Hi ladies. Love being with you on this journey. As your next single/video will be What it Feels Like for a Girl, let me suggest that your reaction include both the audio version and the music video. The video is stunning cinematically, but it is only a remix version with little lyrics. If you listen to the lyrics from the album version of the song first, it will help you understand how the music video beautifully reflects what the theme of the song is.

Great reaction as always ladies. This song was originally penned by Joe Henry (Madonna's brother in law) but it was a very different version when he sent it to her - you can find it on UA-cam i believe. Madonna changed some of the lyrics and together with Mirwais then produced the country pop electronica version we have today 😊
As others have said, for the next song I recommend listening to the album version first of 'What it Feels Like for a girl' to get the meaning of the song and then watch the music video - as that is a dance version with very few lyrics!! Both versions are fantastic in their own right however ❤❤

One of my favourite Madonna videos. It’s all about that black cowboy shirt!! Damn!!
I believe her brother-in-law cowrote this song. At the time you could turn on a country station and hear Madonna playing. 😆
There is a very sweet live version of this from an appearance on David Letterman. She sits there with her guitar instructor, plucking out this tune and singing it so sweetly. You really should review this… including the interview!

It is true that what ever clothes she might be wearing, hairstyle she’d be rocking or music genre she’d be experimenting with, it always seems to suit her. I think the reason for that must partly be her confidence. And I believe she has the ability to dive into those different looks and genres so that she and her clothes and music are not separate things. She developes a character and she believes in that character. That’s why I think she is the chameleon she is.
So glad you loved the song and the video. Thank you for a great reaction once again.

How amazing!! Love your reactions, as always. This song is so amazing, so well written and executed. Funnily enough I heard it playing at a supermarket two days ago, took me way back! Just a tip - when you get to ‘what it feels like for a girl’ - the music video and the song are two completely different vibes. Perhaps you can listen to the song on the album, as it is an offical single and then watch the video, as the video is a remix version of the song (and what an amazing video) but would hate you to not hear the lyrics of the actual song either, if that makes sense.

Before Cowboy Carter there was Cowgirl Madonna. Yes, this song and video are so good, she keeps on giving and when you think you know Madonna, there is a totally new sound and look. This era was such a joy to be a fan. The next single will be 'What it feels like for a girl' and I don't want to spoil anything, but ladies...the video version is totally different from the song on the album. I 'don't tell you' what to do, but I certainly recommend to listen to the original version too. The first time I heard it on the radio the DJ stopped playing the song and said they must have a faulty CD. I'm surprised you havent heard this. This is when i was alive, a child but still and over here this was a huge airplay hit as well as the video being super popular on the music channels. It also peaked at #4 on the US charts. She started a bit of a fashion trend with this video, all of a sudden cowboy hats and the whole outfit was very fashionable. Music was another great successful era for her with the first two single both peaking inside the US top 5, as well as the album going #1 everywhere in the world and selling over 10 million in less than a year. As i said the album had even much better songs than the singles in my opinion. Very eclectic sound.

This is absolutely one of my favourite songs and from an exceptional album. Love the lyrics and it always make me think about all the people who have tried to tell Madonna what to do, tell her to stop performing because of her age, stop dressing like that etc. I just love how she does what she wants regardless of what the haters say. She is always true to herself, such a great message and role model for all of us. I just love how much the 2 of you really get her. Yes, her look is amazing in this video and those dance moves Wow ! Love your interpretations and reaction.

Easily one of my top 5 favorite Madonna songs. I believe folk-tronica is the name given to this fusion style.
Her brother in law, Joe Henry, a very accomplished folk singer/songwriter, wrote the original version. His wife heard the demo and suggested he show it to M. Obviously she recognized her sister's personality in the lyrics.
Gotta watch the David Letterman interview with her performance of this song for your dream to come true!
Meanwhile, I was busy shopping for vintage western shirts and big cowboy belt buckles lol.
So funny because only a few years prior she was making fun of Antonio Banderas, saying the only thing she didn't like about him was that he wore cowboy boots! Hhmmm.

The song was included in three of Madonna's concert tours: Drowned World (2001), Re-Invention (2004), and Celebration (2023-2024). In 2014, Madonna appeared on Miley Cyrus' MTV Unplugged special and performed "Don't Tell Me" in a mashup with Cyrus' 2013 song "We Can't Stop". You gotta watch that! Hiya - Who else can make Boot Scootin look so hot and cool, even glamorous?
Madonna co-wrote the song with her brother-in-law and singer-songwriter, Joe Henry. He also collaborated with Madonna on "Jump" and "Confessions on a Dance Floor" and others. In an interview we watched together (lol), Madonna shared that she would often visit her sister and brother-in-law with their children when she felt lonely and needed support.

Once again Madonna here defied her detractors who’s been stereotyping her as mainly an urban pop dance music artist. She seamlessly melded electronica and country rock to create this music, with all the other artistic elements fitting so well: the defiant and rebellious messaging of the song not only fits her artistry but it also evoked the traditional ethos of the American cowboy; the costumes, a bucking Appaloosa horse, the mechanical bull, the amazing line dancing, the dusty open space reminiscent of the southwest cowboy country-all conjuring a traditional American country western cowboy vibe. As one music critic aptly wrote that Madonna here have “revolutionized the cowboy chic”. Lest people forget, she’s from the MidWest and here she’s succeeded in capturing another unique sound and iconic image in her deep catalogue of songs and artistic personas. ❤ your reaction and insight to this mv.😊

First time Madonna ever performed "don't tell me" live . She did a nice acoustic version where she also played the guitar herself on the David letterman show . She admits she's nervous on the guitar , but she does very well and this version she does is stripped back and her voice comes through melodic and beautiful. She’s dressed & looks & sounds like a seasoned country artist, she comes across so warm & funny and has a nice humility about her .🥰Check it out below 🥰;)
