Finn didn't forget. He lived to at least 80 and Jake died when he was 20-30. Finn carried that grief with him for 50+ years and never moved on, wishing every single day to die so he could see his brother and be "Together Again". That was literally the entire point of the episode, Finn learning to accept his grief, move on and then they both end up reincarnating together to do it all over again. Finn and Jake have found each other through multiple lifetimes and share a bond beyond that of space and time. In a past life Finn was Yoko and Jake was her tiger. Even in an alternate universe Finn and Jake were together. Finn would NEVER forget.
@TheCarash That was also a theme of the episode. Finn knew that Jake would want him to continue on and live a strong, full life. Therefore Finn would have never killed himself or intentionally try to die, but he did wish for it to end, all to see his brother again. It's an extremely tragic end to such joyous and excited characters, neither of the boys deserved the suffering that they experienced. I'm just glad they got a happy ending, even if it is EXTREMELY bittersweet.

What’s even more heartbreaking is when he speaks on missing jake his WHOLE LIFE. Jake died maybe around when finn was 18-20. Distant lands helps confirm this as you see him show up to help Marcy and pb with jakes grandaughter and he has a tattoo of jake on his chest all while looking like he’s maybe 27-30. But even after living to be what looks like 80-100, meaning about 60 years of not having jake around, as soon as he realizes he’s dead he cheers and takes off running, screaming for his child hood best friend that he’s missed all of his life.

That isn't being desensitized to such deaths. It only means that enough time has passed to ease the pain. I am sorry for your loss. I just don't want you walking around thinking you are desensitized to such things. You only had one brother named Jake. Every death hits in its own special way. Being old I have found life starts to take more and more away from me. Where as the start of my life was full of new people and places. The end of my life is watching everyone I ever cared about die and all the places I love change and become something different. It never gets any easier. Unless you have a screw loose.
That episode is so upsetting but it’s so funny when Finn found out that Jake could’ve ghost called him and Finn was all mad and Jake just said “I thought it would be to creepy” it really shows both of their characters
I like that once he rips the bug off, we see him immediately regain his composure and be comforted by what's actually real (even though he's dead here). It shows that it's still our boy, and he still grounds himself in "reality" when things get weird. He's got some heavy stuff on his mind for sure, like the pain of losing Jake and living without him. But, seeing that he was old, Jake was dead, and everything was back to normal was a relief to him. That's such good characterization because it immediately shows the growth Finn went through throughout the entire original series. He went from being emotionally dependent on Jake and having genuine problems connected with the idea of separation, to being relieved when recognizing he was still dead. I love this show so much dude fuck
Adventure Time really lulled you into thinking it would just be some absurdist fantasy cartoon. When really it was a post apocalyptic and chaotic war zone were the main characters were remnants of a world that truly did not care about them. Marceline and her mom. PB and her candy family. Finn and Jake truly brought some hope into the world. And even they had their end. Jeremy did not have to go so hard with voice acting 😭✋ the show was just way too good for no reason. And the special where Jake remembers Finn is just.. this is how you pay homage to not only the viewers childhoods but the relationup between two best bros

Yeah, that's exactly where it took me as well, friend. I've lost countless people, but something (and honestly has nothing to do with the fact that Jake is a dog) about the horrific realization Finn experiences, that Jake is gone and he's alone, took me to a similar experience I had endured countless times after my dog passed away a few years ago. I guess technically it does get easier as time goes on, but nonetheless it's still extremely difficult to cope and deal with the fact that he's gone. I bonded with my animal in a way that greatly exceeds that which could established with any human being. And unfortunately there's times, although less common now, where for whatever reason, I've momentarily forgotten about losing him, and hence as far as I know in the moment, he's still with me. It only lasts for just a moment, but it's very bittersweet, because in the moment, I csnt appreciate the feeling that he's still here and nothing is wrong, because I havent yet realized it's a dream/illusion. And when I do realize it, it's hard to enjoy the slight feeling I just had, of having him back, over the realization that the whole thing wasn't real anyway, and that he's gone. Quite a torturous experience, I must say. Sometimes I wonder why I have to go through this, even on top of the pain of losing him in the first place. And although I haven't really discovered a solid answer to that question, I do consider that "Hey, if this is the price I have to pay, in addition to the sorrow of loss, for all the 7+ years that I had with him, and all the healing, companionship and other things I got to experience while he was with me, then not only is it worth paying, but I'd pay it several times over if I had to. So, I guess ultimately what I'm trying to convey here, is that I know that thinking about the loss really hurts your heart, and there's nothing wrong with crying it out and dealing with that grief, just try to focus on the good times you had, and not lose your memories with that animal. Because if that friend meant as much to you as they surely did, then the positive experiences and memories should outweigh the pain of loss, and thus help you to get through it. Much love, I know what you're going through and I hope any of that which I've said helps you any amount at all. You'll get through it 🥹🥲

It's Finn coming to terms and accepting that death comes for everyone, that it's scary and sad but something every living creature will experience, and that just because someone you love isn't here anymore, it doesn't mean they're gone. They're always with you, and always will be.
I didn't understand why jake would have a shorter life since he was like half sentient dog. It was hard to finish the show, but it was nice to know that Finn and Jake's souls were linked in a sense.

What’s even more heartbreaking is when he speaks on missing jake his WHOLE LIFE. Jake died maybe around when finn was 18-20. Distant lands helps confirm this as you see him show up to help Marcy and pb with jakes grandaughter and he has a tattoo of jake on his chest all while looking like he’s maybe 27-30. But even after living to be what looks like 80-100, meaning about 60 years of not having jake around, as soon as he realizes he’s dead he cheers and takes off running, screaming for his child hood best friend that he’s missed all of his life.

I like that once he rips the bug off, we see him immediately regain his composure and be comforted by what's actually real (even though he's dead here). It shows that it's still our boy, and he still grounds himself in "reality" when things get weird. He's got some heavy stuff on his mind for sure, like the pain of losing Jake and living without him. But, seeing that he was old, Jake was dead, and everything was back to normal was a relief to him. That's such good characterization because it immediately shows the growth Finn went through throughout the entire original series. He went from being emotionally dependent on Jake and having genuine problems connected with the idea of separation, to being relieved when recognizing he was still dead. I love this show so much dude fuck

Adventure Time really lulled you into thinking it would just be some absurdist fantasy cartoon. When really it was a post apocalyptic and chaotic war zone were the main characters were remnants of a world that truly did not care about them. Marceline and her mom. PB and her candy family. Finn and Jake truly brought some hope into the world. And even they had their end. Jeremy did not have to go so hard with voice acting 😭✋ the show was just way too good for no reason. Yeah, that's exactly where it took me as well, friend. I've lost countless people, but something (and honestly has nothing to do with the fact that Jake is a dog) about the horrific realization Finn experiences, that Jake is gone and he's alone, took me to a similar experience I had endured countless times after my dog passed away a few years ago. I guess technically it does get easier as time goes on, but nonetheless it's still extremely difficult to cope and deal with the fact that he's gone. I bonded with my animal in a way that greatly exceeds that which could established with any human being. And unfortunately there's times, although less common now, where for whatever reason, I've momentarily forgotten about losing him, and hence as far as I know in the moment, he's still with me. It only lasts for just a moment, but it's very bittersweet, because in the moment, I csnt appreciate the feeling that he's still here and nothing is wrong, because I havent yet realized it's a dream/illusion. And when I do realize it, it's hard to enjoy the slight feeling I just had, of having him back, over the realization that the whole thing wasn't real anyway, and that he's gone. Quite a torturous experience, I must say. Sometimes I wonder why I have to go through this, even on top of the pain of losing him in the first place. And although I haven't really discovered a solid answer to that question, I do consider that "Hey, if this is the price I have to pay, in addition to the sorrow of loss, for all the 7+ years that I had with him, and all the healing, companionship and other things I got to experience while he was with me, then not only is it worth paying, but I'd pay it several times over if I had to. So, I guess ultimately what I'm trying to convey here, is that I know that thinking about the loss really hurts your heart, and there's nothing wrong with crying it out and dealing with that grief, just try to focus on the good times you had, and not lose your memories with that animal. Because if that friend meant as much to you as they surely did, then the positive experiences and memories should outweigh the pain of loss, and thus help you to get through it. Much love, I know what you're going through and I hope any of that which I've said helps you any amount at all. You'll get through it 🥹🥲

Huh? That's the whole point of this episode. It's Finn coming to terms and accepting that death comes for everyone, that it's scary and sad but something every living creature will experience, and that just because someone you love isn't here anymore, it doesn't mean they're gone. They're always with you, and always will be.

This video just made me so sad man, I used to watch this show as a kid and I never knew Jake was dead.
Let me tell you, this is what made me break down into tears today.
I didn't understand why jake would have a shorter life since he was like half sentient dog. It was hard to finish the show, but it was nice to know that Finn and Jake's souls were linked in a sense.
This was so sad but meaningful to watch because of how it was a part of my childhood, love this show and the distant lands series
