Rowing: It's Good For Your Brain

- The Michigan Men's Rowing Team, a club varsity sport at U-M, is an athletic team that attracts many engineering students. Close to 95% of the students on the team never rowed before college, and around 50% of the total team is made up of engineers. While it might seem out of place for engineering students to be so highly represented on the team, they see it as a perfect fit.

I don't think there's a lot of people who know how difficult rowing is but engineering and rowing together.
Rowing calms my brain. It's something that helps me learn good time management, my body feels good afterward, and it's helped make friendships that are not directly tied to school. It's also good for my incredibly competitive self to race in a sport where I actually have a chance of winning.
My coach always said the people who came to row came there because they were highly athletic, but extremely uncoordinated in anything involving a ball.
This is such a beautiful sport !!!!!!! Love it
Rowing would be a very positive thing in life and keeping the mind motivated
Interesting some of the comments: "rowing is rewarding"; "rowing is good for my brain...". Go U-M!
doesnt feel like it while ur rowing
I'm so glad I could do this in High School. I wasn't talented enough for any other sport.
As an engineer I love rowing because I can work out with my eyes closed. Just relax and settle into the rhythm… unlike my job 😂
Interesting to hear different commands. We just wait for someone random to say 'heads' the next thing you know it's on the water :D
Exactly! I was waiting for them to put it in front of their bellies and open the dols (things for the oars) first, but suddenly it was in the water haha
Talent is no stranger to here!
This video is very good for my brain!!
don't think I didn't notice the cake. 3:14
Great video. Not exactly The Boys in the Boat but commendable! Go Green !!!
Engineers Row in Royal Regatta!
ROW BLUE! From July 2-6, a squad of Michigan rowers will represent the Block M on the River Thames, an hour west of London. Seven of the twelve U-M oarsmen competing are engineering majors! More than 100,000 spectators, including much of the Royal Family, will be in attendance. umicheng.in/1iQLDL9
We can discuss about it more by calling in. :)
takes me back to mci
My season starts tomorrow
Me: falls asleep 10 seconds after the start of the first lecture after practice.
"...all I have to do is show up..."
Ha! I wish.
Side note, those racks are fucking awesome!
Blade work boys
great!!!!!!!!
Lmao why is the coxswain my cox from high school
is this a mens ncaa sport at Michigan?
+boy genius no mens rowing isnt ncaa
+boy genius Only women's rowing is sanctioned by the NCAA at any school. Men's rowing isn't sanctioned by the NCAA at any school, and I don't know why.
@@LaCaliffaEnnio cause of title 9.
great question as a major u rower in the NW we had a few engineers or less but it was a rowing program not an exercise program for engineering buddies. it's a rich kid thing at "M" although at heart I'm a blue from way back this is just like renting a boat on a lake an hour a day and Michigan has no rowing status unless they pay out of pocket to go to "London."
I'm not sure what this video is other than to recruit a few to engineering program which seems low energy and a way to make nerdy guys more nerdy as if they qualify. It's a car design culture big deal get over it. Then ultimately less interesting. That guy in video is neither a rower nor a college student just a meandering person.
@@LaCaliffaEnnio Long time ago but good comment. They have water there somewhere but nobody wants to put in the work or drive there or it's a cultural thing. Maybe not big enough water. Usually the case.
Hello,
What are the orange parts at 1:02 ?
Thanks
J B Those are CLAMs (Clip-on Load Adjusting Mechanisms). They clip onto the sleeve between the button and the oarlock and are used as a quick way to adjust the load.
Full body exercise
only vespolis :/
olympic sport very respect it. Lique athetics, my sport we are athlets.
Terrible technical issues in this 8 bent in side arms just to start
It's not a real rowing boat very flexible and this as a rower is sad to watch. These are not guys who care about rowing just to avoid their stuff. Anyone can be an engineer or a rower. But this is just a weird recruitment video. All smiles? No. Sad sacks. Makes me sad for the Blue that this is up here.
