Roy Boy singing brings me to tears. He NEVER got the true recognition that he truly deserved. Such an incredible natural talent. A true gift from God that we all got to share. THANK YOU!!!
Someone asked Elvis Presley what it was like to be the world's greatest singer.....he said "I don't know, ask Roy Orbison". Elvis really admired Roy enormously.
Agreed, so thankful to have been 74 during this age of amazing voice, song, and depth of emotion. He and Bobby Hatfield new what singing was all about.
I also saw him live twice and it was rock opera. The best muti octuve voice ever. No one has come close and with natural voice. Go to wings of Pegasus with Fil voice graph.
ROY ORBISON ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES, BEAUTIFUL VOCALS, THE HIGH PITCH ,JUST BEAUTIFUL, TOTALLY STUNNING AMAZING, LOVE HIM.R.I.P.❤️❤️❤️❤️✝️✝️✝️😥😥😥😥
And have you noticed how he barely opens his lips/mouth when he sings and his beautiful perfect silky smooth voice just flows out. I’m only 45 but it was my parents era and as a teenager I would listen to all their era of music. Not because they played it, I would sit for hours putting records on of all the greats and loved it. My 20 years old daughter does the same, listens to Roy, Eli’s, Bee Gees, Abba, Dolly Parton, Elton, and many more which is good because if we are driving somewhere for hours we all like the same stuff. But Roy is just freaking amazing. I rock n roll dance and his CANDYMAN gets everyone up.
Such a special man! Saw him in MA at the Music Circus...He was unbelievable and I had goosebumps when he sang this song...Thank you for this video...Great memories!💙
John, thank you so much for taking us back in time to hear this wonderful singer. Roy was one of my favorites. He really did have a one of a kind voice. I remember another artist singing one of his songs. They had a very good voice and did an excellent job technically but it just wasn't the same. No one can compare with Roy. Cheers, Steve
As a Roy fanatic going back to the early 1960's, I have always loved his singing. I saw him live about 10 times and got to meet him backstage once. The nicest person!
Yes, I'm amazed how Roy could sing effortlessly and make it appear like it's so easy... I'm just learning about Roy, but my favorites are the early and the late albums. It's so sad that he died so young, he still had so much music in him.
I found his song walk on . The most amazing vocal performance. The range needed is quite unique.... great channel by the way , love how you appreciate Roy's singing and how amazing he was and his music still is .
When Elvis performed for the last time in Vegas in the beginning of December, 1976 (a audience-recorded show released by the Straight Arrow label), 9 months or so before his death, he had Roy in the audience, and introduced Roy as the greatest singer in the world, clearly meaning it, he then dedicated the operatic “What Now My Love” to Roy, spoke some of the words to dramatic effect and ended it like Roy would, on a big note… and said something to the effect that with Roy in the audience, he had to be good. After Elvis’ death, Roy wrote and recorded a song about Elvis “Hound Dog Man”😊
He sang effordsly and sang his own numbers...so he knew how they had to be brought and mend to be....So SUPERB and him somewhere in a century a singer like him comes along...a one off, RIP.
My mother played Roy's music around the house when I was a kid so I grew to love his songs and vocals. John, would you please check out Raul Malo's vocals? He's the Cuban-American lead singer of the Mavericks and there are so many hints of Roy Orbison in Raul's vocals.
I worked at a country western radio station and on sundays it was Dj’s choice. I would play careers. The station had every promo album and 45 since 1954. When i played Roys career of published music so many people called and thanked me. People said everybody at the house just floated away. Roy and KD Lang just made this a spiritual experience
One of the things about this song that is just brilliant is the tom-tom effect by the percussionist with the bass. You start with a badabum bum bum, five beats showing the disruption in the poor narrator's heart rhythm instead of the regular badum badum one's heart usually has. At the end, though, you have a bum bum bum ... bum bum bum, as though some piece of his heart is now missing as he's processed being surprised by his own reaction to seeing her and having her touch him and now is stuck in his brokenness and grief as the strings, drums, bass keep playing that broken heart theme. Just magical.
For all Roy Orbison fans. There is one cd of Roy that was completed ( finishing the instrument tracks) and released, after his death. If you don't have it, get it! the title "King of Hearts"
Loved your reaction and analysis, and the fact you managed to note Bruce Springsteen - you had me 50% but then you also noted Costello and I was 100% sold. A coach who knows his stuff! Subscribed 😂
I have been a Roy Orbison fan since he first became famous. When he did the Black and White night show, his voice showed definite regression in tonal quality. He died not to long after this show. If you truly want to critique his voice, I recommend that you go to his much earlier recordings and personal appearances. His voice was still very special even at the time of that show, but his earlier version of his voice was timeless in quality.
My dad “forced” me to listen to Roy when I was a teen, and it didn’t go well (generational thing). Time heals all. He is a rare universally beloved, can’t put in a box, musical unicorn.
Your critique of In dreams would interest me as it is very musically mobile I n the vocal really good though ,your opinion of the live version of queens save me would be appreciated too nearing in mind the musical chairs going into it with the may/ mercury changeover.im mid part
Your opinion sir on Jeff Lynne's .giving to Roy .,his hero a little help I'n later years that sadly.ensured Roy went out at the top as it introduc ed Roy to .newer generation of listeners with a little appreciation from George harrison too as beatles toured with Roy in early career even that Roy didn't need help.just hearing to.appreciate.to most of a certain age
Roy's backup singers for the night were not too shabby: Males were Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther and Steven Soles and female backups were K.D. Lang, Bonnie Raitt and Jennifer Warned. I bet everyone on that stage felt lucky to have the chance to work with Roy Orbison.
Ronnie Tutt ( Drums ) and, James Burton ( White jacket ) playing guitar, Elvis' TCB Band members are also there, backing up Roy! Please react to Roy's song ( Pretty Woman ) during the same Black and White Night show! It's awesome, Roy looks around at all the greats backing him!
If you are going back to the vaults, would you consider reacting to Al Green's performance of "A Change is Gonna Come" at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame concert in 1995? ua-cam.com/video/pru6jTfitkU/v-deo.html or at the United We Stand concert? (Better, imho) ua-cam.com/video/3Nua5klb4Os/v-deo.html
Roy is a great example to show for this format. He was a true AAA. Like his backup singer! She has some good fodder for vocal reviews, too. Roy and KD may not get the views but AAAs do the things worth pointing out. On that note, a Patsy video may be required.
"Bruce Springsteen in the background at guitar, how broken is that?" HAHAHAHA, Bruce refused to sing a duet with Roy at B&W Night cause he could only lose and make a blamage out of it, Springsteen mentioned.
Hi. Please check out the Comeback single of BGYO "The Baddest". Btw, BGYO is a rising pop boy group from the philippines. Hoping to see your RV soon. Thank you and keep safe.
Roy Boy singing brings me to tears. He NEVER got the true recognition that he truly deserved. Such an incredible natural talent. A true gift from God that we all got to share. THANK YOU!!!
Yeah,I am latino and we have great singers, but to me no one can get to Orbison level, his voice is out of this world..
He's the only male singer that truly makes me feel emotional, something special about his voice. He was also a workaholic.
Someone asked Elvis Presley what it was like to be the world's greatest singer.....he said "I don't know, ask Roy Orbison". Elvis really admired Roy enormously.
I think Roy's voice has an Elvis vib to it! Beautiful Big O.
Elivs said he wouldn't share a stage with Roy Orbison, because he wasn't up to his vocal standard. Pretty amazing coming from Elvis.
That’s not true, but 👍
@@diggintheblueswithaparrot1329 It is true that Elvis was a HUGE Roy O fan and thought his voice was was near perfect.
Elvis absolutely LOVED Roy.
I'm 74 and have heard Roy hundreds if not thousands of times and I still get a tear when I hear this song.
Agreed, so thankful to have been 74 during this age of amazing voice, song, and depth of emotion. He and Bobby Hatfield new what singing was all about.
I got to see Roy live, twice. It surprised me how he barely opened his mouth but had that beautiful, powerful sound come out of it.
Yes, his voice was formed (and pressed) back in his throat, never in the front like all those vocal coaches want to train their (poor) pupils.
I also saw him live twice and it was rock opera. The best muti octuve voice ever. No one has come close and with natural voice. Go to wings of Pegasus with Fil voice graph.
🎼 Love Fil.
its always fascinated me how such a shy and timid seeming man could belt out such emotional and powerful songs ❤
ROY ORBISON ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES, BEAUTIFUL VOCALS, THE HIGH PITCH ,JUST BEAUTIFUL, TOTALLY STUNNING AMAZING, LOVE HIM.R.I.P.❤️❤️❤️❤️✝️✝️✝️😥😥😥😥

Hearing an analysis of Roy Orbison's voice by somebody who truly knows singing makes me appreciate what Roy Orbison gave us. He was amazing.
I love that you're analyzing one of my all- time favourite performances. He was truly a master.
Thanks for this video. Roy was a great singer, like k.d.lang said "he sings epics" for me he sings feelings. I love him.
I would have loved if he added one more verse with that falsetto CRYING. It's like a drug for my ears
Yes, I'm amazed how Roy could sing effortlessly and make it appear like it's so easy...
I'm just learning about Roy, but my favorites are the early and the late albums. It's so sad that he died so young, he still had so much music in him.

So can we agree that Roy Orbison was just a natural talent, a genius in fact, at singing?
When Elvis performed for the last time in Vegas in the beginning of December, 1976 (a audience-recorded show released by the Straight Arrow label), 9 months or so before his death, he had Roy in the audience, and introduced Roy as the greatest singer in the world, clearly meaning it, he then dedicated the operatic “What Now My Love” to Roy, spoke some of the words to dramatic effect and ended it like Roy would, on a big note… and said something to the effect that with Roy in the audience, he had to be good. After Elvis’ death, Roy wrote and recorded a song about Elvis “Hound Dog Man”😊
He didn't need to tell jokes, no chitchat, no costume changes, no fireworks, no flashing lights. He just sang. Saw him live, sheer genius
He sang effordsly and sang his own numbers...so he knew how they had to be brought and mend to be....So SUPERB and him somewhere in a century a singer like him comes along...a one off, RIP.
Perfect .. thank you very much for our reaction.. it tells me just enough to bring me to tears..
great appreciation for the great of the earth!
My mother played Roy's music around the house when I was a kid so I grew to love his songs and vocals. John, would you please check out Raul Malo's vocals? He's the Cuban-American lead singer of the Mavericks and there are so many hints of Roy Orbison in Raul's vocals.

Roy was and is a treasure! Would have loved to hear your show.
@Oso
Roy was such a special talent. Bobby Darin was another one.
Roy's voice gets me every time. He was incredible.
John, Seeing k.d. Lang in this video as a backup vocalist, could you do an analysis of her voice in one of her own songs?
I'm with you. K.d deserves it
John, I came across your video by accident and I'm glad I did. A great critique of a special performance. Thanks.
My sister brought a roy Orbison album home when I was a pre teen ,he was the best I ever heard as far as pure talent .
Great analysis !! Great artist and song !!
Thank you for this reaction!
My pleasure!!
Tom Waits in there playing piano for him too. Legend
And God created man and then gave him a voice. Then he created Roy Orbison and gave him the voice of an Angel. Truly unique.😎😎😎😎
Even Elvis gave props to Roy and his voice. Freaking elvis!
One of the things about this song that is just brilliant is the tom-tom effect by the percussionist with the bass. Beautiful
An amazing singer. No strained face contortions yet he hardly moves his mouth. Unique!
Roy is the best. Thank you for this video.
For me one of the best ever!
For all Roy Orbison fans. There is one cd of Roy that was completed ( finishing the instrument tracks) and released, after his death. If you don't have it, get it! the title "King of Hearts"
You should look to see who else was in the back up band. They played with Rocks first super star. He is known around the world by his first name. TCB
‼️
The tip of dropping my larynx to elongate my vocal tract has greatly improved my shower singing.
Do, You Got It, the video of Roy performing in Antwerp, Belgium, it gives goosebumps because he died 17 days later at 52.
Loved your reaction and analysis, and the fact you managed to note Bruce Springsteen - you had me 50% but then you also noted Costello and I was 100% sold. A coach who knows his stuff! Subscribed 😂

That voice is silky smooth 👌🏽
It has been stated that Roy had a 7 - Seven! octaves vocal range! Awesome yet underated singer. That vibrato is one of his signature ability/talents.
Elvis once said that Roy was the greatest singer in the world and the only person who could out-sing him
There is no one like Roy , perfect singer unique
Always associated R.O. with the Pretty Woman track. Had no idea of his talent. I do now!
Hi John! Whenever you have time, I think you'd really enjoy Ailee's cover of I Will Always Love You. Still blows my mind every time I listen to it
My dad “forced” me to listen to Roy when I was a teen, and it didn’t go well (generational thing). Time heals all. He is a rare universally beloved, can’t put in a box, musical unicorn.

I recommed the song " El perdón " by Diana Navarro.
I do sing right along with him. There is one song that his high note that is a strain for me.
Jay Black reminds me of Roy.Both can hit those high notes.
I'm glad I got to see him.
They exude joy in the moment.
Incredible to witness.
Elvis and, Roy was Bruce Springsteens Idol's!
So that is falsetto not head voice?
