- In the video linked below i found this cast iron door metal detecting. I am using electrolysis rust removal to preserve this find so that it can last for years in my collection. I boil the water out and seal it in wax at the end. cheers! #shorts

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Relic Art. ✌
I like relic art much better then relic fart. Which is how I am starting to feel as I age hahaha
I love it! Great find, Patrick!
Thanks!!! I might be addicted to this process haha. I love how its totally changed my perception of digging big iron.
I'm about to move to the far north here in Michigan. I heard a story on the radio about a ghost town in the UP from back in the copper mining Era. I am planning on starting my own series when I do.
That will be cool to see the cumulative finds from a spot like that for sure. Best of luck and definitely share the adventure!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thanks!!! I hope you have a great day over your way!
That looks fabulous, Patrick!💖
Thanks Cynthia!!! I want to see you zap something!
@@AmphibiousDetecting I'd wind up zapping myself!😂
@@cynthiaswearingen1037 hahaha nawww. I'll make a how too video soon. I'm still in play and experiment mode right now haha.
What was the second solution you dipped it in?
Paraffin wax. Water boils at 212 and the wax is much much higher. So you can boil the water out of the object, then seal it in the wax when it drys to help prevent it from immediately rusting.
Mister bean voice😁
haha im a little silly for sure
I’ve never seen a brush like that.
haha I know it! It's actually a brush for cleaning side post battery terminals. At the time it was handy. Some of these cast iron items definitely come out nice.
@@AmphibiousDetecting Very interesting.
Rusty stuff on the negative or positive?
That goes on the negative. Hope this helps!
@@AmphibiousDetecting thanks ,that's a great help 👍
Do you have a how to video for electrolysis?
I don't have a full length one, but i an going to make one. Here are the steps though. I use 5 scoops of borax in 4 gallons of water. You need a manual batter charger. An automatic won't work. Generally I run it on a low amperage charge for a few days in a well ventilated area. For the anode you can use a chunk of rebar or steel. No stainless as it leaches chromium. Takes a few days of reacting to get the rust totally off. Then I boil the water out in paraffin wax at 250 degrees. The how to longer video is a few weeks out but that should give you a good idea :-).
What was the second step in the stove?
The order of operations for me has been to zap it with the battery charger using borax and water. Usually for 2 days. I then get the paraffin wax up to temperature, then pull the iron out of the electrolysis tank and clean it up. I will transfer it immediately after scrubbing into the wax so that it doesn't start to flash rust. I boil out the water. then remove it from the wax to dry. thats it :)
Is that from a Super 8 Motel? 😂
hahahahaha that would be pretty funny. I do wonder what it was from. I am sure a stove but never did track down the make. I think it is early 1900s based on the location.
Is it boiled in oil?
That is paraffin wax. Works amazing, but you need to almost immediately transfer the object to this liquid wax or it will start to flash rust. So best to warm up the wax before you pull the metal from the water.
How long did that baby sit in???
This one I think I let sit for around 4 days
Wtf
Ingredients?
I use tap water and borax. About a cup per gallon.
