    I used to make beats in FL back in 2013. Got into a motorcycle accident in 2016 and lost a lot of memories. Decided I wanted to make music again for fun, decided to download BM3 on my iPad last night but struggled to operate it. Watched a bunch of tutorials today and couldn't follow along until yours. Thank you brother.

    This is pretty awesome! I had BeatMaker when it first came out, but it seemed so complicated that I gotten away from it. Then just for kicks, especially after watching your excellent video on how to import samples in BM (you made the most mind-bending way easy to do), I followed this video with BM3, which I downloaded again yesterday, and wow so far it’s easier than I expected. Gonna hunt your other videos on this, but I feel much more confident that I’ll get this. Thanks!

    Some questions:
    * When you record using a "virtual keyboard", does it show only one octave of keys, or can you show more keys at once so to speak?
    * The sequencer is described as a step sequencer. But surely you can record live too?!?

      Hey! 👍🏽

    I will definitely be using your site as my go-to in learning about this app.
    Just one question that maybe you can point me in the right direction. I am looking for a professional grade
    Afro-Latin percussion instrument plug in for my Cubasis 3/ipad pro rig. I am looking for an app that will allow me to make my own beats and not a drum machine app that provides samples and loops.
    Can you please shares your thoughts on that. James

    Great video, very clearly explained 👍🏻 How is your experience with this app when recording audio tracks (real instruments)? I saw another tutorial of a guy using this app as a regular DAW for guitars and bass and it sounded excellent for that as well.

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  4 роки тому

      I can definitely say that BeatMaker 3 can get it done. I’ve used it for recording vocals, percussion, and bass. Works great. However, if you’re someone that’s used to a more classic interface for recording, Cubasis might be a better bet for you.

    Dope vid Bruh.. 🔥🔥💯💯 Is it best to start with 8 bars or is that a preference? I struggle chopping a drum loop sample and getting it to fit and loop correctly into 4 or 8 bars..

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому +1

      It really is mostly personal preference! As long as you have the right tempo, you should be able to see how many bars your drum loop is when you drag it into the track. For a faster track, I would normally go for 8 bars to avoid it being too repetitive, and then maybe use a 4 bar loop for a slower track. Hopefully this helps!

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  4 роки тому +1

      Hey! Great question. All sessions should be shown in the sessions tab once you’ve entered the program. If you’ve messed with the files in your file structure in the files app, BeatMaker 3 won’t recognize them until you rescan the database. That button can be found in the settings very quickly.

    Is it better to get the ipad pro or a macbook for music production purposes? I know nothing about it and just looking to get into it without having to spend a fortune. Based on what I'm seeing it looks like with an ipad I won't have to buy a whole lot of other things like a midi keyboard or a drum pad? Am I understanding that right??

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому

      Tbh it’s a really close call right now, since the new m1 Macbook Air just came out. It’s as powerful as an iPad pro at a similar price, with the benefits of desktop applications as well as iPad/iPhone apps, thanks to MacOS Big Sur. iPad offers the touch experience though, which is huge for me personally, but not everyone. Great video! Have you figured out how to transpose samples?

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Yes, there’s a couple ways to do it, either through the sample tab or through the playlist depending on how you brought your sample into BM3. I’m dropping a video this weekend all about sampling so check that out, but if you’re trying to transpose a sample that you dragged into the playlist, select the clip, press edit, press edit sample at the bottom right, press process, then press stretch and pitch. From there you can adjust the pitch by half steps. If your sample is in the sample tab, you can pretty easily adjust the pitch using the tune and fine tune wheels at the bottom left of the panel. Hope this helped!

    What's the correct way to save a project in BM3? When I make a beat with an imported sample and save to move on to another project, when I come back I'll get the error message of sample not found. • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  3 роки тому +1

      I also have this issue with some of my projects. All it means is that the file path has changed for one or more of your samples. You should just be able to pair them through your normal iPad Bluetooth settings. There’s no way to connect them directly to BM3. Fair warning though, using Bluetooth headphones in music production is generally not a good idea unless you’re just monitoring, because there is a lot of latency.

      Haha, yes kinda. It’s an m-audio mobile-pre. I was wondering how long it would take someone to notice. Yes, it is outdated and there have not been driver updates for some years now, but it has always functioned so well for me that I haven’t seen the need to upgrade to anything different. Also, driver updates don’t really matter to me at this point, because everything with the iPad is just plug and play, no drivers required!

      I have the 12.9 and I love it, but it is a pretty large tablet. The 12.9 is close to laptop territory, but if you are somebody that just really enjoys a big screen, then maybe the 12.9 is for you.

      Piano roll, yes! Step sequencer, not so much. The 3 main input methods are piano roll, akai-style pads, and digital midi keys.

      I guess I’m not sure what your question is. If you’re trying to repeat the same pattern in the playlist, just select the pattern and press “repeat” in the bottom right hand corner.

    u skip too many steps for someone just learning. u need to go step by step without skipping steps that leaves beginners stuck & trying to figure out what step did they miss.. don't assume the beginner will figure out that 1 step that u skipped.. U need to do a beat maker 3 for dummies tutorial.

      nothing personal.. the prob that I hav w/99% of tutorials is that the tech geeks always ASSUME that the listener is on their tech savvy level & that they're just learning a new program & that these programs r just common sense a-b-c follow me but w/o explaining what, where, when, why or how do we use this or that.. which does nothing 4 someone who did a 15 yr bid & is new 2 the tech world.. might b rare but I'm sure I'm not the only 1 that experiences this frustration.. I actually was given an MPC 2000 XL & was taught hands on by a producer & I've mastered it pretty well 2 produce current beats & a few artists w/decent followings & distribution deals fuk wit my beats.. I'm trying to learn the BeatMaker 3 program because I want to upgrade 2 a more current program but I can't find a tutorial that is basic & specific enough w/o skipping steps or answering relevant questions that I have.. just wanted u 2 know that there r people out here like me.. & NOW w/this epidemic crisis I won't b able 2 pay somebody to hands on tutor me because of social distancing.. So THAT'S where I'm at.. My badd if this reply is too lengthy

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  2 роки тому +1

      First, make sure you’re not using bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth audio will ALWAYS have latency. Second, check your latency settings in BM3 under settings. 128 or lower is preferred for optimal pad responsiveness. 👍🏽

      Your latency is likely set high in BeatMaker 3. Go to the settings tab and try 256 or 128 for latency.

    Thanks. Q: when using the banks or kits. How would track out diffrent drum sections. Randomly muting hats..kick..snares ect?.

    • @MusicTechnologist
      @MusicTechnologist  2 роки тому +1

      Great question J_Dacreator! I plan on making a video on this pretty soon. In the meantime, these days I basically make a full drum track pattern with all of the perc instruments on, then I duplicate the pattern by selecting the pattern in the song tab and then tapping duplicate. This basically copies everything from the previous pattern into a completely new separate pattern. Then I just go into the pattern tab and delete whatever instrument I don’t want playing for that section.
