watching from the west coast of Canada.. 68 years young and in my 4th year of fly fishing.. mostly lakes but my dreams are met on your channel... thanking you from afar... cheers 🇨🇦
Great to see you back out again Fred and hopefully with all those flies hatching things will pick up as the week goes on, the forecast looks a little better so you are in with a chance.
I absolutely love how honest you are! not many on youtube making fishing vids and not making a single cast. Im certain you could have caught on a nymph but I guess like a fine wine with age you have set yourself a standard. Love it! When I fish I panic if not catching and try all methods I can think of, I do enjoy the fact that you simply enjoy fishing without even casting and yet by watching you are in fact fishing!
Thanks for your comment. It's probably I'm just old, lazy and stubborn I just do what feel like at the time, sometimes I even fall asleep. 😂 Next time I'm out I could equally fish nymphs and probably will! 😊
@@oreilly6365 Glad you enjoy them. What you see is what you get, warts and all. It's all just good fun, sharing experiences with like minded people and not overly serious! 😊
I caught a wee brown on my favourite river this morning. The conditions werent ideal and I almost fell in twice, but thats the season started at last. Tight lines.
@@wildfisher ta. I went out a few days ago, same pool, and caught an absolute slab of a sea trout. I am now the object of some considerable ire among the older gentlemen who fish the same water, as they appear to think that it belongs to them. I look forward to further ruffling thier feathers as the year progresses.
Not asleep at all. Really enjoyed it. From here in West Virginia USA thanks for sharing. Still I couldn’t stand not making a cast on the odd chance. But good for you.
I enjoyed the video. I live in Massachusetts and really enjoyed seeing the Scottish countryside. I did notice, however, how degraded the stream was. Lots of overgrazing down to the stream bank, excessive erosion, tension cracks and a general lack of stream-side vegetation. There were even some spots where you could see how the bank collapsed into the river. I work on stream restoration projects here in Mass and that Scottish stream needs some help. I am sure the local angling groups are on top of this problem, I hope.
Yeah, for 150 years this river, like many in lowland Scotland, has been used and abused for light industry and farming. It's amazing fish have thrived so well. We report any abuse to the relevant environmental agencies, but they are in the main toothless tigers.
@@wildfisherIt is great to hear the fish thrive so well despite the problems. I am glad to hear that you and other anglers report these issues. Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed seeing the stream, learning about the fishing and seeing the beautiful countryside.
Hi Fred, nice to see you out on the water again, I was out the day before after grayling with a nymph but I'm rubbish at it although I did manage one and a brownie that couldn't wait for the seaon to start in Wales on the 18th, still envy you your streams up there.
Thanks for your comment. 🙂 We are lucky to have a lot of trout streams to choose from and it's great to have a new season stretching out before us, although it will likely be a few more weeks until things really kick off.
Hi Fred, I was out today as it was first day but I too drew a blank even though there were march browns on the water nothing was rising and the nymphs were ignored as well , the plus side is the sun was lovely as was the pint outside at the nearby inn.
I've found it's rare for the opening day to be productive unless there are stocked triploids in the water which feed all the year round. Main thing is you got out and had a fine day! 😊
Yeah it's funny that. Much (but not all) of the Aberdeenshire Don does not open until 1st April and some places like Loch Watten in Caithness are closed until 1st May. Lots of local variation.

Thanks Kathy, glad you enjoy it. It's never too late to start fly fishing. 🙂
I like the educational side of it and explains why early season can be difficult, thanks.
Thanks it's great you found it useful. 🙂

Thanks Philip, hopefully the hatches will get the fish feeding soon and I'll actually have a few casts. It was just great to be out again. 😉

Exactly. Once the fish key into these hatched duns we should see some action. 🙂

Good and educational👍 think I would've put a march brown wet on and had a wee go👍
That might have been worth a try. 🙂
Tight lines for 2022 Fred.

hope the temps come up amd you get the chance to match the hatch. nothing better than a take on a dry fly.
Thanks. Things have started to waken up now. 🙂
taking the fly rod for a walk i geuss
😄 Yeah that was about right!
Almost that time of year again!
A wee tea strainer would of got that olive that got away!
Thanks enjoyed the ul.
That would have worked! Still not sure what I would have with it had I caught it though. Catch and release! 😃

Hi there wot is that river’s name thanks
Arbroath Angling Club's Lunan Water. It is covered by a protection order but day permits are available.
Typical river fisher ... wont say where the river is!
