Couldn't even take a full breath but was sobbing like a baby. And I could never imagine missing the opportunity of missing a metal, coming back to your home country that had the hope and belief that you would metal, and returning with nothing. Haunting is a good word to describe it.
Great to see the determination and sacrifice our sportsmen and women are giving behind the scenes. Couldn't imagine any better honour that putting on the GB kit and bringing some silverwear home. Amazing
That tortuous experience where you have no control over your limbs is something a person never forgets. I also remember times going in and out of consciousness but kept going just out of muscle and training memory. And there is nothing like being in a boat of 4 or 8 people where you might not be the fittest guy in the boat but you do not want to be the reason why your boat loses so you're trying so summon the demons from within to help you keep up with or push harder than the team. So grueling. And when you cross the finish line I don't remember every being as happy about winning as much as knowing that the torture would soon stop (but never immediately stops)
Watching this got quite emotional. Inspirational. Positive that GB public would appreciated more like this, to help us understand what the team and each sport’s competitors put themselves through to go for their prize.
GB don't like anyone knowing the specifics of their training. Got to be something like 2 ergs and 1 weights a day tho plus some minor recovery stuff, so 30km+ if it's all ut2
I respect that but knowing the distance and time of maybe just one of the participants would of been cool. Plenty of other athletes in other sports share information like this without jeopardizing the secrecy of their overall training plan
Depends on the work. Classic sessions are 24k around rate 18 "stead state", 30 minutes rate 20 (Pinsents record for that was over 9,000m at altitude). 5km flat out and 2km flat out. Standard will be around 15:30 for 5km and 5:50 for 2km.
Know I'm a bit late but splits are in the region of 1:49 (if I remember correctly Barnabe Delarze pulls 1:45) for their steady state, which is the bulk of what they're doing. They're doing roughly 40k a day of SS plus a weights session, bike or a higher intensity piece. I'd imagine they do very few high intensity pieces because at altitude fatigue builds up really quickly and recovery takes longer.
