  • First day loch fishing of 2022.
    Cold and changeable, the 4 seasons in one day, but the wee wild brown trout in the Big Loch did not disappoint.

      Thanks Neil, most kind. Yeah the Maxcatch lines are good although I do wonder about buying them. Seem to be direct copies of the Rio Gold. Mike's lines are very good and are an honest buy.

      I use floating and intermediate Talon lines, with a spool of backing and 2 braided loops for £10. I have floaters from Maxcatch £12 and Aventik which are made by Maxcatch and is a lovely line, £14. They are probably copies, but I vote with my wallet, they might want to look at the price they sell at, they will eventually price themselves out of the market. We have been using tackle made in Asia since the second world war and most of the high end stuff is being made there these days including Hardy.

    Hi Fred, lovely scenery and nice video , I use Maxcatch line for around £11 and can't fault it but I see the difference between that and big name brands for everything as just being a lot of money wasted because most of the rods,reels, lines etc come from the same factories with different labels and packaging.

      Yeah, with the big brand lines we are paying a fair chunk for the marketing I think.

    I bring a couple of tungsten embedded leaders with me which in effect gives me a sinking tip on my floating line…just add a tippet of your choice..a nice option to have with you if you want to get deeper…much nicer to cast than a full sinking line! Tight lines!

    Some nice fish on an unforgiving day! The direction of travel for prices on all fishing gear (and everything else) is upwards but some of the bigger brands are milking the situation...

  • @kingfisherphil
    @kingfisherphil 2 роки тому +1

    Good fishing, plenty of action! On rods especially in UK, the Thomas & Thomas used rods are usually fantastic value, great rods, as good as Sage and such, but not as fashionable. The Light Presentation or Paradigm series are ace dry fly rods and as good as Sage original LL. On fly lines I agree 100% they are a rip off for the posh brands. I go for Cortland Sylk and pay £55 that is as far as I will go ! And I am a Yorkshireman, the race known for our generosity!

      Maybe you have more sense than money, some people have more money than sense. I loved my Cortland Classic 444 floater, but these days I spend less than 20 quid on my lines, they are good lines maybe not as slick as the 444. I might go mad at Xmas and get a 444.

      @@wildfisher I was like most people and thought more money was better and paid over two weeks wages on a Hardy rod thirty years back, then I saw the light. Thinking back to 1969 I was 12 and bought a built cane rod for thirty bob and went down to Bert Murray's pet shop and paid 17 and 6 for a new fangled plastic line, it caught me fish. I now use rods costing under £100, lines under £20 and it is vastly superior to the tackle in 1969 and does exactly the same as top end tackle. As you said they will price themselves out and if they keep fleecing their customers, they will be somebody else's customers pretty quickly. Tight lines
