The most incredible distinction between- we need to be a part of something greater and - we are part of something greater is the essence of the matter.
I will use that distinction between now and the end of my time.
I am an addict. Will be an addict. By virtue of that God shaped hole. I can’t run away from human condition. I need to come back to myself. Take note of my true desires. My authentic will. Which is larger than I currently can conceive of. I am part of the whole. Then I can integrate the addict into my self.
Also-When I realized that underneath the linguistic hangups is the Truth. My journey began.
    Awesome episode. Thank you

Also thank you for asking the difficult question at the end. I think often when he’s asked, the person asking is often coming from a disingenuous place, with the aim to paint the Israelis as evil.
When asked by someone who is genuinely curious his response reflected the context.
And he did give a full answer as to how to move past irreconcilable differences. The answer is- an openness to reconciliation.

As to the differences between alcohol addiction and food or sex eg., I do see the challenge, but I relate to it as: I have to ingest, what will I choose and why? I have to have relationships with other human beings, what kind will I have and why?

We could remember that part of the process of recovery is working with the imperfect. Language will always be a barrier, and that's why it's important to go to meetings, work the steps in groups and have a sponsor to ask questions of.
I'm the first to say if a person is drowning, get them out of the water - don't give them a swimming lesson. Without the body nothing else is possible in this life. But after the initial stabilization, it becomes the individuals responsibility to want to change. My experience has taught me that those spoon fed any program or treatment don't recover, and actually their confidence is further undermined.
If we can't work with words (which we all have different relationships with anyway) what hope is there?
There are different teaching methods and different styles of learning. Trying to perfect one for all is an understandable desire but futile. It's like working to make everyone interpret the colour red or blue the exact same way, or enjoy the taste of an orange equally.

Dear Eli thank you for this podcast and I congratulate your work and your honesty with yourself. What an educative discussion and bringing this angle of dr Mate. May I ask the book name you referred to Adam versus Adam by the Afghani writer and his name. Thank you and keep up the search of truth and bettering our selves. All the love and blessings from God.

I hope Gabor's thirst for questioning includes and applies to the Palestinian Arab leaders, not just the Jewish leaders of Zion/Jerusalem and the whole land of Israel. The Jewish people are also called Tzion by virtue of their study of Jewish texts and fulfillment of G‑d’s commandments. I have only heard Gabor speak on Israel with people who are ignorant of, or biased against Israel. It will be nice to hear him talk further with a questioning Jew like Eli. Most Jews want real peace with Arabs, not taking land for power or false peace which has resulted in self destruction in the land which is the only focus of our faith. I wonder if Gabor has addressed the victim mentality which the Muslim politicians in the Middle East encourage by keeping their people in "refugee camps" instead of working together with the Jewish leaders and the PA etc use their own people as pawns in their fight for domination in the area. Israel was attacked by the surrounding countries as soon as it was re-established in 1948. Israel has been attacked ever since, especially 1967 and 1973 and miraculously Israel regained the whole of their capital which the PA/PLO, Hamas etc say is occupied like Judea and Samaria! Has Gabor questioned the Hashimite King of Jordan why Palestinian Arabs are officially 2nd class in his country which was part of the Roman Empire annexed land they named Palestine? Maybe the Jewish psyche is affected by a messiah complex and responsiblity for everyone, like the responsibility Gabor felt for his Mother's feelings when he visited her in hospital and hid his pain from a condition he had at the time.....

Great podcast. As a committed Torah observant Jew living in Israel, I am having a very hard time separating out the brilliance of Gabor's insights and what I have recently discovered about his views on Israel. To me Jews and Israel are so interconnected. I am concerned I will now see all of his teachings through the lense of his political views on Israel. To me Jews and Israel are not exclusive of one another.

well that would be your great loss. Its a shame you have not been able to hear from this conversation how to be open and "wrestle with G-d" as it were.
How can you view all his teachings through that political lense ? do you not mean your own unquestioning bias and prejudices and lack of willingnss to open yourself to questions.
