Fun fact: when Bruce Willis was filming the scene where he’s telling Grace he won’t be coming home, he was actually talking to a photo of his own daughter. So that emotion is very real in that scene 🙂

Just watched Deep Impact with you, so headed over here for Armageddon. I think I remember liking Deep Impact better, but also enjoying this one too. Looking forward to watching it with you again.
If you want to continue this comparison trend, watching the 1997 movies Volcano and then Dante's Peak back to back would be awesome too! Similar break down - one (Volcano) more of an action movie, one more of a drama (Dante's Peak)
    Here we go!

look at the movies now and look at Armageddon (1998).
aside from exaggeration and the science part (as for ALL movies), it has everything else achieved and achieved in 1998 :-
story, script, character development, seriousness, very fun, jokes lines that are funny, jokes delivered well, very engaging, suspense, music, actor actress tip top performance, emotions, relationships, the props and sets and visuals are really good for 1998.
I was never disengaged or bored in 2.5 hrs, the sequence of events & decisions made are all natural, logical and realistic mostly, aside from intentional comedic moments.
The camera shots and editing is so well done.
and can you imagine that Michael Bay said this was his "worst" movie to date (as at 1998) because he was given only 4 months for shooting and he was not satisfied.

A big part of why this movie is edited so frantically is because it was rushed by the studio to make a release deadline, and they gave them only 2 weeks to make it. Yep they filmed this entire thing in fourteen days lol. For context that’s 4 days less than the time they had to prepare for the asteroid in the movie

Near-Earth asteroids are kept track of, however most are only discovered when they are near Earth. It's quite ironic how both movies deal with the difference in discovery time before impact.
Realistically in either case though, there would be very little we could do to deflect it. The most feasible option in an _E.L.E._ would be to have the most time possible to establish a long-term Lunar colony, with the means to return later if cataclysmic conditions improve.

The actor's name is William Finchner, a famous character actor that many people recognize from the HBO series Entourage, and movies like The Perfect Storm with George Clooney, Heat with Robert DeNiro, Contact with Jodie Foster, and Go with Jay Mohr and Scott Wolf. He also starred in a couple of TV shows. Invasion, and Grace Under Fire.

    'Jen and me.'
(Sorry, sometimes the English teacher in me breaks out of his cage.)
Great reaction (came here from Airplane!) to a film I've always enjoyed. The opening narration is by the great Charlton Heston who in his later years starred in a couple of disaster movies, 'Earthquake' and 'Airport 75'. I suspect them would seem rather tame and slow if watched now but maybe worth a look if you're doing a deep dive.

      @TaraTunesIn  2 роки тому +2

Lol you’re not the first person to correct this, although it depends on which instance you are correcting. I say “Jen and I” twice and once it is correct, while the other is incorrect.

You put “them” instead of “they”

@@TaraTunesIn Ha, that's called the Corrector's Karma - someone writes in to correct someone's grammar, and makes a mistake themselves.
      Himself? Themself? Aagh.
The way to look at it is, what would you say if the other person wasn't there? You'd never say, 'Tune in for more from I', so you can't say 'Jen and I'. You say 'me' in both instances.
But on the other hand, you'd never say. ''Me did a show.' So you can't say 'Jen and me did a show'. It's 'Jen and I'.
I think some people's reluctance to say 'me', even when it's correct, dates from childhood when we said, 'Me want drink', 'Me want the bathroom' and were gently corrected, 'No, dear, it's 'I'."
Anyway, it was a great show and I will be watching more, and I won't mention grammar again.

DUDE I’ve seen this movie so many times and this must be like the extended edition because there are several scenes that I have never seen before including Billy Bob Thornton saying that he would love to have that patch from the mission. Which makes sense that when Bruce Willis sacrifices himself he says to give the patch to Billy Bob Thornton. But in the hundred times that I’ve seen that movie it never had that line of dialogue so it never made any sense why he was giving him a patch.

Actually the DEFCON scale get worse as the numbers get lower. So DEFCON 1 is the worst.
DEFCON 5 is blue - peace time
DEFCON 4 is green - and it's for heightened military awareness - the first stage of threat.
DEFCON 3 is yellow - military is ready to deploy within 15 minutes
DEFCON 2 is orange - This would be in cases such as the Cuban Missile crisis
DEFCON 1 is red - the maximum state of alertness in cases such as full all out nuclear war

Ben Affleck asked in a meeting: "Would it not be easier and quicker to train astronauts to drill, then to train oil-rigg drillers to become astronauts?" Answer from the producers: "Would it not be easier to shut up, star in the movie and get paid, instead of getting fired the first day?".

A scientifically idiotic but nevertheless fun movie, I've seen it several times. And the thing that probably cracks me up most every time I do is that on a space mission where every ounce of cargo has to be carefully assessed and accomdated for they decided they were going to need to bring along a gatling gun. And I understand they needed to be prepared for every contingency. But a gatling gun?! What in God's name were they expecting to find on this asteroid that would require a gatling gun?!

I like catastrophic movies! Ithink that you could make some really fun reactions to that kind of movies!
