I know, right ? I recently watched a video when a commentator was saying (about the rowers of a race): "all are well over 6 feet, don't even bother competing unless you are". This is the type of shit that make people loose all self confidence and finally give up even if they could be amazing athletes.
that is pretty nice dude.. i started 2 days ago and i rowed 2k in 15 minutes and today i rowed 5k in 25 minutes.. i felt like 5 k was pretty far at the end i could feel that my arms were pretty tired :p but 5 k rowing is like 267 calories burned which is pretty nice. I never been at a training studio, but its pretty nice actually.
i think its bc when i did the 2k run i pushed myself too hard in start and got extremely tired.. but when i did the 5 k i tried to hold myself at the same speed.. not too fast or too slow.
@Large And in charge Yup I did indeed past 1 year. Perfect for lockdown cardio, making the most of it. Just hope my discipline will be consistent. Now at 5km per day minimum.
@@unclegeemus Get on water meaning rowing for real in the river? Yes I did, but it was a while ago. Country back in lockdown, movement restriction. If u mean the swishy water rower like kevin spacey using in house of cards, nope. Happy with my concept 2 so far

Great stuff I spent so many years looking at the others and myself. I finally 20 years after it all realized leverage is not all to do with height, as you say. In fact, a bow man in 8 was often shorter and if that worked it worked. Or, the stroke. Sadly, very sad for me, is how the big schools have changed it to a body prototype, and recruitment and not take local potential. In 'my day' they let anyone stick it out all year who was willing to go some weeks even without a coach! Also it's a 'tryout' and different nature of 'first boat' where all that 30 years ago was 'fluid' and you knew you could be booted or go from 3rd boat to racing on east coast in one day if the old geezer decided he liked you ha ha. Way better amateurism of the sport back then. Cheers. P.S. to any shorter rowers leg length proportion lower leg to upper big leverage element. Nothing to do with height or even leg length. So cool finally someone did this.
A few years ago I experienced a rather severe spontaneous fracture of the [right] hip, which, undiscovered for some time, then contracted Osteoarthritis. From having danced, ridden & run - all for years - I now had to approach my personal ideas of fit-fitness & aerobic-movement in a totally reconceptualised manner. I have considered rowing... but, I know my right hip is going to be quite restrictive. I have images of my, unknowingly, over-doing it, resulting in my hip being even further compromised... ?
try kayaking. much easier on the hip and spine. I have the same with my knees from years of kickboxing, karate, basketball and running. I cycle for my legs and kayak for my full body and, like you, have made the adjustments. My heavy bag and mma gloves may be gather dust, but my body stays tight when I use my airdyne bike and kayak every other day during the summer and early fall so I agree completely with your approach and have adopted the same training philosophy. Kayaking should do the trick.
Hello data person. Rowing is possible my instinct says since the swishy rowers and concept 2's resist only as much as you pull, and I never heard of hip problems in all my years. Please row and don't kayak. I think rowing more inline, a cooler sport, and kayaking is all hips personally. I have no idea actually. I do know a LOT of ex university rowers became orthopedic surgeons. Instant answer and they probably wouldn't shut up.
The only way you’ll know is to try it gently and see how your body responds. I have lower back arthritis, but instead of it hurting my back, it’s providing me relief and improved range of motion. A doctor can’t tell you how an individual patient will respond. Try it at a gym and see if your hip feel better or worse. Good luck.
I'm guessing the most important muscle in rowing is the one between the ears... I wondered when I was younger if I could be a good rower- I was 5'8', 150 lbs, but I could squat 450... with good endurance, I'd think that would work for rowing...growing up in the Midwest, I never found out...
Dang, that's unreal if true. Triple BW squat at that skinny, you could probably be competitive at any sport you would have trained for. Ridiculously good genetics for sport.
Canottaggio....Bellissimo....sport....ma non molto conosciuto e apprezzato....i miei 2 figli lo praticano....e meraviglioso....se ne deve parlare e vedere di più....👍✌
There's rowers and there are animals. Some in this video have DNA that 1 percent of rowers seems to have. We had only one or two on big University team. One wore rollerblades back before they were popular for two years, hills and all, never taking them off. One broke the water pipe off the ceiling in dorms like it was a toothpick. He quit to be a military specialist. But, point of this great video is body types isn't what makes boats go from a to b. In fact, a couple were soap opera stars a year out of college (not me ha) but that didn't guarantee a fast boat either! I wish for more videos like this one.
Women do not put on muscle mass at the rate men do; not even close. A man can lift every day for a year and put on more weight than a woman who's been doing it for ten. You won't get broad shoulders but you will tone up, get slimmer etc
I was thrown off by that comment too. It's only part of video I don't like how he goes into 'mental' stuff like b ballers have different capacity or something and it sounded bloody stupid. We all learn to blend. I did h.s. b ball then 'walked on' in college. There is an element of ego in some sports that does not always make a boat go fast but in many cases does. Either way the point about 'tall' doesn't guarantee success is well taken and I wish I had made this video.
He thinks their brains are the problem. @2:45 World class, elite professional athletes with the best coaches money can buy apparently could not overcome their brain differences to be able to train to row. Okay.
Why everysport need to say it's the best sport for all muscles group. It's actually the opposite, most sport you do use most of the body. And rowing even if legs, back arm and core work they only work in a repitive ways
I row. (and other sport that also claim the same thing) There is so many way to use a muscle even if you use them all. You can jump with your legs, you can lift, you can kick, you can made the split, balance, change direction..... Unless a sport do that many thing with all body part i can't agree with it.
Alexandre Beaudry I did dance gymnastics boxing cheer football soccer and so much more and rowing was the most physically challenging sport I've ever done when it comes to using every muscle and I sacrificed them all to do rowing
As a shorter rower that ending warmed my heart :,)

a basketball player would not necessarily be good or bad at rowing. what they're saying is there is much more to the sport than being tall :)
