Tonally they're pretty much THE best closed back headphones out there. They have the most ideal Harman curve of all closed back headphones if you like this type of sound. The build quality is the only concern, they're not durable.

I feel like there won’t be a dt 800x because the dt 900x is like an in between of 880 and 990 signature. Mayb they should have called it dt 890x instead.
Got both the hd560s and dt900 pro x for Christmas. I enjoy both of them for different reasons. Overall I think i prefer the dt900 pro x for most genres of music because of the bass and fullness. I still find them much more detailed than my old hd599 and the soundstage is still decent. I think I prefer the hd560s for classical music and gaming because of the detail and sound stage.
I tried many headphones today which include the dt 990, dt 900, dt 1990 and hd 650 (with proper dac/amp in musicstore). Out of the box the dt 900 sound best in my opinion. The dt1990 were a touch better in soundstage and bringing things subtly, but were incredibly harsh, for me it wasnt just around the 8khz but the entire high frequency range. To me, for my kind of music (lets say tech house, techno, trap instrumentals, dubstep and hardstyle), dt 1990 were not more detailed than 900. So it was most definitely not worth 200 euro's more, especially if you need to eq it or buy custom filters/pads. Also dt900 easier to drive was convience for me not buying headphone amp but running it straight out of audio interface. Ended up buying dt 900 for mixing and mastering, I think they sound crazy good for the experiences i've had. In the end if possible, I would recommend trying out a lot headphones if possible to make the best purchasing decision for you. Also please dont kill me for having an opinion
Interesting. I found the difference in detail to be huge. Soundstage was also better on the 1990. Yes the beyer peak is there and you should eq that. Also I highly recommend using the balanced pads instead of the analytical ones. So in my opinion the 1990 are better. With that said. The 900 pro x sound very good for its price and i really liked the frequency response out of the box. You just plugged it in and they were fine and enjoyable. Gaming also great with these. In contrast to the review though I really cant recommend the 700 pro x. They dont have the advantages of the 900 pro x (frequency response, soundstage) and are just always lacking that detail.
Right now, my daily drivers are these and the Shure SRH 1540s. Perfect compliments for me. The Shures are wide with excellent midrange detail, but also very relaxed. Not fast and a little looser in the low-end. The 900x are tighter in the lows, nimble with a more “solid” presentation, just not quite as detailed. Frequency response wise they are both “neutral” enough and well balanced for the work I do. I think the 900x are more fun and the Shures are more analytical.
Was interested in trying the 900 Pro X, I have the Tygr’s, I guess i wont bother if you say the sound is too dampened and has less sound stage. I mostly play games but listen to music on occasion

TYGR 300R for its Imaging and overall use, HD560s for its soundstage and imaging along with clarity, or DT 900 Pro X? For 80 percent comp gaming at the highest level and 20 percent hifi audio listening, primarily well produced detailed EDM. I already own the TYGR and love them, just feels like they lack abit in clarity for music and could have better comp gaming from either 900 pro x or HD560s
I've compared the TYGR to the 1990 and my shp9500 and found them dreadful for gaming. Way to mudddy and bass boosted. I can imagine why people find them nice for bass heavy music and immersive gaming but for CS:GO and Apex (i.e. competitive shooters) the Philips were much better.
Hey DMS, do you feel that the 900 Pro X is a good buy solely for console gaming(specifically the PS5)? I own the DT 990 32ohm version, and though they are a bit bright, I find them amazing on games like Horizon Forbidden West. How would the 990 Pro X fair?
How do you feel this works for gaming with an emphasis on immersion and fun? I'm currently looking to try both the 900 pro and the Zeus. Do you feel the 900 pro would offer a more warm and fun gaming experience than the 560s?
Been using one for a month now! They are soo immersive and imaging is really good but like all the reviews said it brings the flaws on music. so games with really bad music tracks will sound meh.
I have the tygr and had the mmx100 neither are great just good or okay for gaming now are these any better my best head set was the turtle beach seven pro best sound separation specially at gun shots & position.
The first thing I noticed in the 700 pro x was it's lack of detail. But that allows me to listen to anything, all day, with no fatigue. They're cozy and they let me game in isolation with my ludicrously loud family around me. I think I'll keep them alongside my 560s and Sundara.
Badseed tech has mentioned that tygr is still the best possible option for gaming in his 900/700 review (as long as you dont mind the undetachable cable) you should check out his videos, he points out a lot of things for audio in gaming
Hi. How do you think the 48ohm impedance on the DT 700 Pro X will handle the 12 ohm output impedance on my source? Will use it on a guitar modeller with the mentioned output impedance and an audio interface with a 10ohm output impedance. Been really torn between the Pro X and the DT 770 250ohm for weeks now. Help.
I almost bought the 700 pro x until you said no to audiophiles. I do absolutely zero studio stuff. I am looking for a good CLOSED BACK headphone for music and games in this price range though. 🤔🤔
Between these two and the k361/371 which would be the most natural sounding for voiceover monitoring? No singing or instruments, just speech. Thanks Doug. You've not steered me wrong yet.
I have a pair of Yamaha HS8s in my recording studio, when I monitor on these and put my DT700 Pro X on, the sound stage and the EQ curves very similar, and this is a first for me, I was going to go for the 900 Pro X but decided on the 700 Pro X. Im glad I did. They are comfy, built like a tank, all parts changeable and over all a good sound, but what's more, its also tells you when a mix sounds shite, and being a musician, mixing engineer, producer etc, they are good for what they are. Coming from a pair of ATH-m50x, these are soooooo much better, I think the Audio Techika are over hyped, these have much better bass, and generally a warmer sound, less brighter and a better natural sound.
What a great comment~ I want to reconfirm that I am a gamer~ mainly used in the three aspects of games~~ movies~ music~ and I already have HD560S, do I need to consider DT 700 and 900 proX?
if dms says it's worse than hd560, which in itself is a class or two below hd600, not to mention the 650 (all of which the dms himself failed to notice) , it's likely a POC compared to the venerable 6** series.
@@laicphk mate I hate to break this 2 you but headphone "soundstage" is a ridiculous concept coined by clueless 'audiophile' dumbasses and their ilk. With headphones the objective truth is this - less 'soundstage' = more goodness.

I'm in a similar boat deciding between the HD 560s and DT 900 Pro X as I want to try open back, from the research I've done it sounds like the 560s are fully open back with more detail while the 900 Pro X is semi open back with more bass which I see benefits to both depending what I'm listening to. I'd probably be getting a Fiio K3s to run them out of which feels like a little bit of a waste to just use with 120 ohm headphones hence part of the reason I'm looking at DT 900 Pro X plus the build quality looks much nicer though I'd probably have to order them from Australia as nowhere in New Zealand sells them unlike the 560s... I'm quite split right now.
First of your videos I've seen. Immediately subbed when you mentioned your plugs, I'm at an inch and it's over-ear and on-ear impact can be very annoying. Glad you thought to say something about that!
Having the DT900 Pro X and, sundara, DT1990 PRO, 560s, (etc) I highly disagree with the detail part. The DT900, have a ton of detail, it's like DT1990 pro and 560s had a baby. Paired w/ a proper amp, has amazing detail, both in highs and sub-bass.
Yup I agree. 900 Pro X has really nice detail, I’d put it above or around the Sundara level. And it’s surprisingly smooth. Only issue I had was the comfort, which is unfortunate considering it sounds great.

In this case, he means the cloth like material in front of the driver. In my experience, all Beyers use a little too much of that to tame the highs. It makes the sound blunted or soft compared to actual open backs. With then new Beyers it seems they've used even more dampening material.
Think of it as tuning speakers by putting drapes over them or something. That would make no sense but for headphones it's a "cheap" way to tune certain aspects of the sound.
I have the SONY7506, they are good but the cup is too shallow, which makes my ears hurts sometimes. SO which would be better to replace SONY? 900 or 700?
I am having this weird issue when im using the dt700 pro x. I’m getting this electric noise kinda like rapid clicks and pops pingponging in the headphones from time to time. I am using my dt700 with an audio interface (presonus audiobox itwo) which is connected to my MacBook Pro m1 2020 through a powered usb hub (caldigi element hub)
I doubt Beyer would discontinue those legendary headphones. They all have a dedicated following and still sell extremely well. And from the reviews neither of these can do what the DT 990 and DT 880 are praised for.
Plan to replace my hd650 with the dt900! The 650 have made my mixes a lot better but is so unplesant to listen on (to me). I deffinetely feel like I'm gona miss the detail and tighter bass but these just seem to fit my taste in tuning, fit and statig so much better!
Would you recommend the 700/900 pro x for gaming or other beyerdynamic headphones? I play mostly Roleplaying games or Shooter. Thank you very much for the video
I have the DT 700 PRO X and I'm using it for listening to music and playing PC games. My amplification stack is the Schiit stack (Modi 3+ and IEMagni). I play RPG, MMO, and FPS games and the DT 700 PRO X doesn't disappoint me, even one bit. This is subjective, because each person's hearing capability is different, but to my ears, the DT 700 PRO X sounds excellent. Despite it's closed back, but the soundstage and directional audio clues are quite phenomenon. In BF1, I'm still able to detect footsteps, screams, explosions, and gunshots comfortably. When it comes to Guild Wars 2, the slight-boosted bass adds some epicness to the sound, makes the game more fun to play, without overwhelming details and conversations. Of course, there's no Beyerdynamic's harsh trebles here, just smooth and engaging sound. Kinda reminds me of the Sennheiser HD 6XX, but with boosted bass. Hope this info help.
Hey @@e234darkrock, I also have the HD 560S in my possession. Comparing to the DT 700 PRO X, the HD 560S sounds airier and more open. The HD 560S also has more details, but, to my ears, not by much. I'm talking about 10% (max) and mostly subtle details, not the important ones. This happens to me when I use the HD 560S for gaming, when I crank up the volume in order to hear footsteps, gunshots, and other audio effects better, not only they sound pretty harsh, but everything is no longer directional and distinctive. It's like I'm in a pit at a rock concert. I don't have that issue with the DT 700 PRO X, I think it's because of the closed back, so whatever is on the left-hand side, will stay on the left-hand side, the same for the right side. I hope these descriptions help, and again, these are my opinions and what I hear through my ears. Your mileage will vary. I'm also thinking of buying the foam discs of the 1990 PRO and try them on the DT 700 PRO X to see if they'll help with adding more details and airiness into the overall sound signature and balance out the lows just a tiny bit more.
@@QuangFarrellNguyen Thank you very much for the commentary that you agreed with. In terms of the game, do you think 700 is better or 900 is better? Is it a big upgrade from hd560s to 700/900?

I'll definitely let you know how it sounds, compared to the 700 PRO X. My preliminary prediction is that it will have the imaging of the HD 560S, slightly more sub basses, slightly more trebles, while the midranges is somewhat similar. If you're playing games in a semi-noisy or downright noisy environment, the 700 PRO X will be your best bet. Hello thank you for the review. I have a question please. I am relatively new to world of HiFi. I am planning to buy 900 Pro X for listening to my audio. I like headphones that provide wide open soundstage which to me is the opposite of headphones that provide an experience like the sound is coming from inside your head. How are the pro 900x in that regard? Can I expect a sound like I'm listening to speakers instead of headphones? Thanks
What's up, these DT 700 Pro X have to be burned in BEFORE?, if so, how long would I have to burned in them?, any recommendations? ..... thanks and GREETINGS!
Just curious did you end up noticing a difference after burning in or using them for a while? I thought burn in was kinda bs most of my life, but these have gotten noticeably better after using them non stop for about 2 months. I have the 900s though.
Where can I see the lack of detail on a graph? I have both and I don't notice lack of detail with them. That is compared to HD600 and Sundara, but I also have higher end headphones and IEMs like IER-Z1R, ThieAudio Monarch, Denon D9200 and Focal Utopia, so I have heard enough to know what detail is. No, these Beyers don't match a Utopia in detail, but for their price, they are not lacking it at all IMO. And like I said, how do you measure detail anyway? How can we prove something is more or less detailed? Both DT900 and 700 are great in terms of distortion, impulse response and decay across the board - check the measurements at DIY Audio Heaven. Isn't that the best objective evidence we have so far of detail? I am impressed with the separation of both and both sound subjectively more detailed to me than the K371, which I also own. Or at least they have better separation than the K371 IMO.
The K371 is a closed back. You can only compare it with the 700, but not with the 900. And how does the comparison fall between the 900 and the 880 Edition! ? (please not Pro, because they have a higher clamping force and thus sound a little different again). I asked DIY Audio heaven about the difference between 900 and 880 in terms of imaging, details and analytical(I listen to 80% classical music and soundtracks. These parameters are important to me) and Solderdude replied:"IMO DT 880 is more detailed"... "When you use the DT 880 as is the DT900 might not be what you are looking for. That said, later 880´s are warmer than the earlier ones"(watch out DIY Audio Heaven DT900 pro x comments).
Muddy seems like an inaccurate description having listened to these. the bass is extended and mildly elevated and but not bleeding into the mids in a way that might make them muddy. Sounds like you want an headphone with hyped treble to cut through the bass like the DT770

I feel like there won’t be a dt 800x because the dt 900x is like an in between of 880 and 990 signature. Mayb they should have called it dt 890x instead.
So the Pro line is great for Pros, that's what I like to hear
Got both the hd560s and dt900 pro x for Christmas. I enjoy both of them for different reasons. Overall I think i prefer the dt900 pro x for most genres of music because of the bass and fullness. I still find them much more detailed than my old hd599 and the soundstage is still decent. I think I prefer the hd560s for classical music and gaming because of the detail and sound stage.
What games do you play with them?
Lord what took Beyerdynamic SO LONG to give us detachable cables!! Literally THE reason that kept me from getting the former models.
slowly releasing stuff 1 by 1. thats the way for all dang tech companies.....
Now they have to make some decent comfortable headbands left to make and we'll have what we need xD

Nice video as always! I was wondering how the 900 PRO X compare to the TYGR 300 R for gaming? Both competitive fps and nice RPG immersion.
You might also want to consider the HarmonicDyne Zeus. From everything I've heard it has great positional audio and soundstage.
@@eatscrayons4538 Hey thanks for your input😄, I'll give them a look👍
Hmmm, okay I think I'll go with the TYGR. Great video.
I can imagine why people find them nice for bass heavy music and immersive gaming but for CS:GO and Apex (i.e. competitive
shooters) the Philips were much better.
The video I have been waiting for!!
Hey DMS, do you feel that the 900 Pro X is a good buy solely for console gaming(specifically the PS5)? I own the DT 990 32ohm version, and though they are a bit bright, I find them amazing on games like Horizon Forbidden West. How would the 990 Pro X fair?
DT900 pro x or 560s?
How do you feel this works for gaming with an emphasis on immersion and fun? I'm currently looking to try both the 900 pro and the Zeus. Do you feel the 900 pro would offer a more warm and fun gaming experience than the 560s?

I have the tygr and had the mmx100 neither are great just good or okay for gaming now are these any better my best head set was the turtle beach seven pro best sound separation specially at gun shots & position.
The first thing I noticed in the 700 pro x was it's lack of detail. But that allows me to listen to anything, all day, with no fatigue. They're cozy and they let me game in isolation with my ludicrously loud family around me. I think I'll keep them alongside my 560s and Sundara.

I almost bought the 700 pro x until you said no to audiophiles. I do absolutely zero studio stuff.

These vs the 560s for fps gaming only. What’s everyone use?
I have 900 and hd 560s and prefer the 900 for gaming and 560s for everything else
What are better than these DTs for audiophile in this $300 price range? Thanks in advance.
great video as always, what would be better for gaming at of dt990 pro, 770 pro, 900 pro x or 700 pro x ?
900 pro x are great. 700 pro x definitely not. thats all I can say
Between these two and the k361/371 which would be the most natural sounding for voiceover monitoring? No singing or instruments, just speech. Thanks Doug. You've not steered me wrong yet.
371
How DT900 Pro X sounds compared to HD600 in terms of detail and treble?
if dms says it's worse than hd560, which in itself is a class or two below hd600, not to mention the 650 (all of which the dms himself failed to notice) , it's likely a POC compared to the venerable 6** series.
am using hd6xx and was wondering the dt900 prox can be a step up for gaming especially FPS that requires good soundstage, guess this is not the case..
@@laicphk mate I hate to break this 2 you but headphone "soundstage" is a ridiculous concept coined by clueless 'audiophile' dumbasses and their ilk. With headphones the objective truth is this - less 'soundstage' = more goodness.
@@john2335 oh really? But for gaming Id like to have a headphone that can able to tell me the sounds direction & distance, how should I describe this instead of "soundstage"?
@@laicphk oops I missed the gaming part :D Personally the 650 works better for me than for example the supposed soundstage king hd800 - the latter adds this artificial width to everything that find annoying and not helpful in any way. Ofc in the end it's all a matter of taste so YMMV.
DMS, which would you recommend the most for mixing and mastering music. DT 1990 pro, DT 900 pro X or HD 560s?
560s or r70x or 900x for pop and hiphop?
would have liked to have it compared to 1770 and 1990 not just 770 and 990
So now it's time to watch your opinion on my top hp under 500 euro. Did you listen to the ATH-R70x?
Wow, the 900 pro X tracks the IEF almost to a T.
What is "IEF"?
@@SpiritualPsychotherapyServices the "In-Ear Fidelity" Frequency Response Target. Developed and patented by Crinacle.

Would you explain how the dampening is implemented in manufacturing processes? Like winding the coil in a specific way?
In this case, he means the cloth like material in front of the driver. In my experience, all Beyers use a little too much of that to tame the highs. It makes the sound blunted or soft compared to actual open backs. With then new Beyers it seems they've used even more dampening material.
Think of it as tuning speakers by putting drapes over them or something. That would make no sense but for headphones it's a "cheap" way to tune certain aspects of the sound.
If they ever update the Tygr I hope they leave the signature alone.

I am using my dt700 with an audio interface (presonus audiobox itwo) which is connected to my MacBook Pro m1 2020 through a powered usb hub (caldigi element hub)
Another solid video, but do these replace the existing DT770 and DT900? Or is it just those but slightly tweaked with a detachable cable?
DT770 Pro is really bad. Its treble peak is insane.
I doubt Beyer would discontinue those legendary headphones. They all have a dedicated following and still sell extremely well. And from the reviews neither of these can do what the DT 990 and DT 880 are praised for.
@@allansh828 yeah it is but it sure is comfortable and is great for listening to podcasts and long gaming sessions

@@QuangFarrellNguyen How about comparing with HD560s? Do I need to buy DT 700 again?
@@e234darkrock It really depends on your preference, natural hearing capability, and the surrounding environment.
My 900 PRO X is currently backordered, and it's gonna take about 3 weeks from now for NA Beyerdynamic to ship it to me, so I can't say anything about it yet.
If possible, you can order both the 700 and the 900 and have a good listening session with them. More specifically, 4 to 5 hours.

Ok..being I got the Sennheiser 6xx and Hifiman Diva Pro in my cart trying to decide, where then will the 900 Pro X fit for sound?
