I like how we got 2 adult Finn design from the show. It really shows us what Finn would look like as a Adult in two different scenarios and environment
Yeah in dungeon train we see him too
@isaiahcomfort2931 p sure the person mean two canon versions of him grown up making it to where we can see him in different parts of his life
As others pointed out we have several so that's 20s Finn, Old Finn (only "true" timeline ones), Pilllow Finn, Dungeon Train Finn. You could also count Farm World Finn as kind of an alternate Finn. A cool video for this channel would be to compare and contrast all of them "The Many Lives of Finn Mertens" or something like that.

I’m not sure if Finn’s grief actually changed any between Obsidian and Distant Lands. Much of the more emotional moments for Finn in Distant Lands were when he was dealing with Jake directly, whether it be in the hallucination or in the dead worlds. Finn, before he realized that he was dead, seemed to carry a similar demeanor as he displayed in Obsidian as he removed the hallucination creatures from himself and the others there with him.
distant lands is the name of the series. the name of the episode you're searching is "together again"
@@BreaksBee you right
Maybe he lived his life in waves. Sometimes he was okay and accepted Jake’s death. Other times. He had his difficult periods where his BFF’s death haunted him.
In Fiona and cake, Finn was shown running alongside Jake with the tattoo
5:26 I'm not gonna lie BMO forgetting Jake's name and remembering him as Jermaine makes so much sense 🤯
I mean... at the end of the day, Jake's a dog, mutant, magic, alien or not, his lifespan was always going to be much lower than Finn's.
I estimate based on his appearance at the end of BMO, that Jake was about 10 years older than Finn, and we know his age was about 28 when Finn was 12, but he was in his 40's when Finn was 17, so Jake aged over 12 years in 5 years.
I imagine he died of old age, likely around 70 dog years? But for Finn, that was only 10 more human years at a stretch (ha, wordplay).
The only wrinkle in the calculator is we don't know how Rainicorn genes affect the speed of aging or how long lived they are.
Yeah, that's fair
I believe because of Jake's wife all the children have almost infinite lifespans, but this is just my belief since unicorns are supposed to live veeeeery long. Millennia really.
@@robertwolfgan yeah, like we know Gibbon is near a thousand years old at the very least, but we don't know if that's because he has a jewel from the ice crown embedded in his eye or not
In the Infinity Train episode, the future crystal shows both Finn and Jake being old together. So Jake could have lived as long as Finn. But that might have been part of the train's magic.
Honestly, none of Jake's kids came off as "adventurers like their father". And the relationship between Jake and his granddaughter... It wasn't shocking to see her tagging along with Finn.
She looked embarrassed when she ran out
after seeing the Prismo episode of Fionna & Cake where Prismo is watching Jake's greatest hits, we see Finn already has the tattoo. and lol yeah it is incredibly in character for Finn to have gotten a Jake tattoo even while Jake was still alive
I like to think the "FIN JER" sign spelled
FINN
BY JERMAINE
because the fallen statues are quite far away from each other and face different directions, which could mean they weren't on the same platform so it would make sense to have them signed separately. I saw this theory in a comment somewhere and i really liked it, credit goes to them.
That could actually make sense- Jermaine is an artist after all.
@@HouseRevolterhey thats true, this actually makes it more comforting
It is captivating how they didn't forgot about Finn. In Obsidian, It is still funny how he and his team care after the whole event.

I think it’s just like he said at the end. It’s his feelings deep down. It was rough for him to move on and we don’t know how long it took him, but he seams to be fine as an adult. I think the way he was in Together again was because those bugs had just dug up his feelings. He was ready to get those people out of there by himself. It was only when he was told it was the afterlife he went to see Jake.
I think Finn and Jake were buried in different graves. I remember one of the adventure time writer shared a concept showing what happened when Jake eventually died:
When he passed they at first had a funeral for him, but then his body began uncontrollably stretching bigger.
Princess Bubblegum then took Jake’s body to the crater on the Earth filling it. His body then decomposed creating a new continent.
Oh wow OnO this is so emotional for me, where did you get this?
The continent of Jake?
The continent of PanJake? JakeCake?

As far as I remember it, it was still just a theory
Gravestones often leave space to carve in another name, whether it’s a partner, child, or sibling, I think it’s less likely that BMO made the stone and misremembered Jake’s name and more likely that there is a good chunk of the stone missing that also says Jake on it.
@@powwjanspwoskdosdjxk6361 I'm being harassed by Christian robots
Finn and Jermaine probably died around the same time, so having a shared tombstone makes sense because they're brothers. Also my theory is that Jake died after eating the 50 flavor ice cream seen in Finn's nightmare, which contains chocolate.
didn't he eat chocolate ice cream in that one episode with the 3 beans?
I think the 50 flavor ice cream is just bcus he is in the 50th death world
I like the canon death of Jake. Or rather, what happened to his remains. Filling up the whole left in Ooo after the mushroom war.
6:20 it could be that since jake died before finn, he got buried and had a solo tombstone but maybe jermaine and finn died together or at a nearer time point so they got buried under same tombstone
I deadass cry every time I hear come along with me😭 the nostalgia hit too hard
One of if not the best animated childrens/adults show ive ever watched in full. Ive laughed, cried, laughed again. Thank you Adventure Time!
I strongly believe jake didn't die naturally most likely in a battle or something which would make more sense because there's so much evidence he should live as long as friend because of his powers

I agree! And thank you!!!
the fionna and cake show reveals that finn got that tatto before jake died, as we see the two of them escaping some place with a (not so much) egg, meaning that although jake DID dieit wasnt before finn got the tattoo
at 7:19 there's a duck in the background of the deadlands that's got a charlie brown shirt on.
Yikes man Finn just can’t catch a break even as a adult man
Fr.
He never want to anyway
The rock with fin and jer in the intro also confused me. Also made me curious.
If according to the last drawings of Jake's funeral and him growing out of proportions and PB pushing him down the big hole the Planet had on its side filling up completely is canon, maybe he didn't get a statue or a grave on his honor.
I think as Finn and Jermaine could have been buried together as they are also brothers. Or maybe Jermaine decided to follow his brothers steps as an "adventurer" and they left a big footprint on the world. Enough to get the recognition in a statue.
Or maybe BMO just didn't want to forget..
Love the amount of power they have of letting the viewer make their decisions and theories.
Fionna and Cake releases to visitors of SDCC in two days, hope you guys are ready! 🎉
I can't wait
Its likely that Jake died less than 7 years after the humans came back considering how finn decided to morph back to his younger self when he was looking for jake
This is a pretty good video essay but realistically, the writers weren't really thinking about the two episodes in connection's with one another. No one in the writers room remembered Finn's cameo in the last few minutes of obsidian. He has no tattoo and has his robot arm again to make him look morel like he did at the end of the main series.
He does have the tattoo though. It's hard to see because of his long beard.
He's probably not wearing his arm in Obsidian because he clearly just got out of the shower when Simon went to get him, so he just didn't bother to put it back on
Maybe, just maybe, Jake was not dead but retired from adventure, and his granddaughter took his role? It would explain why Finn started to feel sad much later than we see in Obsidian
I think Finn's life is so tragic after Jake's death because Jake was so integral to his life. Jake is his brother but he's so, so much more.
Getting over his fear of Shoko in "The Vault"? That was because of Jake. Jake did so much to help Finn deal with so many repressed emotions. He always had Finn's back without Finn needing to ask. Joshua and Margaret dying? Jake was right there with him. Getting over Bubblegum? Jake is his wingman to help him court Flame Princess. Losing his right arm and meeting his wad of a dad? Again, Jake's right there to hug him. Losing the Treehouse first to Marceline and then again at the end of the series? He still had Jake.
But there was no Jake to help him through the loss of Jake. Yeah, there was PB and Marceline and BMO and Huntress Wizard, but they can't hold a candle to Jake. Jake had this amazing ability to let Finn process things in his own way and then guide him through it.
I feel like PB would be too hands-on, trying to be supportive but not letting him process things in his own way. Marcy and HW would just let him do whatever but not ask the tough questions Jake would.
Yeah, Finn still lived his life. But without Jake by his side, it was like everything had lost a little bit of color. It's still life but it's not as good.
That's make sense as Finn isn't going to be the same after Jake's death.
Here's something no one seems to have thought of, maybe that whole Hallucination about the 50 flavor could be an indication of how old jake was(in dog years)when he died as shown on the tub of ice cream on 8:02
Piggy backing off of the ice cream, I think they were on an Ice cream related adventure, like the pod episode in season 1 for told times sake, and Jake might have passed before Finn could get him the ice cream, which might explain why Finn is just so guilt ridden and distraught in the beginning, he never got to properly say goodbye to his brother and animals just know when it's their time. Jake probably knew he didn't have long left so he tried to go on this adventure with Finn, only to never enjoy the ice cream with him, but to Jake, maybe that's all he needed, to be with his brother, one last time.
I think he’s in his 20-30 in adventure time distant lands ep. obsidian. In Finn and cake ep. 2 he is 40.
I always thought , and still think, that the last time we see them together and other characters is when they are all dead was a BAD idea. It was a bummer man. We got no hints of their lives after the show and it all acted as if every character just met their end at the end of the show and we see Finn trying to find Jake. Of course we see him as an old man, but that was literally it. We got to see Finn live to old age, but what about other family or friends?? Jermaine is there and just get hand waved away even though they presumably had a statue together. I don't think it was well thought out and the cycle of life and death felt pointless and confusing.
It hard cutting to 1000 years in the future where they were all dead and then BMO couldn’t remember Finns name made me so depressed.
Guys, that's just life.(Although in this series we actually got a continuation so it's less depressing)
The re-incarnation thing was neither pointless nor confusing. But i can see why you might have wanted it to be more lighthearted.
At least Finn still alive as a sword the FinnSword in the final ep final season but still this tv show from just 2 brothers adventuring together in the Land of Ooo without any connection or context turns into episodic and deeper into character and lore
I don't find it too likely that BMO made giant statues (I'm surprised you mentioned the words but not the giant statues next to them)... BMO is never shown to have that level of skills and perseverance. Things BMO make tend to be haphazard and rely on BMOs imagination. There's also no reason to assume it's a grave. I'll call it statues, but it could also be a grave. Either way my points would be the same. Usually graves *aren't* giant statues and there are no signs of graves around the area though.
I think that's meant to be a statue celebrating Finn and... someone, celebrating their heroism. Possibly built by Candy Kingdom or some other group they were heroes to. The fact that it's crumbled fits with the same lesson the show is always giving of everything being temporary. I say Finn and "someone" because Jermaine is an artist, and may well have designed the statue depicting Finn and Jake, but with his name on it as well, being the artist. An inscription like:
Finn the Human & Jake the Dog
Jermaine the Dog, artist
It's also possible that Finn teamed up with Jermaine at some point, at least in one instance, where Jermaine and he did something heroic enough to have statues of them made. Or just that the statues were of Finn, Jake, and Jermaine and we don't just don't see the second dog statue.
Another theory is that it was made hundreds of years after either of their death by some group celebrating them as ancient heroes and who mixed up Jermaine and Jake in the historical records. Honestly this last one might fit best with the philosophy and sense of humor the show has.
I personally though think the first thing I listed is the most likely possibility because it depicts Finn as dressed in his very young years clothes and so may have been made shortly after the finale or Jake's death. I'd guess a statues made hundreds of years later, or after aging Finn died might have him dressed differently.
Love your videos!
Edit: PS while googling around to see other people discussing this, I also came across someone pointing out that the S3 episode "Still" has a title card with a statue of Finn and Jake that fits fairly well with the ones shown in the finale (except the right and left arm of Finn would've been switched). Not exactly evidence of canon, but it's the closest other reference to a Finn statue I think. People have pointed out that the statue in that title card is similar to the famous Disneyland statue "Partners"... and the shattered statues arm that mismatches the Still title actually fixes the main difference that was between the Still image and the Partners statues... this is probably TMI and hard to follow but I went down a bit of a rabbit hole.
Yeah, I think I agree, BMO making these massive statues seems a bit of a stretch. And you're right about them being more like statues than graves, but regardless of what they are, they clearly mean something. I also never really noticed but you're right, the statue of Finn does look like his old clothes, which is interesting. Love that you're into the videos! Thank you for commenting as well! I love talking everything Adventure Time!!!
, I had never knew. Distant lands existed so. I. Just kept on watching adventure time. But when I found out about it I immediately watched distant lands. Together again brought me to tears I never cry about books or shows but the brought me to tears. I watch adventure time over and over each year too.
After watching all of Distant Lands here’s my theory: Together Again takes place before Obsidian and Finn and Jake aren’t reincarnated, Finn asks for another chance to live his life the right way not being paralyzed by grief after Jake’s passing, so the version we see in Obsidian and later Fiona and Cake is the content Finn who had the experience of dying and choosing to live again the right way. Just my thoughts though! Would love to discuss
I heard Lumpy Space Princess is going to host the VMAs.
While this video came out before the trailer for Fionna and Cake i did want to mention that in it shows a glimpse of Finn and Jake with Finn having that tattoo while Jake is still alive, granted we have to wait for the show to come out to see if its cannon but

I thought that could have been another universe where Jake came back to life, since prismo used that screen to watch alternate timelines where wishes are granted

@@aquaberryshark5798 true, scratch that
Im not sure writers could properly show the death of Jake in an overt way, this really is the best they could do. Just keeping it subtle
BMO is also ever aging hardware and I assume some sort of AI gaming software. So the fact they forgot Fin and Jake's names doesn't Surprise me.
You gotta watch Fionna and cake it gives more explanation for old Finn
Good theory and all, but i think jake just died of old age. Pup people seem to grow up really fast. So i assumed they only live as long as normal dogs
I feel like with each season, Finn ages one year while Jake ages 10 years
@@yttrash565I think maybe it's closer to 6 or 7 years like real dogs. Because we see him at the end of Distant Lands: BMO when it looks like he's coming to the end of his "rebellious teen phase" by raising Finn (who looks like he could be 8 or 9). But with alien DNA, who knows for sure.
I totally forgot to add this in the video, but we've seen both Finn and Jake grow old together. In the "Dungeon Train" episode, the crystal ball shows their future if they stayed on the train. It's an old Finn still fighting monsters, with an old Jake right by his side. I totally should have brought that up, but I missed it
It makes me sooooooo sad the Finn didn’t love our a full happy life because he definitely deserved it.
This is so beautiful to see all of the characters as adults 😢
I never thought about it that BMo got the names wrong on the statue
You simply don'y get a tattoo of someone who's still alive.
People do that all the Time
I've seen it. Usually it's girlfriends or babies though.
In the new fiona and cake prismo is watching finn and jake going on adventure while he has the tattoo
Oh wow. I had believed that Jake had died of old age personally. From the references to 50 flavored ice cream I figured he died at or at least around that age, and Jake's crawling toward the grave while assuring Fin that this is the way it has to be was symbolic of how old Jake had to break the news to Fin that he was dying, that he couldn't go on adventures anymore due to his age (especially how it showed Fin dragging Jake around, and Jake telling him that he's slowing him down), and that Fin needs to accept this. Fin's denial showed how at the time he refused to allow this to be the case up until the last moment.
Also to touch on Fin's mental state, it is told directly to us that Fin constantly went adventuring to fill the void that Jake's death left, and the whole time he was waiting eagerly to die (not trying to die per say but he was excited for his eventual ->)so he could reunite with Jake. The maturity from the old Fin was him still waiting, and he was so excited when he realized he was dead because it's what he had been waiting for all that time. While Fin had matured a lot over the years, and was able to maintain himself and his relationships, he had never left Jake behind emotionally.
I always thought Jake died of old age. He complains often about getting older, "coming to terms with my aging body" and whatnot. He is after all half dog. Dogs don't live as long as humans do. Finn is still a teenager when Jake is complaining about his old bones.
finn literally cant get a break in the later seasons
It's weird how everyone says how Jake is Finn's best friend. Although true, they are actually brothers. Finn was raised from a baby buy Jake's parents and it seems like people forget that for some reason. They are a lot closer than just best friends
The tattoo was actually tattooed to him before jake dying prismos actually watch a clip of them
the new Fionna and cake show has a moment where its finn in his 30s to 40s with Jake but he hasn't been on a adventure in a while
In Fiona and cake it was seen finn had the jake tatoo before jake died

1:58 Ineresting but what if Finn got the tat so show how much he loves and appreciates Jake and this would makes a ton of sense since Jake would be somewhere spending time with his fam or something also this clear things up. I feel like it was more than a "couple" years...
Definitely far from tragic. Just real story telling, mortals living alongside “immortals” life isn’t fair and will keep going. Looking further into this, the creators allowed many of us to grow up along side Jake and Finn. So ideally once the series comes to an end, we all have matured to handle such. This closure was well needed, not only have Finn and Jake defied death by bringing him down (which was hard as f@$!). They are able to reincarnate together yet again. This storyline of the duo is a fairytale compared to Forever Sleeping Jake and Fern who was blended up. Great video, keep it up!
