"Hardwired" is een nummer van de Amerikaanse heavymetalband Metallica. Het werd op 18 augustus 2016 als download uitgebracht als de eerste single van hun tiende studio album, Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct (2016). Het nummer werd voor het eerst live gespeeld tegen het einde van de show van de band in het US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis op 20 augustus 2016. Het nummer ontving een nominatie voor Best Rock Song tijdens de Grammy Awards van 2017.
De band vertelde bij het debuut van het nummer op de Howard Stern Show dat het een vrij late toevoeging aan het album was. Lars Ulrich legde uit dat we na het afronden van de andere nummers "besloten hadden dat we een korte, snelle opener nodig hadden", waardoor hij en James Hetfield in juni 2016 in ongeveer een week tijd "Hardwired" componeerden.
De videoclip werd uitgebracht op 18 augustus 2016. Gefilmd in zwart-wit, waarin de band het nummer in het donker uitvoert onder snel knipperende flitslichten, terwijl de camera voortdurend rond de bandleden draait.

The song was first played live near the end of the band's show at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on August 20, 2016. The song received a nomination for Best Rock Song at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
The band detailed on the song's debut at The Howard Stern Show that it was a rather late addition to the album. Lars Ulrich explained that after finishing the other songs "we decided that we needed a short, fast opener", leading him and James Hetfield to compose "Hardwired" in about a week in June 2016.
The music video was released on August 18, 2016. Filmed in black-and-white, it features the band performing the song in the dark under rapidly flashing strobe lights, as the camera continuously rotates around the band members.
