    Over Wright 210 + kg...over priced. Honda adv 350 or forza better bet.owned 2 . Runs out of puff after 60 mph hardly updated since 2017. Never any finance offers. Needs another 5 bhp. Hardly progression when the previous version had 64 litres of capacity and 33 bhp. A £6999 there having a laugh

    There only ever was one maxi-scooter for me, and that was the Burgman 650 for it was miles better than the Silverwing and all of the others. Unforunately, serious ill health and old age combined , forced me to drop to the 400 in 2019 - the 650 now being to heavy for me. It broke my heart to p/x it for the 400, but that's life.
    The 400 does suit my physical conditions, although the difference between the two bikes is chalk and cheese, and it took me a while to get used to the lighter bike.
    It can be a little skittish, and for me, the power of a 400 should be much better than it is - after all, at a top speed of about 90, it does struggle a bit.
    My first "big" bike was the 1998 Burgman 400, and it was a much better bike than the current model, and a bit beefier in styling.
    I don't dislike my current 2018/19 model as it runs well, and covers most of my needs; it's also a very comfortable bike to ride, even on longer journeys. The only thing I DO dislike intensely is the battery compartment now located in the left-hand glove compartment, and totally inaccessible unless you get it modified, which I had to get done by the dealers. That meant having to purchase an Optimate 1 charger, plus a special connector installed with the battery, so by that means, the battery can be charged without the hassle of removing it from the compartment (it fits like the tray of a matchbox, so there is no way to inert your fingers - or even a knife blade to pull it out; and even if you could get that far, the leads to the terminals won't let it move). The only other thing I don't particularly like are the stalk mirrors, although that's just a personal thing.
    It's a great bike for commuting, light and easy to handle, but it could never compare with the 650.
    If I had to buy a newer 400, I don't think I would get the Burgman; the 650 spoilt me for IMHO there is no other bike that compares!

    No, no, no to 'smart' keys. It's far too easy for thieving scrotes to use a reader, and nick a vehicle. Just ask the many car owners who have suffered the theft of their cars by thieves using the above method. I personally, will NEVER buy a bike that uses a 'smart' key. Sod the 'convenience' aspect. I much prefer mechanical locks, there is less to go wrong.

    • @Nooziterp1
      @Nooziterp1 2 роки тому

      Agreed. Convenience? It's rather inconvenient to have your bike stolen.

    • @Nooziterp1
      @Nooziterp1 Рік тому

      @@darcychu9652 When I had a bike, whether a Burgman 400 or anything else, I used a cable or chain lock whenever I left it parked. Preferably to something solid like a lamp post. In fact I used what I called the '30 second rule'. If it was going to be out of my sight for more than 30 seconds it was cable or chain locked. For all I knew there might have been a thieving low-life waiting for me to walk away. I have a theory that because cars are so difficult to steal now the thieving scum are stealing bikes instead because it is easier. Just find one, push it away and deal with things like immobilisers later. And if not just dump it and take another one.

    I just picked up a 2006 Bergman 400 model with only 2500 miles on it. Adult owned and taken care of well. I've been so impressed with its nimbleness and get-up-and-go! It can run 70 mph easily all day and still be able to zoom to 90 mph when you need to escape a dangerous situation. 70 mpg + or - . Goes well, stops well. I have no reason to get a 650, as this does everything I need it to do, and is easy to perform routine maintenance right at home. I'd have to say this is one of the best deals in a used motorcycle/scooter.

    At this weight and HP frankly the now discontinued Burgman 200 performed nearly as well for half the price and nearly 60 kilos lighter. And what dreary, dismal colours. Manufacturers seem to think everything in the world is grey silver or black - great colours for blending into the tarmac and not being seen. It will be reliable however and there'll be plenty of under-seat storage, but this is a backward step by Suzuki.

I picked up my first scooter last month (July) and it was this model only silver. I love it. I should have purchased one sooner (meaning years ago). There's my review.

    I have a 2014 Burgman 400 that I bought new. I am 6’2 and 260lbs. I have made several 800-1000 mile trips on it. It has no problem maintaining interstate traffic speeds. I have added a rear trunk to accommodate extras for travel and groceries. Would recommend it to anyone. I have a full sized touring bike and tend to take the Burgman over it for comfort. I love it.

    I've had one of these for 6 weeks now and I mostly agree with the review done here. The suspension is good on normal roads but when it gets bumpy or on cobblestones you'd wish for better rear end unit. The higher screen sounds a good idea for the taller rider but I'd rather have a Givi Airflow. I don't tear around on mine and average 83 UK mpg 🙂

    ....... The best model of all was the 2003-06 Burgman 400, 34bhp, larger underseat storage, no CO² sensor nonsense or rf chip in the key. Only downside, at least for the bad roads here in Brazil, was the combined brake system, 70% rear + 30% front, it'll have you off very quickly on loose surfaces, mud, sand etc..

    A lot of valid comments about the value proposition being off, but for those of us over 6’4”, the ergonomics of the Burgman are far superior to Honda or Yamaha equivalents. I’ve heard the Kymco AK550 is good also but haven’t tried it.
    Surprisingly, the Piaggio Beverly is also very comfortable but it’s not a true maxi scooter.

    28 bhp? My 2012 Burgman 400 put out 33. Why the drop? Emissions? Plus mine was a bit lighter. I see the underseat storage is well down too. 42 litres down from 62. This used to be one of the Burgman's strong points over its rivals - the cavernous space under the seat. I still intend to get one though. In a couple of years when I retire. Not really practical at the moment. I have had two by the way. - I had a 2006 before the 2012. So I am definitely a Burgman fan!

    I had a 2018 400 Burgman. Coming down from a twin cylinder it felt like a sewing machine; the engine was noisy on acceleration and for a 400 seemed surprisingly lacking in power. Yes it would turn on a 5p piece and overall the ride comfort and handling were good. However that didn't make up for the lack of power. The Honda Forza 300 (actually 270cc) is comparable.

      Agreed. The flat black Burgman 400 as well as the flat black Xmax 300 is what is keeping me from replacing my 2016 Honda Forza 300. I'm not a fan of the red finish on my Forza, but it's better than playing Batman and going stealth at night. Had a white PCX 150 and absolutely loved that pearl finish. That said, I'm really looking forward to "anything but Honda" as I'm so done with that BS re-orientation of the horn and turn signals that, for some reason, Honda thinks makes more sense. After several Hondas, my muscle memory still has me missing the horn when reaching for it in a panic.

    Glad to hear that Suzuki have no added a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles to this solid basic bike / basic price package. 65 miles per UK gallon or 23 KPL is not that bad for a 400 CVT driven bike.
    Smart keys are terrible in my opinion.
    I bought a brand new Tmax 530DX in late 2018 (1,500,000 yen) and am so disappointed with it, that it does not have 2,000 miles on the clock yet. It gives a maximum of 21 KPL ridden very, very gently indeed. I might have been better off with one of these, and would certainly have been better off with a Skywave (Burgman) 650LX at only 1,100,000 yen.
    I commute about 35 miles each way on a Honda PCX150, but a bad back means I need something more comfortable over rough sections of road and in general. You seemed pleased with the Suzuki's comfort, but having a 530 that is a bit too big for commuting here in Japan and then buying a 400 for commuting would be silly. Shame there is only the 200cc Burgman below this in Suzuki's range. Honda Forza250 perhaps?
