I used to make beats in FL back in 2013. Got into a motorcycle accident in 2016 and lost a lot of memories. Decided I wanted to make music again for fun, decided to download BM3 on my iPad last night but struggled to operate it. Watched a bunch of tutorials today and couldn't follow along until yours. Thank you brother.
Thank you, that was such a good demonstration and breaks down the app controls so well. I've been struggling to find anyone who makes it seem easy like you just did. Ta!
This is pretty awesome! I had BeatMaker when it first came out, but it seemed so complicated that I gotten away from it. Then just for kicks, especially after watching your excellent video on how to import samples in BM (you made the most mind-bending way easy to do), I followed this video with BM3, which I downloaded again yesterday, and wow so far it’s easier than I expected. Gonna hunt your other videos on this, but I feel much more confident that I’ll get this. Thanks!
Thanks a lot Velanche! So glad my videos are helping you dive into iPad music production! If you ever have any other questions, feel free to hit me up on IG or Twitter! ✊🏽

Some questions: * When you record using a "virtual keyboard", does it show only one octave of keys, or can you show more keys at once so to speak? * The sequencer is described as a step sequencer. But surely you can record live too?!?
Thank you so much from an absolute beginner. Err I can't claim to have followed everything..... but I shall start experimenting. I'm just having problems importing some of the packs i bought. I've also got Beathawk with a lot of cool libraries which I see I can play as an AU. I think I'm going to be spending lot of time only iPad mini in the near future, :) BTW definitely subscribed. Thank you again.
Awesome! Check out my video on importing midi files. ua-cam.com/video/pkXwbBYRaAg/v-deo.html it’s the same exact process for importing samples! Welcome aboard!
Hey !
My name is James and I recently purchased the Beatmaker 3 app. I came across your channel and youtube tutorials for beginners. Thank you for doing that for us. I will definitely be using your site as my go-to in learning about this app. Just one question that maybe you can point me in the right direction. I am looking for a professional grade Afro-Latin percussion instrument plug in for my Cubasis 3/ipad pro rig. I am looking for an app that will allow me to make my own beats and not a drum machine app that provides samples and loops. Can you please shares your thoughts on that. James
Thank you for this! Is there a way to quantize or warp your recordings? Like to correct a few transients? Time stretching seems to affect everything. Thank you!
Great video, very clearly explained 👍🏻 How is your experience with this app when recording audio tracks (real instruments)? I saw another tutorial of a guy using this app as a regular DAW for guitars and bass and it sounded excellent for that as well.
I can definitely say that BeatMaker 3 can get it done. I’ve used it for recording vocals, percussion, and bass. Works great. However, if you’re someone that’s used to a more classic interface for recording, Cubasis might be a better bet for you.
Great video man, had to sub!! Can I add and drag in audio samples say from a splice folder in finder? Would be cool to know about how many tracks, bars you can sequence plugin, midi and sample wise? 🙏🙏
Thanks! 👍🏽 Welcome to the squad! Also, you definitely can drag files from the files app. Also, a session in Beatmaker 3 contains up to 128 pad banks, which gives you a staggering amount of instrument tracks (over 16,000).
Really cool tutorial, that i’m trying to recreate. I use a Bluetooth headset, and it’s almost impossible to create anything because of latency. Is that a known problem?
Dope vid Bruh.. 🔥🔥💯💯 Is it best to start with 8 bars or is that a preference? I struggle chopping a drum loop sample and getting it to fit and loop correctly into 4 or 8 bars..
It really is mostly personal preference! As long as you have the right tempo, you should be able to see how many bars your drum loop is when you drag it into the track. For a faster track, I would normally go for 8 bars to avoid it being too repetitive, and then maybe use a 4 bar loop for a slower track. Hopefully this helps!
I have 3 questions 1. Does beat maker 3 work on the new ipad 8 generation 2. Does beat maker 3 work with voice over on the ipad 8 gen 3. Can you connect a midi keyboard on the ipad so you can use it on beat maker 3
Great question! They give you access to 3 free sounds from the sound store. All you have to do is go to the sound store and download them. There’s a lot of really good sounds just in the free packs! 👌🏽
Hello!! I have Beatmaker 2 on an old iPad. I wanna transfer what’s on the iPad to my iPhone 11. I backed up everything on the iPad but I don’t know where to retrieve the backed up data. Any help guys?
Hi dude I have a question how do you open your old sessions when I open the app there are only 3 sessions that it shows me but I want to open the other ones how do I do that?
Hey! Great question. All sessions should be shown in the sessions tab once you’ve entered the program. If you’ve messed with the files in your file structure in the files app, BeatMaker 3 won’t recognize them until you rescan the database. That button can be found in the settings very quickly.
Is it better to get the ipad pro or a macbook for music production purposes? I know nothing about it and just looking to get into it without having to spend a fortune. Based on what I'm seeing it looks like with an ipad I won't have to buy a whole lot of other things like a midi keyboard or a drum pad? Am I understanding that right??
Tbh it’s a really close call right now, since the new m1 Macbook Air just came out. It’s as powerful as an iPad pro at a similar price, with the benefits of desktop applications as well as iPad/iPhone apps, thanks to MacOS Big Sur. iPad offers the touch experience though, which is huge for me personally, but not everyone. I just dropped a video talking about this exact topic. Check it out! ➡️ ua-cam.com/video/0CIKc0JeRgI/v-deo.html
Thanks! Yes, there’s a couple ways to do it, either through the sample tab or through the playlist depending on how you brought your sample into BM3. I’m dropping a video this weekend all about sampling so check that out, but if you’re trying to transpose a sample that you dragged into the playlist, select the clip, press edit, press edit sample at the bottom right, press process, then press stretch and pitch. From there you can adjust the pitch by half steps. If your sample is in the sample tab, you can pretty easily adjust the pitch using the tune and fine tune wheels at the bottom left of the panel. Hope this helped!
Hey Mjusick! Thanks for the feedback! I do plan to make some more beginner level videos on BeatMaker 3 and other apps, so I’ll keep my pacing in mind! Thanks! 🙏🏽
What's the correct way to save a project in BM3? When I make a beat with an imported sample and save to move on to another project, when I come back I'll get the error message of sample not found. Options are 2 options to search BM for the missing samples (short/long) or not to search at all. Why are the samples missing if I'm saving the project. Please help with this.
I also have this issue with some of my projects. All it means is that the file path has changed for one or more of your samples. If you move any of your samples in the files app, your BM3 project can’t find them without searching for them, either in the session folder or in the full BM3 database.
You should just be able to pair them through your normal iPad Bluetooth settings. There’s no way to connect them directly to BM3. Fair warning though, using Bluetooth headphones in music production is generally not a good idea unless you’re just monitoring, because there is a lot of latency.
@@MusicTechnologist Thanks for the video. It didn’t have info to solve the problem but with a little more time I was able to fix the issue. Regardless thanx bro. Just subscribed 👍 enjoying your vids!
Hey Sebastian! Great question! I would definitely recommend the iPad Air 4 above the 8th gen iPad. The A14 chip in the Air 4 is going to give you much more bang for your buck, plus the Air 4 is going to give you double the storage of the 8th gen at the base price. Not to mention the larger screen and updated design! 👍🏽

Haha, yes kinda. It’s an m-audio mobile-pre. I was wondering how long it would take someone to notice. Yes, it is outdated and there have not been driver updates for some years now, but it has always functioned so well for me that I haven’t seen the need to upgrade to anything different. Also, driver updates don’t really matter to me at this point, because everything with the iPad is just plug and play, no drivers required!
@@MusicTechnologist huh, nice! Impressive that it still works with iPad. My fast track doesn't work with w10 being not supported so it's not guaranteed
@@MusicTechnologist That sounds great, but these are difficult times and I already have a skill share like many other creatives and it would be a great value add...
I have the 12.9 and I love it, but it is a pretty large tablet. I most often recommend the 11 to most people because I feel like it strikes the perfect balance between screen size and portability. The 12.9 is close to laptop territory, but if you are somebody that just really enjoys a big screen, then maybe the 12.9 is for you.
Hi i just wondering is there a repeat button for the piano on the iPad as the beatmaker 2 had so it double playes the key u press cos I can't find it it use to be up in right top corner on beatmaker 2 but like I say I can't find it in beatmaker3 as am kind of new to it thank you
I guess I’m not sure what your question is. If you’re trying to repeat the same pattern in the playlist, just select the pattern and press “repeat” in the bottom right hand corner.
Dope ass beat bro'!.......I bought auria pro then last summer I bought beatmaker 3 but, I have yet to use it!!!!!.......I think thismvideo might have inspired me to start! Oh, so i dont really need drum pad midi controller, I thought the iPad screen was too limiting!
Thanks man! 🙏🏽 So glad you got some inspiration out of this! Dig into BM3 and I’m sure you’ll come up with something dope! I personally love the virtual pads in BM3, but I know some producers prefer the tactile feedback of real pads.
Never used imaschine so I don't know the feature set. I also don't know which came out first. But hey, maybe I'll give imaschine a shot and see what it's about.
u skip too many steps for someone just learning. u need to go step by step without skipping steps that leaves beginners stuck & trying to figure out what step did they miss.. don't assume the beginner will figure out that 1 step that u skipped.. U need to do a beat maker 3 for dummies tutorial.
I do my best to be thorough. Happy to answer questions to clear things up. I plan to make much more beginner level content and be as thorough as possible! Thanks for the feedback!
nothing personal.. the prob that I hav w/99% of tutorials is that the tech geeks always ASSUME that the listener is on their tech savvy level & that they're just learning a new program & that these programs r just common sense a-b-c follow me but w/o explaining what, where, when, why or how do we use this or that.. which does nothing 4 someone who did a 15 yr bid & is new 2 the tech world.. might b rare but I'm sure I'm not the only 1 that experiences this frustration.. I actually was given an MPC 2000 XL & was taught hands on by a producer & I've mastered it pretty well 2 produce current beats & a few artists w/decent followings & distribution deals fuk wit my beats.. I'm trying to learn the BeatMaker 3 program because I want to upgrade 2 a more current program but I can't find a tutorial that is basic & specific enough w/o skipping steps or answering relevant questions that I have.. just wanted u 2 know that there r people out here like me.. & NOW w/this epidemic crisis I won't b able 2 pay somebody to hands on tutor me because of social distancing.. So THAT'S where I'm at.. My badd if this reply is too lengthy
wow, i'd love to get into making music myself but this is sooo much... i feel like you must definitly have a natural talent for this... i think i'll never be able to learn...
I wouldn’t say I’m more gifted than anyone else with the time/desire to learn. There’s lots of great resources out there, and I’m going to continue making content to help those that want to make music on an iPad, so stay tuned! Also, feel free to reach out on Twitter or IG @jahrellamani if you have questions!
Hey bro, thanks for sharing again, i have a quick question do you know how to fix the delay when I play the pad the sound has a little delay when I hit the button … idk I I was clear
First, make sure you’re not using bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth audio will ALWAYS have latency. Second, check your latency settings in BM3 under settings. 128 or lower is preferred for optimal pad responsiveness. 👍🏽
I use the Hyperdrive usb-c hub for my iPad Pro! Literally editing my video review of it right now! You should check out the video when it drops! Solid hub though. I use it all the time!
Why I'm having a delay when I hit the little pads ( new I pad pro 2018) when I hit record they sound good but when I hit play to listen how they sound they sound off time.
Great question J_Dacreator! I plan on making a video on this pretty soon. In the meantime, these days I basically make a full drum track pattern with all of the perc instruments on, then I duplicate the pattern by selecting the pattern in the song tab and then tapping duplicate. This basically copies everything from the previous pattern into a completely new separate pattern. Then I just go into the pattern tab and delete whatever instrument I don’t want playing for that section.
Can’t say for sure, as I’ve never owned an Air 2, but I just did a video where I used the budget iPad 7th gen, and it held up really well. I’d say give it a shot. I’m hopeful that it’ll work out for you.
How do you make the beat a certain length and then save it at that length that’s what I’ve been having problems with when I go to export it it only exports it at like 5-10 seconds
Can BM3 be used in a live setting? Are you able to loop while muting and affecting tracks? And can you do all those using a MIDI controller? Thanks and thanks for the video

Please create a skillshare...
Not a bad idea. I’ve been considering releasing my own courses independently though. Is that something you’d be interested in?
@@MusicTechnologist That sounds great, but these are difficult times and I already have a skill share like many other creatives and it would be a great value add...
What size is your ipad? Or which size do you recomment for music production, 11 or 12.9? Thank you!
I have the 12.9 and I love it, but it is a pretty large tablet. I most often recommend the 11 to most people because I feel like it strikes the perfect balance between screen size and portability. The 12.9 is close to laptop territory, but if you are somebody that just really enjoys a big screen, then maybe the 12.9 is for you.
have this daw a piano roll and step sequencer like in fl studio?
Piano roll, yes! Step sequencer, not so much. The 3 main input methods are piano roll, akai-style pads, and digital midi keys.
@@MusicTechnologist thanksss!
Can you record your voice into it?
Yes, absolutely! You can use the built-in mic or plug in your own!
Hi i just wondering is there a repeat button for the piano on the iPad as the beatmaker 2 had so it double playes the key u press cos I can't find it it use to be up in right top corner on beatmaker 2 but like I say I can't find it in beatmaker3 as am kind of new to it thank you
Done some reading up n found out how to repeat the piano keys happy days found out today 😊
I guess I’m not sure what your question is. If you’re trying to repeat the same pattern in the playlist, just select the pattern and press “repeat” in the bottom right hand corner.
I really need help can you help me and teach me how to arrange on here
I’m not sure what you mean by arrange? Do you mean sequencing out your beats? If so, I have a video coming out on that in the near future! 👍🏽
Legit
You bodied low key
Much appreciated fam! 🙏🏽
I personally love the virtual pads in BM3, but I know some producers prefer the tactile feedback of real pads.
how do you plug your headphones in?
I use a usb audio interface plugged into a usb-c hub, but honestly just about any usb-c to headphone jack adapter should do it!
"i like that" on god me too
😂 Sometimes it just hits right, ya know?
142 better, be worried :)
Your Kicks a bit loud.
So this is an imaschine copycat basically?
Really good tutorial !!!!
Thanks a lot! 🙏🏽

wow, i'd love to get into making music myself but this is sooo much...
i feel like you must definitly have a natural talent for this... i think i'll never be able to learn...
Go for it. You can definitely do it. We are all musicians.
It was because of wireless headphones…I solved thanks
What did you use to hook up your headphones on the Ipad, while also charging?
I use the Hyperdrive usb-c hub for my iPad Pro! Literally editing my video review of it right now! You should check out the video when it drops! Solid hub though. I use it all the time!
Why I'm having a delay when I hit the little pads ( new I pad pro 2018) when I hit record they sound good but when I hit play to listen how they sound they sound off time.
Maybe if you are using wireless headphones there is a delay bro
@@cathaljasonmcternan8572 Not bro sound is coming straight out from the I pad not even headphones
Your latency is likely set high in BeatMaker 3. Go to the settings tab and try 256 or 128 for latency.
Man- outstanding instruction, outstanding explanations!! Phenomenal tutorial! Nice work brotha 🤙🏽
Thanks a lot Mission Mike! 🙏🏽 Glad the content is helping! Stay tuned for a lot more!
Thanks. Q: when using the banks or kits. How would track out diffrent drum sections. Randomly muting hats..kick..snares ect?.
@@MusicTechnologist Thanks Bro!! I appreciate your time.
Finally! Thank you for showing the potential of this incredible app for all the n00bz out there 🙋🏻♂️ Gonna get it now, thanks dude 💪🏼🙏🏼
Awesome! Welcome to the mobile music production squad!! ✊🏽
Is the Ipad Air 2 performance good to go for Beatmaker 3 app?
Can’t say for sure, as I’ve never owned an Air 2, but I just did a video where I used the budget iPad 7th gen, and it held up really well. I’d say give it a shot. I’m hopeful that it’ll work out for you.
How do you make the beat a certain length and then save it at that length that’s what I’ve been having problems with when I go to export it it only exports it at like 5-10 seconds
❤🙏❤️
Thanks I have chosen to purchase Beatmaker3 Dope Beat to 💯🔥
Can BM3 be used in a live setting? Are you able to loop while muting and affecting tracks? And can you do all those using a MIDI controller? Thanks and thanks for the video
