Out of the all of the ports and remakes for the 3ds, i think super paper mario was the missed opportunity. In the game you could switch between 2d and 3d. This with the 3d effect of the console would have been of much help to hint you clues and maybe puzzles.

I still can't believe it's been a decade since we were blessed with The Year of Luigi. It just seemed like yesterday I was working at K-Mart and purchased Dark Moon for the first time there. Good times...
It's funny because the 3DS actually had a more modern GPU (albeit still lower clock speed) that allowed for more modern lighting effects such as normal maps. The Resident Evil Games on 3DS for example actually looked like legit PS360 games at times (at 240p lol). Starfox, Street Fighter IV, Tekken, and Nanostray (among others) were also doing stuff the Wii couldn't pull off graphically. Overall I was pretty satisfied with 3DS graphics - a much more impressive jump from the DS than the Wii was from the GCN.
Also I like how the top screen is widescreen, and also the fact that they have some actually pretty great ports of N64, Wii and Wii U games (only one out of these I own is Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, I've beaten it once and I love it)

Monster Hunter 3U even had CROSSPLAY! A Wii U game, running natively on underpowered handheld hardware. It was so awesome. Could use the 3ds as a controller for Sm4sh, too (just a shame that's the only game that could do it. I'd have loved if Mario Kart could😅)
I think Xenoblade Chronicles 3D was the real entry point for all the fans, because I remember reviewers on YT raving about Xenoblade on the Wii but very few people I knew got to play it or even own it for how rare it was, but when it came out on 3DS it paved the way for the sequels on Switch, so I think it has its merit for giving relevance to the franchise, but of course if people want to get into Xenoblade Chronicles they are better of getting the Switch version, the 3DS version looks rough, it works, but it looks rough.

I bought my 2dsXL as Nintendo was discontinuing them on their website. I only spent 99.99 on it and even without modding it the console is amazing. After modding it's friggin amazing, I'm going on 3 years with it now and I still play 4+ times a week.
The 3ds version of rayman origins was such a letdown. Instead of just adapting the game to the console's limitations, they just compressed the hell out of the graphics and sounds, and STILL the game ran horribly. Too many compromises for a version of the game that doesn't do justice to the beautiful art and soundtrack.
I have a friend who has only ever played Xenoblade 1 on the New 3DS. So thankful I waited until the Switch port, cause that seems like you'd lose a lot of the magic of playing it on a tv since it's such a big game. Also the remastered ost was worth the wait too, those arrangements are so good.
@jaykelley103 I mean, I bet it's fine because the game itself is that good, but I'm glad I waited for the definitive experience. The game is so long I'll probably never play it again, but for what it's worth, that first playthrough will always remain in my mind.
When it comes to Xenoblade Chronicles 3D you forgot to mention that it is the only version of the 1st game that has amiibo support. The shulk amiibo can be used once a day to get in game coins to use in gacha coins for new music to hear and models to view in the music player and model viewer to raffle. It baffles me the definitive version omitted that music and model modes and also the amiibo functionality. I know the 3ds version gets a ton of flack but its still my preferred way to play the game lol Also that 3ds eShop music at the end got me very nostalgic. Its my favorite eshop track besides the wii shop music. Good times
It feels like a common trend with Xenoblade is making something that feels like it shouldn't be possible. How does Xenoblade 1 fit on a Wii disc? How does Xenoblade 3 not just shit the bed with the framerate all the time? How does Xenoblade X exist? These games are true technical marvels, and they're fantastic JRPGs too.
It actually sounds like it works better in some ways. Since the D-Pad is on the remote instead of the Nunchuk, you can move around while selecting your arts without having to do a claw grip or something and that sounds nice.
Pilotwings is one of the best Examples of using 3D to help the Player to see the distance better how far away rings are. The depts of 3D here is also incredible high. (in later Games they sadly reduced the 3D, even if you have the option to regulate this for yourself) I know not many ppl like playing with 3D on, but i think this Game is one, that should be playing with 3D, giving you the best experience.
"Don't think of goddam Mario for 20 seconds" Yeah, I think that's impossible for Nintendo fans. Heck if a flashy new 3D Donkey Kong came out, they'd probably complain that it wasn't Super Mario Odyssey 2.
A special port for 3ds was Spider-man edge of time. That version was just almost straight up the console version and used the dual screen to its advantage for the narrative. Really cool version!!
There are speculations that Rhythm Heaven Megamix was originally going to be a 3DS version of Fever. Rhythm Heaven Megamix is basically a celebration of the entire franchise. So there are a lot of songs for every game in the franchise. The funny thing is that for the first two games there are a lot fewer songs compared to Fever; since almost every song (or maybe even all of them) from Fever are in Megamix. Not only that, but in the game's file you can find the song for Fever's Remix 10 which went unused in the game. So it is possible that this was originally going to be a port of Fever on the 3DS, but later changed to be a celebration for the entire franchise.
33:00 i find a major thing about the 3DS feel is the rim lighting being present on a lot of games on it, im not sure if its something on the SDK or an actual hardware feature but it really is omniprescent
I mean Nintendo sorta did it to themselves. The gba had TONS of snes remakes, and then the ds had Mario 64 ds at launch. The 3DS was questionable to me as I believe GCN still has better graphics.
The next sequels to this vídeo: ●Wii U Games on 3DS. ●N64 Games on 3DS. ●Gamecube Games on 3DS. ●DS Games on 3DS. ●3DS Games on Switch ●Wii Games on Nintendo Switch. Right?
This video made me wonder about older titles from non Nintendo platforms on 3DS. The only ones that I can personally think of are MGS3D Snake Eater, Tales of the Abyss and Super Street Fighter IV.
25:00 Crash 1 and 2 on the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy suffer from this. At first you think it's really cool that time trials were added to these games, like they were on 3... until you actually play it. The levels in Crash 3 were designed to be speedran and have less focus on precision platforming. The levels in Crash 1 and 2 were designed for precision platforming, so they're not supposed to be rushed. While your times in 3 are fully based on skill, the goal times in 1 and 2 are brutal and based on luck.
Wreck-it Ralph also released on Wii and 3DS (as well as DS) and all versions are identical, there’s also Rodea the Sky Soldier also came out on Wii, Wii U and 3DS, just a couple of examples at the top of my head.
The Wii U version of Rodea is actually a port of he 3ds version not the other way around, hence the low quality textures. The 3ds version was planned from the beginning and due to unknown circumstances Kadokawa decided to port the 3ds version to the wii u. The Wii version is the only good version and it's an entirely different game. Even the dialogue is different.

@@franciscobutte i personally find that the smaller forms of games you're talking about still exist on the switch in plentiful variety, you are likely mistaking your nostalgia for your handheld consoles for a legitimate lack of smaller form titles on switch, which isn't the case as nintendo will still often release smaller titles on the switch, both digitally and physically

Toads treasure tracker on 3ds was fucking awesome
Spider-Man Edge of time also got a 3DS port which was basically the same as the home console versions
Was about to comment this
Captain America
Green Lantern
SpongeBob Squigglepants
- all 3 are the same on 3DS and Wii.

5:14 Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
12:21 Rayman Origins

Nah the 3ds version is fire, I played it for free by stealing it for my hacked 3ds
@jaykelley103 I mean, I bet it's fine because the game itself is that good, but I'm glad I waited for the definitive experience. The game is so long I'll probably never play it again, but for what it's worth, that first playthrough will always remain in my mind.
@@UltimateTS64 yah I'll prolly never play it again either. Maybe when I'm old and senile 😂
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D was one of the first games i bought when I started my job it was so cool to experience that game.
Honestly how they made the entirety of Xenoblade work a 3ds was the most insane news I’ve ever heard about the 3ds
I know the 3ds version gets a ton of flack but its still my preferred way to play the game lol
Also that 3ds eShop music at the end got me very nostalgic. Its my favorite eshop track besides the wii shop music. Good times
Loved the little tidbit of Scott and Jeff’s friendship
It feels like a common trend with Xenoblade is making something that feels like it shouldn't be possible. How does Xenoblade 1 fit on a Wii disc? How does Xenoblade 3 not just shit the bed with the framerate all the time? How does Xenoblade X exist? These games are true technical marvels, and they're fantastic JRPGs too.
You've opened my eyes to the idea of playing Xenoblade with the wii remote and nun chuck and that thought will forever haunt me.
It works better than you'd think.
It actually sounds like it works better in some ways. Since the D-Pad is on the remote instead of the Nunchuk, you can move around while selecting your arts without having to do a claw grip or something and that sounds nice.
That would be cool, but no camera control sounds like a NIGHTMARE @@totalradlad
Pilotwings is one of the best Examples of using 3D to help the Player to see the distance better how far away rings are.
The depts of 3D here is also incredible high. (in later Games they sadly reduced the 3D, even if you have the option to regulate this for yourself)
I know not many ppl like playing with 3D on, but i think this Game is one, that should be playing with 3D, giving you the best experience.
"Don't think of goddam Mario for 20 seconds"
Yeah, I think that's impossible for Nintendo fans.
Lore: Scott likes to go to Cincinnati
Glad to know I'm not the only one who made the GBA to SNES, DS to N64, 3DS to GameCube comparisons.
I mean Nintendo sorta did it to themselves. The gba had TONS of snes remakes, and then the ds had Mario 64 ds at launch. The 3DS was questionable to me as I believe GCN still has better graphics.
@@TimDespairBear11snes had better graphics and sound than gba, n64 had better graphics than ds...
Thank GOD this isn’t the WiiU games on 3DS because I would f*cking scream, but I won’t because this is Wii games
Scott is the first white boy with swag
Super paper Mario would be amazing on 3DS, especially with the visual dimensional angles and whatnot
The next sequels to this vídeo:
●Wii U Games on 3DS.
●N64 Games on 3DS.
●Gamecube Games on 3DS.
●DS Games on 3DS.
●3DS Games on Switch
●Wii Games on Nintendo Switch.
Right?
followed by one last video on those obvious ports that never happened, like kid icarus uprising
My first Xenoblade Chronicles experience was the 3DS port. I regret nothing!
This video made me wonder about older titles from non Nintendo platforms on 3DS. The only ones that I can personally think of are MGS3D Snake Eater, Tales of the Abyss and Super Street Fighter IV.
WONDER?!?!
I like how Scott makes this video timeless by referencing the end of the switch in past tense, even though it’s happening now
Thanks for the Scott’s Stash and Clip content to help me get my fix til a Halloween special lol
The way you describe DK Country being not difficult sounds like me when I tell my friends Dark Souls isn't that hard lmao.
I didn't play much on the 3ds, but every thing that I did end up playing was absolutely amazing
More 3DS videos like this please. MORE!!!!!
scott got the ohio rizz
Should've ported more to the 3DS... Would've loved to see Super Mario Galaxy...
Dk country returns on the wii was one of the best games of my childhood as a child it was hard but now it’s just classic fun
Captain toad was always a crazy one for 3ds bc it was technically a Wii U game
Scott future proofing this video by talking about 2023-2024 in the past tense, I see you Woz.
I felt like that game copied and pasted the 3ds version to the wii
All these years Pac-Man Party 3D has been my first 3DS game and I have never realized it was a port.
Remember: Mario Kart Wii had a special 3DS port made in 2010 that was not released to the public
I think a proper Scott the Woz vid on 100% games could be neat. Since some games are better (or worst) if you do.
i agree, he should base it around the 100% achievement or the platinum trophy
I'd like to see him talking about the hell of 100%ing Crash 4.
@@Dad_Shoes I'd like to see him talk about the L Button.
@@legoboy7107 True
@@legoboy7107 I wonder how he would get 23 minutes on it. He'll probably take 3 minutes to rant how the N64 Z Button was used in place of the L button in most games.
these give the same vibes as ps2 games on psp, but without the novelty
THANK YOU for giving Rayman origins some praise, literally me and my sisters favorite game growing up. Rayman legends is also a great 2D platformer i don't hear people talk about enough
I will stand by the fact that Mario and Sonic Vancouver Winter Games DS is the best Mario and Sonic game, so much fun to be had and easily the best DS mini-game collection.
I like Cheese
I like Ducks

I like Mac n cheese
i like having gex 2

- Spider-Man: Edge of Time
- Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters
- Transformers: Dark of the Moon
- Battleship
- TMNT 2012
- Captain America
- Thor
- Michael Jackson: The Experience
- Barbie
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long!
Xenoblade 3d is one of the craziest ports ever made. Its really such a large game and the frame rate was pretty stable all things considering. Id really say the only downgrade compared to the wii is the resolution which still blows my mind.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 was actually planned to have a 3DS Port but they decided development should go to Super Mario 3D Land.
If we had Super Mario Galaxy on the 3DS omg I'd have a blaaaaast.
Yeah, I always felt that Galaxy 2 and 3D Land were more similar asthetically than any other unrelated Mario games, barring maybe Sunshine and Kart Double Dash.
I even like to call 3D Land: Mario Galaxy Portable!
The eshop music at the end really got me
never played its 3ds version but glad to see the rayman origins praise without even bringing up legends. i just like origins SO much more than legends and i wish more ppl appreciated it (and tbh every other rayman game) instead of only ever legends
The thing that always frustrated me about Extra Epic Yarn is that it seemed like the perfect wii game to see in 3D, especially if it was released on 3DS as opposed to the Switch.... and it was playable in 2D ONLY.
I really miss Nintendo making dedicated handhelds. There are just certain experiences that can’t happen on a console.
the fact that nintendo stopped doing two separate consoles means the switch has one of the strongest nintendo game libraries ever, it more than makes up for that
@@ohnoitstiocThe difference is that every Switch game feel like a dedicated home console ones. 3DS/DS/GBA/GB games felt like real portable games. Even third party games.
no thank you. the switch is the best idea they’ve ever had. i have great memories with their old handhelds but there’s really zero reason to go back to having split consoles.
@@deanmoriarty6015 Personal preference. I prefer the smaller, more intimate games on the DS/3DS. Can’t get those types of experiences on the switch.
