Oh Ramin and Serria, the definitive Phantom and Christine. They have so much chemistry with each other in these roles I think becuase neither were afraid to really go for it. They both really put some teeth back into these roles I've seen way too many Christines that become very mousy but Serria's Christine is so passionate and heartfelt in everything from truimpth to grief that when you pair her with Ramin who did not pull a single punch with his Phantom; yes we all Phantom but he is still the villain of the story and Ramin played him like an absolute maniac. Genius and madness.
And Ramin and Serria both have a vibrato and they are not afraid to use it!

Shout out to the incredible makeup and prosthetics teams on the West End, Broadway, and for this 25th anniversary concert! They work collaboratively with every actor playing Phantom to make sure the makeup isn't too restrictive and that they don't have to worry about peeling up a prosthesis when they sing on stage. Difficult thing to balance (as you say), and they are the best in the business.

Honestly, I don't believe Ramin hasn't been trained. I know he said that. He may not have been trained early in his career, but that doesn't mean it's the same now. In fact, he definitely is trained, his voice is clearly technical and the vocal cords are well maintained.

this is easily my favorite musical, and I've been dying to see you react to this. I've loved this musical so much I took time to learn the main song in (French, Italian and Mandarin) the live orchestra and the combination of Ramin and Sierra are amazing. Obviously, they compliment each other SO well, but the thing I love is their non-verbal chemistry, how they're so comfortable with each other and Ramin almost draws out the song of Sierra. I know the Phantom is supposed to "make Christine's song take wing", but this is a great demonstration of it to me. I saw a production of it in Oklahoma City and it's what made me love musicals. I really also would love to hear your cover of the Phantoms part Nick. LOVE THIS VIDEO
Side note: the person playing that electric guitar has no right to go that hard! lol

In longer running performances (replica productions) the following parts of the musical are usually pre-recorded:
    - The Phantom of the Opera, title song. All the singing is recorded. The Phantom’s “Sing, my angel of music” etc are not recorded, and many actors sing along with the song once on stage, but the sound isn’t coming through their mic, we’re hearing the recording.
    - The Phantom’s notes, in the Notes scenes.
    - The Phantom’s laughs, when he drops the chandeliers and Buquet’s body.
    - The Phantom’s lines as Red Death in Masquerade, while he is on the stairs, as he needs to focus on not tripping down them and singing with the large Red Death mask is impossible! His lines to Christine (“Your chains are still mine…”) are live (and the cue for the trap door).
    - The Phantom’s “seal my fate tonight, I hate to have to cut the fun short…” section. This is one that can vary from production to production.
    - The “I’m here, the Phantom of the Opera” lines, before the curtain up on Don Juan Triumphant. Also, the “Secure”s in response to “Are the doors secure?” in this section.
    - The lines before “Il Muto”: “Gentlemen, if you would care to take your seats?…”
    - The lines before "All i ask Of You": “To the roof…”
    - The managers’ lines in the chaos after Piangi’s body is discovered: “Oh, my God, my God” and “We’re ruined, Andre, ruined!”
    - The Overture is mostly pre-taped, with a live orchestra joining in.

What's good for Sierra and Ramin is that they already had good chemistry as they originated The Phantom and Christine on "Love Never Dies," which they did before the 25th Anniversary of "The Phantom of the Opera." One of my favorite songs on "Love Never Dies" is "Beneath a Moonless Sky." Worth a listen if you haven't heard it. Nice reaction. Ramin Karmloo and Sierra Boggess are my favorite Phantom and Christine.

@nickhiggsthesinger Have you seen the film version starring Gerard Butler? Although not true to the novel, it's a visual and tidy vocal masterpiece in itself. I'd like to know your review for vocals/singing styles, techniques for ORIGINAL musical stars Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman...my favorite vocalists, although this version was excellent. I agree with you, Phantom of the Opera is the most epic and entertaining musical ever created with this song being only one of it's jewels. I've seen it performed in Florida, England, and Las Vegas. It never disappoints **I'm new to your channel, but enjoy your reviews very much. I appreciate your expressions while watching and listening as they're similar to a friend I knew who played the Cello in the New World Symphony out of Miami Beach in the 80;s. Musicians and Singers hear on a different level which evokes a more ethereal and emotional response. You're very observant and pick up on the special details which makes your reviews interesting to even non-singers. As a retired teacher of English, Oral Interpretation of Literature, and Public Speaking, I relate your teaching to language and speaking skills, so I enjoy your reviews beyond just a musical application. Some of the same techniques and exercises can be used to improve speaking skills. More Phantom songs would be great, b/c can there ever be too much Phantom? Keep up the good work. A new fan!!

Soprano’s voice is unbalanced! Singing is only balance between word, tone and air... Sound is vibrated air, her vibrato isn’t correct, that’s why her high nots are not accurate. Singing is simple, to gain simplicity that’s is difficult.

Whether he is trained or not, I don’t have words to describe his voice and how I feel listening to it. It is positively hypnotic with a passion unmatched. He is an actor as well as a singer (watch those hands!) And of course, my favorite Enjolras! Saw him last year in Funny Girl and live at The City Winery in NY last year. His voice might have changed as he matured, but he sure sounded good to me! And he still can still move me to tears with Love Never Dies.
