore King Chicken some? Hes new, has a really hard means of unlocking him compared to most characters, and the game is littered with similar chickens in the background.
However when hes introduced both Chic and Stew who are chickens themselves barely acknowledge him in the grand prix intro, and just quietly put a crown on his head for seemingly no reason.
Is there any unspoken lore out their to dig for when it comes to this brand new character that just seems like a regular chicken with a crown on his head?
Chickens are something of a running joke in the later Crash games, for instance in Crash Twinsanity certain puzzles require you to scare chickens towards Nitro crates in order to detonate them, and playing co-op mode in Mind Over Mutant allows you to control Aku Aku and throw chickens as a weapon.
Crash Tag Team Racing features them most prominently though. It has a number of short joke cutscenes, many of which involve Crash dying in weird ways, and a significant number of which feature chickens. There are also chicken challenges, which require you to run around the platforming areas collecting chickens as fast as possible. Some idle animations involve chickens, and of course they're used as a powerup equivalent to the bowling bomb.
CTR Nitro-Fueled also has chickens hidden in the scenery of most (if not all) tracks. I imagine it's simply a reference to all that.
@@TheMoonRover just a little note: in the co-op mode from Mind over mutant you don't control Aku Aku, you control a mask called Crash mask
Another reference to Fasty was that in the Winter event, the Relic Gold Pain Job provides a Nitro Boost!

I haven't played a Crash game in years and just got CTR over Christmas and am really enjoying it. Could you do a video explaining any notable skin/color variation for the roster that are references to stuff? I assume more of the skins/color variations are just for fun with no reference but from someone with almost no background knowledge on Spyro or crash, it would be nice to know any easter eggs.

It's really interesting to have a good, in depth look at the context behind Hasty's creation, as I've heard all of this story before, but never to this extent. And I also gotta wonder if Hasty's ever gonna show up in the franchise outside of CTR Nitro Fueled. Hasty has a fun personality and design, and it'd be a shame if he was created and just left to sit on the sidelines after the racing's done and Crash goes back to platforming.

Possibly Jak and daxter DLC considering naughty dog also introduced those characters but sony owns jak and daxter and Activision owns crash and spyro so it would most likely have to be DLC but since naughty dog was responsible for crash and Jak it could happen

A bit like Morpho Knight from Kirby Star Allies of which his design is based on the Meta Knight's beta design. Although Hasty's origins are more complicated.

The first time I saw the original Hasty (or Fasty, or Trippo) the bomber jacket he wore reminds me of Terry Bogard's Garou: Mark of the Wolves jacket a little bit. 👀
Hasty is really a pilot in command and his line "absolute ceiling" when jumping means the maximum density altitude an aircraft can reach under a set of conditions, as determined by its flight envelope according to google search. Hasty can really be a best pilot to the Crash Bandicoot family!
So let me guess this straight Hasty is inspired by a character named Fasty who is originally going to be the mascot for trippo and Fasty is a legend which inspires Hasty

I didn't care about him when he was first revealed. I just remember going "who the hell?", because I was all about Yaya Panda. However after using him once, I adore him now too. He's so cool.

I wonder if there is some truth about there being a fifth different unlockable character in the Japanese CTR at some point, it seems we never got a clear answer about that. Hmmmm. 🤔

Meh, the team mode in that game was so negligible I never even noticed it. You'd have to go as far as Team Sonic Racing to make it feel meaningful, which is the big reason why I even HAVE that game in addition to this one.

I only gave it a week then stopped completely since I had no idea what I was doing.
I still think Hasty should have been a Reindeer instead of a Moose. To give him a better reason to headline Winter Featival.
What's not to say that Hasty wasn't designed for the next Crash/Spyro game, and they were testing how people would react to him in CTR
That's why i love Crash and Mortal Kombat (i know polar opposite) they acknowledge glitch/unreleased characters.
For example with Scarlet being a code/glitch but now she has a full role and personality.

They also has Arctic Bratgirls skin outfits as well!!! Please????? PLEEEEEAAASSSSSSSE?????????????? Make this come TRUE!!! I'm sure they will do awesomely for an Apocolyptic Grand Prix of Rustlands!!!

Well, its not THAT unique of a history. Mortal Kombat was more or less built on creating new characters from misconceptions and fan rumors. Ermac and Skarlet having almost the exact same path as Hasty. Still, cool of Beenox to tie all of that together.
So, it's a brand new chatacter still.
