Thanks very much, Debbie! 😁 🙏 I really like this technique - You can take it as far as you want to go... It doesn't have to stop at 4 versions of the sample. One could easily do 16 variations for maximum melodic potential. 😏 We could maybe even re pitch a few of the chord stabs by -2 semitones, or plus 7 semitones. Bonus: The idea here can pretty much done in most DAW's, not just Beatmaker 3. 🤓🤗

I get the idea of applying variant filters to the same sample on several pads but what I’m getting at is the fact that my way of achieving a similar result is far less efficient and I’d like to drill down to these sort of craftwerkings if you will. I wd have, for instance, automated filter settings in the sequencer view on a single pad which locks me in to a somewhat limited mode of working that does not lend itself to fast experimentation. There’s this awesome In The Studio With Video where Avicii said he commits midi to audio as early as possible bc speed of production is so important to keeping the Muse alive. This seems like a great middle way when you want creative control to work fast but you need not commit to a linear automation. Anyway long-winded thanks.

Also assigning an LFO, Step Modulator or Random S&H to the filter cutoff of one chord stab on one pad is also nice. Or combining these techniques as well... You get the idea. I am sitting at my rig looking at a thousand blinking buttons and my iPad (PowerBook broke down moths ago and as far as music production goes I’m not to mad at the transition to iOS production. Lots of stuff I could do in Logic, Reason and Ableton that I am missing less and less each day. Keep on rockin out!
Personally, I like super-tight beats, and I pretty much quantize everything.🤓🤓 (I like to use a lot of subtle velocity programming on the drum sounds to help with the groove feel...) I know a lot of producers like to quantize the kick and snare only, and none of their other percussion... Sloppy and ever-so-slightly-off-the-beat claps are popular also... ) There is a swing setting in BM3 and it works great! I like it set at around 20 on a lot of my non 4-on-the-floor stuff so it sounds more *FUNKY*. (Of course you can also use it on 4-on-the-floor stuff to add groove...) I don't think there should be specific Do's and Dont's on this subject really - it comes down to personal taste on how you want your music to sound. (imho though, you want at least enough quantization that your listeners can feel the rhythm. lol 😏)

Question. How would you transfer drums from Groove Rider to BM3. I have tried to go through the internal way and it does not work. The audio does not sync on the timeline. Vey glitchy. Thanks for the great info videos.
Hey Hey! 😁 I just tried it - it works great. Select a pattern you want to export in Groove Rider. What you need to do is: 1. Go to the Utilities menu in GR 2. choose "RENDER PATTERN STEMS" 3. choose a name and it will zip it up for export. 4. Choose "OPEN IN BEATMAKER 3" 5. in BM3 the samples are in the "IMPORTS" folder 6. Set BM3's TEMPO the same as the tempo of your GR project 7. create NEW AUDIO TRACKS in Beatmaker 3 and drag the loops from the imports folder on to them OR 7. drop the loops from the imports folder onto individual pads on the same bank HELL TO THE YES! 🤗🤗👊 Good luck, bro!
I'm sure there are videos on this from people who own the Volca Kick who may know more (Sorry, I do not own any Korg Volcas...), but what I personally use to send 5pin standard MIDI connection out to hardware from the Novation Audiohub is the IK Multimedia iRig MIDI 2: amzn.to/2nxMG8e 🤗😁👊
Electronisounds Audio ah yes that makes sense. I have the irig pro but it keeps recognizing it as a new interface. Causing bm 3 to knock out my novation since I was trying to connect the irig pro via usb to audiohub. So I assume I just need a usb to midi cable converter?
That is basically what the iRig MIDI 2 is - Yes. USB to 5pin MIDI. It also works well with my Laptop and Ableton. 😀 👊 The iRig Pro is an audio interface, the same function as the Audiohub 2x4, just a different interface. which is why they do not work at the same time. 🤓👊
Depends on what you're going for. I don't typically normalize chords. Are you talking about a FULL MIX or just Individual chords samples? If you asking about individual samples, I will try to keep individual chord samples (recordings) around the -6db to -2 db range.... I would normalize most individual drum sounds - but it always depends on the sound.... If you're asking about a full mix, that's mastering more than "normalizing", imho - and I try to get the MIX as loud as I need it to be inside of the DAW, so I don't have to "normalize" the rendered track later. However, If I'm going to have the track "mastered" by a pro after rendering, then I will try to keep the final rendered track (with NO PLUGINS ON THE MASTER) to around the -6db to -4 db range.
