Stick around guys alot more to go
Sorry bro, some of your previous reactions are blocked here for some reason. Still loving ya work, thanks heaps mate.
I'm not going anywhere I'll just be here crying crying crying over you
YAY!!! ☮️
There's something interesting that you younger reactors may not be aware of. At least not fully.
These versions on UA-cam, as good as they might sound to you, are VERY low quality, very low resolution, "copies of copies of copies".
If you ever heard these songs, as they were meant to be heard, on a record or 8-track tape (a later technology, late 60s thru the 70s). Especially an analog record, or a REALLY good, high resolution CD, and over a really high end stereo system, in a room with really good acoustics...your mind would be blown again,
Just imagine the difference between taking a picture with your phone, of a GLORIOUS "picture" of an even more glorious painting in museum, that was painted by a grand master, back in the day. A painting that will inevitably be a bit faded and slightly covered in grime from the decades, and so is, thru no fault of its own, no longer at its best, unless some group of cleaning & restoration artists restores it to its original glory.
And then you react to the faded and time smudged "picture of a picture"...on your limited little phone screen. That's how you're having to experience these wonderful songs, through no fault of your own. You simply don't have the original pristine, full quality, recordings available to you. Nor are they playing back over a "room filling" hi-fi system.
And yet, just like a pretty picture of a picture of a beautiful painting, on a tiny phone screen, is still beautiful, these stunning songs still retain enough of their original glory to be impressive.
And that is the way, the older of us heard these songs originally. Except most of us heard it over a limited car AM, or later, an FM radio, or whatever our parents had in our homes. So it was still not the best. But believe me, it was still better than a UA-cam video on a phone, even over headphones. Because the audio source is original and better.
When you get a chance to listen to 60s and 70s music in "straight through to the speakers" analog, over a great stereo system...you're going to have your mind blown again. There is a resonance, a vibrance to the sound that cannot come through UA-cam for some reason. I think it's an analog thing.
I hope you get to experience it sometime.
JayveeTV I love your channel. You’re getting to know all the songs I listened to when I was young, I love it when you enjoy them too.
Elvis once said about Roy Orbison, “quite simply, he’s the greatest singer in the world”.
With the interesting difference that Elvis would smolder at the camera and moved like a dancer, while Roy was just totally cool, standing there in shades, barely seeming to move, but taking the roof off the building with his voice alone...
Well quite simply and the difference is Roy Orbison was a great singer but he can't compare to Elvis I'm sorry
@@trumanupchurch364 It doesn't matter.
@@trumanupchurch364 no he can't compare, Roy was far better.
Talent didn't need the hype that Elvis needed
@@RJ1999x Elvis earned the hype he didn't ask for it there's a reason he's called the king of rock and roll so if everybody else is wrong what's the deal the majority of people apparently agree with me cuz he is still huge till today forward, and of course Roy Orbison was great but he wasn't the Entertainer Elvis was with the vocal ability and the whole package
One word to describe most of Roy Orbisons music is haunting, his voice is impeccable. Listen to In Dreams if you ever get a chance.
Please!!
He kind of specialized in songs about lost love. With a a few exceptions
"In Dreams" is my favorite Roy Orbison song. Bruce Springsteen said that when he first heard Roy Orbison, he thought that he was from another planet.
@@delaro1967 I think Bruce was right!
Haunting is a perfect description. What a life he had.
Roy and Elvis respected each other a lot. They would go see each other in concert. Elvis said Roy had the most perfect voice and out of respect to Roy he never recorded one of his songs.
👍
Roy Orbison is class, totally deserves his place in the hall of greats.
First Ballot
FUN FACT: "Crying" was given the Grammy Hall Of Fame Award; and Rolling Stone ranked it #69 of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.
That's too low of a ranking.
It’s too good a rating
wow I did not know that . I am very much a Roy Orbison fan . I will just add this tid bit to the vast array of things I know about Roy . Thanks David
69???? It should of been in the Top 20. Singers like he, Bobby Hatfield, Karen Carpenter , Elvis and Patsy Cline will never be replaced. Props to Angelina Jordan, amazing voice
Check out ONLY THE LONELY
Elvis has refused to be on same stage with Roy..that’s how intimidating he was. Nobody was, is, and will be, The Big O..one and only!
“In Dreams” by Orbison. Trust me. Nobody’s done a reaction.
My favorite!
Trisha Urvan Mine, too!
@@juaneato It's such a haunting song
@JV Yes, love that song, In Dreams!
Luuurve Roy Orbison. Nobody could sing like him, except as Jovaughn said, Elvis!
The song Blue Bayou is great too. Plus, his song,
Only The Lonely, as people have mentioned and of course,
Pretty Woman. JV might recognise that one from the film of the same name, it was its theme tune!
Not sure this recording is the greatest, but Roy songs like an angel, as always. He had a tragic life but never let it affect his work. I think he had poor eyesight, or his eyes were sensitive to the light, something like that, which was why he always wore the sunglasses?
A lot of rock stars started wearing sunglasses, after Roy!
Yes, sixties music is brilliant!
ps. I have a theory that all of the male singers, since Elvis & Roy Orbison have been trying to sing like him! 🎶
😘😊
@@clarissimaadayinthelifeofa1782 I admit I did love the duet with k.d. Lang too
Barry gibb said that Roy. Was his hero, he loved roys. Voice.
Barry got to sing with him, the Gatlin Brothers on a song called Indian Summer. You can find it on UA-cam
My God A Bee Gees Roy Orbison Duet would be the stuff of legends.
Barry once said that when he first heard 'Crying' , "It was like the voice of God."
@@janicewright6213 Great song
@@bubbastill2040 Nice
He had four octaves with total control. Very rare.
and he smoked 2 packs a day
@@joleerinehardt2676 Whaaaat? Wow.
@@joleerinehardt2676 For real?
@@osamabinladen824 yes sir / it was the only "drug " he used besides caffeine, he also loved his Coca cola ( cherry coke )
"Oh, Pretty Woman" is my favorite. Chris Isaak was totally inspired by Roy's voice.
He is the man, Gawd that voice is unreal.
Roy is a legendary singer with a beautiful voice. You can’t get any better than this! 🔥💜🔥 check out more of his stuff! Beautiful 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Indeed.
The only person who can equal this is k.d. Lang! She is so great that Roy’s wife suggested he do a duet with her!
That duet is incredible. We are fortunate to have it. Her solo at Roy Orbison's remembrance brings me to tears every time.
She did a duet with him, but she doesn't equal Roy's original lol
Don McLeans version of this song is also excellent
Glenn Campbell did an excellent cover of this song.
Their voices are so similar. 😊
What a unique voice he had. Never could be mistaken for anyone else in my opinion. Very talented vocalist 💖
He was playing with The Traveling_Wilburys at the end of his life with George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan and Jim Keltner. Check them, 2 albums was all they made. Between deaths of Orbison, Harrison and, most recently Petty.
Tom Petty said that Roy was their ace; if they ever had a problem with a song, making it work, they'd say, 'Why not just have Roy sing it?'
Please react to Roy Orbison singing “In Dreams”. Blue Byou, Only The Lonley
Roy Orbison what a legend, he had my crying 😭 with this song the voice😭♥️ I agree KD Lang’s version is astounding ♥️
His live version from a black and white night, made shortly before he died, is actually better than this. Yes considering his range I think he actually sounded better in his 50s than when he was young.
And GREAT backing musicians on that special!
Doesn't that feature Bruce Springsteen?
@@gpkelly75 Yes sir! And others, including the band who backed Elvis.
@@gpkelly75 Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, J.D. Souther, Jennifer Warnes K..D Lang...
You joking? it's nowhere close to this. He lost range by then, and nothing beats the original musicians.
You just can’t ever give this too much praise great tenor voice. Roy was magic. Died at the very young of 52.
Roy was actually a baratone. But, he had excellent "head voice" ability
I didn't realize that he was so young, when he died.
Rayford, Ray Siegel sadly yes.
The Big O! Working for the man, Only the lonely, In Dreams, Blue Bayou....and they keep going. Elvis!! Roy had his own very distinctive voice. Very large range of octaves.
Roy Horbison and Chris Issac have my male favorite singing voices!
Love Roy Orbison. After this you should hear Pretty Woman. Then check out Otis Redding "Dock of the bay" 💗
@Beth Shadi, Yes, I have been thinking of Otis Reading and Dock of the Bay too!
Plus, Marvin Gaye's I Heard it on the Grapevine. It really is a must when checking out Marvin Gaye's songs, right? Luuurve that one.
There's a lovely story behind Dock of the Bay too. 😊 😘
He had a beautiful voice. When I was a little girl my mom would play Roy Orbison. What a wonderful memory for me. Thank you.
My dad played his songs all the time when I was younger love him, x
The Big O was amazing. He wrote a song for Elvis. Elvis didn't want it. He decided to sing it himself. His voice was incredible and he wrote wonderful songs. Check out anything by him, literally anything.
Was a beautiful man with a gorgeous voice and a tragic life.
Roy had an amazing voice. I could never work out how he made such a big sound because he hardly opened his mouth.
true😉👍
It's like hiding a celestial choir behind a letterbox 😃
When he toured England in the 60's, The Beatles used to open the show for him but he had to admit that it was getting increasingly more difficult for him to appear after them as the main act.....and that is to take nothing away from him having an unforgettably beautiful voice as well as being a great guy as well......The Beatles loved him too.
I was lucky to see him twice when he came to UK I was 19 a big fan then and at 76 still am.
Roy was Elvis' favorite male singer.
Orbison is the true man in black. Voice out shines any other rocker of that time. Emotional depth. Love it. Cheers
You always saw him with his famous "Rayban Wayfarers"
Tom Petty once said that they remarked to Roy: Wow, you must be the best singer in the world. And Roy, matter of factly but humbly, just said...Yeah. :)
Oh, man, he almost had me crying ! Roy is one of the finest tenors ever . His voice is just so beautiful .
Try "Only the Lonely" if you want to hear more of that ethereal voice.
Great choice!! Roy's voice was so emotive. You cried right along with him.
I'm 73 yrs old and so glad to grow up listening to the 50's, 60's and 70's music. I'm happy to see you enjoying our oldies but goodies!!!!💞
Elvis greatly admired Roy's voice. He had an incredible range and an incredible voice.
In the 60s you either had talent or you didn't. There was no place to hide if you didn't.
One of the most unique and beautiful voices ever recorded.
You need to check out Roy Orbison and KD Lang singing this together
As a 19 year old Roy went to see an Elvis concert in Dallas, Texas on April 16,1955. That jumpstarted him into the business.
This song is magnificent. But he hit a sour note at the end with "over you."
There is a TV special with Roy Orbison and Bruce Springsteen and other well-known singers
J the Go-Go's are starting to release some of their songs on their music channel again. I think if you reach out to them they may be interested in having you promote their music. What you could do is go over there and invite them and then ask your followers to go over there and click like on your comment so they will notice you
Black and White Night . done at the Coconut Grove in LA before it was torn down .
The best way I could describe Roy's voice was just one word: haunting. His voice would give you goosebumps and a cold sweat with minimal effort on his part. Shame he passed so soon. His comeback had so much potential.
😪Beautiful & never ever duplicated. Roy has very special meaning 2 me - he was late hubs favorite.❤
Orbison was pure magic. Gods gift to us. Thank you for this.
Simply the best 'unrequited love' song ever sung. Roy KNEW what he was singing about when he first penned, and then sang, this song. Thank you, Roy, for giving us heartbroken souls out here a song we can relate and cry to.
The golden voice, everyone was jealous of his incredibly smooth voice.
Love Roy and the ELO cover on the wall.
You probably are reacting to these vintage voices because they are not ridiculously processed like today. Minus a bit of reverb, you are hearing natural voices coming straight from the source recorded on analog systems.
Roy has many hits including Pretty Woman and one that shows off his operatic voice well, the haunting In Dreams, which I recommend as your next Orbison reaction.
I saw the space ship too
I was privileged to see Roy in concert a long time ago, mesmerising!
If we hadn't ever had Elvis we still would've had Roy Orbison. That voice is a gift !!
Roy was a true operatic pop singer. His recordings are remarkable. I am very happy you loved this performance.
There are live versions, esp the Black & White concert (kd lang sang backup.) He collaborated with kd lang on this song. At his tribute his wife asked her to sing this. He wrote for many including the Beach Boys, the Beatles loved him.
I was named after this song. My father who is now 73 met Roy Orbison when he was in the army he was my fathers hero. My daddy was able to talk with him for a few minutes & get a photo. He told him if he had a baby girl he was going to name her Leah & obviously he did. When my daddy & I are missing each other we send "Leah" to each other. I've seen my incredibly strong, wonderful father cry twice...once when his own father died & the other time was when Roy Orbison died. I've been listening to Roy Orbison my entire life. I never get tired of hearing his beautiful voice.
OMG!!! One of my absolute favorites.
'It's Over' has always been my fave by Roy...
There's a group named Sha Na Na , a 50's revival group who appeared in the movie Grease. They had their own tv show back in the early 80's. They covered this song, with Johnny Contardo on lead vocals. He sung it so well Roy Orbison himself has said Johnny had sang it much better than he did. I have to agree as much as I love Roy Orbison. What a tragic life he lead, very sad.
Welp, Ti Na Na, you've gone and done it. I thank you. I was curious enough to go watch this video and it was so beautifully sung. If anyone else is curious, here's a link to it.
I AM GOING TO GO OUT ON A LIMB AND SAY THAT SHA NA NA's appearance at WOODSTOCK IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ABOUT ROY ORBISON
@@blakemama Thank you for taking the time to listen to it. I'm a long time Sha Na Na fan (hence the name) as well as a Johnny Contardo fan. May I suggest Wonderful, Wonderful ,another cover with Johnny Contardo on lead vocals. His voice is absolutely amazing, my favorite of all time. Have a listen to his first solo album titled Changeover beautiful. Every track is amazing. Also, check out Dreams Come True by ShaNaNa. Denny Greene sings lead, it's a song Sha fans hold in high regards.
@@robertchandler5055 Being a huge ShaNaNa , I'mgoing to have to agree. Although Roy Orbison is one of those artist you are automatically drawn too. Sadly, his life was plagued with tragedy after tragedy.
@@tasintina3046 I went to a Sha Na Na show when I was still a teen in NJ. I love their music but never cared for the comedy. I'll follow your suggestion, thanks.
Thanks for exposing great music to the younger generations, I am 67 and love this music that will continue
For your next Orbison reaction, I suggest either "Running Scared", "In Dreams", or "Oh, Pretty Woman".
Running Scared....so moving and raw...and short.
@@peggycrowley9534 exactly! i just discovered it today!
Blue Bayou Lyricists
was Roy Orbison, I never thought he wrote that song till tonight
Jovaughn, I am going to repeat another subscriber's comment - my favorite version is k.d. Lang . PLEASE. PLEASE do k.d. Lang's Constant Craving. Love, love it. Thanks for this.
+1
A voice that can take you to paradise and back! He was a great songwriter as well.
I'm 58 and absolutely love the music before my time!! One thing that my mom taught me how to love.❤
It's hard to believe this poor fellow never heard this before. Enjoy brother! I was lucky enough to see him twice in the 80's before he died. He sounded just like that live. You got no encore, just Roy doing all hits and goodbye.
Thank you for your reaction to Roy Orbison. Known as the Big O for his voice. The musical arrangement with strings combined with his voice is amazing.
The Beatles were huge fans of Roy Orbison. They used to do some of his songs in their early days. They toured with Roy in the early days. Roy was the headliner and The Beatles were just part of the tour. Half way through the tour The Beatles popularity took off and the fans were screaming for The Beatles. Roy stepped aside and allowed The Beatles to become the headliners of the tour and he was now the second banana. This is the kind of person Roy Orbison was. Huge star, but he did not let his ego get in the way when he knew The Beatles were now more popular than he, and it was now The Beatles' tour. Great man, great talent, great singer, great song writer. The Great Roy Orbison.
Roy Orbison was one of a kind. There have been none other like him. ✌️
"Blue Bayou"- you won't be disappointed.
Elvis was the one that got him to wear the glasses - Try a few other songs you might enjoy - "Borne on the Wind" and "Move on Down the Line" and his a big hit for him "Blue Bayou"
He wear dark glasses couse he misses ones before a show. So it was accidentaly
Im 51yrs old but i love music of 50 and 60s nd Roy is one of my favorites, apart from Freddy Mercury, elvis, and many mnay more.
Like all the greats, his voice is pitch perfect! There's nothing like that out there today! EMI etc, have no choice but to keep dusting down the RocknRoll era!
Orbison at his best!!! Next take a listen to "Running Scared!"
Elvis was Roy's biggest fan, yes he even preceded Elvis. K. D. Lang does a wonderful cover of this song
Roy Orbison, beautiful musician
Those high note gave me chills.
Jayvee listen to Roy and K.D. Lang sing' Crying' on Jay Leno - classic.
He was one of my favorite singers and this is one of his best songs! Keep these coming!!
One of my favorite performers and songs.
Who can listen to this and not be moved in a good and sad way? Incredible.
One of my favorite versions of this song is K. D. Lang’s live version - but I do love Roy Orbison’s as well
Don Mclean did a great version too.
Only Roy could do this song what emotion he puts in to it
Hello sir, if you’d like to hear more voices like this check out johnnny maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge and a song called “the worst that could happen”and another act called Jay and the Americans and a song called “cara Mia” these two groups voices will blow you away check them out you won’t be disappointed....thanks for today’s reaction....stay safe and be well
Elvis, was a hugh influence in Roy's life, They met at Sun record's in the 1950's and, became life long friends. You can tell the impact Elvis had on Roy by the way he dressed, sang and, the kinda songs that he wrote or covered. Love and, miss them both so much! Thank you.
You are correct in saying you thought Orbison was Elvis. He did sound a lot like Elvis. He had the same vibrato and style of singing. To his credit, Roy did have a higher range style of singing thats for sure. Now Elvis and Roy came out of the same location Studio, Sun Records. So they knew each other very very well. Since Elvis got a head start I believe that Roy mimicked Elvis's style being pushed I'm sure by Sam Phillips the owner of Sun Records guessing Phillips was trying to find another Elvis. Anyways, they both were friends and respected each other. When Elvis returned from the army in 1960, he was asked who he saw as his biggest threat or competition, Elvis simply responded, Roy Orbison.
Don McLean sings a beautiful version of "Crying"
I actually prefer Don McLean's version
You've done this, and "Only the Lonely." Check out "In Dreams."
Many of his songs are sad. He lost hid first wife in a motorcycle accident, and two sons in a house fire.
He wrote a lot of his own material. And he has several songs that don't follow a standard verse/chorus structure but just keep building and building to a climax.
His older voice, such as when he did all these songs in the Black and White Night concert, 25 or 30 years after the original studio recordings, is very good too. Different from his young voice. But each is good in its own way.

Isn't that perfection? The reason it reminds you of Elvis is that both of them came from a tradition called "rockabilly" - this song is very anthem like as well, with those tom toms at the end! A solid gold classic!
He was one of kind. True Legend!
Great voice!
I was hoping that you'd get around to Roy Orbison and this song, one of his greatist hits. I would love it if you could do one of his last also: a song he recorded with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne (The Traveling Wilburys) "End Of The Line".
RO passed after the recording, but before the video was made. But they honor him in the vid.

Elvis said that Roy Orbison had the best voice in the business. "Elvis held Roy Orbison is very high regard, publicly stating that Roy had ' most perfect voice' and referring to him as the 'greatest singer in the world' during one of his Vegas concerts."
Actually Jayvee - Elvis Presley said that "ROY ORBISON" was the best singer in Rock and Roll. He was a writer as well as a singer that had quite a range to his voice and can sing low to very high. There is a tragedy in his life because while he was on tour his home with his wife and children were killed back in the early 60s. He remarried much later in life and has a wife and has children too. It was sad for a long time when his family was killed.
