So, obviously this isn't EVERY SINGLE 3DS port. I didn't talk about The Binding of Isaac, Luigi's Mansion, and probably others. For some of them, I honestly wouldn't have anything to say other than, "Yep, that exists!" so I decided to spare you and just talk about the big ones.
Also, there are plenty of really cool unofficial Homebrew 3DS ports that I didn't talk about. I originally intended to, but this video is already way longer than I ever intended, so maybe we'll cover that in a future video.

Yeah that's fair, I probably should have used Woolly World or Bowser's Inside Story in hindsight, but man, Majora's Mask's box art is too nice to not put there

There's actually a feature in game that lets you completely disable 3D and doing so will raise the framerate up to 60. It's quite the improvement and it's a shame some other games didn't do that.

I find it odd how some seem to be perplexed at 3ds support after the Switch launch.
Prior to the launch of the Lite, the Switch line wasn’t really affordable for families to buy for young kids (a seemingly big market fir Nintendo). The switchs $300 cost vs the o2DS’ cost of $80 with NSMB2 in that 2017 bundle is a large difference, and parents would potentially be more likely to pay under $100 for a system for their young kid than $300. Especially knowing that its still getting games.
Also the 3DS userbase was still solid at the time, and releasing remakes/ports seems like the most cost efficient, resource efficient and quick way to get some last money out of that userbase, as well as showing potential buyers that its still being supported.
It also lets nintendo test if they’re still able to support two consoles at once like the last few generations despite the switch’s existence, as well as test ideas (for example, afaik Gooigi from LM3 was first used for Luigis Mansion 3ds’ multiplayer)
I think the 3ds’ replacement was more so the Switch Lite than the Switch itself, as the affordable, smaller, and portable-only system.
Yeah, I definitely considered that a lot of families wouldn't be ready to move to the Switch for reasons like this, and from that perspective, I get it. But I'm a filthy Nintendo fan, so of course I wish some of these games got ported to the Switch rather than the 3DS.
I intended on talking about this a bit in the video because what is an argument without a rebuttal, but I never intended for it to be this long to begin with, so I decided to scrap it
Not really surprising for a console to not instantly end when the next gen comes around. We're seeing it now with the current gen and there's been weirder cases like the PS2 got FIFA 14 and the Super Famicom got a Fire Emblem game in 1999.
I still find it strange that Bowser's Inside Story DX is one the rarest Mario games in existence right now. I remember buying it instead of the DS version because it was new, and also a remake, so it made sense to get it to me.
Any game that sells horribly will eventually become very rare as time goes on
3D land is easy to find cuz it sold like hot cakes and copies were printed for years but both BIS DX & Extra Epic Yarn weren’t so lucky

Oh yeah for sure, there really wasn't a lot of first party stuff at launch that would warrant buying the system. Evidently that was a big deal to them since they later dropped the price.
But like I said, I personally loved the 3DS, I just never hear it talked about as much as some other consoles

I almost think Nintendo made the 3DS version of Mario Maker to try to push people towards the Wii U. Hey, guys, you want actual community levels? Better get the Wii U version! You could go without, but we've already hooked you.
That would be crazy if true, and actually kind of makes sense. I definitely think the 3DS version could've been a lot better but they just put out a cheap cash grab, and that's genuinely a reason that they might not have put a ton of effort into it

It was??? I knew it was on the original DS, since to this day, that's the only version of PvZ I've actually played, but I had no clue they made a 3DS one.

To be fair to IGN Super Street Fighter IV a launch title was a port of a PS3/360 game.
That is completely fair, yeah. When you're actually playing on the hardware, of course the game doesn't look that bad because the game fits the screen.
It only really looks bad when you blow it up into sizes it was never meant to be viewed in.

I have had people who don't own handhelds be surprised what the games actually look like on their native Hardware because when magazines showed them they just looked awfully pixelated. Also another thing why IGN could have been mistaken about the power member Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D started as a port of Resident Evil 5. I heard it was canceled and they just put out what they had finished which was the mercenaries mode quickly because of the 2011 earthquake tsunami disaster. Also hilarious how the 3DS was the one time Capcom showed restraint with porting Resident Evil 4 to a platform.

3ds sold 76 million units, not a failure
It definitely wasn't a failure, but it sure as hell didn't do as well as the DS. Then again, it was never going to, unfortunately. I obviously wish it did better since it's one of my favorite systems but it is what it is

Yeah, most of these games aren't necessarily bad, it's just that there are other consoles I'd rather play them on than the 3DS for sure. It's really cool that the 3DS is capable of running them, but I feel like we're definitely not the intended audience; maybe more so kids who don't have other systems?
Hell, as much as I don't like Mario Maker for 3DS, it's not even that they couldn't make it work. They just didn't care enough to, it was clearly just a cheap cash grab, which sucks because it's such a great system to port the game to.

Yeah, I'm trying to find a good balance. I really enjoy making videos of this style, I've just yet to figure out something to add to the mix to make it feel unique.
Like, talking about games is what I love doing, and since I'm going to school for film, obviously I want to try to incorporate skits and stuff as well. Of course, mix those two things together and it's just Diet Scott The Woz.
I mean, pretty much all of UA-cam is just innovating upon what other people are doing, so hopefully soon I'll find a way to iterate on this style of video and add my own unique flair

It’s funny you mention the DS not being able to support Galaxy, because there’s a fan project right now that’s doing that
You can see clips online of it running on real hardware. It’s very impressive, basically just being some blurrier versions of Galaxy levels.
You said you didn’t know the consensus on the 3D Zelda Remakes
They’re both considered improvements above the original, especially Ocarina of Time
I haven’t played Rayman 3D, I’ve heard it’s not that good
The only interesting thing I know about it is this:
In Rayman 2, there are 1000 Lums to collect. In a cutscene, the main antagonist eats a Lum, changing the counter in the top of the screen to say there’s only 999 Lums.
The 1000th Lum can be found in a secret area in the final (or almost final) level of the game
This Lum is almost impossible to get in the 3DS remake, as the trampoline used to reach it no longer bounces you. It can still be obtained by luring an enemy into the area and using it to gain height, however.
1.9 in Minecraft was not the End Update, it was the Combat Update.
(On 3DS that update was called the “Ender update”, I cannot find the exact TU, CU, and Patch numbers for other legacy versions)
Bowser’s Inside Story is a game that was very important to me when I was younger
I haven’t played the Remake, but I’ve heard that the new visuals and music are very mixed
I am aware of the Mario Galaxy port, I just didn't mention it to save time. Plus, I moreso doubted Nintendo's capabilities of porting the game back then.
That's my bad on the Minecraft part. 1.9 added the End City and stuff like that, and as someone who's played more creative than survival, I've always associated that update more with that stuff than the combat parts.

I'm surprised that you didn't say anything negative about majora's mask 3d, because just people do, even though it's not a bad remake at all. Maybe I'm biased because it was the first game that I owned myself, but still.
That would be because I haven't really played much of it, I've always been a bit put off by the time limit, even though I know it's not as bad as it sounds because you can go back in time. The little bit I did play was the 3DS version, so I can't really compare the two.
Although I have heard that Zora swimming kind of sucks in this version

@@SmashMaxLP ok, so basically there's this sidequest after which you get a mask that lets you get into the milk bar, where you can get some special milk that gives you infinite magic for that three-day cycle. You can do that sidequest about the same time of getting the Zora mask. The reason why people dislike the swimming in this game is because you can't do it without wasting magic, so the solution is to just get the special milk from the bar. Of course it's not exactly the same, but it's not as bad as people say it is. Also I'm like 90%sure that you can also swim normally by just losing all your magic. Which if you're in a dungeon I guess it's not ideal but when you're swimming for fun it's not a big deal.
Edit: I just tried losing all my magic while swimming in mm3d and it didn't continue swimming like that, so that second thing I said was untrue.

I could be a smartass and say, "Yeah, the 3DS XL was pretty big" but I get the feeling that's not what you mean haha.
The 3DS was definitely pretty popular at one point, which isn't really surprising. As another commenter said, being able to get your kid a 2DS with Mario Kart 7 for 80 bucks is a huge deal and a lot of people probably took advantage of that. Plus, it was better than whatever the hell was going on with the PS Vita.

You would honestly be surprised by how many people I've met on here who do videos in this exact style. There are so many other small channels doing stuff like this, and it wouldn't surprise me if it transforms into a whole new niche in the near future. I'm obviously not trying to out-Scott him, I just see it as another take on the same concept. However, I know not everybody thinks that way and I completely understand why.
That being said, I've really been unhappy with this fact for a while. I love making these videos but I've been struggling with the fact that the videos are too similar.
I try to think about it from the audience's perspective; what would I think if I came across my own channel? I'd probably enjoy it, even if it's clearly inspired by something else.
But the creator in me is unsatisfied with that. I'm getting some real twisted imposter syndrome from this. I'm glad this video is blowing up to some degree, but I don't feel like I've really earned it when the core concept behind the series is so ingrained in what someone else is doing.
I love making these types of videos and I will continue to do so, and I'm just hoping that as I develop, I'll find something unique to throw in the mix to innovate on the formula.

I'm working on it, yeah. I plan on branching out into more things next year for sure. Obviously a lot of my inspiration comes from there, I'm not going to lie about that.
I could definitely see both sides of the argument here. Some people love the fact that it's Scott The Woz because it's more of what they like, some people not as much for the reasons you said.
I appreciate the criticism a lot; it gets tiring hearing "Oh, this is so good!" over and over again. I want comments like this that genuinely get me thinking about where to go next and where I can improve.
I do really like making content like this, since I make the kind of stuff I'd want to watch. It's definitely kind of hard to overlook the similarities though, and I get that. Before Scott the Woz, there wasn't many videos of this style. You had AVGN and JonTron, which are also inspirations to me for sure, but a lot of the people doing content like this are clearly inspired by Scott the Woz specifically.
Here's my take; as long as we're not doing the exact same thing and at least attempting to iterate upon the formula, there's not really an issue. I feel like I have enough of my own personality to feel unique enough, even if the videos are in a similar style.
Plus, I've met so many people on UA-cam who do content just like this who are absolutely inspired by UA-camrs like Scott. Even though I can tell where their roots are, I'm still able to enjoy their content because it's just more of what I love. Like I said though, your take is completely valid.
I went on for way longer than I intended to, but I had a lot to say about this that I've been keeping in for a while, so yeah. Once again, thank you for the criticism, I appreciate it way more than countless positive comments that only serve to boost my ego.
