Please stop apologizing! It’s actually really helpful to see plants that aren’t pristine and see what went wrong and how to fix it. I love your content because of that.
It's a culture thing, some of us have grown up where it is important to show you care about others by apologizing. Hard to explain, but basically that's it, showing respect and humbleness.
I've been watching your videos for two weeks now and I really enjoy watching. It's very informative and you show the results of your propagations. Your videos really helped me a lot how to care for my new plants. I'm Nathan and I'm from Philippines and my Zebrina really like fast draining soil. I water my Zebrina everyday sometimes I even water twice a day depending how hot the day was. I always cut the leaf when it starts to yellow. When propagating alocasia I prefer waiting them to have babies I can't cut my alocasia I don't have the courage. Thanks for another helpful video. 😊😊
Alocasias have rhizomes, not tubers. And the corms (that they put out) you're talking about is called 'bulbils'. So happy taht you upload alocasia contents. More to come ❤️
And now I waiting the prop of Alocasia macrorrhiza variegata. Because mine Already have 2 babies, but I'm still afraid to take them from the mother plant. Great video as always 💕
Thank you so much! Information on the Zebrina is so hard to find and I just recently got one in rough shape for free from a local nursery. Lots of great information here 👍
Love your worms that is how we get worm castings lol. You scared me cutting that plant but I have faith in you and you did it very beautiful still a wish list plant I will never get.
It’s on my wishlist. I heard they aren’t as common where I’m based (the US) but I found one online listed for ~$20 and it looks legit based on the reviews!
I loved this video!!! The bravery of cutting - wow! I'm not that brave lol I can't wait to see how many babies you get. My Alocasia Zebrina is massive. The leaves are bigger than an 8x10 notebook, this video is giving me the courage to split it. Thank you!!!
I'm marathoning your videos. Your alocasia vids are extremely helpful. I've killed so many alocasia (root rot). I think I let them dry out too long and then soak the pots when the roots have kind of shrivelled
Finally found a video on this plant, thanks Sean. I think I overwater (I'm in Barcelona so the humidity in winter is high) it has a new leaf, the old ones started to bend, not so much sunlight these days...should I repot or cut all?
Cut back on watering, and try to increase light even if its using household lightbulbs. Also check for spidermites often when indoors. It should recover so long as its roots arent rotten
Been watching tons of your videos. thank you!! One question is the propagations with sphagnum moss. Once you put the cut-up rhizomes in the moss (water squeezed out), what is your watering regime after that? if you do water, wont the water be soaked up in the moss and making it soggy? Wont that rot the roots? I am kinda confused and hope that you can help me out. Thanks again!
This is a perfect video on what I'm doing today with my new Alocasia Frydek that I got from a going out of business nursery in Waimanalo four days ago. The leaves of the plant immediately died when I took it home so I unpotted it yesterday, and left the corm and root sitting in distilled water. So now I know to cut the leaves off and plant the corm in an orchid mix potting soil, right?
Had my alocasia zebrina for about a year now and it has 9 leaves. Like even now in the winter time it's making new leaves and it never dropped one. I'm a bit scared to propagate it because it's doing so good rn
Spider mite doesn’t like humidity and Indonesia has like 80% plus humidity. Still isn’t safe from mites? And also I’m thinking of using systemic in soil, have you ever had plant that has bad effect from it ?
hi, very beautiful and interesting movies you make! I'm fan.. 😊, also I have problems with my 2 zebrina, I bought last week.., 1 have 2 little baby's, 1 is totally yellow now, and the other is going to, turn yellow... I don't repot them when I bought them.. I spray them, and clean the leaves today.. I see also a new leave is growing.. the leaves have brown Grey ends, and some turning curly at the end down... please can you advice.. live in the Netherlands difficult weather.. 😁
Oh yes they should have roots… its probably root rot from overwatering or dried out completely? One way you can revive it is to try water propagation, or put the plant in sterile media like perlite or moss, and then cover the entire plant in a clear bag/container to prevent moisture loss from the leaves.
My Alocasia is developing black spots on the edge of the leaf, thought it might be stress. Have changed compost to forest floor mix. What would you advise. Thank you.
If its forest floor mix, safe to keep lightly moist. But most people have this grown in a more conventional potting mix and the most common way they were killed is by overwatering 🥲
My Alocasia is so dissatisfied with my indoor humidity that it refuses to have more than 2 leaves, so at this point I'm planning to add more plants to the pot - at some point, a pot full of 2-leaf plants is gonna look like 1 thriving pot 🤣
@onlyplants I purchased one yesterday with droopy leaves. It's looks a little better but it looks like it's struggling. Maybe it wasn't given enough light? Was thinking of using leca but wanted to give it a chance to acclimate to my home. Any suggestions?

After watching this video, you gave me the confidence to propagate my Zebrina and and i have the corms sprouting cute zebra stems.
Nice! This made my day 😀
hi ♥
I had a similar top cut, without roots 17:17 - I put it in the water - I didn't lose a single leaf;) I recommend it!
Thanks for the long lenght vidéos i love them before sleep
Beautiful alocasia 💚 you are a lot braver than I on cutting and making new plants from one. Thank you as always for sharing your knowledge

I got a small Alocasia zebrina baby with two leafs same size as yours four weeks ago so hopefully it grows like your mature plant.
Thank you so much sir for making this video.i learned how to propagate this kind of plant.just bought only 300 php😊 very tall and big already 😊
😀😀
Love this plant, haven’t yet found one. You give me courage to chop my plants up ( kinda). Thank you for your videos. I hope all is going well.

Thank youuu I kept saying the wrong things haha about their rhizomes and corms.
And now I waiting the prop of Alocasia macrorrhiza variegata. Because mine Already have 2 babies, but I'm still afraid to take them from the mother plant.
Great video as always 💕
I cut my Micholitziana stem in three pieces, and now I have three beautiful plants. Thanks for documenting!
I’m so glad you make this video mine is suffering so bad.. I think it’s wet feet, not enough sun, and it just doesn’t like me.
Thank you so much:) for the information I have a 3 ft plant trying to take care of it more :)
🙌🏽
I have this alocasia for 6 years the same plant in Sweden. Never chunkie but somehow lived. I hope I can propagate this beauty
❤️❤️
I'm very proud that it is very common here in the Philippines.
Its Saturday morning.. and I am watching this beautiful plant. Thank you for the video.

I bought a healthy one from Trader Joe’s.

I'm marathoning your videos. Your alocasia vids are extremely helpful. I've killed so many alocasia (root rot). I think I let them dry out too long and then soak the pots when the roots have kind of shrivelled
Yeahhh thats one way to rot them. They do like to be kept lightly moist and also more light than we think. But not full sun 😀
It beautiful i really learn a lot at u with plants 😃😃🌱🌱
Just got one,so this is essential video. Thank you much!!
I love your videos becose show care of plants, propagation, utdatert and have the mother plant grow after cutting :) ceep up the good work

I water it lightly everyday, almost only misting it so the medium remains airy and fluffy.
.Great video ! 🌿😊🌿 Plants are the best, specially the people behind them 🌿🤩🌿 You got a new sub from Denmark .☀️🌿😊🇩🇰
Thank you and welcome to the channel
Alocasia are thriving in water too! I saved my dragon scale that way.
Yeah they can live in semi hydro

Whoaaaa it looks happy. Do you know if its more than 1 main shoot in there since its got 9 leaves
I got three of this last year. I dunno where they are in my jungle. Lol
I love the updates! Thank you!
😀
Enjoy your "experiments" as always!
Hey Sean! One question here: would you pot small bulbs into moss? or is it better with soil, what's your take on that?!
Moss should be good as long as you dont let it get too compacted with water 😀
Thank you!
I learned a lot from you.
😀
That's very informative!
Thank you 🥰
When you get grossed out by worms and bugs it’s so relatable hahaha love plants respect worms but lawwwwd don’t make me touch them
This plant never really caught on, it seems the variegated Frydek is now on top of the most wanted Alocasia list.
Yeah and now it's going to be the Jacklyn
Judges sobat poteq.. Wow..
🙌🏻
Please make a video about a gloriosum regular form and dark form😖 planning to buy one
I have a feeling they are the same. Dark form may have been grown in lower light causing them to develop more chlorophyll
But I could be wrong. Im just observing my 10 pots of gloriosum propagated from the same plant and finding some variation in green
Spider mite doesn’t like humidity and Indonesia has like 80% plus humidity. Still isn’t safe from mites? And also I’m thinking of using systemic in soil, have you ever had plant that has bad effect from it ?
I always use chemical systemic in soil. As long as you dont overdo it should be ok.

Haha so funny how terrified you are about the worms 🤣 💖
Great video

Give it a cut😮 Brave man.❤🎉🎉

Hi. If you grow a plant from a healthy corm, will it get spidermites anyway?
Yes it will. Not sure where they come from… but they have a way of showing up.
Hi! The roots of my alocasia are not growing and I think it's probably not good. Any advice? Thank you ❤❤❤

Thank you❤ that was very interesting and helpful!!! Katarina
Thanks Katarina ❤️
alocasias r so difficult for me 😭😭
I dont think it likes bone dry soil before watering? the forest floor almost never dries out.
If its forest floor mix, safe to keep lightly moist. But most people have this grown in a more conventional potting mix and the most common way they were killed is by overwatering 🥲
First step
You should own an alocasia zebrina 😁
😅
You are hilarious! Afraid of earthworms? I love them! I know my soil is healthy when I find them.
They are so slimy and they wiggle funnt haha
Aren’t earthworms beneficial for the plants ?
Yes they are 😀
But not in a pot… sadly.
So 3 out of 6 survived. The top and the bottom and a pup I think? So the slices between top and bottom weren’t successful, I think?
I cant remember lol. But Ive actually propagated a lot more since the video and sold all but one. The last one is growing well in my ground 😀
My Alocasia is so dissatisfied with my indoor humidity that it refuses to have more than 2 leaves, so at this point I'm planning to add more plants to the pot - at some point, a pot full of 2-leaf plants is gonna look like 1 thriving pot 🤣
