Finally after more than a year a video review IN ENGLISH of the Piaggio BV400hpe or as it is known here in Australia the Beverley, seems like a good comparison with the Suzuki. I loved my BV 350 but the 400 is so much better and a very capable tourer 300+ miles a day is easy. Thanks for an enjoyable review and ride about LA on the perfect machines to do so
Initially I tried a Yamaha Majesty 400, it's comparable to the Suzuki. I settled on a Piaggio BV though as its more scooter like in overall handling and daily use. The motorcycles for everything out of town, for in town Scooters rule the road.... San Diego Cal....
Great video comparing two big scoots. Many years ago I owned a 2009 Burgman 400. It was a great bike and I regret selling it. I seem to remember the under seat storage being bigger. I had no problem using it to pick up a scale of beer. The new one looks like the trunk is smaller.
Just to let you know that a small mistake was done in this video. To put a modular helmet under the seat of the Piaggio you need to loose the helmet and it fits
Great film format 👍 being an English man that's visited La it was great to see some of the sites again but not the traffic ! Suzuki for me. No cookies from cookie monster 🙄 it's almost like father & son having a day out 😂👍
I have new Superbike collection all models both euro and japanese ( euro best in all aspects now)Owed a superbike team ect ect AND a touring scooter for long rides . Traded in my 400 burgman for 400 piaggio as the Piaggio rode so much better down highways and plusher ride around town
The conversation on the scooters is REALLY sharp and clear. Nice! Burns always brings a smile to my face. A fellow curmudgeon of the same era if not the same stature. Not sure which one I would prefer but there is a used BV350 not too far away. Too bad the nearest dealer is over 4 hours distant. I'm in a quandary. Not rich enough for a new scoot but interested none the less. Thanks for stretching your coverage outside your normal categories. With 50+ years experience on motorbikes -- now a scooter is looking good for cheap local fun and games. Don't let Burns retire. It's not as fun as his current job. Wanna trade?
So long as it’s post 2013 don’t hesitate with the BV350. They are a fast, good handling, comfortable, economical, scooter capable of Freeway and Suburban use. You won’t regret buying a BV350
@@garyvandersluis2368 Yeah, it's a 2015 with less than 2000 miles but it's two hours away. He just lowered the price to $3500. Maybe I'll go look at it this weekend. The price still seems kinda high.

@@marscruz It sounds great! My 350 had an Akrapovic can on it and a Malossi variator and I thought they gave me an extra 3hp and a weight saving of about 5kilos. Loved my BV 350. It was in the shop more than I rode it (kept blowing a screw at the top of the engine that would puke coolant) but it was nippy and great in the bends. In hindsight I’d have the Suzuki now, much more comfortable and still rides well.
I had this problem with my BV350, it was an easy fix. The thermostat housing is made of plastic & mounted to the metal head of the engine so in time the heat warps the plastic housing causing the coolant to leak. I simply removed the thermo housing & applied some gasket sealant & never had a problem again 👍
@@cribs4551 Yes they are a very versatile machine. I too sold mine & missed it so I have just put a deposit on another one, Hence why I am watching scooter videos again 🙂
I chose the Burgman over the BV 400 bc I thought the BV looked too much like a big moped. I already have a Vespa Primavera 150 bored to 180cc that looks kinda like a moped. It is quick and maneuverable here in Las Vegas. The Burgman feels much more solid and the first thing I noticed were the 15”/14” wheels vs the 12” Vespa wheels!
Hello. I need an honest opinion on this scooter. I i'm in doubt what to buy between the Kymco, the Honda Forza 350 and the Yamaha Xmax 300. In my country Xciting costs 7500 euros same as Honda Forza 350(7500 euros) while the Yamaha Xmax 300 costs 7800 euros(this price for Japanese scooters because of stupid import tax from outside EU) . I i'm 187cm tall and 105kg, and i wanna buy scooter for in town use work, shopping, go to coffe, but also for longer trips for the weekend with my wife. What would you buy having in mind the comfort, the power, the underseat storage, the suspension, the brakes, fuel consumption and the overall quality of the bikes. What would be your choice having in mind the price as well? I would really apriciate your answer. Thank you
7:00 - do that in the UK (leave them not locked to something solid like a metal post) and when you came back at least one of them and probably both would be gone.
i love piaggio they have more power than any other scooters but a second handd burgman 400 can be foundd for 2k and for that u cant pass on it but whne it coes to new id rather go tmax for that price
Great video guys 👍 and I love Pupusas!! but we need to see more options like a burgman 200, kymco people 150i or kymco ak550 very difficult find reviews of scooter in California
I have had the Burgman and now I have the Bv and for my in my town (Madrid, Spain) is much better the Bv given that it is smaller and can go between cars all day long, besides it has a wet clutch. PD: You can keep a integral helmet into the bike, you just have to look for the right position. Cheers 👍👍
I've been torn between these 2 models and really appreciate both your insights. In the late 80s early 90s, the P200E and Serveta 200 had been my go-to. Now that I'm 50.. having to do repairs all the time isn't as appealing, nor am I looking to cut them down and pimp them out anymore (7 coats of pearlescent on black, larger center tanks and extended forks ..etm). I do want power and reliability afforded to both as these are definitely pluses. I'm getting the feeling that the Bergman might suit my 6'4" frame better though.
Don't knock TC on anything, including a scooter. SE Asia has the rainy season. The rest of the world outside of southern California appreciates ABS and TC on bikes, and yes, even scooters.
I have a Burgman and Yamaha and by far Burgman more comfortable and safer with braking the suspension of the Burgman is more softer and the driving position allows you to drive all day without being embarrassed to drive for the Piaggio that's all the opposite is the driving position 👎 and the fact that it is higher makes it less comfortable and I didn't like the handlebars which force you to lean forward a little unlike Burgman or Xmax where the handlebars come towards you
Yes a scooter is fun to ride i have a 2022 Honda Forza 350 i use mine on these nice Southen roads in Norway very enjoyable along the fjords its the best bike i ever had !!
No scooter tour through LA is complete without cruising through some of the massive homeless encampments. C'mon, boys! Talk about a missed opportunity.
The Suzuki looks very boring compared to the Piaggio. The old long haired man is just a joke, he favours the Suzuki no matter what. Use competent people to test and not half high hippies…….
I'd have to take the Piaggio, even though I try to avoid Italian vehicles. I worked on too many Italian cars in the past and owned 3 Italian motorcycles and am not impressed. But the "lean backwards with my feet way out front" riding position is not for me.
Prefer the burgman 200 than the 400, top speed is very similar but the 200 has much more space under seat “2 full face helmets” But the 400 is far better than the piaggio,

I thought all motorcycle classes taught riders to use the full lane and not to split lanes, as that practice is very dangerous. It's already bad that car drivers don't see, or flat out don't care about riders. Splitting lanes can easily result in disastrous consequences. Let's show the right way to ride responsibly, shall we... For the record, I would opt for the Suzuki based on the technology, ergonomics and style.
Actually, you're wrong. The Hurd report noted that lane splitting is actually safer as you have much less chance of being rear ended (especially important in these days of rampant cell phone use by drivers). States other than California are now allowing lane splitting and filtering, but no-one forces you to do it. I commuted on California's freeways for many years and was only side-swiped two or three times (once or twice deliberately), but never came off the bike and no damage done to the bike. On balance, I think lane splitting is a good thing, but car drivers must be educated to accept it.
Still not on board with the scooter. Especially at this price. Maybe if I rode one I would change my mind. I think for the money a Versys 650 or even a Honda CB500X would be a better value for your money. I will say that you guys do take a good picture.
Depends on what you mean by "value." Way too often riders confuse horsepower/torque/speed as value, where the only thing that matters is how fast you can go or how strong the engine is. This just isn't the value of a scooter. Can you go pick up some food in your motorcycle? There's basically no storage on most bikes, but generous storage is standard on a scooter, and usually enough to fit all your gear. How much maintenance do you need to do on your bike? Scooters frequently only need oil changes and tires, and those tires last a lot longer than sports bikes and never requires chain cleaning. Changing the belt is really easy and affordable. Does your bike come with a center stand? Can you attach a top box to it? Do you have to worry about gear shifting or can you just concentrate on the ride? Scooters value comes from how out-of-the-box useful and easy to care for they are, not requiring extra work to make them that perfect commuting tool and great second vehicle. The word "practical" is a dirty word in American powersports today, but it was why I started.
I thought the same thing. With the help of UA-cam video (there’s several of them) I replaced my own. I’m not a mechanic. All for the price of a belt. I did buy a torque wrench. But I use that all t he time now.
You're probably thinking of the Burgman 650. The 400 is no different than any other scooter. On the 650 the entire bike and engine need to be torn down.

I loved the style of this video. Combination of sightseeing and bike review, what's not to like!? 🙂
Thanks for an enjoyable review and ride about LA on the perfect machines to do so
You missed the homeless camps
Nah...it was just edited out...for 'marketing purposes'...obviously.
Initially I tried a Yamaha Majesty 400, it's comparable to the Suzuki. I settled on a Piaggio BV though as its more scooter like in overall handling and daily use. The motorcycles for everything out of town, for in town Scooters rule the road.... San Diego Cal....
The BV400 is just as capable as a motorcycle out of town too.
Depends on the usage The large wheels do go a long way in the Scooter vs MC gap. @@renwick_ro67267
Did I miss fuel economy, range, weight? Engine and transmission? Capability for more storage ?
Those details are in their website.
www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/showdown-2022-piaggio-bv400-vs-suzuki-burgman-400
Nice to see some scooter love but throwing the X Max 300 in would have been a good idea
Why? You can't buy them...
I was actually looking into getting a Beverly and this video is right on time!
Beverly is outstanding, 350 is best size
Fast fwd to the part about bikes. 10.45
You try to put your hemlet under the Piaggio the wrong way (6:29), try it with the visor point the fornt of the scooter, Believe me it fit.
Great video comparing two big scoots. Many years ago I owned a 2009 Burgman 400. It was a great bike and I regret selling it. I seem to remember the under seat storage being bigger. I had no problem using it to pick up a scale of beer. The new one looks like the trunk is smaller.
the storage space is considerably smaller
Piaggio is the best. Italian makes scouters
@@marscruz Not by my standards, that seems a very reasonable price for a low mileage BV . But the $A is only worth $US.75cents I sold my 2016 BV 350 13000 miles for $A6000 and my BV 400 cost $A12240.Hey you can always negotiate.
@@garyvandersluis2368
I just talked to the guy. He's a truckie and on the road right now. I'll get a chance to look at it in 4-5 days when he returns home. He bought it for his wife and they moved out of the city and it's not much use on his 8 acres in the country now. A new 2022 BV400 goes for $7200 here in the states. He has a Givi trunk with LEDs and an slip on Malossi can that he says saves 7kg. Less than 2000 miles sounds good.
@@marscruz It sounds great! My 350 had an Akrapovic can on it and a Malossi variator and I thought they gave me an extra 3hp and a weight saving of about 5kilos. Just my humble opinion but I don’t think you will be disappointed if you jump. Let me know what you think after you have had a ride and if you buy it. Good luck!
L O V E The scoots, not so much California!!!
@@Reano29s Great tip 👍. I wish I knew, I miss that scoot.
@@cribs4551 Yes they are a very versatile machine.
I too sold mine & missed it so I have just put a deposit on another one, Hence why I am watching scooter videos again 🙂
I love the scooter content. I ride a Lance Cabo 200i. For getting around Sacramento, it’s perfect.
Thank you. Great video!
Great video! More scooter comparisons, please!
Also, I lived in the LA area well over 20 years and never heard or saw anything about the old zoo. That was pretty cool. Historic.
Yo pensando en cambiar mi burgman 400 del 2008 por el bv 400. Que tal va de protección por autovia ?
Great episode! Very underrated
Thank you
7:00 - do that in the UK (leave them not locked to something solid like a metal post) and when you came back at least one of them and probably both would be gone.
is the beverly 350 strong enough for highway trafic to ride with trafic
Very much so!!!
Nice video. But I certainly didn’t see that much traffic congestion. The roads were completely empty for the most part.
Was wondering if you are going to review the scooters riding 2 up. I heard the Burgman is really good with a passenger.
i love piaggio they have more power than any other scooters but a second handd burgman 400 can be foundd for 2k and for that u cant pass on it but whne it coes to new id rather go tmax for that price
Great video guys 👍 and I love Pupusas!! but we need to see more options like a burgman 200, kymco people 150i or kymco ak550 very difficult find reviews of scooter in California
Helmet storage did it for me, hands or actually, seats down!
I have had the Burgman and now I have the Bv and for my in my town (Madrid, Spain) is much better the Bv given that it is smaller and can go between cars all day long, besides it has a wet clutch. PD: You can keep a integral helmet into the bike, you just have to look for the right position. Cheers 👍👍
More people need to ride scooters. Love motorcycles too but for a quick, easy, fun and cheap way to get around you can beat a scooter.
That zoo was depressing AF.
True.
At least most of the graffiti and the very visible homeless population and tent cities were edited out...
I have a Burgman and Yamaha and by far Burgman more comfortable and safer with braking the suspension of the Burgman is more softer and the driving position allows you to drive all day without being embarrassed to drive for the Piaggio that's all the opposite is the driving position 👎 and the fact that it is higher makes it less comfortable and I didn't like the handlebars which force you to lean forward a little unlike Burgman or Xmax where the handlebars come towards you
I smashed the like button and Subscribed. Can you guys review the Kymco AK550i?
Yes a scooter is fun to ride i have a 2022 Honda Forza 350 i use mine on these nice Southen roads in Norway very enjoyable along the fjords its the best bike i ever had !!
Nice video!
Nice video, yall guys should gather some other fellas with scooters and go on a nice long weekend journey 😀
No scooter tour through LA is complete without cruising through some of the massive homeless encampments. C'mon, boys! Talk about a missed opportunity.

Year 2023 Suzuki Burgman 400 will there be a new model coming?
👍nice. I ride my Kymco 400 scooter everywhere
Abs just saved my life 2 day a go in a cold mornong and tight corner. A truck surprised me
Such a great drive through LA
The Suzuki looks very boring compared to the Piaggio. The old long haired man is just a joke, he favours the Suzuki no matter what. Use competent people to test and not half high hippies…….
I'd have to take the Piaggio, even though I try to avoid Italian vehicles. I worked on too many Italian cars in the past and owned 3 Italian motorcycles and am not impressed. But the "lean backwards with my feet way out front" riding position is not for me.
Griffith J. Griffith...the J stands for Jriffith.
What’s TC?
Pupusas! Nice lol More scooter episodes please
Prefer the burgman 200 than the 400, top speed is very similar but the 200 has much more space under seat “2 full face helmets”
But the 400 is far better than the piaggio,
Bought a BV today 😃
Which song used in background?
I have a BV 350. It has speedo error of about 10% high.
This so interesting i do like the journey.. throughout LA...it was magnificent 👍🏻😃💯
If its about motorcycle or a tour guide.. this is it... absolutely love it... I think this Channel should do more often a tour like this .... thanks guys....i fo appreciate it,💯👍🏻🌴
Great Review... Would be good to reviews of the Yami and BMW too. Keep it going
BMW little storage space.. it's a Kymco engine made in China with BMW stickers for BMW price . Taiwan engine made in China by Loncin
@@karlbel4992 Not a first for BMW. The Xmax is pretty interesting 🤔
@@ONEly-uc4et That's true. I use Forza 350 white 2022 just for hobbies. I agree Xmax and Forza are the best choice for me. ADV only for passion Forza for reason. The 2 best sellers in Europ Forza and Xmax. In Thailand Forza Forza and Forza.
La looks like it sucks to ride any kind of two wheeled vehicle.
Actually, it’s quite fun! I’ve been doing it since 1989.

Love my honda helix scooter. 250cc.and my honda reflex 250cc. 70 mpg. Whats not to love
John Burns looks like a Gang Member and has a cool name too
I have owned a Piaggio x8 250 and a couple of burgman 400. I would recommend the Burgman 400 as it is better for short and tall people. Piaggios are not as well made my x8 engine was in the throws of dying after 25000 miles my burgmans have done over 50000 each.
A 400 engine will be a lot less stressed than a 250 at highway speeds, so...
My mistake a Maxie Scooter
Pleasant video .Here is Honda Forza 350 2022 white color with topcase in Belgium 70miles SE Brussels .. Greetings
Still not on board with the scooter. Especially at this price. Maybe if I rode one I would change my mind. I think for the money a Versys 650 or even a Honda CB500X would be a better value for your money. I will say that you guys do take a good picture.
Try one. You will b surprised.
I rode a burgman 400 yesterday for the first time and love it. Now looking at getting one to tour up to Scotland on.
@@neilwiddison6529 You r going to love it.
@@ezekieloruvenAll very true and twist n' go scooters are just much more fun to ride.
Both riding scooters around LA is like carnivores goes on vegan diet😜. But video is too good❤️ to miss.
When the drive belt goes out on the Suzuki it is big bucks to fix.
Cliffy the postman!
