Love everything you do to inspire gardeners and home cooks. I just bought my first Greenstalk and am excited to plant it out. I’m headed for knee replacement surgery on May 30 so I wanted something that I could have all in one spot and take care of without having to crouch.
Good luck with your surgery! I did a partial a few years ago and now I need a partial on the other one, but I’m avoiding it and just hoping if I pretend it’s not bad that it will go away😅. Gardening definitely is more difficult when you can’t move your knees.
I purchased 3 original planters in March during the sale. One is filled with assorted colors of petunias, one has june bearing strawberries and the 3rd one has peppers, spinach, kale, assorted greens, lettuces, carrots and basil and radishes. Everything is looking beautiful, surviving a terrible hail storm last Sunday. We moved them up against our garage when reports of servere storms and hail was is the forecast. I am so excited to have them doing so well. Thanks for sharing the sale with us Becky. Happy Mother's Day to you and your sweet Mom. Love from Iowa.❤
I love crockpots for easy dinners. I don't usually do lasagna in one, because I prefer the consistency of and depth in a pan in the oven. I DO have a casserole crockpot though which is great if I want to do a casserole especially for a party or buffet meal. Enchiladas turn out great. In a regular crockpot use any of your freezer meal meat marinades you have posted recently. My family's favorite favorite meal in the crockpot is one called Key West Ribs from Pillsbury. Been making. It for probably 20 years at least. 2 1/2 lb country-style pork loin ribs 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 1/4 cup barbecue sauce 1 teaspoon grated lime peel 2 tablespoons lime juice 1 teaspoon grated orange peel 1/4 cup orange juice 1/2 teaspoon salt In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, place pork ribs. In small bowl, mix remaining ingredients. Pour over ribs. 2 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 7 to 9 hours. Spoon sauce over ribs. Serve with rice and black beans, and a sprinkle of cilantro, and lime.
Since you went into detail about how you did not add lemon juice to your tomato sauce, according to the "USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning" on page 3-5 it says you need add acidification to tomato products whether you water bath can "or" pressure can. Under standard tomato sauce it is in bold to add acitification. Pressure canning does not changethe need to add acitification. Just thought you would want to know since people watch your canning videos.
I may be wrong and don’t have the time at the moment to go back and watch the video (I’m back in from lunch) but I believe she said she added onions to the tomato mixture which are high in acidity if I’m not mistaken.
@@suzetteblair8419 If i am wrong I apologize. Using the direction in the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning for tomato juice or vegetable juice with onions you still have to add acitification. Stewed Tomatoes with onions require acitification. Again, if I am wrong I apologize. I will still be putting lemon juice in my canned tomato products. It is just to easy to put in a little sugar in if it is to tart. I know she said she didn't want to put sugar in it.

Always so fun to see you and your mom doing a project together. Strawberries on the lower levels for the grandkids, what a sweet idea! As you were planting your own beanstalks and sharing about being overwhelmed with choices, and losing sight of then returning to the starting goal, I realized that I have been implementing that same approach recently. Feeling overwhelmed is so familiar, but taking a step back and regrouping, simplifying, these are new to me. And I learned it from you. 🙂 I so enjoy how you give us the whole picture, not just the familiar or successful bits. You’re not afraid to learn as you go, and that makes your videos so much more interesting. Thank you.

You do not necessarily have to add lemon juice if your tomatoes are acidic enough. You can test them with a ph meter or ph paper strips. When pressure canning tomatoes most or all of the vitamin C is destroyed. That is why it is recommended to water bath most tomatoes- to retain as much vitamin C as possible. At least that was my teachings and research.

Becky I learned when gardening that when you make the place to plant your seedlings, water it first before you plant your seedling…it helps them grow well.
Beautiful! The lobelia was on sale because it's a cooler weather plant. It will probably languish if your temps get into the 90s. They will probably be beautiful for you for a good while. I love them, but here in my Texas zone 8 garden they won't last long. I think you're also zone 6 or 7, but probably don't get quite as hot as we do.
Thanks for sharing your greenstalks with us! Just an idea that I did this past summer here is Oz...I made a kitchen garden for my balcony which is closest to my kitchen...all my herbs went into the pots. It was such a great idea that some of my friends did it too, even the ones with no garden, who just had a balcony in an apartment! All we have to do is step outside and snip off what we want. I've now planted some lettuce in a mini lightweight greenhouse out there and just snip off the leaves for a salad. My veggie patch is further away from my kitchen so this worked so well for convenience! Happy planting!
I think your mom should make weekly appearances. Lol. We love her and she is a former Michigander! Love from Birch Run, Mi...we sat together at the homesteaders conference. last Oct.
I wonder what it's like to have parents that have a house. This house has an amazing view and layout and is so well taken care of. Just like Becky's house. Both of the homes featured on Becky's channel are stunning! Definitely rich people goals but it's fun to dream about having land and a beautiful home to entertain! With prices how they are I think dreaming is all people can do! I'm thinking about buying the trellis, I think it'd be easy on a small balcony along with my grow bags. If anyone bought it and has opinions I'd love to hear them. I'm sure everyone has their ups and downs but Becky's life is absolutely amazing, I can't imagine how awesome her childhood was with two working parents and an actual backyard! I'm excited to see more on the landscaping project!
Just a fair warning about the sweet potatoes plants, Jess from Roots and Refuge put a small one in her garden in Arkansas and it over grew most of her cottage garden. Just make sure you plant them where you don’t mind them taking over an area
Becky I blame you for my new passion of planting my own produce. We live in a city in Germany and have one raised bed. Well now I have another big container with trellis for some of the tomatoes I started from seed this year. (I have to admit gifting the surplus of plants is the best part) And a big pot for my windowsill with different mint (you got me with that strawberry mint now I also have pineapple mint and chocolate mint) and my husband just got me a 5 tiered planter (81cm by 50 cm) for lettuce, Chili peppers and herbs. And I have a cheap version of the greenstalk (to see if I like it) for strawberries but I started them a little late so the plants are tiny still 😂
Your parents home is so well taken care of. I believe both your parents work hard to do that. The yard is neat as a pin and so pretty. We haven't seen their whole home, yet what we have seen is beautiful. They also put family first, which is really the most important thing, after God.
I believe the nasturtiums will be more than u need to have the tower look full.. so during the gardening season once u start planting ur new beds u can definitely transplant some of them to the side of ur gardening beds they will look so pretty
Those white strawberries are pineberries, and they taste a bit like pineapple. You have to plant around 4 regular strawberry plants with each pineberry for pollination because pineberries don't self pollinate
I planted my greenstalk last year with strawberries. I didn’t have enough plants for the whole greenstalk so I waited until the runners were long enough to reach an empty pocket. I pinned the new plant in an empty pocket with a landscape staple. Once the new plant was rooted in, I cut off the runner between the mother plant and new plant. My greenstalk should be full by the end of this year.
My goodness did anybody notice the gorgeous view at Becky's mom's house?? Absolutely stunning!!

*Question- What kind of "cherry" or small tomatoes would you recommend planting in the Green Stalk? I bought my mom a GS and she wants to fill it with tomatoes, Strawberries and flowers! 🍅🍓🌷
Becky I learned when gardening that when you make the place to plant your seedlings, water it first before you plant your seedling…it helps them grow well.
I use a mixture of ground beef and Italian sausage in my lasagna. I think the flowers being different varieties will be gorgeous!
LOL, her house and dad's patio 😂 It's good that things are set in stone early on. Nice job with the planting.
Hope you have a fantastic Mother's day
Yes!! My afternoon is complete!!
I think your mom should make weekly appearances. Lol. We love her and she is a former Michigander! Love from Birch Run, Mi...we sat together at the homesteaders conference. last Oct.
I remember you! I think I’ll just make occasional guest appearances! Thank you so much, Susan, Becky’s Mom
I was able to plant some banana peppers this morning. The ground is finally warm enough. The mothers day gift for mom is wonderful.
Love your videos Becky, especially with your mom! Thank you so much for sharing 👍🙏🤗
Thank you so much, Susan, Becky’s Mom
The greenstalks look so pretty!! Try using your crockpot for lasagna soup, it's so good!!
Good to know, I had no idea! Blessings, Susan, Becky’s Mom
You need a sprinkler head on the hose so you can get a spray and won’t overwater 💕
We've started strawberries in our greenstalk. As for your lasagna, I've seen people use frozen ravioli instead of lasagna noodles
Love your mom’s garden just lovely yours too. Not sure if you know but you can eat Nasturtiums they’re not just decorative.
