That shot at 20:01 is perfection. Look at how lined up everything is! Did you ever dream that it would be THAT perfect?? Enjoy it now, before it all moves. ;-) And the landscapers-- this is probably an opus for them. Not many people can handle a garden of this scale and scope. It would be a blessing for their company if you allowed them to have professional photos done when it's in it's glory-- one in mid to late summer and another at fall harvest. Magnificent!!
Q - Have you numbered your raised beds? Just a thought, but if you did, then you can document each of them each year to see their successes over the years. E.G. - 'Bed 1' - have a drawing and sketch out which plants were in it, did it have fabric, soil enhancer etc. You could have a file for each bed and assess as you go.
Hi that is what I had in mind also. Have a sketch of the layout of the garden and the crops in it. Becky, you are so inspiring, and I am always eagerly waiting for the next upload. Remain blessed always.
As an alternative you can buy stainless steel ones, I have some going on 20 years now and they’re awesome! Mine are flatter so veggies don’t spin on the slickers stainless steel skewers. No need to soak!
I recently got a knife from my grandmas kitchen when she passed and i love it. Weight it perfect and it's sharp! Sterling home stainless steel is on the side! I will be looking for the set soon
Thanks for information. I was a bit confused as Becky mentioned in the video it is from South Africa and the link description also says "South African Beef". I'm from South Africa and I know it is not from our region. Will certainly try the recipe this weekend as I love everythimg with peanuts.
I know it from Nigeria. We would buy it from the golf club in Port Harcourt. It is served with chopped onions and tomatoes. We still cook it in Houston. I have never made it with peanut butter, we usually grind up peanuts with ginger, garlic, chilli flakes. It is addict.
Becky, over on Cog Hill Family Farm they recently used their Harvest Right Freeze Dryer to dry sliced zucchini. Some they left plain, some they sprinkled seasoning on. When they tried them they said the seasoned ones were delicious and could easily replace potato chips as a snack. Just another option for preserving your summer squash this year. Your garden is looking awesome.
I'm only about 10min in, but I wanted to say thank you. Because of watching you and trying different recipes and ideas I am so much more comfortable in the kitchen. My big win was when I made a salad dressing for my husband's lunch. It ended up being the talk of his table, and he loved it! And now I know what to do with my carrots. Thanks for inspiring me. ❤
I have always been task oriented & creative my entire life (nothing like you in my later years). I've learned so much from you & wish that I had real life friends like you ❤. You've motivated me so much in my retirement years. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & experiments with us.
All the work you two have put into this major move and upgrade is really taking shape! It is so amazing to watch your dreams come true on video. You two have earned this for sure! Keep up all this good work.
Before I forget to tell you, I was watching a European cook demo-ing various cooking hacks on YT a few days ago and he had a tremendous, easy-peasy, hack for peeling garlic. Since I recall all the angst you and family suffered during your garlic peeling party, I thought you'd want to know. It is simply, put your garlic cloves in a bowl/pot covered with cold water and let sit for 30 minutes. He showed the skins just slide off!! Peeling garlic has always been a huge pain for me too, so was thrilled to see how easy it could be.
I'm so excited to see the journey of those trellises. I hope they work out well. My Grandpa use to keep a trellis of roses and it was the most magical thing to lay under when all the blooms were out.
Being in Tennessee, I got a chuckle when you said it was a really hot day at 84, lol. It's always amazing to me how we vary from climate to climate. The kabobs looked good. Just a tip, when you use wooden skewers, if you soak them in water for about 30 minutes before you use them, they won't burn on the grill.
I love the southern states but I can't tolerate the extreme heat. The last time I was in Mississippi the actual temperature was 105 degrees and the humidity was unbearable. I don't know how people cope with it!
Your garden is absolutely spectacular. I for one am so proud of how far you and Josh have come. It’s been an, exciting, emotional & learning experience ❤
Becky, it's time break out the shorts and tees too hot for dark colors, long sleeves and layers, girl your gonna have heat stroke! Lots of ice cold water too!!!! Your garden is amazing you inspire me! I love the woven weed fabric too I think it gives a garden such a neat look!

Hey Becky! I am so excited to see you trying out one of Africa's dishes. I am from South Africa. You are such an inspiration to me, I have watched all your videos so far and I just enjoy your positivity throughout your videos. I am also a gardener, starting small, but getting there. Hope you have a great day and can't wait for your next video!! ❤
I sprout most of my seeds like that but i put them in a small plastic container. They usually sprout in about 3-5 days. Then into small cups and soil till they grow about 3-5 inches. Then into final containers. They do well that way. Your garden is coming along beautifully.
I was told by a dishwasher repairman to never to put knives or pots and pans in the dishwasher. Along with it being bad for the knives and pans it is also bad on the dishwasher. He said that is the number one thing he tells people. They like to sell the dishwasher saying you can do all of that but in reality it is not good for the dishwasher. I was also told by a long term employee at Macy's not to put the pans in the dishwasher and also the number one thing that destroys the pans are cooking at too high a temperature.
Hi Becky just a thought as l watched you peel your carrots. I don’t peel my carrots, l just give them a good wash and scrub with a scrubby and then use them . Saves waste and also nutrients. 😊
So excited for you Becky . I’ve been sofa bound all day with an injured knee . Thank goodness for your videos . I’ve been catching up all day with some of your previous videos . It’s made the day much more enjoyable. Thankyou ❤
Hello lovely lady! :D Today, I spent my day making several different batches of cookies for my handsome husband and I to celebrate our 32nd anniversary with. This was thanks to you, Becky@AcreHomestead, and your oatmeal chocolate chip recipe. I used it to make a two batches of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Then I added some pecans to make the next couple of batches. After that I added some raisins for another two batches. Then I added some cranberries to make the final two batches that we'll be enjoying over the next week. :D I really appreciate your channel and how much joy you bring to each meal you prep. It has given me an appreciation for cooking and baking that we are grateful for. No more fast food for us, just homemade meals, since I started watching your channel. Thank you for being your fabulous self! :D God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D
Suya is West African and very popular street food in the region. Onions are always eaten with the meat so you were on to something. You paired it well. Rice, a coleslaw and Suya. You have a lovely garden and you have inspired me to think more about where my food is coming from. I have also started planting on my balcony because I live in an apartment in a city. Hopefully, I get my own land do some serious gardening. I love your content. Love from Nigeria
Oh my goodness! That garden and the area around it is so beautiful. Nice and neat. Just gorgeous. I can imagine how lovely it's going to look this summer with all the veggies coming on. Fantastic job, Becky!
Hey Becky, I’ve been enjoying your show for the last few months, so encouraging! Just a little tip, when you are making skewers soak them in water for a few minutes and they won’t burn. I look forward to seeing your beautiful garden grow!😁
Becky, consider getting a Dramm Rain Wand for your watering chores with your hose. I work in a Nursery and Garden Center and this is what we use to water our greenhouse plants, perennials and shrubs. I think you’ll really love it!
Becky, when you want to germinate seeds such as Pumpkin, squash etc, you can nick the little pointed bit very gently. This nick starts the germination a lot better and faster. I also left them on a water soaked paper towel in a sprouting box with the lid on. No germination failures this way.👍🏻😘
The garden is looking amazing! Using that little torch to make the holes was genius, so much easier than the bigger weed burner, and the smaller holes leaves less room for weeds! Dinner looks delicious as well, what a successful day! 👍
Just as a suggestion, if you put your pile of skewers a little ways away from your product and use one skewer to pull away one skewer out of the pile, When you are all done and did not use all the skewers they are clean and you can put them away without having to throw them away because they are not contaminated. Love your videos!! 😃😀
It looks delicious! It's really a joy to watch you cook, Becky. If you want to flavour your rice just a little bit without much effort, you could add 3-4 Cardamom pods while cooking it in the instant pot. I find that it works wonderfully with all kinds of currys and spicy dishes. ☺
Hi Becky! I have a few comments re the landscape fabric. I have several semi-raised beds (1 foot high, 6'x12') that were installed by the former homeowner. I've been using the fabric for 3 yrs, and like you I appreciate the fact it cuts the weeds down. We live in a very windy, grassy area so the grass, nettles and dandelion pollen is constantly flying around. I have learned that when I don't have plants growing in the burned holes, I NEED to cover the holes with something, it only takes a week or so for weeds to go nuts. The other problem I have is that I have to keep the fabric very clean. I can't even leave a small clod of dirt on top as the weeds will germinate in the dirt and grow roots down through the fabric into the soil below. I had weeds growing within a week of the snow melting on the fabric on the beds. It's a pain, yes, but imagine what it would be if I didn't have the fabric on it!!!
I have spuds , garlic and much more planted this year because I love how you teach , ur always consistent nd have so much love for what you do . Thanks Becky .
I have wanted to tell you that you shouldn't put your sharp knives or any wooden utensils in the dishwasher but some people get offended when given suggestions like that. LOL. Also, I think the reason your Dutch whisk broke because of being put in the dishwasher. Your garden is looking spectacular! I hope you have a very successful season after all the hard work and money you and Josh have put into it.
I bought the Nakano knife from your link and got it today!Best knife i ever used!I got the chefs one and it sliced lemon paper thin and a soft tomato perfect!!Love it!Threw out all my other crappy ones.
These is most definitely a dream garden! I absolutely love it and wish i had one like that. If i did i would most definitely garden more. So happy for you and cant wait to see all the harvest you get from it. You are also lucky to have a grow room like you do too.
I just have to tell you how beautiful your garden is! When you first moved there and talked about what your garden would look like, I couldn't visualize it, but I have to say it is beyond beautiful that anything I could imagine. Love seeing you enjoying it so much. 🙂
Hi Becky, I'm a semi new subscriber. I just wanted to comment to let you know how wonderful you are! Not only are your videos incredible but your garden is inspiring and your personality is heartwarming. You just seem like such a bright spirit and you are just the sweetest person! You are a role model for many and I hope you know you're doing amazing!
Your garden is absolutely gorgeous. I would love ❤️ to have a garden similar to yours. I loved my garden in CA. It had sixty-two dwarf and semi-dwarf organic fruit trees. Early, mid-season, and late producers. My three figs gave us at least two crops per tree. I had an herb area, berry, and grape 🍇 vines. I had four 8' X 4' garden boxes and a ten thousand square foot organic in ground garden. I really enjoyed it. My daughters ate from the yard and were fortunate to have a wonderful source of produce. We had food from our yard ten months out of the year. Now that we live in Central Texas, I'm starting over. The ground is limestone rock, so inground planting is not very easy. Seeing your set-up has given me more enthusiasm to go forward and grow an edible yard once again. Thank you for your videos. I totally enjoy them.
Zucchini I love year around. I grate and put in baggies at 2 cups per bag for Zucchini bread and freeze, take it out and thaw using Zucchini liquid and all for making bread. I'm going to try dehydrate some this year to see how it sliced up comes out. Freezing Zucchini and yellow squash sliced is great. Zucchini and yellow squash also with tomatoes minced garlic and onions baked with cheese sprinkled over it and baked.
iI was born and raised in Africa but i live in Sweden now, i make suya always either with meat, chicken or fish, and you can make it in the oven too if you don't feel like grilling. Your garden looks beautiful and all your's and your husband's hard work is showing🤩 Ty for sharing, God bless your family❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not even through this video and SO PROUD of you Becky! Look at what you have accomplished ..love love love the garden, the fencing and the trellises!! Josh is the quiet superstar in the background ..but we appreciate you Josh!! Sending you love and light for much continued success!! 😍
Love that you share your cooking & gardening with us all. I am from South Africa so seeing you enjoy your South African dish with your husband made me very happy. I now live in Richmond, VA. Thanks Becky!
I was so happy to see you handwashing your knives. Also like your danish spoon to mix dough the dishwasher will dry out the glue that holds the metal to the wood. You may want to hand wash that as well. Your recipe sounds delish! Look at your sweet meat pumpkin seeds Yay! Your garden is coming to fruition of your dreams. It looks wonderful! We are putting the landscaping on the raised bed we just built because of you. 😊😊 This week it will feel definitely like summer here in TX forecasted for 99 degree days with humidity. Someone may have already noticed and mentioned the seed under your dishwasher from the view you showed or you may have noticed in editing. Dinner sounded like it turned out.
Seed germination rates depend on how well you prepare your soil and then scrupulously following the directions. Look again at how you proceeded last time and maybe it will work better for you next time. Seed storage also affects germination rates.
The garden is coming together beautifully, Becky.. I'm vicariously living through you for now.. It will be another year and half before we make our big move.
Becky, you are going to love the weed barrier. I love it in my garden. Really reduces the weeding you will have to do. Keeps plants holding water better also. Can’t wait to see your garden grow.
Wonderful tip….if you soak your wood skewer it won’t burn on the bbq. Love watching your channel and can’t wait for the next vid. Thank you for your inspiration. ❤
I’m not crying…😂😂😂 you are! 😂😂😂 ok I forgot the title and got all teary when you said “I have always wanted to have These trellises in my garden” Me: “SAME!!” Hahaha Becky, I am so happy for you and so excited that I can see my future ahead through the lens of your camera. I won’t lie that I also cried when you harvested a beautiful pumpkin at the old homestead. 😂😂😂 So exciting to grow and preserve.
I looked up Wikipedia for definition of this. Short version is “ Suya or tsire is traditional smoked spiced meat skewer which originates in Hausa Land, Northern Nigeria, and is a popular food item across West Africa. Suya (also pronounced Soya) is a large part of Hausa culture and food and is traditionally prepared and made by Hausa men, thus called 'Mai nama' (not women).”. Peanuts or what they refer as ground nuts is a big crop raised in this area and used in local foods. Having lived there for a few years our family learned to incorporate peanut butter in many dishes like groundnut stew with chicken and coconut milk. A bit of peanut butter in any beef stew enriches that dish.
Love the arches, Becky! Can't wait to see beautiful greens grow on them! Also, as a French person, hearing you trying to pronounce "Délice de la table" was very cute haha
I harvested alot of radishes this past weekend i have over 70 potato plants about to be ready for harvest and so much more .thank you Becky for getting me back outside in a garden
The garden looks so beautiful with the arches and panels. And the deer fence too. I see you got a new hat and gave Josh his hat back. The kabobs look delicious.
Every time I see your garden, I just imagine the joy you must be feeling - it is absolutely amazing! You all have just done an amazing job with your design and implementation. Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you for sharing your garden with us!💚
Hello Becky, another trick with the Suya kebab is to use groundnut powder instead of the paste, and you will love it. In West Africa Ghana, this is a very common street food for us and we use the groundnut powder for it. So all you need to do is to put some nuts in your grinder and grind the nuts into powder and add the other ingredients and you are good to go.
Becky, you will love the cucumbers on the trellis, last year ours was prolific. We also set up 4 panels side by side for our blackberries. So full, it is always walking and picking in the shade of the tied down branches.
Just a reminder with the zucchini and yellow squash, you loved having freeze dried shredded summer squash so you could grow however much you need just for freeze drying. Also, a tip with the kabobs, if you soak the skewers an hour+ before putting them on the grill, they won’t burn nearly as much. I love seeing your stunning garden come together & watching your dreams become reality ❤ You are an inspiration to me & I’m beginning to allow myself to dream of a homestead too. Thank you for being you & for inviting us along your journey ❤
Becky is pronounced suu ya. Next time try PB2. It’s pretty hot and it’s a dry rub of sorts you put the meat on a skewer. Slice it thin and cook over hot coals. Most people like it tough. It’s supposed to be dry. We make it all the time. Been married to a Nigerian for 44 years. It’s really a snack with beer
Becky, you made me a believer I never thought I’d like peanut butter on beef but I’m gonna give that recipe a try oh yummy now my husband hates carrots so he probably wouldn’t eat the salad but I’m still making it. Thank you for all you do.
A suggestion u could try for seed gerination ive had alot of success with is using a condiment container with a lid with a slightly moist paper towel on the bottom then the seeds ontop but not covered by the paper towel and then add the lid. It keeps the humidity in and also there isnt any extra work for the seed to have to push through to sprout and it has some room to grow as well so long as the towel is slightly damp 😊
Becky, super excited for your new beautiful garden!! We have a bigger garden this year too me and my grand Littles absolutely enjoy digging and playing in the garden and watching our hardwork and mother nature grow our family veggies and fruit and herbs
Becky I love to watch you cook and I wanted to share a tip I got from Chef Ann Burell years ago . She called it the "thank you for coming" bowl (thanks but I don’t need you for this dish). Its for all the kitchen scraps that accumulate while cooking like carrot tops, peelings, trash from opening containers etc. Put them in the bowl thats close at hand and get them out of the way and less trips to the garbage. Thanks for sharing all your hard work!!
Next time you do wood skewers you should soak them for a few hours so thay don't burn on the bbq or leave wood splinters in the food. I learned that trick from a local bbq restaurant.
Maybe consider washing your rice until the water is clear, put a dash of vinegar, just a bit and one peaked clove of garlic. The rice comes out fluffy, separated and it holds natural flavor. You do not even know you put vinegar. Trust me rice is a staple in our culture, you will love it.
Because I have had Gastric Bypass and also, chewing difficulties, it’s hard to find tender meat. I just read to rub baking soda on your meat and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and season as usual. I am going to try this.
That shot at 20:01 is perfection. Look at how lined up everything is! Did you ever dream that it would be THAT perfect?? Enjoy it now, before it all moves. ;-) And the landscapers-- this is probably an opus for them. Not many people can handle a garden of this scale and scope. Hey Becky! Just a tip with the skewers, soak them in water for about an hour before putting the meat on and grilling and they don't burn so much ❤️
Just was going to tell her this.
I'm wondering if they were presoaked before packaging or something because it's not like becky to not know to do that
If you don't soak them first, I am told that they can catch fire when you use them on a griller.
Hello Becky I hope all is well with Baby Acre
I was going to say the same too. You can use metal skewers right away but you still have to soak wooden skewers before you use them.

Great for crop rotation, as well!
Love this idea.
Yes! Excel is great for that. It helps keep track of that many of beds.
You are gonna have so much to harvest!!! I can't wait! Tip for skewers soak them in water ahead of time so they don't burn on your grill 💚💚💚
Yes I was going to suggest soaking the skewers too. 💜

Wow! Your garden looks amazing! You and Josh do amazing work together! Absolutely love the meal you made! Looks delicious!
Or a bay leaf!
I love how you also watch chef John. I'm so excited about your garden. I've learnt so much from you.
Ugh chef John is the GOAT!!! He was the first person I ever watched on UA-cam and got me to start cooking 🥹🤗
Quick tip, if you soak your skewers in water, they won’t burn on the grill. Looks delicious! Love the gardens too, they are looking so good.
My brother had a small fire in the dishwasher- a wooden spoon started on fire!
I bought the Nakano knife from your link and got it today!Best knife i ever used!I got the chefs one and it sliced lemon paper thin and a soft tomato perfect!!Love it!Threw out all my other crappy ones.
When we do kabobs we use foil wrapped bricks to suspend them over the grill rack. No sticking and great cooking.
These is most definitely a dream garden! I absolutely love it and wish i had one like that. If i did i would most definitely garden more. So happy for you and cant wait to see all the harvest you get from it. You are also lucky to have a grow room like you do too.
Great job Becky and Josh building the trellis'.
Love how often you put your videos up. Thank you.
I absolutely love your show.
I can’t even explain why but it helps me calm down and thank you and your husband for supporting your venture. ❤
Only reason to hurry the summer a little is to see your garden all fill out with crops!🌻
Well done for trying Suya. I love how adventurous you are
iI was born and raised in Africa but i live in Sweden now, i make suya always either with meat, chicken or fish, and you can make it in the oven too if you don't feel like grilling.
Your garden looks beautiful and all your's and your husband's hard work is showing🤩
Ty for sharing, God bless your family❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not even through this video and SO PROUD of you Becky! Look at what you have accomplished ..love love love the garden, the fencing and the trellises!! Josh is the quiet superstar in the background ..but we appreciate you Josh!! Sending you love and light for much continued success!! 😍
Arranging big, BIG, flower bouquets as I play catch up on videos. Soul delight!
The garden is coming along and looks amazing! Can't wait to see your garden when it's in full bloom. And your dinner looked delicious!
Love that you share your cooking & gardening with us all. I am from South Africa so seeing you enjoy your South African dish with your husband made me very happy. I now live in Richmond, VA. Thanks Becky!
Always trying new recipes, you inspire creativity in us all!
Suya is a West African street food delicacy. You should try it with Chef John's Jollof rice recipe. Yum!
Seed germination rates depend on how well you prepare your soil and then scrupulously following the directions. Look again at how you proceeded last time and maybe it will work better for you next time. Seed storage also affects germination rates.
you can use an onion to clean your grill
Hi Becky just a note always good to soak your skewers in water that way they wont burn on the grill! Garden looks beautiful, good job!
Everything looks great. May I suggest soaking your wooden skewers 5-10 minutes before using-they won’t burn.
Wonderful tip….if you soak your wood skewer it won’t burn on the bbq. Love watching your channel and can’t wait for the next vid. Thank you for your inspiration. ❤
I’m not crying…😂😂😂 you are! 😂😂😂 ok I forgot the title and got all teary when you said “I have always wanted to have These trellises in my garden”
Me: “SAME!!”
Hahaha
Becky, I am so happy for you and so excited that I can see my future ahead through the lens of your camera.
I won’t lie that I also cried when you harvested a beautiful pumpkin at the old homestead. 😂😂😂
So exciting to grow and preserve.
Hi Becky if you soak the wooden skewers in water before you need to use them they won’t burn when you cook the kebabs on the grill.
I love seeing your stunning garden come together & watching your dreams become reality ❤
You are an inspiration to me & I’m beginning to allow myself to dream of a homestead too. Thank you for being you & for inviting us along your journey ❤
Everything is looking stunning Becky.
Can’t wait to see how productive your garden becomes, it’s gonna be a great growing season
The garden looks amazing!!
I m enjoying your videos and learning English. Thank you
Becky, super excited for your new beautiful garden!!
I love the trellises ! Can’t wait to see the plants grow on them .
Maybe consider washing your rice until the water is clear, put a dash of vinegar, just a bit and one peaked clove of garlic. The rice comes out fluffy, separated and it holds natural flavor. You do not even know you put vinegar. Trust me rice is a staple in our culture, you will love it.
Wow Becky, the garden and pots are looking so beautiful! I'm very excited for you!! All the hard work is paying off. 👩🌾🐔🌽🍅🫑🥕🥒🥬🥦
Love that all things are coming together Becky. You are so adventurous with your cooking.
Everyone needs a Josh in their garden. 🙂
You all are amazing! Love seeing josh and you working together. Hugs from nashville tn!
Because I have had Gastric Bypass and also, chewing difficulties, it’s hard to find tender meat. I just read to rub baking soda on your meat and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and season as usual. I am going to try this.
