A song from a 50s & 60s TV series that will be familiar to older viewers. I could not get it out of my head today. What started as a nice day’s fly fishing ended with an ever growing heard of cows bellowing, stampeding, destroying the river banks and defecating in the water. I didn’t film the worst of it.
The fishing prior to this was actually quite enjoyable with a few small fish taken.

Haha love the title …cattle are such curious creatures …young ones will follow you like a pet dog and ruin everything …but it’s when they lick the paintwork on your car is when they test your patience 😁😁👍

Yeah the slashing rises can be frustrating. Moving down a hook size can help but one of the flies was already a 16, so who knows. 😐

Fred I'm glad to see the rains have your water flowing again- As for the cattle, a nice steak for dinner would have been proper. 😁
Yeah it was good to get some rain although it's pretty low again now. 😊
We also have some stretches that suffer with "bovine blight" Fred. You can be fishing away quite happily and then the water just colours up and the fishing becomes a waste of time. Apparently they defecate 5 x more when standing in the water. I'm not sure how accurate that figure is but once is bad enough!
Yesterday I saw a few of them standing in the water , front end grazing the bank while simultaneously crapping out the other end right into the river. We are lucky that most of the river is agricultural rather than pastoral. I can only think of three fields with livestock but the damage they do is astonishing. Yesterday's herd seems to get bigger every year. ☹
Late to the party Fred but I got to watch it last night and, as ever, enjoyed it. I hate cattle :-) Actually the truth is I'm frightened of them. You did well to get, really, a lot of action and the river was looking lovely in the Autumn light and with what appears to be decent water in it. Despite the cattle it looked like a fantastic Autumn day out and that's what matters.
Thanks Philip. Never got out on the closing day yet again, the weather was impossible. Not the best season for sure, here's hoping for 2023. As far as the cattle go I'll try to eat more of them and see if that reduces the numbers. 😅

Most of the farmers are OK but I guess the expense involved in putting in fencing on land that has always been open grazing would be considerable

Definitely annoying them cows Fred they destroy most of the bankings I would think the farmer should be warned about this from sepa
