I have beaten the game twice now in NG and NG+ and the only thing that I never really paid attention to was the whole fusion combo system. It just tends to happen whenever and I feel that planning the driver combo and blade combo separately is what you want to do anyway rather than always shoot for that fusion combo.

This video is really a testament to the effort Chugga puts into his LP's as well as how dedicated he is to helping people have as enjoyable of a time as possible with whatever game he's doing. He didn't have to make this extra video but he did and I'm sure it'll be helpful to people who might be trying this game out.
@@kitsunelord1533 Especially since he went out of his way to correct an error he made a long time ago in his older LP on a modern bonus video that was simply about methodology. Now that dedication.
Gonna admit that some of this I like that I'm not told about, but I wish had clearer visual indicators. Fusion Combos aren't totally well-explained, but if the boosts you got from doing them were more obvious, like the icon also saying what was being increased, it wouldn't need a tutorial. You'd learn by playing. This game's greatest fault is that it's too intricately designed. A lot of the features you mention in this video are actually great ways of making a player feel good, but because tutorials dogpile you and also fail to properly direct you, players don't properly interact with those systems. It's a shame, but I'm very glad that you're putting it out there. Also, I'm glad Torna generally does a better job at explaining its simplified systems because I take that as them learning their lesson.
I feel with fusion combos they could of made the damage numbers sport a different colour and even a different and tougher looking font which would of gave the player a much clearer visual queue to indicate a fusion combo as it’s something obvious to see but at the same time the game isn’t outright telling you whats going on and expects the player to put two and two together.
A lot of XB2 fans love dogpiling on 1's combat and its simpler mechanics but the fact it doesn't have so many small mechanics inside other mechanics makes it so much more intuitive to develop fun strategies for the whole playthrough. On the other hand, there's 2, which seemingly simplifies everything (movement, arts, even the UI) while also adding layers upon layers of depth without ever explaining anything and it's not hard to imagine players going for slow and sub-optimal strategies, like always going for Full Bursts (that was me btw).
@@Skallva While that's incredibly fair, I gotta admit I see both sides of the coin from the community. People were definitely dogpiling on XC2's combat originally because of all the confusion around it. It goes both ways. But it's fine, because both are good systems anyway. XCX had this problem to some extent as well.
@@Skallva I think this is part of the issue with XB2, just the mechanics within mechanics. You have Driver Combos and you have Blade Combos. But doing a Blade Combo during a Driver Combo gives a boost. Oh, but there's more - hit the + button when you get 3 full bars in the top-left. Don't remember the game telling you about how those bars work, how they fill, etc? Don't worry - I don't remember that, either! I just knew you could use them for reviving when I figured out how THAT worked, but if all 3 are full and you've executed a full Blade Combo, you can now hit + and magic happens! You can now use three Blade abilities. Bonus! If you break those little spheres, you can to a quick time "B" input to get another round! You get to do this each time you break an orb...if they're broken on different rounds, no double dipping 2 in one round. Oh yeah, the game didn't tell you that, either. But if you DO break several in a round, you can get a hyper-fusion combo for massive damage! How do you do that? Well...you need some random common blades with some special skills, or the green haired Blade you got in the story but forgot how to activate - yeah, I forgot, too, but it ALSO uses that party meter (the name of those 3 bars) and has you hold R while pressing the button that is her icon - because she can knock several off at once. Regardless, now you're doing some damage! What's that? You're a bit confused? But we haven't even started talking about equipment, traits, aux chips, accessories, skill trees, the Blade Combo element trees, Poppiswap, or the true end-game that is Tiger! Tiger! Wait?! WHERE ARE YOU GOING!!!?? . Jokes aside, I don't mind complex systems. But would it kill them to update the tutorials? Or hell, at least make it where you could go back and replay/watch them? Maybe add some simple text description help/tutorial thing in the menu where you could at least read about them? Overly simplistic is boring, but too complicated - especially when it's not all intuitive - means people aren't going to pick it all up just by doing, either. And when systems are layered WITHIN other systems, it makes it easy for players to miss. I think I actually discovered the + button orb breaker (not sure the name of it) by dropping my controller once, not because the game told me it existed. Maybe the game told me and I just forgot. I had to look up online how to activate Pneuma because I legitimately forgot when I put the game down for a few months and had no in-game way of figuring it out. And the game is absolutely atrocious at letting you know what stats/abilities are useful to prioritize.

@@archedmash2 This is a three year old joke comment that is a part of a longrunning gag for this channel’s videos that I put a mild amount of effort in. (No spoilers) Quick story: I had access to the final boss door, and was preparing by building up Pyra's skills. Randomly, when I was in Gormott, I got a tutorial out of no-where. When I saw that it was the tutorial for unique monsters, I nearly laughed my ass off that I never actually triggered that tutorial. Just wanted to share this with the world.
I remember getting this game for christmas because the characters looked cool and interesting, just to get confused and overwhelmed about the mechanics of the game. Now im so glad i got this game Thanks emile, dont know how i'll pay you for this
I mean Xenoblade 2 is an improvement over Xenoblade X in the tutorial department in the fact that it actually has them rather than telling you to read the manual (what’s funnier is that Xenoblade X doesn’t take advantage of this to have a quicker pace early on since the first several hours are still slow-paced). Xenoblade 1 does tutorials the best you can in games as complex as this by giving you the information with visual aids and access to the tutorials at anytime. I just hope that we go back to the Xenoblade 1 style tutorial system whenever we get a Xenoblade 3 or X2.
because xenoblade 2 is like ancient greek language, once deciphered, its a glorious discovery, if not you're sitting there pondering like i was at first that is my best guess for what they were going for lol
Because auto attack is the base attack strength for your auto attacks. It can't be named something else when you multiply strength and some other percentages to figure out the strength of arts. In order to know how much damage auto attack does you multiply in the strength bonuses and even core chips etc. Frankly it would be all the more confusing figuring out auto attack when its strength is different from arts so naming it auto attack makes sense. There is nothing confusing about that. Its in the name.
I didn't either. I assumed it was basically what your special was since that space was empty in the menu and 4th move was below due to spacing. I never saw a reason to change the moves around (mostly due to just not even crossing my mind). it doesn't change how fast or slow the cool downs are so there's definitely little reason to. But mostly, I just simply got used to where everything was.
Since the tutorials were so poor and non-reviewable, I got stuck on Chapter 3's boss for _so_ long. Now that Chuggaa's taught me about Pouch Item effects, stutter-stepping and the existence of the Shackle Resist accessories, I beat it in no time and proceeded to steamroll my way to Chapter 6 in record(?) speed. Thanks man, now I can really enjoy this amazing game!
i played the game on release, and i dont even know myself how i beat it with like no information at all (i still dont fully get the battle system), i remember spamming blade combos(?) the element base ones, and forcing fights with the heal/potion arts.
This has helped me IMMENSELY. I'm a new player who got this game only a week ago and I've been both overwhelmed and confused by a lot of the game elements that you went over in this video. This is the most useful video on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I have found, thank you so much for making this.
Before we watch this video, let us praise our lord and savior, *_Chuggaaconroy,_* for creating this tutorial to inform us. Amen. It's nice of Emile to make this video for Xenoblade newcomers. I can see this video being something that people come back to months after the LP's ended, with loads of viewers being thankful for it
THANK YOU! I just got Xenoblade Chronicals 2 and the tutorials where either so long that I zoned out, or so confusing/ misleading that I didn't pay attention whatsoever. This video helped me a lot to understand the game, which I found really confusing.
Here's something that is never explained in the game. The game actually has a range stat. If you are within a certain range of an enemy, you will do more damage. Notice at 1:26 when he's talking about topple, there's a fire icon on the bottom right of the screen. That will actually blink relatively fast repeatingly when you're in the relatively right spot from the enemyl. Things like katanas are simple, just need to be really close. Bitzballs, ether cannon, the Aigis sword, etc are very picky on position and may need to be moved around a lot dpeneding on enemy position to achievce better damage. Sadly, the damage is relatively noticable. Welcome to the Xenoblade Series. Everything you learn is either through a guide or trail and error. You think this is bad, in Xenoblade X, if you had a question, you were referred to the game manual. And even that didn't have everything.
One thing that wasn't mentioned about fusion combos. The effects gained from fusion combos depends on the order the driver and blade combos are inflicted. Inflicting a driver combo, then a blade combo will result in increased damage for the duration of the driver combo stage (when it runs out or when it goes into the next stage). Inflicting a blade combo, then a driver combo will result in additional time for the blade combo timer (you can do this repeatedly, allowing you to stall the timer in case you need to build up your specials).
I don't think that's actually completely accurate, as one of the simplest fusion combo strategies is to trigger a DOT blade combo, usually Volcano since it has the highest DOT damage, then cycle through the driver combos. Having seen this done, every time you use a Smash art, the last stage of the driver combo, the damage dealt by the DOT effect is boosted. I believe the effects of a fusion combo are determined by the "difficulty", to use the term in affinity charts. The stage of the driver combo added to the stage of the blade combo. Since Break and Topple are the most common driver combo stages to get (Launch arts aren't that common and always great and Smash arts are even less common), and its almost impossible to start or progress a driver combo on a stage 3 blade combo (the finisher), most players end up seeing only a 3 or 4 difficulty out of a possible 7. When you do a full driver combo through a stage 2 blade combo like the DOT strategy, you reach a difficulty of 6. I wouldn't be surprised if order did have an effect, but clearly it isn't as simple as "blade then driver boosts duration, driver then blade boosts damage"
I love you man! I'm on about chapter 5. Such a good video. You and Enel are honestly the best source for Xenoblade tips. Though I really REALLY wish Enel or someone would make spoiler free guides like this. Instead of fighting some level 130 boss using a blade I've never seen🙈
Regarding the "nobody has ever got group 5" thing. This specifically refers to Pity Blades, not the seeds themselves. You CAN get group 5's seed, it's just that Groups 1 and 2 both have Group 1's Pity Blades, Group 3 has Group 2's Pity Blades, Group 4 has Group 3's, and Group 5 has Group 4's.
@@otakux6571 Blades in the pity group are still obtainable normally by other seeds. In fact, it might be possible to randomly pull a Blade from your own pity group before you get it as a pity blade, though I'm not sure.
thank you! I thought I knew what chugga meany by "seed" but when he said nobody has gotten seed 5 I was wondering if that meant that there were just unobtainable rare blades

Xenoblade 2 is pretty complex gameplaywise, much more so than the first game. And the best you can do is to screenshot the half-assed tutorial texts. Xenoblade 1 gave us this amazing detailed tutorial menu to shift through but for 2, they never bothered even when updating the game post launch. Torna did bring back the nice tutorial menu though.
For anyone reading the comments, the skill trees of blades is kinda wonky. You have to check the skill tree when the game gives you a message or prompt that it leveled up, otherwise the level up doesn't occur...tutorials being shoddy again. The other thing about the skill tree, the leftmost skills in yellow that were mentioned here occur at random as far as I know, so if you aren't seeing effects in consistent succession, that's why. Hope this is considered helpful, I know you can only condense so much into a 10 minute video
I believe the tutorial actually mentions both of those facts. When it first tells you about the affinity charts, it says that they won't take effect until checked, and tells you to check the affinity chart often. As for Blade Arts, the fight against Malos at the end of chapter 1, if you miss an attack, Pyra will use a Blade Art to boost your chance to hit him and it will tell you about Blade Arts, that you don't get to control them and that they'll trigger randomly when needed (such as when you miss an attack, Pyra might use the Blade Art that boosts accuracy). While they don't give all of the details (Blade Arts are mostly random and the tutorial is skipped if you defeat Malos without missing an attack), they do tell you the gist of how they work
@@Kahadi Interesting, yeah I don't recall either of those, but I'll take your word for it I'd personally just make it level up automatically and if I happen into the next level of progression it let me know. Less time in menus, more time playing the game
Thank you so much Emile for making this I’m sure this will be invaluable for people getting into Xenoblade and you made it possible thanks you everything as always.

@@ricardorunos9782 So far so good. The tutorials in 3 are genuinely helpful and they're really good at explaining the mechanics. @@dragonmaster1500 The tutorials ARE good. My hesitation was because of all the forced 'do this in this exact way', 'equip this', and 'set this art' shenanigans. Could even be a practical exam. 2:02 Wait, when did you get a Beta Scope and Overclocking Bangle? I’m assuming this is from your own LP, and it’s been a few weeks, but I don’t remember you picking either of them up. 3:17 I feel like that should’ve gotten the name of “Strength” and the Strength stat should’ve been named something else. 9:40 For a greater bonus, try to pick Specials that deal multiple hits as opposed to ones that deal one large hit. Also keep in mind the effect of a special as those can also increase the damage done during the overkill (like using a Special that deals increased damage if the Driver is currently targeted by the enemy).
They're fairly late game items, but the Beta Scope I think can be gotten from a DLC quest earlier on. They are critically useful items, though, and he might have wanted to highlight them here for later use.
@@MegabombGamer-rb5kh Possibly. I’m trying to think of points in the Old Factory and Leftheria where you can get those, but again, I know Merc Missions have at least one Beta Scope (though I thought that those are from later ones or ones you get at higher levels) and you can get an Overclocking Bangle from that Nopon who ranks your Salvage Level.
THANK YOU! You don't know how hard I was trying to review information and recall stuff you've said in your let's play as I've been gearing up to give XC2 a second try almost 3 years later. 40 episodes later, and I was like "oh god what did he say about this? What's a fusion combo? I can't remember what that is." But I am ABSOLUTELY thrilled that you made this. I feel so much better prepared tackling the game now
Really glad you put this together. You convinced me to get the game this Christmas when I otherwise wouldn't have touched it, and it'll be really nice to have this video on hand when I do.
One thing i will ALWAYS recommend when people play this game: Try and keep what you want from the AI simple! One of the biggest mistakes i have found i could make in the game, is to have as many combinations of elements, combo skills and roles as i could on every driver! This can work, just like pretty much any setup can work if you really want it too, but to make the AI more predictable, try and limit them to 1 role and 3 elements... Doing this will make sure that they can't switch out of important roles for blade combos, so your Tank doesn't suddenly switch to a Healer for the combo, has ALL the aggro, and gets themselves killed! The AI all seem to suffer from Melia syndrome, where she is really good when you play as her because you can react to situations and make organic choices, but leaving them alone is almost always nothing but a hinderence... Having three roles on a driver but only access to two equipment slots also means you have to sacrifice what one of those roles do, as it's rare for equipment to be helpful to more than one role, and often works against eachothers purpose... If you have a tank, you wanna focus on HP, defense, boosting aggro, block rate and evasion, but that doesn't really help a healing blade, even if it also doesn't activly hurt the role... So i would always advice to have AT MOST two roles on a character, so both roles get at least some benefit from equipment and the role bonusses, instead of pretty much nerfing the third slot for yourself
Hell yeah a spoiler-free Tutorial-Revision Round-Up! Hope this helps all the people out there who haven't played the game yet, y'all deserve the best experience possible.

Yo I'm glad you don't feel depressed anymore. I got depression for a while when I got tinnitus and it was the worst, but then I learnt how to deal with it and I feel much better.
I really just found most out by myself, if only by just reading what pouch items did and just learning Fusion combos gradually. I dunno, I really don't think Xenoblade 2's tutorials are necessarily false or misleading, there's just A LOT the game does and I don't think they could even cover it fully. Hell Stutter stepping I also found on accident, and it just logically made sense as time went on. It's weird, I know a game not explaining things to you is seen as bad no matter what, but Xenoblade 2 I feel must makes it much more satisfying to actually find this stuff out. Plus, the game I don't think NEEDS you to know every single small little intricacy to get by, you can play with a base understanding and I think the game tells you enough. I know I've said this like a year ago, but playing through the game and trying to beat it before 3 comes out...I can't say I'm really struggling and I wasn't really struggling before this let's play even became a thing.
I agree that most of this stuff should be left up to the player to find out on their own. The game shouldn't have to tell you where the best items are, or what the best affinity chart skills are. I think the tutorials explain things well and the only problem is that you can't review them. I also think that pity blade groups and overkilling story bosses are really only important information if you're a speedrunner.
Me who has already beaten the game twice: *_hmmmm interesting_*
Me who has never played the game: hmm this is interesting even though I might not even remember five minutes after finishing this video
Me who has 100% the game three times during quarantine alone is basically that response
Me who has bought the game over a year ago and still never beat it and stopped playing 2 hours in: hmm Interesting
Me has never had any problem with any of the game mechanics and thought everything was explained well
I have beaten the game twice now in NG and NG+ and the only thing that I never really paid attention to was the whole fusion combo system. It just tends to happen whenever and I feel that planning the driver combo and blade combo separately is what you want to do anyway rather than always shoot for that fusion combo.

@@outofthecoral I know I'm making a joke.
XCX had this problem to some extent as well.
if they really learned their lesson they would've added a "tips" menu in the main XC2 menu, like in Torna

Oh boy. Chugga about to *Rex* -tify the bad Tutorials in this game.
Y'know, until I watched this LP, I didn't realize just what a joke the tutorials were.
Or if we ever get Xenoblade X for the Switch, cause I'd love to play as Yuri Lowenthal again on the go.
Torna tutorials were good imo so there is hope imo
Torna tutorials were king.
Xenoblade 1 actually needs tutorials the least as it's by far the most intuitive and straightforward.

We wouldn't want to repeat the mistakes of 2 now, would we?
"Auto AttacK" - why not just name it Attack, Attack Power, or Power like basically every other RPG ever?
I wonder if it's a translation thing or if it's named something like that in the Japanese version
because xenoblade 2 is like ancient greek language, once deciphered, its a glorious discovery, if not you're sitting there pondering like i was at first
that is my best guess for what they were going for lol
Because auto attack is the base attack strength for your auto attacks. It can't be named something else when you multiply strength and some other percentages to figure out the strength of arts. In order to know how much damage auto attack does you multiply in the strength bonuses and even core chips etc. Frankly it would be all the more confusing figuring out auto attack when its strength is different from arts so naming it auto attack makes sense. There is nothing confusing about that. Its in the name.
Or heck, what about "Base Damage"? That'd probably be the single most concise option there is!

"And some attackers heal you really well!"
*Shows Perceval, a Tank blade he described in an earlier episode as being a really attack-y tank*
1 years late, i have 70+ hours i didn't know that, and you are right about xenoblade x lol.

When everyone complains about tutorials in games and then the one time when a game does them bad and we actually need the exact opposite.
Wanting optional tutorials has nothing to do with not wanting false or bad tutorials.
Torna did bring back the nice tutorial menu though.
the game spends a lot of time on its misleading tutorials though
And People are ACTUALLY Defending the Tutorials on Reddit;
HOW CAN ANYONE UNIRONICALLY DEFEND SUCH BAD TUTORIALS?!!!
If only wood beatemups knew about all this before making his xenoblade 2 video
While they don't give all of the details (Blade Arts are mostly random and the tutorial is skipped if you defeat Malos without missing an attack), they do tell you the gist of how they work
@@Kahadi Interesting, yeah I don't recall either of those, but I'll take your word for it
I'd personally just make it level up automatically and if I happen into the next level of progression it let me know. Less time in menus, more time playing the game

They are critically useful items, though, and he might have wanted to highlight them here for later use.
they're probably from a completed save file
@@QwixLF I know they’re also Merc Mission rewards, but I don’t think he’s gotten either of on-screen is all I meant by those.
I assume he got those in the videos hasn't uploaded yet
I feel so much better prepared tackling the game now
Huh...i kinda forgot how the tutorials were gawd damn annoying for first timers, yet Chugga does a much better one.
Really glad you put this together. You convinced me to get the game this Christmas when I otherwise wouldn't have touched it, and it'll be really nice to have this video on hand when I do.
narcipear jelly mvp carried me through the game
The sequel to "I can and will nerd out on you".
Hell yeah a spoiler-free Tutorial-Revision Round-Up! Hope this helps all the people out there who haven't played the game yet, y'all deserve the best experience possible.
I wish I had this three years ago! Thanks Emile :D
Just wanted to say Dan did an incredible job with the editing in this video, truly professional!
This game seems like a chore to get into for newer players
Hey Emile I have to thank u. Because of this playthru and u having to stop to help your mom(which by the way I hope she recovers nicely) it finally got me to buy and play Xenoblade 2 myself and I loved it. I had already played and beat the 3ds version on 1 which I also liked. But hadn't wanted to play 2 till now. I have beat 2 and am currently in Fonda Mima in my New Game+ playthru and have also started the Torna DLC. I've also still haven't got two of the Blades u have, being Agate and Electra. But I do have most of the other Pre credits blades minus the big special guest one that wasn't dlc. So once again thanks.
Me trying to understand all of this since I never played Xenoblade before:
*"I don't get it."*
BUT I’M COMPLAINING
@@imaknightdude3145 Dude. I've never played an RPG this complicated before. I'm not a primary player of RPG games due to how slow they can be at times.
@@zacharylandrum4789 give the game a shot and see if you understand
@@toooydoeur I definitely do want to. It does look fun, but it also looks ridiculously complicated.
Don't worry, you'll eventually grasp everything XC2 has to offer by reading online tutorials and having some patience trying everything out.
This is going to be so useful. I just downloaded the game today (the full $90 expansion pack because why not). I was debating whether to play the game myself or watch this lp, and ultimately decided I wanted the experience because Xenoblade 1 was life-changing. Can't wait to watch the series after I finish this one!
Just in time when I finished another video, XENO TIME
I love how chuggaaconroy does his best to give his audience the best advice he can give on top of doing 100% runs of the games he plays so the people watching can have an easier time with getting 100% in the game by playing along with him. It shows that he cares about his audience a great deal and is why he is my favorite let's player on youtube. If chuggaaconroy's reading this, thank you for years of helpful let's plays and great advice! You helped me stay positive even when I was suffering from depression, thank you!
Yo I'm glad you don't feel depressed anymore. I got depression for a while when I got tinnitus and it was the worst, but then I learnt how to deal with it and I feel much better.
7:29 No one can escape Finch!
Heh yeah. While for me he wasn't my first( it was Percival) he definitely was one of my earlier ones and yeah he's not the best.
I really like these new videos that stray away from just another Let's Play episode. Keep it up
I played 300 hours of XC2 & I still need a "Fusion Combo for Dummies Guide"
1.) Driver combo and blade combo at the same time
2.) Profit
I absolutely wish I knew any of this when I played the game at launch. Thank you Emile!
I also think that pity blade groups and overkilling story bosses are really only important information if you're a speedrunner.
the dedication is amazing as always chugga!
