Excellent work Jason..now if only beyerdynamic had these in bluetooth wireless it would most likely outperform most if not all wireless headphones out there currently on the market 👍
I haven't heard any Beyerdynamic headphones but they look like an engineer designed them rather than a bean counter, I like them. Thanks for the tear down.
Yes they do seem to put a lot of thought into durability and making them user serviceable. They were doing it long before "right to repair" was cool ;)
hey there. thanks for this detailed video. it seems like the drivers of the 900 and 700 could fit in either of the housing, right? due to different circumstances i might give it a try since the resell value of my 900s is pretty low since the heave a lot of marks of usage and me now needing a closed instead of an open back headphone … the sound profile will probably suffer but it should still be a decent headphone, right?
Yes the DT700 and DT900 drivers are interchangeable without the need to re-solder anything. If you are handy with a soldering iron, DT770, DT990 and most of the larger beyers will also fit the same drivers.
My biggest complaint with these would be that the cups could use some dampening, any slight touch or scrape on them is pretty loud, and the cable is somewhat microphonic. I'd certainly be interested in a mod kit for these!
The only complaint I have with the DT-700 Pro X is the pleather head band falls apart every 6mo. or so. They are not easy to find as the Beyerdynamic website says they are sold out all of the time. 😡
I have an odd question: does the old headband fit with the yokes on DT700? I'm asking because I have a pair that has the top part broken and I can't get a replacement.
My right ear has just stopped working, tested with a multimeter and it seems to be the bow connector as there is no connection between the black cable in the left to the right ear. Do you know where I might be able to find a replacement bow connector and if so how hard would it be to replace? Thank you in advance!
It seems unlikely but not impossible. You can contact beyerdynamic and see if they sell it separately, if not then you will just need to find some 2 core wire the same thickness and make your own
I got my first set of cans from Beyer this week (DT 770 Pro 80ohm) and I'm blown away by them! First set of closed backs (apart from my Bose QC45 Lawn mowing cans). So good for the money. They feel like they could be blown up and still be in one piece. Only complaint is the cable not being detachable. I wonder if anyone makes a mod kit to customize my cans with a detachable cable? ;) ;) ;)
Lol.. Yes someone should definitely make a detachable cable mod for them. James wants to do a destruction test on the DT770 vs HD25 - dropping them off buildings and things to see what it takes to kill them.. It would probably make a good video
if i could suggest is to if possible return the 770's you just bought what you pay to have the 770's customised would be better just buy the newer updated 700/900 seris,i bought a customised pair of the 770's a couple of years ago & their work is excellent highly recommend them :)
I am looking forward for the next review, really wondering if swaping that thick filter on the front of the drivers for other one more thin, for example the one used on the 770 will bring back the highs and open the stage similiar to the 770. Will you try that please? For some experiments I made with my 770 and tried to add more layers in front of the driver to reduce that harsh treble, as more thick you go, more the sound starts to look like the muffled characteristic of he 900 prox, which I tried already (and didnt like). Wondering if doing the inverse would bring magically the sound detail and stage, but with the additional benefict of beeing a new modern driver. I will actually do it soon and I will let you know, because my brother has the 900, so I will test it.
well, I just did it, inow the 700 pro X sounds superb, I love it. Magically all the highs come out and also mids. Surprisily they have more High Spectrum then the 770, and still keeping the tigh and definided bass as with the original foams. What I did was removing completely that thick gray circle foam in the front of the drivers and replace it with other one thiner. When I compare AB with the 770, this ones are clearly more v shape, the 770 have more low mids but surprisely less highs, and in this ones the mid highs are superior and in general all frequencies are well defined and separated. Encorage everyone to try it, its very simple to dismount and replace. For my genre, Electronic music I love the signature and the kick and bass punch its so more satisfying to listen to, and now, why Beyerdynamics take this bussiness decision of shipping it originally that way, its still a mystery for me, because the drivers are littery a much more advanced and better technology then the 770 990 series. By the way I am using the dt 770 pro 80 ohms.
I am having so much fun with it as I long time dont have listen to dace electronic music so good as I am experiencing with theese. I srongly encorage you to try the tunning, and let us have a mod kit for the 700 pro x ones, I will buy, if you got it right, because can sound really top class with a right tunning, man. Thank you. I am using home made kitchen towel with foams of older headphones to do it, I wish I could have a professional one to use.
some days latter I am back to the origina ones, this sound so good. I am not able to do a proper tunning filter with home made stuff, so I am using the originals. I wish you could make ones still more thin, but mantainning the same concept as the originals, keeping the inner smaller circle thicker then the rest. I was having a little bit of extreme mids so I decided to give a go to the beyrdynamics engenneers solution, well I understand now, GREAT JOB Guys.
@@gjokaledjon2 IT DOESNT work, the way the drivers are made need that kind of foam to balance it out, i tried and they sound very agressive in mids and highs without it afterall...I tried other homemade mods and nothing worked, the original are the best sound fit. I wish Beyerdynamics would realease a second alternative pads, but with homemade foams and material no way... they sound perfect to my ears original as it is...
my system bow is damaged... check whole internet, there is no replacement system bow for dt 700/900 pro x! What the f...even on official store. Bow only for old models like 770 pro... Do you know where to buy system bow for 900 pro x?
They normally don't list it on the website until they have sold a few. Contact beyerdynamic directly and they should be able to give you a part number and a price
Is there a way to remove the yolks from the cups without destroying those little black plastic pieces? im looking into modding these to fit an audeze headband but dont want to permanently destroy them
Hi man! PLEASE help me.. I've entered a audio rabbithole. AKG K371 or Senheiser HD569? I like to listen Hans Zimmer and M83 type of music. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 😄
I am rubbish at comparing headphones. The DT700 have better bass extension than the HD25 for certain but I have too much love for the HD25 to give an unbiased comparison
@@CustomCans Thank you very much for your kind response, I just bought some DT700 Pro X, I changed them for another MMX 300, I think I liked these DT700 Pro X better, but as you can see the change was good?... THANK YOU VERY MUCH AGAIN !

How are they well-thought if cannot replace ear cushions with that cloth disk over the driver? There are no spare disks but you can buy spare ear cushions. How smart…
Shittiest headband i ever seen. It is basically ruined on my 10 months old headphones - the plastic that is supposed to hold the inner "replaceable" headband is broken on the right side and doesn't hold anything at all, so it just sticks to my head with a sharp edge every time I try to put these headphones on my head. And that shitty "leather" totally fell off of that inner "replaceable" part because it was *glued* to a 2mm surface area with the shittiest glue they could find. 0/10 quality. 0/10 design. Don't buy this model. My rant is over.
thanks. one should never buy something at this price range without first watching a good teardown.
Lol... I normally get it the other way round... I buy expensive toys in order to tare them apart to see how they are made ;)
someone needs to do it so that the rest of us can have the good video...
Thanks, I was able to finish my repairs because of this video! Love how easy these are to work on but this video helped a ton!
Glad it helped!
Love to see teardowns of headphones
Also great to see measurements of various things
Thanks, i really enjoy doing them

Get the Beyerdynamic MMX 150 third party headband instead. Those are super cheap and they fit perfectly, the quality’s the same.
The driver is called the stellar 45 so it would make sense to be 45mm.
Makes sense ;)
