Same!!! Literally down to relationships, when I began more adult themed activities, here comes Madonna with Erotica. It was eerie at times! We started questioning different theologies more vocally at the same time. It's already made me ask the age-old chicken or egg question.

You are so right in saying that her pure vocals make the songs very emotional.
Her vocals in Evita surpassed fans a critics expectations. It’s like she makes every lyric word so crystal clear that it forces one to listen to the entire songs in the movie with intense understanding and feeling.
As always, thanks again ladies for your deep and sincere introspective of her work.

Really enjoying this Madonna series from your channel... She is one of my all time favorites and I was obsessed this Evita era when I was in junior high school. My parents had always banned Madonna in our Southern Baptist household until my junior high school choir director told us she would give us extra credit if we went to see Evita the weekend it came out and showed her our ticket stub. That was my ticket into the Madonna universe and I never looked back!
My first concert was the MDMA tour, and she was incredible live, of course. Madonna forever!! 😍❤️

Thank you for your reaction. Madonna performs this role with more vulnerability that anyone else has. In 1996 before it came out there were some who didn't think she could do it. I'd heard this song sung by others so I knew it well, and when I heard Madonna's version the first time it was an incredible moment. 2 more please, Buenos Aires & Rainbow High, thank you, you two are lovely personalities to watch.

This is a genius combination of acting and singing. She’s a starving young actress and Madonna slightly changed her vocals to match that period. She sounds phenomenal. And I remember a theater friend explaining the change up to have Eva sing certain songs to make her more sympathetic.

In the film this song occurred during Eva's surprise when she gets to Buenos Aires to stay with Migaldi to discover he has a wife and family and can't live with him.
There was an unofficial music video for the song using footage of the film.
The "mistress" was kicked out in the music video and sang a snippet in the song after the song "I'd be surprisingly good for you" where Eva and Peron met for the first time and she moves in with him and kicks the girl out.

  • @DanielCostadaSilva

Just like you said, the song was not originally sung by Eva. It went through major changes in order to be sung by that character. It was originally placed after I'd Be Suprisingly Good For You, the moment Eva meets Perón. Then it had an intro when Eva faced the mistress, which is still in the movie but was renamed into Hello and Goodbye. In the movie the song was placed right after Buenos Aires (the last single off Evita). It was put there to show the hardship Eva went through upon arriving in Buenos Aires. It's a contrast between her excitement in the previous song and then facing the reality. Then it finishes with a photographer discovering her (the guy who says "don't ask anymore") and goes into Goodnight And Thank You, where we see Eva becoming a model and then a radio actress. She then meets Perón and kicks out the mistress. The "new" song is the former intro of ASIAH and actually finishes with a few verses of it. Oh, and also, the original name of the song was "Another Suitcase, Another Hall". A few others had their titles changed as well for reasons unknown to the public. By the way, "The Lament" was not a single, but it is quite important in Madonna's body of work. I'd recommend listening to it even before watching the movie.

    • @DanielCostadaSilva
      @DanielCostadaSilva 3 місяці тому +1

@@AutoAlligator yes, I think her version is brilliant! Since it was meant for the cinema, her acting in singing is more demure in relation to how Patti LuPone portrayed her in theatre. You know, on stage one has to be very theatrical, big, so the audience can really feel the acting from anywhere they’re sitting. Madonna’s version is very similar to Elaine Paige’s, which happens to be my favourite to date 😊

As far as I’m aware she requested this song going to Ava as part of her contact - and I LOVE the show, but I think this song makes so much more sense sung by Ava than by the mistress! In the film, Evita sang this song after she ended her relationship with the older, married Agustin Magaldi character who brought her to Buenos Aires. Evita found herself homeless, jobless and got passed over while applying for jobs from male-dominated establishments, some most likely asked her for sexual favors to get the job which she declined. She had to resort to odd jobs like pay-per-dance girl in clubs patronized by older lonely men.
This resonated with Madonna during her early years in NYC in the late 70s when she was homeless, broke, and jobless. She had to do part-time jobs to survive, befriended guys who shared their place for her to stay while she auditioned for dancing gigs, stage/film acting bits for which she was often passed over. She persisted, stayed focused and disciplined until she found her break in a pop rock band that changed her career trajectory. As they say, the rest is amazing history.
Really appreciate your beautiful reactions throughout this wonderful Madonna journey.

Perhaps, you should do that on your retrospective journey after this first go round, and instead move on to cover her 1998 Ray of Light and 2000 Music albums eras, this way you’re up to date with her songs for her 2001 Drowned World Tour. Also your April 1st Celebration Tour is coming up and there’s 3 huge hits in the set list she performed that you haven’t covered: from Ray of Light-Nothing Really Matters, and ROL; from Music album-Don’t Tell Me. Hope you can react to these before April 1st. Also, the concert was so good, like a great movie, that my wife and I decided to see it again last Saturday (the 4th of 5 LA shows). I took along my sister and my niece (her daughter) who were familiar with Madonna but were not fans like me. They thoroughly enjoyed it. Like the 1st show, we got great seats on sections just above the floor seats (not in the nosebleed section). I spotted more beautiful details and nuances that I missed the first time. Kind of the same way that ppl thought of Madonna. Some (Me!) loved her because of her no holds barred attitude (My favorite kind of woman) and there are those saying she slept her way to the top (IMO, who cares... Men do it all the time and get cheered)
We live in a very backwards country, still to this day.
If you are gonna talk the talk you better walk the walk (did I get that backwards? Hahaha)
Just my opinion but this country is regressing. I believe the only way to get better is to progress. Problem is ppl hate change. But only when it affects them.
OK, OK, I'm going to stop now begore I have to call my therapist.
Looking forward to your next vid.
All the best to you and yours. ♥️
      Mark.

You can tell this is an Weber and Rice song, it’s sounds similar to a song that they had in Jesus Christ Superstar! I didn’t see the movie so is she the one having the affair?

Maybe that's why certain aspects sounded so familiar... Interesting! ❤️❤️
Not completely sure about all the relationship dynamics in the movie (we still have to see it), but here's how Wikipedia describes it:
"Unlike the musical, in the film the song is performed by Eva after ending her relationship with Agustín Magaldi, deciding she wants to improve her life."
