Regarding the mirror mode: It's not the animations or the models that are flipped. Instead, the projected scene on the screen is flipped in its entirety. The game loads the exact same courses and characters as in a regular race and just changes how they are displayed. That's why you won't find any mirrored models or tracks in the game files.
Exactly what i though. I dont think the mirror mode thing qualifies as an easter egg at all, since pretty much the whole display is what its mirrored, with the exception of the HUD. And the controls i assume are inverted so they match the correct direction on the mirrored display. Is the same trick used in other mirror modes from other games, like Jak & Daxter, where Daxter switch from Jak's left shoulder to its righ one, but its not the model or the animations what changes, but the view itself.
I was about to say this lol. Mirror mode is all efficency. It's wasted game space otherwise. Just flip the scene and keep the hud and reverse left and right input and you'll never know the difference. That's the reason Mirror mode is like that. Every game does this I swear too.
I notice some more things when I'm on mirror mode that I hadn't noticed before. Especially in crash cove, not that there is anything real interesting there but It did throw me off a little bit. Still not necessarily an easter egg though
I don't think you would actually need mirrored models as standalone models. Some game engines can freely resize, flip or reshape models to some extent. Having said that, I was about to post near enough the exact same comment - it is the more efficient option.
About Mirror Mode, it's a thing that's quite common across all games that have this feature, like Luigi's L being mirrored in Luigi's Mansion's Mirror Mode. I believe what they do is not mirror the tracks, but mirror the entire screen sans HUD and swap the left and right inputs. It's less about attention to detail and more about efficiency.
Yeah, it also happens in the Ratchet and Clank games... especially since in later titles, they even mirror the in-game cutscenes. He probably should have talked about how the music on some tracks dynamically changes depending on location, like the end of the Cortex Castle gaining a church organ or the tunnel in Koala Carnival turning the music into a techno trance.
Another reference is that the post-apocalyptic polar skin, the baby Crash pajama skin and the fake crash monster skin are all references to some crash of the titans. For example: -Baby Crash pajama refers to "Ratcicle" -Polar post-apocalyptic is a reference of "Rhinoroller" -And fake crash monster is a clear reference to the mutant "Sludge" Apparently Beenox integrates some mutants in order not to put everyone as playable characters: v
I like that one penguin in Blizzard Bluff dancing/shuffling in the chairlift. Every time I see him, I can't help but imagine the opening of Billie Jean playing as he scoots across the screen, and laugh.
Theres so much love in this game. Just the fact that penta penguin has his placeholder "penguin yay 1" easter egg voice line shows beenox really do love the original and wanted a remake as much as we did
About the Lab Assistants, there's the secret warp room in Crash Warped, where you can see the Lab Asses' assembly line, transporting into a "disguise" machine, and then into a warp to other levels (in N. Sane, this include levels from CB1 and CB2 if I remember correctly).
I had found all of these except the Terminator one (such a great catch) and the singing fish. I had seen the fish many times but never heard him sing. If you take a closer look, he's actually emulating the sound the crystals make when you pick them up. Excellent easter egg.
Well, the thing that you've chosen for the first place has way less depth than you think. It's not quite that beenox paid so much attention to the smallest details when creating the mirror mode. I mean, it is possible that they flipped every asset, animation, and even every sticker, but I doubt they did that, it's highly improbable. What I think they did, and I'm nearly 100% sure they did it in that way is... well, nearly nothing. Mirrored tracks are probably nothing else than regular tracks, but image rendering is flipped horizontally in that mode, as well as steering. That's it - flip image horizontally, invert steering and voila - mirror mode.
Heres one for ya, in Megamix Mania when you enter the destroyed ship right before the jump where you can take the short cut, if you stop before the jump ramp and (if you have your camera view zoomed out) you can see two rats from N. Gins Lab trying to help a metal robot rat back up from falling.
I swear I’m the only one who’s noticed this but there is a lab Assistant in mystery caves, you only see him in single player time trial on the 2nd lap onwards right after the baby t’s there a space in the track wall look through it and you’ll se a lab Assistant in red and black gi meditating on a rock in the lava
There are two things ya should know: 1. That mirror thing was also intact in trophy podium when racing in mirrored cups, however, after Spyro & Friends GP's update, the podium mirroring was gone for some reason. 2. I think the easter egg that SHOULDA been in here, is Clown Cortex skin, a VERY subtle reference to Cortex's backstory told in Wrath of Cortex strategy guide.
In adventure mode, you can see Pura trying to grab your keys when he keeps jumping, you can see it near Papu's Pyramid portal and in front of where the podium is... x
Okay you just said it. Btw, you can also see Arctic Nash(s) in Meteor Gorge in almost every part of the track and that’s a reference why Nash got the Arctic skin during winter GP. It’s pretty cute xD
@Crash Bandicoot Fan29 I thought it was interesting that Beenox chose multiple sizes and shapes for the 2D scientists. They're not the standard, stick-thin scientist that pops up in the platform games.
Huh, I actually didn't know about some of these, like the stained glass and the singing fish. Nice finds! 2:22 That's probably just a generic Egyptian symbol.
Ceejay C something similar to Mirage from Aladdin the TV series where her face is black but wears like Sekhmet, still noted as a character based on Bastet.
Alex Saunders In N. Gin Labs, after you leave the turbo tunnel, on both sides of the track, you can see scientists working on N. Gin’s mech suits from his Cortex Strikes Back and Warped boss fights.
Why would you think of an innuendo with Fuzzy Dice and Oxide? He's a alien with no fur. But if you said this about Crash Bandicoot then yes I would take that as an innuendo.
Honestly, almost all of these I knew, there is way more easter eggs on the game and you should do a "ANOTHER 10 CTR Nitro-Fueled Easter Eggs You Didn't Know" video
@Canadian Guy Eh 8:05 There are also mirrored Tire Tread patterns on wheels, like with... - Team Bandicoot Wheels (Beenox, PLEASE update so that, like in Customization Screen & Adventure Mode Map, all 4 wheels' treads point the same direction in races & battles.) - Team Oxide Wheels - Lava Rock Wheels - Neon Wheels - Pastry Wheels - Tag Wheels - Etc.
In Dingo Canyon, when you race through the water section, if you look at the waterfall on your left you'll sometimes see the Bandifish from the Warped Dino levels flop down like Magikarp. Also, in Papu's Pyramid, when you head up the ramp leading to the U-turn right before the finish line, look very closely to your left and you'll see a green pipe. Given the abundance man-eating plants in this stage, it's obviously a reference to Mario's Piranha Plant.
one of one of my favourite Easter eggs is the man eating plant in papus pyramid with glasses in front of a chalkboard, teaching his kind how to eat racers
The Pharaoh Cortex and female figure on the walls of Twilight Tour are actually taken straight from Crash Bandicoot Warped; those images coated the walls of the game's Egyptian levels.
I was thinking about something. Would you like to do a video talking about crash in smash? Maybe you could talk about the stage, the possibility for him to be in the game
Everything has always been flipped in mirror mode races, regardless of the game we're talking about (see mario kart) - it's much easier to just flip the display and the left/right inputs on the joystick than it is to fully model and render a flipped version of the map. It's not an easter egg
Funnily enough, I actually looked around Cortex Castle, Tiny Arena, as well as Turbo Track and Slide Coliseum just to see some easter eggs. I liked the stained glass in Cortex Castle. Tiny Arena had the Track Signs and Nitro Kart Team Kart signs as well as an advertisement for Wumpa Whip with Element 117. Turbo Track and Slide Coliseum shared individual garages for the base roster. Turbo Track itself has a very weird picture of Chick and Stew and *massive* humans. Slide Coliseum has those noticeable Japanese style art for the Trophy Girls and very awkward spectators, a fat lab worker and a midget lab worker that kinda has Cortex's head shape that are copy-pasted in the crowd.
There is way more than that... some few examples: - Scarface reference (Hot Air Skywar) - Piranha Plant school (Papu's Piramid) - Crash 2 and 3 robots (N-Gin's Labs) - Zam-looking aliens on the "coliseum" (Hyper Spaceway) - Lab Assistans "Pit-Stop" guys referencing an old CTR promotional art (Turbo track) - Potoroos maknig a deal with Lab Assistants on "EATS" (Dingo Canyon) - Baby Cortex and Coco Cortex (Cortex Castle) - Penguin Disco Party (Polar Pass) - Chickens in ALL of the tracks
The only one new to me was the singing fish and that the "naked" Lab Assistent is standing there. But that they are Robot we saw in Crash 3, were they got build and Warped in their worlds. Also this female hygroglyph is also fom Crash 3. I guess Naughtydog just made her without a big reason, VV put her in N-sane and Beenox in CTR
I love that it’s the Dragon for Wrath of Cortez, and yeah, Lizards and Wizards is the only good part, probably because of the music 2:20 Egypt Queen confirmed
I was all excited about number 1 and it was just about how mirror mode acts like mirror mode. Um.. thanks? Thats how it always is they just flip the screen....
they honestly should have referenced skylanders superchargers in some way since it's another racing game published by activison maybe a poster of spitfire or something like that
Here's another curiosity I noticed yesterday, when you make a trick jump, all characters do some kind of funny/cool single animation (like how Crash lifts his feet) but the Nitro Squad (Tawna, Ami, Megumi, Liz and Isabella) can perform 2 when they're in the air long enough, for example, Tawna would look directly at you and send a kiss while Liz will make a gesture with her right hand, it caught me by surprise so I tried with Crash and Coco to see what else they do during high jumps/long falls and it was just their single classic animation... You can try it in Hyper Spaceway first big ramp. It is probably not a secret to many fans at this point because I've only played for like a month but it is curious that those girls can do it
also, in crash cove, when you drive past the galleon, the soundtrack mixes an accordion into the theme song.....amazing detail really. Not sure but i think this happens in other tracks as well!
yeah in the ps1 version of crash warped you can see the lab assistants being assembled and distributed to different levels in the secret warp room. dunno why that was omitted from the n sane trilogy.
I'd like to see one small but important detail adjusted for the sake of perfection, since Beenox really cares about the details and honest recreation, the Opening Music of the game, you know when the characters smash their way out of the box, it shouldn't be the Race Victory theme but its own thing, the actual theme music of the original CTR..
*"Crash Team Racing Is So Jam-Packed With Easter Eggs, References, And...Well General Awesomeness!"* *shows King Chicken on an awesome looking kart* I couldn't agree more! 👏😄😁👍
I noticed a few stuff in the levels like -Cortex Castle is a mix of Crash Bandicoot 1's castle levels and Crash Bandicoot 3 Pura/Coco levels as you can see the different era enemies as well as the great wall of china in the background being one of the main ones
Mirror mode just mirrors the camera. That's why TNT and Nitro crates have their font backwards. It was easier to just flip the screen than it would have been to change animations, models, textures, and, of course, entire tracks.
You can also see, not just baby cortex (a now playable character) but also coco cortex in cortex castle, which I think would be a funny character to play as in the future
About that last fact: the way the mirror mode is done is that the screen is completely flipped (aside from the hud). They then just inverted the controls.
I have NEVER seen the Game Over screen from the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled UNTIL NOW!! Oh Beenox, YOU SLY COOPERS!!
8:49 I wouldn't call this an Easter egg more than I would a good design choice by Beenox. It **is** mirror mode, after all, so it makes sense that EVERYTHING gets flipped.
Terminator Lab Assistant better be a Legendary Skin for Lab Assistant. Lol Also, another Easter Egg or Attention to Detail is that when you have flames coming from your pipes a while boosting, they get extinguished when driving through water.
The "female figure" in Twilight Tour is the Egyptian goddess, Bastet; probably included to give the hieroglyphs more "oomph" in looking legit, while also keeping the cartoon animal feel. It's also possible she was included as a nod to a dev's pet or something, I've met a lot of mythology nerds who named their cat things like "Bast" or "Bastet".
In Mystery Cove after the 2nd Lap. There's a Giant Chicken that comes out from a Cave on the left side, at the beginning of the race from the first jump of the turtles.
You brought up the characters appearing in one form or another in previous tracks being a tease towards their actual return in a future track but you didn't bring up King Chicken and how his debut was being teased towards by the many chickens that appear in the many tracks of the game.
"Pasty's Patches" *"He Is A Reference To A Previous Myth That The Fans Had Cooked Up By A Mistake Based On A Legend Named Fasty, But Mixed Up With A Character Named Trippo...There's A Whole Backstory, And It's A Bit Confusing, But Extremely Interesting."* You can say that again lol! 😂😂😂
@@oppaarby he is found right after the first turn in dragon mines up on the left hammering at some gophers. Although now that I look closer at him, his shirt has a faint plad pattern but his overalls, shirt, and overalls have a bright color to them still.

Just let the guy keep finding out what else is flipped. Maybe the shoes of some random character are also flipped? What a coincidence
Came here to say this - would be more interesting and Easter egg-y if ONLY the tracks would be remade...
Maybe it's just me but the singing fish sounds like it's replicating the sound of collecting a crystal?
That's what I thought it was too
i cant hear it lol.
Same here...
You forgot to tell that there is at least one chicken on EVERY track
Chickenati Confirmed.
That is something that most people know and to be honest all that he list in this video was new for me.

i agree
The “game over” is just brilliant it think! How did I never see this before?!!
You were too busy powersliding and Air braking
Humblebragging about how good you are at Cortex Castle
I literally had no idea that Game Over window even existed on Cortex Castle until now.
'Penguins on Blizzard Bluff", that's because it's Penta's home track 😅
Theres so much love in this game. Just the fact that penta penguin has his placeholder "penguin yay 1" easter egg voice line shows beenox really do love the original and wanted a remake as much as we did
My favorite Easter egg is the "Penguin Yay 1" Quote when unlocking Penta Penguin in Nitro Fueled.
I just learned (or re-learned) that ninja penguins are the main enemy in Tag Team Racing hub world. And we have Ninja skin for Penta in Nitro Fueled.
About the Lab Assistants, there's the secret warp room in Crash Warped, where you can see the Lab Asses' assembly line, transporting into a "disguise" machine, and then into a warp to other levels (in N. Sane, this include levels from CB1 and CB2 if I remember correctly).

That terminator reference was hilarious. I never noticed that!

One awesome detail in this game is that every kart has a different horn sound. To here it press the item button when you have no items equipped :)
You forgot the super mario reference in papu pyramid (in a pyramid before the last shortcut)
Terminator Lab Assistant better be a Legendary Skin for Lab Assistant. Lol
Also, another Easter Egg or Attention to Detail is that when you have flames coming from your pipes a while boosting, they get extinguished when driving through water.
Woah really nice video man, I didn't noticed most of these Easter eggs.
Hey loved the video...! But you missed the most awesome one, search for the Dingo Canyon easter egg...!
In Mystery Cove after the 2nd Lap. There's a Giant Chicken that comes out from a Cave on the left side, at the beginning of the race from the first jump of the turtles.
The beenox logo is in dragon mines just before the starting line but some of y'all probably knew that
You brought up the characters appearing in one form or another in previous tracks being a tease towards their actual return in a future track but you didn't bring up King Chicken and how his debut was being teased towards by the many chickens that appear in the many tracks of the game.
Didn't know about #3. Awesome!
"Pasty's Patches"
*"He Is A Reference To A Previous Myth That The Fans Had Cooked Up By A Mistake Based On A Legend Named Fasty, But Mixed Up With A Character Named Trippo...There's A Whole Backstory, And It's A Bit Confusing, But Extremely Interesting."*
You can say that again lol! 😂😂😂
You forgot to mention the Super Mario pipe in Papu's Pyramid, just before the last big ramp shortcut :)
There is actually a reference to super Mario in this game
In papu pyramid there is a green pipe and a mushroom to the left of it
This game FEELS so good to play.
There is also a Mario Lab Assistant in Dragon Mines.
@@HypercomboProduction where is that? I need to know
@@oppaarby he is found right after the first turn in dragon mines up on the left hammering at some gophers. Although now that I look closer at him, his shirt has a faint plad pattern but his overalls, shirt, and overalls have a bright color to them still.
And he has the mustache.
