Folks who don't like this rendition, think about one big blessing the remake will inevitably give us. With the exposure this game is finally going to get, talented musicians will most likely end up covering this track and many others. We're just at the beginning.
I remember so many years ago when I first heard this song, I played it absolutely nonstop because it was hands down the best track I've heard from any video game. About 10 years later, I'm so happy this song got the justice it deserves, it sounds fantastic.
Idk what it is... the instrument quality is WAY better, but for some reason this version just doesn’t have the same impact as the original... Still damn good, tho
It’s because there’s way more staccato in xcde as a whole I’ve noticed... makes it sound less... idk rich? And then you have mechanical rhythm which has the audacity to both use excessive staccato and straight up go off key at one point AND STILL BE GODLIKE
It's also missing the iconic "whow!" sound effect that used to come in at 0:40. It's a small change, but coupled with the synthetic sounding vocals, the guitar changes and the drums being too weak, it totally kills the song. This version honestly sounds like a fan recreation as opposed to a remaster. The only thing this version has on the original is that the piano is better integrated. Pretty much every remastered battle theme is worse than their original counterparts (except maybe Mechanical Rhythm).
You mere vessels dare to oppose the will of a god? Then I shall obliterate everything with my unimaginable power! Now, behold the true form of a united world!
I don’t want to be your vessel or your disciple! I just want to live my life as a homs...IN A WORLD WITHOUT YOU! Edit: first time hearing the buildup gives me chills
What’s crazy is that the soundtrack of the original REVELS in the imperfection of most of its instruments, which is what kinda gave it more of it’s identity. All these DE versions sound good, but the lack of imperfection in some key points what makes it feel off.
Most of the songs in the original version were synthesized tracks. Ie, computer generated sounds. They lacked "tone" or substance. The remastered songs are actually preformed by an orchestra. You can hear the raw emotion and life in the sounds of the instruments.
I prefer most of this song expect for the part at 1:00 to 1:20 and anytime it repeats. This could just be a me thing, since I’ve listen to the original track way too much. Anyways I think it’s build up for the first minute is beautiful in this version!
Oh a part of me longs to listen to the remastered version of this song right now, but another part wants to save it for when I reach it myself. ... Nope, I’m gonna wait, it will totally be worth it in the end even if it is gonna take over a 100 hours!
Ok... You may not like what I'm going to say but... Am I the only one who prefer the original here ? The very end of the track sounds better here, but I feel like there's something missing for the rest...
To be honest, I don’t like this version very much. It just sounds weird to me. It doesn’t have the feeling of epic scale, intensity, or awesomeness of the original. In the original, the theme made you feel like your taking on a higher entity, like a god. It fits the character of Zanza really well because of him viewing himself as the true god of the Xenoblade universe. Which is ironic, due to him having more comparisons to the Devil than a god. I see Zanza as a Demon wearing an Angel’s skin. The original theme truly captured how much Zanza truly viewed himself as an angelic savior. I’m getting the game tomorrow, so I’m glad to know to turn on the original theme during the boss fight. Last statement: the remix is not horrible. It’s just not as good as the original, and it doesn’t capture the mindset of Zanza as a character.
It feels kind of disjointed, and idk if it's just me but the track feels slower. It doesn't flow together as well as the original. The parts of it are better individually though, especially the vocals.
So unfortunate that in order to gain a stronger intro and louder, crisper pianos, we had to sacrifice *checks notes* all of the guitars and the entire rhythm section
I largely joke, but wow the mixing is weird here. Bless up that the song was so good to begin with that it’s impossible to make bad. This mixing job on any normal track would ruin it.
The main problem is it sounds too electronic. The instruments were digitized from their original recordings instead of a straight MP3 file. You can tell this from the vocals, they didn’t sound like that in the choir.
StandByGalaxy I honestly disagree. I think the more digitized vocals were an specific intentional choice for just this song, but it’s not a common problem with the other re-recordings. I actually really like how the choir sounds here. It’s so much more creepy and moody.
The piano work is kind of better but everything else in this song kinda... sounds lamer. It’s really hard to describe but this cannot compete with the original. :(
I listened to the old and new version in a row and the guitar didn't sound any weaker to me. Overall i think this song is about as good as the original some things better and others not quite as good. Still an excellent track.
Are the people who love this version just saying so because it's new? I'm asking genuinely, what do you all hear in this? This isn't the worst of all the remasters, but all I hear when I listen to this is hollowness as a result of bad mixing. This lacks so much weight compared to the original.
I’m in total agreement. The mixing on this is incomprehensible. Why are the guitars (bass and 6-string) mixed so low? Why did someone EQ out every frequency under 200 (hyperbole, but it’s bad). Yeah it sounds less compressed, but the basic leveling is so bizarre.
Marco Tewlow exactly my issue. and here’s the thing, this one isn’t even that bad! I think obstacle in our path had the potential to sound SO cool with the new key and instrumentation, but it’s just so empty. It’s like there’s an entire range of frequencies dropped off, especially at the best part of the song around 50 seconds in.
MrStarman926 I’m actually more and more into the new Obstacle as I listen to it. It’s just a different vibe. I do have so pretty big issues with the low-end/guitars of Mechanical Rhythm and You Will Know Our Names though.
Marco Tewlow the main channel that was uploading the remasters just got all the vids taken down, but on that I was leaving comments with my thoughts and basically the trend of “where are the bass and drums” was just sooo reoccurring. and I’m a guy who really likes his rhythm sections lol. Mechanical rhythm has grown on me a bit actually, but I started out as really not a fan
They honest to god enhanced the best song in pretty much any video game ever. Gotta say I’m impressed
Kyle Is rad I’d argue that the best video game song ever is one winged angel from ff7 but this it still pretty good
