- Well guys, this is my second trip of 2022 to The Big Loch.
I quite enjoyed my last stint here, cold as it was, so here I go again about 2 weeks later. Join me on the bonnie banks and see how I got on!
Music in this video:
Middle Age Blues and Empty Bottle Empty Bed by Mini Vandals
Love your skillful and selective use of the long-range catch and release technique when you decide to catch a bigger wee fish Fred 🎣🐟:) ...another great video to watch alongside you fishing among your beautiful countryside in Scotland...and enjoyed seeing 'slim and scruffy' traditional wet flies like your versions of the Dunkeld, pearly Black Pennell performing well on wild fish in the right conditions.
Thanks TK glad you enjoyed it. I messed up the camera position a bit in the pre-lunchtime section, the horizon was a bit wonky. Of course you don't notice these things until it's too late. 😊 I also thought I was going to lose my voice!
hi Fred, it seems to be nothing but cold and windy in Wales and the rivers so low the fishing is rubbish, nice to see you catching and well done. Mike
Thanks Mike. The spring has not been the best here either, very low water and cold east winds. The fish do appear to have woken up though. 👍
I had a weeks fishing the week before you fished backwater this time ,I fished the Isla at belaty had some beautiful fish that week on the dry ,16s f/ fly grey ,lovely part of Scotland had a look at backwater it’s only a couple of miles from the cottage we stay in ,I’m going to fish it next time I’m there ,thanks for your vids really enjoy them
It is a lovely area and so accessible. The loch fishes well and I do wonder why in the past I bothered travelling to the far north for fishing that was no better when I had places like this on my doorstep. The grass is always greener I guess! 😊
@@wildfisher yes I agree ,I’m going up to assynt for a week this w/ end more miles more expensive ,a fair drive from Yorkshire, but still looking forward to it ,cheers tightlines
I’d take the wonky views over a dead straight first person office view any day. Great video
Thanks glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Hi, glad you said ... into the vid, about the jungle cock.I thought I was going bonkeroony with no eye on the Dunkeld.
Back in the 70's they were banned.
Yeah, back in the day if it caught fish someone wanted it banned. The Alexandria and even tube flies were banned at one point on some waters. 😄
thanks for posting, always enjoy watching. dreish and mayar were my 1st 2 munros.
all the best
It's a lovely area James! 😊
Fantastic stuff, hope you're well my friend its a sub n thumb from the pirate Arrrrrr
Thanks Pirate - most kind! 😊😊😊😊
Another great wee session, one leapt out of the water at the start of the video it looked a cracker.will need to tie up some of the Dunkelds for sure.👍
Yes that was a good one, just now and then you see some huge fish jumping in that loch. 😊
I really enjoyed that as you said beautiful surroundings and I loved your background music
Thank you for commenting and great hat you enjoyed it! 😊
Never think you talk too much. Since I don’t fish lochs or lakes here in West Virginia I almost didn’t watch this. But your comments kept me hanging on to the end. Spent my lunch time watching and then some. Take care
Thank you, you are most kind. Glad you enjoy my rambling! 😊
Thanks for explaining your setup, I'm trying to get more into stillwaters.
Thanks. I'm happy it was of some use to you. 👍
I'll be back up in august to fish the loch again. Never lets me down and the dry fly fishing can be fantastic.
It's a great place. August is good for heather fly and rising fish there 👌
Lovely stuff. I'm heading out to the west coast lochs around the Kilpatrick hills next week, weather permitting. I've been looking forward to it for a while, although I wasn't sure if they would be warm enough yet, but if the east coast is fishing then the west will be too.
It should be great by now. Fewer midgies as well! 😁
Great video again sir don't mind keeping a couple of those lovely wee trout for a breakfast now and again they taste good but prefer a nice fresh run sea trout can't beat that
Thanks. If any trout taste good it would be the ones from there. The water is so clear and pure.
entertaining and informative. Yes dawn to dusk days are for young 'uns !
Thanks. You are right too. Long days are not for the long of tooth. 😄
another great video fred love the wild brownies
Thanks for your comment. 👍
Very enjoyable Fred! 👍
Thanks Allan! 😉
@@wildfisher your blethering in the vid adds to the quality and keeps it interesting!
excellent videos.
Thank you. 😊
Great day out there Fred and lots of fish as well plus no waterproofs! What more can you ask for?
By the time got back to the car the heavens opened. I looked like I'd been under a power shower 😁
@@wildfisher Even so you did well to make it through most of the fishing with no rain. Climate change I guess.
@@caorach3354 I was just lucky Philip. 😄
Had some nice fish up there this session fred lovely place to fish atb scott
It is indeed a peaceful place to spend some time.
Amazing sky 😍 Know what you mean about lakes suddenly switching off and on.......isn't weird when suddenly you see two or more fish rise instantly even some distance from each other?! What on earth is all that about? Never heard of any explanation.
Part of the mystery of trout. Actually pike are the same ...........😆
@@wildfisher They definitely respond to things we cant sense, such as air pressure.
Nice one Fred, the better ones often get off don't they😀 Iooked like a large fishing jumping at the start of the video, what size do they go to in the Loch?
There are some big fish in there Chris but they are not often caught. Can't recall ever getting anything bigger than 3/4 lb myself.
I,m looking forward to coming to your area for a fishing holiday this year . Can you please offer any locations and tips for fly fishing rhe lochs and rivers . Thank you in advance . Tight lines . Hope I might see you in person one day ?
Great video as always don't suppose you would tell me the name of the loch
It's no secret. Backwater in Glen Isla - permits from Lintrathen Angling Club.
👍
Is there any particular reason for not threading the line through the bottom ring?
It looks like that doesn't it? 😄
Do you need a permit on the Loch?
Yes, available from Lintrathen Angling Club.
