Thank you for showing both the beautiful side of the plants as well as the financial side of plants! I’m sure it’ll help many of us decide what plants to purchase!
I completely agree with Mr Sean on the last point on how common plants can in fact be our source of happiness and peace. Thus, I highly suggest that people just buy plants they prefer best instead of following absurd trends and rules that others want to impose on.

Yes. Trends and the market is important too though, it encourages new products for all to enjoy.

Hello from Paris ! Many thanks for that uncommon subject.
One musn't forget those rare, but not expensive plants : gesneriaceae, hoffmannia, etc., sometimes also easy to grow.
Affordable, just because people don't know them 😊
Make your own searches (it's part of the pleasure of a true collector)

Thank you for visiting the Philippines! Glad to know our market here is very competitive. Though I'm at the bottom of the pyramid. Waiting for the prices to drop and also ensuring that the plants that I'm buying are easy to grow. Hope to marry into expensive rareplants soon 😂

First of all, I want to tell you that it is very useful that you have dubbed this episode into Spanish, because this way you can see each plant that you present to us better and also listen to it, since I do not have a good command of English. The topics that you present to us in this video are really interesting as always, the truth is that it is good to know how finances work in the world of plants, since I grow and trade with some species of plants. Greetings and congratulations because with these topics many people maintain interest in your channel and many will subscribe to your channel.

My gut reaction is to scoff at trend chasing hoarders, but I I try to keep an open mind and this video really helps put the economics of the plant market into perspective. As you said at the end different people play different roles within this market ecosystem and I’m glad overall the plant market is so vibrant. Keep up the great work!

A few weeks ago I went to a plant fair and saw a beautiful & big yellow/light green monstera Thai Con I had never seen before that was half the price of the Albo he had on the table for double the size ($200 AUD over $400AUD). He originally brought it to see if it would sell but also to gauge if anyone would buy a very yellow monstara. I was the only person who asked about it and because my Husband forgot my wedding anniversary which was that day, I bought it for myself out of spite & because it was something different. It was tagged as Monstera Villa (though I assume this is a temporary name or might be what they called it as I cannot find it online anywhere) but I was told it was one that came with his regular Thai order as a random variant of the plant that was a aurea hybrid (unsure if true). Whatever the case it's absolutely gorgeous & has two new buds growing since I got it and just stands out amongst my regular Thais & Monsteras as something really incredible. I don't plan on profiting off it, though I am doing a prop swap with a friend who has a mint monstera I want to attempt growing - I'm too afraid to get a regular varigated aurea or mint that will either revert or go all yellow/mint and die that way as my lighting all year around isn't stable (I live in Australia btw, so importing plants is a very strictly controlled thing here, and seeing this plant was a shock because frankly most variations we see of monsteras will never wind up here) but I'm just excited it's loving my house along with my other monsteras. I hope to see more of them for people to buy as it's just a beautiful plant being lime green/yellow with the cream speckles/sectorals of the Thai & makes a great statement plant. If there's is ever a mint Thai that comes out & is affordable or I luck out like I did here I'll be all over it as monsteras just absolutely love my house more than any other plant😊

As a former banker and orchid grower, I highly recommend buying low selling high. Joining a garden club is the cheapest and best way to get plants. It makes no sense to pay these prices because prices will come down and they propagate much faster than large orchid specimens.

I have a large variety also. A few rare, several that were rare during covid and other more common plants. As long as I find them beautiful, that’s all that matters. I have no desire to sell unless I had a plant shop, but my community has regular plant swaps. Those are fun and I come home with plants I wasn’t particularly looking for, but really enjoy.

Some of us can also take an active role if theres business opportunity, to import these plants into our countries and cultivate them for the market so they can spread their beauty (as we also make money)

Thanks for all your informative videos. I started keeping plants a year ago and your videos helped. I buy what I like and what I can afford and with confidence to keep them alive. My current fav are Anthuriums (long shapes ones and Crystallinum) and Philodendron (especially SS). I hope Singapore will be like the US pyramid so that I can continue to get nice plants at common plants rate. I have propagated a few of my common Florida Beauties and have given the small plants to friends and colleagues. I have never sold a plant.

I absolutely love Indonesian anthuriums, but finding a seller was very difficult. One of the sellers I have stuck with had some of the same grievances you did, that many operate in a way that did not guarantee long term customers. One of the things I disliked was how pushy they are with their sales, if I gave a budget it was ignored. But again, those good sellers that respect my budget constraints and request have resulted in me receiving some wonderful anthurium for my collection. And they offer me stuff I did not know existed 🎉

The only time I got a "rare" plant was on a 50% off sale when the vine turned into an elongated, scraggly mess and the shop was looking to get rid of it ASAP. Propagated it from the nodes, sold the vines that grew out of the propagation on FB marketplace on the cheap, actually not only breaking even but also getting a little extra back. I love propagating plants, so it worked out for me, but I'd never buy a truly rare plant just to have one - too much risk of thrips and spider mites decimating the prized possession

As a person with really specific taste mostly for African succulents, little of this applies or seems appealing. Most people I meet have never seen the things in my collection and are already astounded. Where do you meet people who would know enough about the market to be impressed by a collection featuring the plants worth over a thousand dollars? I look at these variegated aroids and I don't get it.

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  3 дні тому +1

True, there are many like you actually. But huge majority of the players now actually delve deep into the aroids. Its important to aknowledge this market trend and phenomenon… and… the good news is, trends dont last forever. A lot of skills developed today will apply to other genus in the future. I predict there will be spillovers to other genus/trend, whatever that may be - down the road.

Me it’s about “ special features “ there is good looking plants I’ll never want to own ,some can be very expensive or very beautiful but my heart isn’t “ loving it “
It’s like the monstera Peru , or the cebu blue , both are very common now , but the feeling I have when I see those plants doesn’t change , because the leaves are special and feel special. Philodendron tortum type to , look like a palm but isn’t …giants anthurium…. I own lots of pink princess before Covid, but I don’t “ love them “ how I love my dorstenia elata I’ve purchased at the same time, why ? The flowers are just to special in contrast with the “ normal leaves “…
The musaica network to ! Monstera delicioca types broked my heart so it’s a no no for me .

There hasnt been monkey business in the plant market in years (that I know of). Although there was decades ago before the advent of social media and international trade. I feel the plants today respond to supply and demand realistically.

    Yo soy espectadora 😢.
    Solo teno plantas comunes 😢.
Nunca alcanzaré a tener siquiera 1 monstera thai constelación 😢.
Pero me gusta ver y por ver no cobran 😂
    A y a parte ver de lejos.
Prefiero comprar 3 plantas de 400 pesos mexicanos a comprar una hoja o na vitro 😢

Thats ok too. Its relaxing to grow common plants. Sometimes just observe and watch others grow rarer and more difficult plants ❤️ I do the same.

Hello, youtube has rolled out auto-dubbing. You have to go to video setting to turn it into original audio.
You should also do the setting for the youtube account because other channels will also be auto-dubbed into Hindi soon.
