For livestreaming, I've been outputting using the micro usb port in my Canon 90D. I decided to "upgrade" my setup by purchasing an Elgato Cam Link + Mini HDMI export cable.
I love Elgato products, I've been using their Key Lights and Stream Deck for years. For some reason though, my camera quality now looks worse when using the Cam Link + Mini HDMI. The colors seem more muted. I've played around with the color settings in OBS (4:30 section of the vid) but that hasn't seemed to help. Any thoughts?
One quick thought I had; my canon doesn't have a "Standard Video Mode" like you referenced in 1:20 . Most of the time I've kept it set to the green A+. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the green A+ mode lets you export clean HDMI output. Instead I've set the camera to "TV" Mode. Maybe this is driving it?

Thank you for your tutorial video. I do have a question regarding this topic. I have a CANON G7X Mark 2, setup with OBS just like you explained. However, after a couple of minutes, I get an error screen. similar to a TV error screen.. Do you know why that happens?

Yes but it looks better with the cam link. A lot better.
I have a canon T8i. It has USB 2.0. Data bandwidth limits the video output resolution to 1024x576. HDMI video output resolution is 1920x1080.

No HDR
Set to manual if you want to set exposure levels, aperture, etc
Go to camera menu
Google “How to turn on clean HDMI out” for your camera
We don’t want the screen info to show on the output - “clean”
Clean full HD output
Hooking up to the computer
Camera micro HDMI > CamLink HDMI > PC USB
Don’t run camera on low battery
Low battery may flash on screen
Get AC adapter as a dummy battery that gives your camera continuous power
Getting the camera output into OBS
Add a new video capture device
Select CamLink 4K
Change resolution to match camera
Set FPS to “Match Output FPS”
Color space 709, Color Range Full

I know this is old but what cameras would you recommend? I have a ton of Nanoleafs behind my setup and all of my webcams just can’t support the brightness unless it’s down to like 5%. Would a digital camera work or is it best to get a dslr

What about the audio? Does the audio signal transfer across the Cam link?
I think most can skip to the 4 minute mark to get the needed info. Not trying to be rude, just saying, most cameras have streaming utilities, and the plus button in OBS got me there in 2 seconds.

How do you set the parameters on the video quality and especially make it so that when you reboot your computer the Akaso comes up automatically as a USB camera. For me, I have to choose from the camera menu each time to make it be a "PC Camera". I just want that to be automatic, as well as the parameters in the camera to stay what I set them for. Can I do that?

Hello, I have a problem with my camera and I hope you have a solution.
When I want to use the Elgato Camlink, the problem is that the Display is displayed, "raw". For example, if I activate the video mode, the rendering will be different, the colours will vary a little, the "grains" will disappear etc", the quality is much better. Quick question for ya: At 2:31 in, after you are scrolled down on "Clean / FHD output" it says "HDMI output without info disp." And specifically this note: "Movie recording and wireless communication not available." Am I to understand that on this setting pushing "Record" on my Canon EOS M50 Mk II will not do anything? I'm new to the M50. Very clear and concise how to!

I didn’t realize that even though it can hook itself up to the computer and look fine, it’s not as good as the cam link.
But now my image is super zoomed in on me. Is that cause I’m recording in high resolution? Do I just need a different lens? Like you can only see my head and chest where as yours you get this super wide angle scrumptious view

I was doing pretty good with my camera until I tried attaching a 2nd one. They both say USB (as I'm using capture cards) if get them both to work, it's not for long. When I try using one, I have to reinstall every time. My first gig is Sunday, help!
I can’t figure out how to do this on the T7I. The HDMI info display setting isn’t available on the T7I and there’s nowhere else I can go to turn off all the lines. I’ve turned the grid lines but the AF method cannot be turned off which is why there is still a line showing.
How can I fix this?

Hey quick question here! Since I don't have any external monitor for my Fuji XT3 plus it has an unflippable screen (FYI I mainly shoot topdown videos), can I use the Elgato Cam Link then connect it to OBS and use my PC monitor as an external monitor for my camera? Thanks!
You don't need the Cam Link for it. You could just plug in the mini HDMI cable to the monitor and it'll output the cam display to the monitor. Cam Link is for Windows that it recognizes it and can capture it.

the 30 minute recording limit is when you are clicking record on your camera. If you use obs to record then the 30 minute record limit ix not being used. As you are using obs to see through your camera and record through obs not your camera. So with that in mind i believe you will be able to record limitless

hi i just bought the camlik, i dont know if you will see this but i need help and got a question for you. i have the same camera and same camlink i orders differend usb cables hdmi to usb c and hdmi to hdmi mini but my software from elgato is saying i need a usb 3.0 and i buy one online and it still didnt work do you please have a link or anything where i can buy the cable you have i struggle hard the last couple days to find the right one and i already spend like 80 euros on 3 cables and cant find the right one please help...
Hey! All of that is correct, the one thing that I am thinking may be the problem is the port. Are you plugging it into a high speed usb port or a regular usb port on your pc?

What’s the difference between using a camlink and plug in directly into the computer? I have a Sony a 6400 and I have my camera plugged in directly into the USB port and I can use it as a WebCam and streaming but I can’t seem to get good quality video. Will using a cam link Give me higher quality video to record?

You won’t get good quality direct to usb as the usb has 4 pjns vs the hdmi, that’s why you need the hardware in between to convert the hdmi output to data the usb can use. So the answer is yes, you will get a better image using the cam link.

This might be a dumb question, but hopefully someone can answer. I am wanting to get into UA-cam content creation and was wondering why not just record on your DSLR's SD card and then transfer the file onto your computer for editing?
I'll answer my friend. I used to do this as well. But the nice thing about connecting Live View to OBS is the range of adjustments you can make before you start. This saves time in editing. In OBS (Open Broadcast Software - its free online) you can record live and export automatically to your PC, also saving time. There is a bit of a learning curve on OBS, but trust me, its worth it.
