Alocasia Bambino Care Tips and Propagation - WITH UPDATES!

- The alocasias bambino looks very similar to the amazonica and polly. This species is the tiniest one out of them and has some very striking foliage, which I am not shy about showing detail views in this video. I share the care tips and propagate them in many ways, showing updates at the end of the video. This is a surprisingly easy alocasia and its beauty is often times overlooked. I highly recommend this species for every growers home conditions.

Love the way you say hello to all the surprise/baby plants.
😀
I learned more about propagating alocasias in the first two-thirds of this video alone than I've learned from the countless other videos I've watched on here. Thanks for being so informative and passionate about your plants.
😀😀 happy to hear that
Ikr?
I love how involved and hands on you are! You are super engaging, informative and honestly my favorite plantuber! I love that your updates are in the same video too!!
Thank youuu 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙈

I am glad I subscribe to you! When spring comes I’m going to check mine. I’ve had it 3 years now and it’s doing well. I paid $1 for it off the clearance rack. It was rotting. I cleaned it and loved it and got rewarded - thank you for sharing this today.
Literally every time I watch one of your videos, I learn something. I thought polly was the common name for the Amizonica; I didn't realize there were 3 different plants. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Yeahhh Amazonica is the largest one
Agree that alocasias like more light than most websites say. The baby bambinos are so cute!
Så intressant att se och mycket bra informationer. Tack igen😊🙏❣
I loooove the updates! It's amazing to see the plant grows up!
Haha this is why I love what I do. Seeing them babies sprout and grow.
Always a treat watching you, thanks so much sharing your knowledge, love and appreciate it👍💚💜💕
Wow great job! They look beautiful!
What a beautiful Alocasia Bambino....
Thank you for sharing and stay safe....
Thanks for the info. I have a Bambino and did not know any of this about them. Very helpful.
Theres a lot to them, so much fun to tinker with 😅
Thank you for all of these videos!!! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Thank you ❤️❤️
Great video!! So useful and well explained 👍Thank you 🙏
This is probably the healthiest alocasia I have ever seen! Learned so much!
😀😀
I’m so so happy to have found your UA-cam. You are an excellent teacher. Thanks you.
Thank you 😌
Hi Sean, thank you for sharing. Just bought two of this plants today and I potted them up together not knowing the nobby nobby burbs in the soil but I chuck them out.
Great video. Alocasia propagation videos are such a feast. And wow... cutting the bulb of full-growth alocasia, only found in Sean's video. I will never bear to do it.
No one has better propagation outcomes than him. His comfort level and confidence with cutting plants are the best.
I just waited patiently for the outcome. I knew it would be great and I was not disappointed.
Thank youu 😀
And you probably the best at explaining and showing us the methods of plant care I have seen on you tube.
Thank youu
the love you have for your plants is so amazing! very inspirational, thank you for your teachings
🥰
I enjoyed the detailed video on the breeding, care, and sprout growth process of Alocacia Bambino. I also raise a Bambino in a balcony garden and a guppy room at home, but It died grow in the balcony garden a while ago. I think it was because winter in Korea was cold. I think it'll be hard to cover it with Vinyl in the winter. I'll have to wait until the sprouts sprout next spring.
This is amazing! I don't think I am brave enough but I am in awe. Thank you so much for all your tips!
Me too
I watch so many plant videos but yours are just the best. I love how detailed you are.
Thank you 🥰
you really give complete contemt on a very specific need on a specific plant, thanks
😀😀
The most incredible video on Alocasias I’ve ever seen. Thank you n
Whoaaa thank you 😀
Your potting mixes have made such a difference to my plants!
😀😀 happy to hear!
😂😂😂 Yes, I am very glad to be subscribed to the channel...Always learning new things from you 💕☺️
Thank youu
The bottom of these leaves are just wow. Probably one of my favorite aroids. So adaptable!
Yeah its a surprisingly easy alocasia
I have the poly and thank you for this video, I now have some confidence to propagate them.
Yeahh the propagation is the same 😀
I truly love ❤️ your video, especially u showed the results after few months.Really enjoyable to watch. Thank you 😊
Thank youu ❤️
This is a really great video. i learned so much that i'm very excited to try. It's so great that you wait to show the results. Not many others do that. Thank you.
😀
This was incredible!
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants collection lovely garden have a blessed day
🙏🏽🙏🏽
I love how you said “hello baby bambino” I would have said the exact same thing. So cute. Awesome video!! I can’t wait to try this.
🙈 hope you have as much success 😀
Hello!
I am your newest subscriber!!!
Great delivery and interaction!! Looking forward to more!
Hello!! Thank you 😀
OMG, I just ordered an amazonica. I didnt realize that it was the king of them. Thanks for the care tips!
Haha yes that is one rewarding plant
super love this video. Love this plant keep up the great work!!!!
Thank youu
OMG you're a saviour! I was just wondering what to do to my Alocasia portodora because it has grown so much over the years that it's growth point is 20cm over the soil. It's really difficult to find information on what to do when the ...tuber? gets too big for your pots. The answer is right here get to cutting! A wholehearted thank you from Finland
Its a lot of fun propagating and cutting them up. Especially since its almost spring where you are 😀
Do often see an alocasia on utube with more than 3 leaves. This one is lovely 😍
I enjoyed you video so much! Extremely engaging and I feel I am standing right next to you. I followed everything you taught and wow! It’s not stressful at all! Thanks! I am a big fan!
Thank youu 🥰
Благодарю сердечно!Очень интересно! Душа радуется : столько красоты!))Подписалась!))
I just purchased 3 plants yesterday. They were on clearance. I moved some of the dirt around and wow there was a corn sitting right there. I love your channel!
Yaye plant the corm hopefully something will sprout
South Africa - I found a Dragon Alocasia - and before I purchased it I investigate the care and propagation - you gave such a good and detailed description. I am going to get one.. Thank you
Good luck with it 😀 south Africa is so beautiful
My Amazonica gave me bulbs that I propagated in a shallow pont of a taperware . They all sprouted and then I potted them in potting mix and they are just fine! Lots of indirect bright light is the trick for bigger leaves! Thank you Sean for this super informative video!!!🙏🙏
🥰
A lot of good planting tips. I'll move mine to the backyard patio where it will get more light. Originally I kept it indoor east facing window and it grows fine but slow. Will see whether the new location will make it strive better.
Fertilize lightly and treat for spidermites often (they really can set a plant back)
Valuable information, just bought one for myself ❤
😀😀
Love your channel!
Thank you Khloe 🥰
I bought Amazonica yesterday and I fell in love with it
😀😀
I love the veining on the bottom of the leaves so much! I just got two baby Bambinos and they are already so dear to me. I think that they're intimidating to purchase because they're so gorgeous
❤️❤️
Love this. Thank you for sharing
Thank you
My 2 alocasia pollys have 13 & 14 leaves. I absolutely love them. Thinking of converting to DIY Pon after dormancy.
Thank you for all your videos! I love them! You do such an amazing job. You can tell you love what you do.
I always have to repot plants when I get them unfortunately here, they are always so full of gnats from the store.
Woooh… maybe consider neem oil soil drench it really deals damage to their population.
Thanks for video. I have one Alocasia Polly, loved it, but it started to loose leaves. Didn't know what's wrong I do. I'll try your recommendations, hope I can save them.
Love your garden
Thanks for doing this video on Alocasia propagation! There's definitely not enough information out there and I'm so worried about making my corms sprout. Nice variegated Musa Ae Ae in the background!
😀😀
Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing.
😀
Honestly you laughter is the best thing about this video. 😅
😃
Thanks for your advice
Wow! This is one of the most successful propagation videos you have done I think 😁. I don't own many alocasias (just 2) because they always die on me, or the leaves turn yellow when a new one appears, and I don't enjoy that behavior haha. But after watching this video you have inspired me to give them a second chance :D
The trick is to have many clumps in one pot so you can enjoy a thicker foliage. But frequent pruning is to be expected 😀
I learned so much from this one video!! I see those little balls all through the soil of my plant and didn’t know what they were. Now I’ll go pluck them off. Lol
Haha yes this is my favorite propagation video so far
Taro is a colocasia, but they're very close to alocasias. I love those baby alocasias you got. Your videos are always so inspiring.
Yeahhh I would love to do colocasia videos soo
You answered so many questions that I had!
🥰🥰
I have learned so much from you,im always excited watching your propagating videos coz it always has an update i just love how you reallyake an efforts to make you videos really satisfying ending, im not yet done watching all your videos but i always love to watch your propagation and updates videos
Thank youuu. Ill be making more of those
@@onlyplants thank you 😊💗 by the way im your subscriber/supporter from Philippines
Yayeee
Oh 👌 Wow thank you so much for sharing this information about this beautiful 🪴 plant
Thank youu
You a legend Sean
🙈🙈
Woooow. This plant is actually like a bird. Has eggs . Beautifull
Very beneficial sharing, Tq Sean🤗
I'm glad I subscribe to your channel.
Watching from the Philippines.
Thank you 🙌🏽
so cool
Ive learned a lot from these. I have 2 bambinos and took some corms without pulling out the plant from the pot.
What Ive noticed is that they can endure morning direct sunlight but the leaves become slightly whiter (or like foggier looking surface). I kept one under bright indirect sunlight and the leaves retain their glossy green surface
Interesting… perhaps they are slightly bleached or producing less chlorophyll as a result of intense light. But yes they thrive in bit of direct light and will grow twice as fast
Haha "this is where the party begins"... yaaasss.. I love it..
I didn’t know bambino could get this big!
Hehe Ive seen bigger ones too. But the Alocasia amazonica can get human sized.
@@onlyplants Yeah in Asia I wish it got that big in NZ. Definitely Asian countries maybe Australia maybe can reach that size :)
Thanks for sharing. Very informative. I'll apply what you demonstrated us. Kudos!--Phils.
😀
Hi, I bought a alocasia polly not knowing anything about it. Unfortunately bringing it home one of the top leaf broke off in the car so I thought maybe if I put the leaf in water it might root but a couple of weeks in it hasn't. Now that I've seen your propagating video, I'm realising that it won't work. Unless you know different, the leaf is not going anywhere. Thanks for showing the corms. I'll have to look under the roots and see if mine have any.
I haven't seen your videos as if late and I'm sorry I haven't because you are such a amazing plant youtuber ... I'm still terrified of my new alocasia Polly that I got about a week ago but so far so good
Thank youuu. Hope you are doing well. Ive been busy as well!
Excellent video! 💚💚💚
😀😀
Woww I love Alocasia☘️🍀🌳🌿
Wow! Thank you!
very interesting, as usual! le bonjour du Sud de la France
Thank you. Bonjour!
I just bought Mine 5days ago..The leaves tips were browning a sign of stress..iv repotted and hopefuly she cheers up again...such a cuttie
Yaye 😀 they like more light than we think. And balance watering so they are ever so slightly lightly moist. Never water logged or dried completely
@@onlyplants yes indeed..im so watchful for her
Thank you 🌱🌿🍃
Thank you and Hi from CANADA.
Hello ❤️
I just bought one of these knowing NOTHING about it so I'm glad I watched this video 😂 I'm going corm digging later
Yaye 😀 give it some time if its a young plant. Usually corms appear in abundance when the plant matures more
Thanks for this video. I am not good at growing any kind of Alocasia. I hope I will be in future.
Give them a try again 😀 follow my tips on light, potting media and watering
I looooove ur Videos!!!!! Thank u so much and keep in making more 🤍 the fact that ur videos are so authentic and you are so urself in the videos, you get so excited sometimes that u jump from
One topic to another 😂 but we love it, we love ur video. And I love that u show all the updates in one video 😊. Also I just got myself the same plant. I had no idea what it was but i had a feeling it would be a great and easy plant so thanks for all the info 😊. Also, my one is going to have it own baby in the same pot so I am very excited 😆. I have a question, do they like their pot to be a bit tight or not they prefer it to be very big ?
Thank you, I interrupt myself sometimes lol, and only notice it during editing. For pot sizes, always go with tight. They actually dont have a lot of roots
OMG The spider mites. 🙄
Slow release pest control in the so a is brilliant idea.
Gonna do that! Thanks!
Be careful when dealing with chemicals, dont touch without glove 😀
I found an Alocasia Polly for a $1.98. It it’s in good condition, but it was pretty water logged in the soil. So I got rid of the wet soil, in the nursery pot, and put new dry soil. I have it on top of my aquarium close to a window next to my Fiddle Leaf fig. I love the look of these plants. It brings a nice esthetic to the home.
Hope it thrives soon 😀 it was a good move to transplant it into something more draining
You are the best went is came to explain about eney plants love it's 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😢🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
Haha 😀❤️
Learned a lot again from your video today! I loved variegated banana too. Do people grow them outside like normal banana trees and harvest fruit there? Can they have direct sun?
I see some people selling seeds and wonder if I should try.
Careful with the seeds… but seedlings that has already shown variegation is alright. They can take some direct light but best to have dappled or filtered effect. Full sun would crisp up its variegated portions
My alcocasia bambino grows AMAZING in my ikea greenhouse!
😀😀
Thank you! Always enjoy your video. I bought a "teenager" alocasias bambino. Love it. Now your video is a great motivation for me to try. Just wondering how to tell when I can propagate the bambino... by size of leaves or really need to dig out and check the roots? Thanks!
You would have to dig them out. But the longer you wait the more corm it will have. Also each old leaf that die will produce a node with growing eye 🥰
@@onlyplants Good tips! Thank you!
Hi thanks for amazing video
could you please recommend which activated charcoal name to buy it from amazon because this is the first time i heard about it and don't Know which one in amazon thanks in advance for your help
Ive no access to the international market so I cannot recommend brands, but horticultural ones meant for orchids would be the safest.
Hi Sean...luv ur channel and contents! When I'm in Jkt can I visit u and get some cuttings? Lol 😆 🤣 😂 Keep sharing your plants and expertise!!!
😅😅
That mother plant....forbidden choi sum hahaha 😂
My local nursery has a few varieties of alocasia....they look very lonely and a bit neglected so I want to rescue them so bad! But this is my first year as a plant parent, so I'll wait until next growing season when I'm more experienced. I live in Texas, so it's dry here, but this summer has been quite humid, so we'll see how it is next year...
Oh yes alocasias are not for beginners. Start with some easier ones first perhaps. The dragon scale is not so bad.
Great insights there. Is it adviable to place the young saplings in direct sunlight for a couple of hours?
Morning should be ok, but not mid day direct light I think.
Hi Sean
I’m michelle from Malaysia.
Love this video, detailed and easy to follow. Going to do the same with my plant. Hope to get as many babies as yours. Thank you for showing the way to propagate it.
I noticed that you didn’t put any soil in the pot before you put the plant in. Is this a better way? Cause I usually see soil in pot, then plant then more soil.
Hope to watch more of your videos. Happy planting!
I use as little potting mix as possible for the plants 😀
@@onlyplants
Thank you
Hi Sean very informative video...👍👍...Can you please do a care video on the different varieties of Asplenium/ Bird nest ferns?..🙏🙏
Ive got 1 video coming up soon on the crocodile fern
@@onlyplants oh cool...It will be helpful for sure..😁👍👍👍
Do you think these would do okay in a full sun glasshouse in the UK, perhaps with a small amount of dappled shade?
I think it also depends on the season and the direction its facing… they love partial shade with a bit of direct
Omg your bag is gros so fast. Mine had one leaf and after a few months just died... It's Phong by the way :)
Thank you for the informative video. I’m watching on a huge screen and can’t help but wonder what those tiny white bugs are? I see at least 5 of them crawling on the black pot and in the soil…… hope they are not pests!
I didnt notice them haha. But if they are big enough to see with naked, and also moves relatively fast they are probably not spidermites or thrips which are pests.
